Unpopular opinion: Trucks shouldn't be used for covering 1000km+ distance in 2024. Govt must build a more dense railway cargo network

I have a relative who was a truck driver and even though truck looks ugly and ancient, truck drivers take care of it as their baby. In India, roads are not good so max it can be driven is 400KM with 2 drivers doing shifts. My relative has bought Mercedes-Benz truck couple of years ago and it is absolute luxury compared to older Indian models.

Recently there is a Transporting Company which got a big found in India to start modern transportation hub. Volvo has given there top end trucks from their side which cost 1.56 cr. That is very costly but that truck is accepted and currently running on some routes in India 😌.. Its a big achievement

Having managed logistics for a leading manufacturing company, cost indeed is major reason. Old trucks cost around 10 lakhs, small transporters break even in 4-5 years. new truck would cost upwards of 45-50 lakhs, which only big transporters with fleets operating in multiple states can afford. regardless of this, there needs to be a major upgrade in amenities, in such hot weather of ours, lack of facilities at destinations, rto passings and longer wait times, it is quite difficult for truck drivers. Compared to US(we should aspire) we are way behind, you can watch wall street journal documentary of trucking industry to get an idea.

India should adopt trailer system. logistics cost toh kum nahi hoga par transit time kum hoga.

Corrupt RTOs take lot of bribes from truckers

  • @sheshan88

Toll charges are high for trucks

In pvt sector unorganised market the competition is so much that any thing that gives people oppertunity to earn livelyhood is lapped by people in hoards... So as soon as the industry earns more than the survival costs there will be ao much oversupply that people cant think on moving up the lifestyle chain...

Sidhi si baat hai dost. Majorly trucks body building ke hisab se bante hai or wo log hi design lagbhag wahi purana wala rakhte hai.
