I used to own 77A I was the owner that pulled out the headliner, cleaned out the corrosion that was under it, painted the metal and installed the shoulder harnesses. I also installed the 8.00 tires and put in the new brakes. The biggest job I did was getting rid of the old carb (a Stromberg) and replacing it with a brand new Marvel-Scheibler. I installed the new Alaska Bushwheels tailwheel and the new springs. I enjoyed owning it, but with a plane that old, it is really being a caretaker
I got my PPL in a Cessna 140A in 1962. That 140A taught me a lot. It made the transition to more than 50 different types of airplanes and gliders easy after my basic training in the 140A. I owned my own Cessna 185 on both floats and wheels for 14 years. I now fly a Cessna L-19 tow plane for my local soaring club. When people tell me they are going to get their pilots license, I suggest they try to find a tail dragger and get at least their first 20 hours in it. The habits you learn in those first 20 hours will serve you well the rest of your flying career. BTW...when I learned to fly they did not call them "tail draggers"...they were "conventional gear" aircraft. To further give away my age...my first 20 hours were in an Aeronca Champ and my first lesson was how to hand prop it! The instructor did not trust me at the controls for starting the engine on the first lesson. Have fun with your "new" bird.
When my roommate Larry and I bought a 1947 Cessna 140 N2123N (with a 170B metal wing!) in 1968, our beautiful little plane was 21 years old, Larry was 20 and I was 24. Many months later, Larry took his private check ride in it, and I took my commercial. There was just enough room behind the seat for an ice chest and two sleeping bags. Oh, the stories! I hope you enjoy your 140 as much as we enjoyed ours.
That surely won't be the case after a full Garmin avionics and panel upgrade, a new interior and a new paint job! I believe she paid $33K for it and the upgrades would probably cost the average Jane Pilot $75-$100K would be my guess. :)
Congratulations Stevie! That aircraft has a LOT of ramp appeal honestly. There is something about being the custodian of a vintage aircraft which appeals to a lot of pilots, myself included. Look after that little old lady and she will look after you!
Alright Stevie! You will love the C-140. I grew up flying my fathers C-120 back in the 70s. The 120/140 is a honest flying A/C with good flight characteristics and low fuel burn. I'm sure the guys you have lined up doing the work will check, but make sure to have a close inspection done on the gear box and door post columns. Cracks have been known to form (it is a 70+ year old airplane after all) and those cracks can lead to gear failure on landing, which is not good! The 120/140 Association is a tremendous resource for keeping these old birds flying and great people to boot. Good luck, great choice. Look forward to seeing you and 77 Alpha at AirVenture!
First, congrats on the 140A. It’s not ugly; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now you will really learn how to fly. As a former 120, 140, 170B, and S-35 owner (all great birds), I might add the the only thing wrong with a Bonanza is that the tailwheel is on the wrong end!
Congratulations! I soloed in a 140, N9683) in 1956. At that time the V-tailed Bonanza was considered the Cadillac of light aircraft. I was a skinny senior in high school at the time and I'll never forget the surprise at how quickly she lifted off after my instructor got out and said, "Take her around the pattern". I myself am of 1938 vintage and while I was never considered a luxury model no one ever called me "Lil' Ugly". I felt ultra cool when flying that plane. I noticed in your in-flight shot of the panel the airspeed indicator is hovering just above 80 mph. A little disconcerting to see those trucks on I-5 passing you up. I think you're in for a lot of fun with your new airplane.
It's nice to be able to find a nice example relatively corrosion and damage free from Bellingham, WA, of an all-metal tailwheel airplane that is older than you are for a reasonable price. 👨✈👩✈
Very cool vintage machine. My old college roommate had an old Cessna, he liked the open views of the landscape you get looking down from above without the wings obstructing. Looking forward to more new videos 77Alpha. 😊
My grandfather had a ‘50 version of the A. Of course, with me as a little kid in the 1960s the plane didn’t seem that old. It was just small, slow, and loud, compared to his Bonanza and twin Beech at the time. I never understood why he had it. But he was gone most every summer Sunday afternoon in it from about 1966 until he sold it in about 1969. Congratulations on your purchase.
