Did they hated his character or his acting? If they hated the character, he did everything right. I couldn’t stand Shane and 5 seasons later realized that he was the person from the beginning that Rick evolved to.
Shane did everything right? He kept hitting on Rick's wife even after his return, assaulted her, then tried to kill Rick, became a hot head, and again tried to kill Rick (a second time), killed Otis... I agree that Shane was right about a lot of things, but he didn't do "everything" right.

It may have been a short stint in the show in the scale of things but it had such a huge impact that you could still feel the presence of Shane (or the absence of him and how needed he was) all the way to the end. Absolutely phenomenal performance and deserves all the flowers.
I have been a big fan of Norman since the beginning of TWD. You could always tell he was a guy that fell into acting, someone who doesn't take his career too seriously. Him and Jon's friendship is also so pure. I could listen to them talk forever.
I just started replaying TellTales TWD again the other day. The comics, The first few seasons of the show, Telltales TWD. They all hold such a special place in my heart and so much nostalgia.
Loved every bit of how real this episode is. Hope you and Norman keep staying healthy and happy all things considered in life. Thanks for the stories. Big fan of you both.
SUCH a good interview, I love how Jon lets the guest talk!!! Nothing kills me more than being interrupted when asked a question. Love Norman and Daryl, the new show is excellent even if it is in France, one of my all time favs in the show ❤

Sure everyone comes after that cant be a part of the founding fathers cirle, thats a bond you cant recreate. i love to watch both of you, no matter the prodject.
This is the realest conversation I’ve heard between two celebrities, or even two people. You rarely get this perspective about a film project and experiences within the community of people working on it
Sad story about the dog. Me too I cried when my dog died. I never showed it to my parents or siblings. I went in my little corner so nobody could see me and I bawled. Crazy how the bond you make with an animal can affect you emotionally. It never hits in the moment until it does. Crazy how Daryl lasted this long. The OG crew carried the show. You could of have your own spin off too. Shane was such a character. People hated the decisions he made but he was all about keeping it real and stay grounded especially in the reality there were in.
Dude I really loved when you had Shia on, when people fall you pick them up. I'm not ignoring or excusing what he did, but I will recognize his change and his shame of who he was. Much like his victim did for him. Btw You and Norman need a project together.
Hearing you talking about losing your dog touched my heart ♥️ I work in vet med and it was a beautiful way to remember your pup. Also a good reminder to be grateful for the moments we get with the ones we love
For only 18 episodes of The Walking Dead his impact is HUGE!! I go back and watch those early episodes to see HIM. I gotta say, I also have 2 of his action figures from the show and they're 2 of my favorites.
So much respect for these two guys. For such successful actors, they just seem so down to earth and real. Setting a great example, especially the part Jon says about the responsibility of friendship. Wow, really moves me to know there are people that see it that way, what a beautiful thing. Good for him taking the heat about Shia, people don't change unless we engage with them and there are a limited number of people that can reach people in that kind of head space. Take responsibility, doesn't mean it will always work but you got to try. You'll learn something in the process, doesn't mean you condone whatever.
I loved the walking dead show in its entirety. After Andrew left, it lost a bit of its touch for me. After Steven left, a lot of people lost touch with the show. (Not me because I loved Jeffery as negan) But I can say with full confidence, and everyone would agree, seasons 1-5/6 were some of the best television in history. There was something so special about every single character, and the actors did some of the best work I’ve seen to bring them to life. And Jon made such an impact in the beginning of the show, honestly I can say he carried the beginning of the show, alongside Andrew. Those two worked so well together, I wish Shane’s character was brought further along, even though we all obviously hated him haha. I would love to see more old co workers on the show Jon! Especially Andrew
Agree with this. Would love to see an alternate universe where certain characters like Shane didn’t die, to see where the characters would have ended up.
With how much Shane was favored by fans.. Jon Berthal should do a spinoff series where him & Randall left the farm together & survived at the bandit camp.. SHANE & RANDALL spin-off series! It would GO INSANE!
So I only started watching TWD a few weeks ago as I’m recovering from major surgery. It wasn’t something that interested me before but I thought ‘let’s give it a go’ and I’m totally hooked! I’m already on season 9 and my favourite character is definitely Daryl. He’s just such an interesting and likeable character. The show is utterly brilliant.
