    As a former C172 owner I can say the 182 has the ideal combination of power, speed, useful load, range and because it is a high wing airplane ideal in emergency landing scenarios.

    My dad was a pilot for over 50 yrs and out of all the Airplanes he owned.. He said his 1976 Cessna 182p skylane was the Best.

    Thank you for your video. I passed my written but do not have much time in left seat which was long time ago--my written has expired. I enjoy and do very well "flying" on Microsoft flight sim but the sim weather does not simulate what you covered in this video which is REAL LIFE flying, ie, thermals, downdrafts, etc, even with an extra weather 'patch' dovetailed into the program. It's fun, but I don't use it as a 'game'. I fly seriously when I sim-fly. That's why I enjoy your videos because you illustrate the real aspects of flying in REAL weather. Looking forward to more.

    Great video. I also have ditched the cap because the ANR headsets work so much better if they are properly sealed at the ear cups. I recently acquired a 182T and also appreciate your tip re: fuel return to the left tank. Keep the blue side up 🙂

    You need a gimbal for your camera. I haven’t seen that much jello in video in years! Thanks for bringing up past memories I had a good laugh because I remember those days and totally forgot all about jello in video. 😅

    Don't know why, but I prefer the 172 over the 182. Learned to fly in the 70s in Laramie. WY, at 7220'. Have flown the mountains in both the 152 and 172. Agree with you, the late in the day in the summer can be brutally bumpy. Thanks for the video!

    Nice Skylane. My favorite C-182 was the turbo RG version. Close to a C-210 two less seats. I never found it so bumpy but I would fly at 15,000. Nice and cool and smooth. I didn't know these had a supercharger? Weird!

      The supercharge is an STC, forced automotive out of Denver. Super cool

      @@kristensorensen2219 A supercharger is not a standard option, it's essentially and aftermarket product approved by the FAA, the make must receive a make and model STC from the FAA to put it on. I love it, a little less power at high altitudes, however you don't get the heat issues that come from a Turbo.

      @@kristensorensen2219 STC stands for Supplemental Type Certificate. It is the end result of the extensive FAA process of getting an aftermarket approved for a non-experimental aircraft. The FAT system is belt driven. "Full" normalized power should be available up to 7000-8000'. While this is lower than any of the turbo systems available it is lighter, cooler, makes 99% of north American airports functionally sea level, and provides 75%ish cruise power at 12000-14000'. Depending on the mission it provides different benefits and drawbacks when compared to other more traditional options on the market.

    As someone who has hundreds of hours in Mooneys and Bonanzas, and once owned a Cirrus SR22, I think the notion that a Skylane is the “best ever” sounds pretty funny to me. HOWEVER.... I sold my Bonanza and have just joined a flying club where the best airplane they have is a 182. I am about to start my orientation to this plane, and the only Cessna I ever flew-for maybe 100 hrs- was a Cardinal.

    What years/models are the best for the 182? I am a 250 hour pilot looking for a long term plane to own. I heard the 1978 and older models have issues with fuel bladders. I also hear the hydraulic system on the RG versions has issues as well. Anyways, thanks for your tips!

      We had a 1979 182 fixed gear with wet wings so no bladder issues. Nice plane. Airframe and engine were low maintenance for us. We did spend some funds each year maintaining the avionics and instrumentation up for IFR use.

    How tall is the fella flying? I'm 6'7 and trained in a Cherokee. Let me tell you, it wasn't comfy lol pilot looks like a tall fella and looks like he has ample head and leg room.

    If you're carrying passengers a lot I can see the advantage of a 182 over a 172. If you're flying solo most of the time you're just burning extra gas for nothing imo.
    I'm slower in my 172 but my operating expense and cost to own is lower.

      Awesome. I just took my first discovery flight and it was awesome! I flew a diamond, which was such a fun plane, and so exciting to fly. Im hoping to meet utah pilots, make new friends, seek out all of your knowledge and have fun. Im 37 and not sure how im going to accomplish this goal, so if you have any tips with how to do that part too, id appreciate it. Is there a way I can reach you other than here?

      Yes, you need a complex/High Performance, it's a simple checkride with your CFI.

      Yes, at climb out, Cruise is 15 to 13 depending on altitude and power setting! That comes with having high horsepower and a plane that will perform in mountains and at higher loads and altitudes!

      I fly a '62 C182E. 12gph at full power and 10gph at cruise. I've had it leaned as low as 9gph in cruise. 62 gallons usable & 230hp performs great in the mountains.

      @@robertd4468 The SC has some great benefits, it's lighter than a turbo, produces very little heat, it has its own oil reservoir, however it is belt driven so you won't get the manifold pressure you get from a TC. I love it, I live in Utah and for the mountain flying I do, I've get sea level MFP all the way to 11K, then it starts to drop off from there.

      @@HookedOnUtah I just went to the website. Very interesting application. Not cheap though at $22,000 + an estimated 40 hour install. I suppose living in the west, forced induction is a must do the high density altitude situations and mountainous terrain. I used to live out in AZ and we had our mountains there too.
      Had to circumnavigate the Flagstaff area because of mountains in NA aircraft. I think the advantage of not having to worry about TIT or over boosting seems attractive. Not coking the turbo bearings due to improper cool down also seems advantageous.

    If I am just hauling my own fat ass around, in density altitude, I prefer the 180 hp Cardinal. Burning all that extra fuel, is about as wasteful, as that solo guy, doing the 2 hour commute through Seattle, in that huge 4x4! I bought the ww2 ballcap from Sporty's, that does not have that button. I hate that button! We still did not get to why the 182 is the best. Perhaps change the title of the film.