WOW Stevie... That's quite an undertaking! A lil back story... I purchased a Restored Prize Winning 1947 Piper J3 Cub back in June 1986 in Madison Wisconsin, N3461K and gifted to my 30K ATP Dad for his last Fathers Day in 1986. Not my era of aviation, but I managed to get it back to BUF through the CHI TCA sans transponder with a Telex Portable Radio, push to talk switch and my JEP Case belted to the front seat. Remembering Dads Cub Stories from my childhood, I recalled his most relevant comment about "Tail Wheel Pilot's"... Those who have ground looped and those who are about to! Congrats Kiddo and LOOKING FORWARD TO "Lil-Ugly's" transformation ';-) Thanks for sharing!!
I enjoy watching any and all General Aviation related videos, but what makes yours especially enjoyable to watch is that they have inspired my 10 year old daughter to take an interest in aviation as well. Simply because it had never come up before in conversation while studying for my PPL, she had no idea that women could be pilots outside of the military (we have a friend that is a Marine Corps CH-53 pilot). Now whenever I'm watching GA videos, she insists that we watch yours first! Thanks again for helping me to connect with and inspiring my daughter!
I tear up just a little bit every time you call it lil ugly. It’s beautiful! No adhesive from former interior work, no obvious corrosion, clean panel. I’m so glad for you - that’s a cherry 140A. I’m sure when you’re done with it, it’ll also be cute 🤣
I am very proud of your accomplishments and how you approach aviation. I soloed in a Beech Debonair, I come from a Beechcraft family. I flown military, commercial (Airline) A-330s and have been in Safety committees for 9 years. I have been watching your videos and I will fly with you anywhere in the world. Your airmanship, your knowledge and your cautious approach to everything as you progress with experience is OUTSTANDING!! Enjoy flying taildraggers, it is the best flying.. Also, enjoy the Bonanza, it is one of the best complex airplanes. Stay safe and trust your instincts!!
I love survivor planes and their original paint, interiors, panels and low-tech engines. This is a seventy year old plane that passed the latest annual and has been well cared-for and flies like it did when it was new. You don't need to change a thing and you will still have a gem. OK, maybe AIS and a mount for an IPAD, but KISS for a while and just fly it. I love your flying enthusiasm and your self-confidence. You are likely a more accomplished pilot than I am and you will go far, so keep going Onward and Upward (Arriba e Andelante)
Looks awesome, I just bought a 1947 Cessna 140 this year for my ppl. It's a ton of fun and easy on gas. Im torn between upgrading the dash or just sticking with all the old vintage steam guages. Looking forward to more videos on the progress. Enjoy the ride!
Congrats to the C140A. I learned flying on tailwheel airplanes, but always loved that style. Have lots of fun with it. My instructor always told me that the tailwheel plane is only savely landed, when standing in the hangar.
Good for you, Stevie! You're a girl after my own heart with those antique planes. Keep doing you and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. Congrats!!
Stevie…. Thank you, sharing with us your journeys is priceless, awesome content. Why am I sub since quite some time? I don’t have a PL, but served the Air Force, my wife was a Boeing flightline engineer, I always loved avionics, as a It executive I’ve flown millions of miles. Now this time, you’re giving a old airplane a go and to top it, you bought it in Bellingham. We used to live in Snohomish, WA for over 20 years, I can say, I’ve seen about every corner and in between of this great state. Seeing places I’ve been myself gave me a wave of great memories. So thank you, keep flying and make sure lil’ ugly stays beautiful! Because she is!
My dad had a 140 fabric wing in the 60's and 70"s and this brought back so many good times flying around with my dad in that little taildragger. What a great little plane.
Awesome Stevie. I love your 'Bo but as a Luscombe owner I total approve of your "new" vintage taildragger. This is going to look amazing when you're done !!!
Yay another Luscombe fan!!! Back in 1957-1958, my dad owned a 1948 Luscombe, I was 7-8 years old at the time, and loved to fly with him as often as possible. He bought it out of TradeAPlane for $1600. He had to sell it when we decided to move from San Francisco to San Diego. I don't recall if it was an 8A or 8E model. It was the basic model, no electrical system, and had to be handpropped. I got real good at standing on the brakes while dad got out and propped the engine. If it still exists (and hasn't been repainted), you'd never believe the paint job it had.. Pink with black trim.