Wish we could get these guys plus Andy aka Rick on a podcast together! I know he's super busy & barely ever does appearences or interviews anymore, but it would be soo dope. DO IT FOR THE FANS Y'ALL!!! 👀
Jon's alternate ending that he pitched for Shane was wayyyy better and I think that still came out through his performance in the version we got which is credit to his acting. I remember talking about it with him back in 2014, along with Fury before that film came out. Great conversation I remember well to this day. Ran into him on the escalator first before that conversation at the Louisville convention center because he was running late to the con because they were partying for Scott Wilson's birthday that night prior haha. Down to Earth, humble, and definitely willing to take that extra time to have a real conversation with you even as a total stranger. Definitely a real one.
You may have been on the show for a short period but your character was nothing short of impactful. Shane displayed a true dichotomy through passion and ethics that stunned the show's audience and laid the foundation to further explore the depths of human nature during this gruesome pandemic.
Yeeees. I love Jon Bernthal's take on Norman Reedus' acting. That's why Daryl is my favorite. He's so authentic to who he is, and as tough as he is on the outside, he's so genuine and so tender. It's such a beautiful combination.
I appreciate these conversations and thank you for just talking amongst friends. People get so caught up in the game and limelight when in actuality, just like you said, we all have more in common than what is portrayed on propaganda media. We're all human beings, and we have relationships with each other. You have worked with someone for years, you develop a relationship with that person, and you bond. People need to relax on the whole fanatatism of celebrities. Ya'll are just normal people who chose a different career path. We need to do more communicating. Drop the egos and just talk. You might find we have more in common with the folks we see on the screen than not. Much love to ya'll.
I don't watch the show anymore but the first season was something special and very meaningfull for all nerds and zombie fans I still can't believe how popular it went
Man I was working out today and really feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. Listening to this made me really feel refreshed. Amazing being a fly on the wall in this conversation. Thank you
I was one who was bummed that they split rick and shane apart, I really think it would have been even better to have them both being the protectors of the group and best friends for the whole show. Bernthal was missed immediately. The show felt different as soon as he left.

Those early seasons of The Walking Dead really are special, you can feel that close connection with the whole cast.
My son and I met both this year at the Atlanta Comicon. It was an amazing experience, so unbelievable. Love them.
Loved every bit of how real this episode is. Hope you and Norman keep staying healthy and happy all things considered in life. Thanks for the stories. Big fan of you both.
I'm a big fan of yours, Fridu!!! Love your Rust videos!
whaaaat Hi Fridu!
SUCH a good interview, I love how Jon lets the guest talk!!! Nothing kills me more than being interrupted when asked a question. Love Norman and Daryl, the new show is excellent even if it is in France, one of my all time favs in the show ❤
1:58 the “mhm” from Norman reminds me of all the times he done that in TWD
Nice to hear actors give crew shout outs. You can tell they were on the right sets early on in their career.
you guys did it with heart and soul when TWD wasnt popular yet, no one knew you guys that good, but still you guys delivered that S1 & S2 so bruttaly convincing and build the thing up that your fans love now. Sure everyone comes after that cant be a part of the founding fathers cirle, thats a bond you cant recreate. i love to watch both of you, no matter the prodject.
As someone from DV, I really am glad you interviewed Shia. We have to nip this in the bud by addressing, not pretending it doesn’t exist.
The moment "I beat your ass at ping pong" came up, I knew their friendship was genuine. 😂
This is the realest conversation I’ve heard between two celebrities, or even two people. You rarely get this perspective about a film project and experiences within the community of people working on it
I would love to see Andrew, Norman and Jon together, having a deep funny interesting conversation!
18 episodes? Bro, youre immortal with that "WHO IS THAT, HUH? WHO IS THAT, HUH?!"
cheers from Poland
18 plus season he does scene in Woodbury, over 10hrs into show
Thank you both for your dedication to a small show that grew to be a dynasty. You both help make TWD what it is today.
Btw You and Norman need a project together.
i was a single father when the walking dead came on tv it made me and my daughter bond every sunday was are time you both are Amazing Actors
Jon, you really NEED to get Andrew and Steven on!
Hearing you talking about losing your dog touched my heart ♥️ I work in vet med and it was a beautiful way to remember your pup.
