Between May and September, the largest migration of whale sharks in the world can be found off the coast of Isla Mujeres! Which means that snorkeling with whale sharks is one of the most popular tours on Isla Mujeres during the summer months, and for good reason!
This day trip started off at Sea Hawk Divers where they briefed us, provided a light breakfast and motion sickness tablets before bringing us to the dock where we linked up with their sister company, Mexico Divers. Driving out to find them took about an hour, and at 22 miles out to sea our Captain Luis spotted the first whale shark! We were the first ones to find them - how cool is that?! It wasn’t long before all the other boats pulled up, but what is fantastic about Mexico is that they protect the whale sharks. So unlike some other countries where there are literally hundreds of people flailing around in the water at the same time, in Isla Mujeres only 2 snorkelers per boat are allowed in the water at once. Pretty groovy huh?
Captain Luis said that he believed there were over 100 whale sharks! And there weren’t just whale sharks, there were dolphins and mantas and turtles too!
After we were done snorkeling, Mexico Divers provided us with sandwiches and drinks - but the tour didn’t end there. They brought us to a local reef where we drift snorkeled and after enjoyed fresh ceviche on the boat! All for $125 - it was quite the day and one of the best tours we have ever done!

Yes, you have to have a guide. They make it a lot more enjoyable as well, telling you where to look and even taking the video for us so we could be present with the animals! haha yes, the food was amazing after exerting all that energy! And the cold drinks! Thanks for watching.

@@TheCountryCollectors I was living with a Mexican friend in his House in Playa del Carmen. I saw Cozumel, Isla mujeres, Tulum, Tabasco, Chetumal... Tabasco is not a safe city, but generally Mexico is beautiful.

I was there on the same month as you. Swimming with the whale sharks has been on my bucket list for so long. I absolutely loved it so much I ended up going a second time on the same week. Unfortunately I was not as lucky as you. So glad you were able to see not only turtles but dolphins and manta rays ?????? Incredible. The best suggestion is definitely if you can, take a motion sickness patch. I had both the patch and took a non-drowsy gravol (anti - nausea pill). Even if you are not prone to motion sickness %100 take it. you will not regret it. Nothing like feeling sick to ruin the best experience of a lifetime. On my second trip, most of my boat got sick.
Hi Julie! Oh man - an experience of a lifetime! It was incredible. The captain said we were so lucky. When we pulled up I literally couldn't believe my eyes - they were everywhere! And yes to the motion sickness tablet. It's a MUST!

@@TheCountryCollectors I meant before swimming with the whale Sharks. You had said a few things in the video. I meant getting there early or what else to bring. That’s all :) sometimes they give you tips wasn’t sure if they did.
Bring a hat, sunscreen (apply before, it’s not allowed on the boat), stay hydrated, and make sure to get some rest the night before. Being hungover on a boat trip can be tough! You can arrive at the time they say. They offer a light breakfast and water/Gatorade. They had snacks, lunch and ceviche as well. Also take the seasickness tablets they offer! They provide masks find and snorkels. If you have a camera or GoPro make sure it is charged and ready to go. And make sure not to forget you Sence of adventure!

I loved this so much! So jealous of you guys! I would love to do this but I wouldn’t risk it with my motion sickness issues.
I hear you Jeremy! There was a lady on the boat that had the same issues and she did not get to snorkel at all. It was a tough day for her and the trip out 22 miles can be rough for sure. I'm sure if you tried seasickness tablets but it’s a long time to be at sea if you have issues with motion. We are so glad you joined us on our adventure though!
We are planning to be down there next month, can’t wait to do this!

I totally would’ve been throwing up in that water.. last time I went snorkeling I had to come up and watch the horizon because of barf city. You guys did great.. loved the quip it’s Whaleitsrealky cold.. lol
Oh Linda, I know that feeling and it is horrible! There was a lady on our boat who got really sick, it was pretty bad - being 22 miles at sea in rough water is no joke. Fortunately she got some fluids when we got back to land and recovered, but if you're prone to motion sickness I would not do this tour.