First of all, this is a great little piece. So we’ll done. That first song hooked me GOOD! #2, that plane is not ugly, she’s cute and sexy! #3, it’s so great to see a young person who appreciates older, classic things. Lastly, I MISS CALIFORNIA WEATHER! Blue skies to you!
i dont think you understand how happy i am that you are more active like i genuinely dont think you understand, i was always talking to my friends about how you havent been posting lately but im so so happy your posting because you motivate me sm and im actually starting flight school in a couple weeks!! Im so excited
Way to go Stevie. Made me feel so good to watch this video. I have a soft spot in my heart for the 140A. My first airplane was a 140, way back in 1980. I would have liked to have a 140A but there was none available at the time. I was going to say, keep the same original paint scheme, hire someone to polish it, and scour the world for some original wheel pants, but I guess I will wait to see what you come up with. Congratulations!! 👍👍
Ms. Triesenberg, I love your videos even if they are few and far between. Your editing is great, the music is great, and it feels like I'm flying right along with you. This vicarious-living characteristic is something difficult to achieve but you do it well. You make me want to fly, which is an old, old dream of mine. When I was a young man, I flew in a tail-dragger with a good friend. I got a little time on the yoke, which was quite infectious. But there was never time or money. Now I'm old and have no idea whether I could pass a flight physical. But, who knows, maybe I'll try. I should do ground school, at least. Thank you so much for taking us along for the ride.
Just FYI, you need a medical to fly solo and to get your license, BUT you can always fly with an instructor without one. Book a discovery flight and see if the passion reignites.
What a charming video! I had a trying and difficult day today and your cheerful enthusiasm has cheered me up no end! It's great to see you soooo happy to have this little 140A - I think it's cute, not ugly - and I look forward to seeing you progress with it. Keep up with the lovely videos!
WooHoo! a tail dragger great stuff Stevie, most of my time was taildraggers love them, i had a girlfriend (Helen Read) many years ago "1984" who had a 180 that she flew in the Western Desert 550km west of alice Springs, the community was Kintore or Walungurru (aboriginal name) she was a nurse out there, she had got her commercial license on a scholarship for nurses who wanted to fly (the scholarship was called The Robin Miller scholarship after the late wife of Harold Dicks ( founder of Royal Flying Doctor). We had so much fun in t6hose days flying all over the vast deserts in Central Australia, Heres to you having many hours of adventures in her! I love the instrument panel its so cool! look forward to her refurbishment happy & safe flying your awesome! Dx
So sick! I just bought a tailwheel converted 150C from Sequim, WA and landed at KMMV on the way back to Vermont last month. 140A was on the list too, nice find!
Awesome pick, Stevie! I bet you will find yourself flying the 140A much more than the Bonanza. I can't wait for more Lil Ugly content. Love your Bonanza too, but the 140A is more my kind of thing. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
I absolutely dislike flying of any kind now that I am an old curmudgeon, but I absolutely love watching Stevie's adventures! Her videos are such a breath of fresh air and the production quality of them is top notch! I cannot help but have a smile on my face for each and every one of her videos. Keep going Stevie, you are an inspiration to tons of young prospective flyers out there, best wishes!
Thank you so much! The plan right now is to have three videos: one on avionics, one on paint/interior, and one with the finished product. So excited to share!
That little beauty is a great addition to the fleet. It's always better when you are getting paid for something you enjoy and lady you deserve it. Congratulations on the new eagle can't wait to see your new touches.
My aviator dad loved C-140s. He owned two in his time, flying his until a couple years before he passed at 87. He even went flying (with a friend) the weekend before he went to hospice.
Loved the intro, congratulations Stevie! This 140A has a lot of character. I don’t hate the gray and red, I almost like it. Excited to see more content with Lil Ugly! Btw, once restored and repainted, does it mean she’ll get a name change 😂?
Hi Stevie congratulations on your new purchase, you know what the ugly ducking turned into. You look so excited hope you have a lot of fun together, take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
Stevie, you are so inspiring to all young women everywhere! Your videos are exciting and so much fun to watch! So much fun to watch you travel all over in your airplane! God Bless🙏
Congrats on the new bird, Stevie! It's so funny - before you got to the part where you said the name you gave it, I was looking at it and thought, "God, that's an *ugly* plane... but it's really cool at the same time!" And then you got to the part where you said you'd named it "Lil Ugly," and I almost died. 🤣 Again, congrats on the new plane. Can't wait to see more videos on this one!
Congratulations Stevie! I also enjoy vintage aircraft, and your 140A is cute, not ugly! Can't wait to see the new look when it is done. You are one of the most professional pilots I've seen, so I know you will take good care of her. Enjoy!
