Going in July for my best friends birthday, this is what they want to do the most. Hopefully it lives up to the hype!

I’m going to Cancun next year summer and I’m coming from the uk and it’s a full flight so it’s like 10 years and I want to become a marine biologist so I’m really excited to swim with the friendly giants

Lol I went there last summered and we encounter over 10 whale sharks, and like 2 manta rays. We were incredibly lucky

Will the kitchen at the hotel prepare and serve them when you bring one back with you?

Hi there, our whale shark tours from Cancun are now $165 per person. So that would be $330 for two adults. Check out this link for more info: ecotravelmexico.com/tour/swim-with-whale-shark-tour-cancun/
      Best wishes,

Is this activity included with the Hotel Xcaret package? Or separate fee? Also, will they pick us up from the Hotel?

The harrasment I saw of these whale sharks were shocking. The whole experience was a sad travesty. People were jumping in front of them and some were not good swimmers at all which meant the whale shark had to change direction. I saw numerous people touch the whale shark. I will never do this again and do not recommend.

100% agree, I did it 3 days ago with an “eco friendly” company. The harassment of the animals turned my stomach. The sheer amount of boats on the water following one whale shark, harassing it, people jumping in on top of it, the “guides” getting us to jump in on top of them to “get a good view” and not batting an eyelid when we said we nearly hit them. But made a huge scene when one guy touched one gently with a finger swimming alongside it (which of course is warranted - but I think they are only concerned about this when it could mean them losing their licences which they told us could happen if a marine park ranger saw one of their group doing that). But the hypocrisy of this when it comes to their license, but then tell us to jump in on top of the shark as well as chasing the shark with about 10-15 boats makes a mockery of the whole thing. I am no bilogist but it was clear the fish were distressed. They kept deep diving to get away from the snorkelers. They say they respect the sharks and the ocean but I think this is disingenuous and really only concerns their income ($200 per person minimum). They also made a big deal about not putting suncream on so as not to pollute the water ( a given, unless you have zinc oxide or reef safe suncream). The same guide who said this then poured Coke cans in to the sea when we were out near the reef. Make it make sense? If you are in any way concerned about marine life and respecting the ocean don’t do these tours. And don’t be fooled in to thinking the cleverly named Eco tours are any better. I’ll regret doing this forever.