Also a good reminder to be grateful for the moments we get with the ones we love
man i can just listen to these two talk about just about anything forever. the real, real ones.
For only 18 episodes of The Walking Dead his impact is HUGE!! I go back and watch those early episodes to see HIM. I gotta say, I also have 2 of his action figures from the show and they're 2 of my favorites.
Crazy to me how Bernthal was only in the first 2 seasons. 19 episodes out of 177 and Shane is arguably still the most talked about character.
Thats why everyone loves seasons 1-4 of TWD the most, all the actors had this bond of real friendship and it showed through the screen.
I knew from the haircut on Jon this was a rebroadcast. Even Jon's hair has stories.
The camaraderie Norman and Jon talk about reminds me of the bond between the Band of Brothers Easy Company Taccoa men.
The grittiness of the original seasons really sets it apart from later ones. It definitely shows.
some podcasts you can tell the ppl aren’t as close we think, but this one is like pure friendship it seems
With how much Shane was favored by fans..
Jon Berthal should do a spinoff series where him & Randall left the farm together & survived at the bandit camp.. SHANE & RANDALL spin-off series! It would GO INSANE!
It's crazy how much a shared experience can make people become close so damn quickly, awesome listen.
We've had Deborah and now Norman, REAL ONES is on a ROLL
So I only started watching TWD a few weeks ago as I’m recovering from major surgery. It wasn’t something that interested me before but I thought ‘let’s give it a go’ and I’m totally hooked! I’m already on season 9 and my favourite character is definitely Daryl. He’s just such an interesting and likeable character. The show is utterly brilliant.
facts and wish you the best of healing on your recovery 🙏🏽
@@SOLIDJR2000 Thank you so much, that’s really kind 😊
My two favourite characters in the entire show! Hell yeah!!! Andrew should’ve been here too
It was like a startup company - small, everyone doing it for the first time together and doing their best to make it work.
I'm sad that Jon didn't have more time on TWD because he absolutely smashed it on the Punisher series!
He deserved to be into the season when The Governor showed up!
You may have been on the show for a short period but your character was nothing short of impactful. Shane displayed a true dichotomy through passion and ethics that stunned the show's audience and laid the foundation to further explore the depths of human nature during this gruesome pandemic.
Thank you 🙏🏼 can’t even speak on this right now bc I’m crying
Norm seems very cool. I could listen to him for hours. Great interview, Jon.
First two seasons are masterpiece for me. ❤
Yeeees. I love Jon Bernthal's take on Norman Reedus' acting. That's why Daryl is my favorite. He's so authentic to who he is, and as tough as he is on the outside, he's so genuine and so tender. It's such a beautiful combination.
Much love jon, Favorite actor, human being.. everything brother big support!
Yeah Jon's been great in so many movies and shows but I still always say "Shane from Walking Dead."
I don't watch the show anymore but the first season was something special and very meaningfull for all nerds and zombie fans
I still can't believe how popular it went
These guys are just happier versions of their characters
Man I was working out today and really feeling the weight of the world on my shoulders. Listening to this made me really feel refreshed. Amazing being a fly on the wall in this conversation. Thank you
Always something cool about seeing these two
Omg, so cool to hear this, at 10:53 his mannerisms waving off his face like that to not make eye contact, that was super noticeable
I was one who was bummed that they split rick and shane apart, I really think it would have been even better to have them both being the protectors of the group and best friends for the whole show. Bernthal was missed immediately. The show felt different as soon as he left.
Loved the first few seasons when Frank Darabont was writing but it became harder to continue after they fired him. Glad Norman was a guest here. Ty Jon
This is a great episode! Jon, you portrayed Shane so convincingly in The Walking Dead that I can hardly see you as anything but a scumbag, haha! You were incredible in that role!!
Truly not many other podcast can leave me satisfied watching an entire episode the way yours's does Jon. Appreciate what you do
Norman!!!! Get Jon on Ride! I wanna see you two together on bikes.
First few seasons of twd were incredible and must see TV. Shane was so intense and that's why I love Jon's portrayal of Punisher.
It would be cool to see Steven Yeun on the pod one day
There is so much energy and enthusiasm here. It's so easy to see why the first two seasons worked so incredibly well.