Thank you so much! She's like a cute ugly to me hahahah. The new paint will look amazing but I'm definitely going to miss the old look! And thank you for the kind words, I really appreciate it!
WOW! Good for you girl! My first plane was a '46 140 with metallized wings. $3500 back in '77, WOO HOO! Ton of fun with that plane, it served me well! 4 Years later it became a '55 170B.. IDT I'd own anything other than a taildradder! Best of luck! Mike
Enjoyed your video very much I learned to fly tailwheels in a 1946 Cessna 140 way back in 1978 76384 which was exported to Australia in 1990 Loved that old bird, and flew her about 400 hours!! But had to move up into the big time with a 1951 Cessna 170A Which I still own and fly regularly' In fact, I'm going to Oshkosh for the C170 75th anniversary!! I'm very excited for you and your love for the old airplanes BTW...your little plane is not ugly...just has a lot of character
I used to own 77A
I was the owner that pulled out the headliner, cleaned out the corrosion that was under it, painted the metal and installed the shoulder harnesses.
If you zoom in at 10:44 you can see a Beechcraft Starship tucked in a corner outside next to the building! 😍
How did she not respond to this comment?
What tailwheel did you put on? Didn’t know there were options other than a Scott.
I’ve got one I need to replace
I got my PPL in a Cessna 140A in 1962. That 140A taught me a lot. It made the transition to more than 50 different types of airplanes and gliders easy after my basic training in the 140A. I owned my own Cessna 185 on both floats and wheels for 14 years. I now fly a Cessna L-19 tow plane for my local soaring club. When people tell me they are going to get their pilots license, I suggest they try to find a tail dragger and get at least their first 20 hours in it. The instructor did not trust me at the controls for starting the engine on the first lesson. Have fun with your "new" bird.
You beat me by a year got my ppl in a 140 in ‘63 .
I got mine in 1959!
This airplane is not ugly! She is beautiful! Congratulations and well done!
I meant it in an endearing way, I promise! 🥰 Lil ugly is so ugly that she's cute! Hahahah. Thank you!
We call those a “strap in and go” bird. No frills. Just fun. Congratulations Stevie. ✈️
This is so sick! Congratulations!
omg tucker!
TUCKER!!!
Thank you so much!!! I'm stoked!!
9:10 damn it!!
@@jakeh3144LMAO...If she doesn't fly airplanes, she's not the one
.
Congratulations, Stevie! We are so excited for you and cannot wait to partner with you to make your 140 a piece of flying art!
Thank you so much! I can't wait to show the 140 off with the new paint & interior at OSH this year!
I am glad the 140 found a good home. I look forward to the transformation.
Thank for you being transparent on price and process. It’s always helpful to get this information.
So fun to have you take on another project, and a very interesting one at that. Looking forward to seeing the 140A restoration!
I can't wait to share the end result!
There are genuinely good people in this world and this young lady is certainly one of them rock on
Do you knw what optics is?
First, congrats on the 140A. It’s not ugly; beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Now you will really learn how to fly. As a former 120, 140, 170B, and S-35 owner (all great birds), I might add the the only thing wrong with a Bonanza is that the tailwheel is on the wrong end!
Truly one of the best TH-camrs in the aviation community. Congratulations on the new plane.

i love the cherry red paint! i think it's cute, it looks its age and stands out. happy flying!

The Beechcraft is a great airplane but the little taildragger is incredibly cool. You rock chick!
Congratulations on your success with the airplanes. Wishing you all the best.
Love your passion for vintage aircraft. Keep up the good work👍
Bravo pretty Stevie, it's fun to be different. Thanks and happy flying❤

I agree,at least own the ugly duck for a while before you change anything, and why would you need to finance it if you have money to burn?
Very fun plane. Be sure to give all your control cables and guides a good first look.🎉
Awesome airplane. Just shows no matter what you own you can go anywhere and enjoy aviation like everyone else.
From a Cessna 170A owner on a cross country trip, congratulations on your new plane!
Looks awesome, I just bought a 1947 Cessna 140 this year for my ppl. It's a ton of fun and easy on gas. Im torn between upgrading the dash or just sticking with all the old vintage steam guages. Looking forward to more videos on the progress. Enjoy the ride!

Back in the '70's I got my seaplane rating in a super cub on floats. The most fun I have ever had flying. That little guy was airborne at 40 mph.
Airplanes are the best corner of youtube. And you're so relatable to a lot of people. Love it
Of course, you can't sell your Bonanza, you got an awesome panel. Congratulations Stevie 👊

Wow. Congratulations Stevie!! That's an awesome airplane. I can't wait to see the upgrades you give her!!

Congratulations!! 120s, 140s, and 170s are great airplanes!! Great videos, keep em coming.
Enjoyed your vid. Great deal! I was born in 1949, but I think your 140A is in better shape. lol. Looking forward to seeing the update
Stevie - PLEASE post updates frequently on this adventure. It will be great to see the progress and the final restoration. How awesome.
Stevie!!! Congratulations! I can’t wait to see how it looks 😊😊
Sick plane. A great new toy to fly and enjoy. Looking forward to the new vids of it soon.
"Props" not only for the plane but for the background / ambience music as well.
stevie you are living the dream good on you!!!
What a charming video! I had a trying and difficult day today and your cheerful enthusiasm has cheered me up no end! It's great to see you soooo happy to have this little 140A - I think it's cute, not ugly - and I look forward to seeing you progress with it. Keep up with the lovely videos!
Best of luck Stevie, safe flying 👏👍🏻
WooHoo! a tail dragger great stuff Stevie, most of my time was taildraggers love them, i had a girlfriend (Helen Read) many years ago "1984" who had a 180 that she flew in the Western Desert 550km west of alice Springs, the community was Kintore or Walungurru (aboriginal name) she was a nurse out there, she had got her commercial license on a scholarship for nurses who wanted to fly (the scholarship was called The Robin Miller scholarship after the late wife of Harold Dicks ( founder of Royal Flying Doctor). We had so much fun in t6hose days flying all over the vast deserts in Central Australia, Heres to you having many hours of adventures in her! I love the instrument panel its so cool! look forward to her refurbishment happy & safe flying your awesome! Dx
Way to go, Stevie!! Great to see another classic get upgraded for another bunch of years in the air! You rock, can't wait to see how it turns out!
Thanks so much! It's been so fun to watch the restoration unfold, can't wait to share it!
Love flying the 140, but I'd love it more if it were a 140A! Better wings and flaps! Looks like it'll be a great looking plane cleaned up!
So sick! I just bought a tailwheel converted 150C from Sequim, WA and landed at KMMV on the way back to Vermont last month. 140A was on the list too, nice find!
Only brave pilots fly tail draggers 😂 congratulations stevie!
Love from South Africa 🇿🇦 ❤
The Great Gatsby!! Too cool, unbelievable, vintage, dream
Awesome pick, Stevie! I bet you will find yourself flying the 140A much more than the Bonanza. I can't wait for more Lil Ugly content. Love your Bonanza too, but the 140A is more my kind of thing. Best regards from Brasilia, Brazil.
Good for you ! it really does indeed do my heart so much good to see someone so happy about their endeavours as you !
Looking forward to seeing the restoration and upgrades! Looking forward to seeing both aircraft at Oshkosh!
Congrats Stevie! That's awesome!
I love it! 1949 was a great year. Congrats Stevie.
This is great content. Honestly loved it. Please break the 140A refurb into several videos on each process. Excited to see that.
Thank you so much! The plan right now is to have three videos: one on avionics, one on paint/interior, and one with the finished product. So excited to share!
G,day from Sydney Australia. Absolutely fantastic uplifting video about "little ugly" I hope you can film the modernization of the trail dragger.
🌏🇭🇲
I thought your Bonanza upgrades were particularly appropriate, esthetically. Can't wait to see how you approach the 140A.
That little beauty is a great addition to the fleet. It's always better when you are getting paid for something you enjoy and lady you deserve it. Congratulations on the new eagle can't wait to see your new touches.
Beautiful airplane, Stevie!
Congratulations Stevie. Enjoy the old timer. A treat to me was the glimpse of the old South African Air Force Harvard.
Your channel is seriously about to explode if you keep on posting consistently like this. Hell yeah
My aviator dad loved C-140s. He owned two in his time, flying his until a couple years before he passed at 87. He even went flying (with a friend) the weekend before he went to hospice.
im a MSFS pilot 😊 and stumbled on your channel. i love it.
Kudos to you for taking this project on. I watched the Bonanza restoration and I'm looking forward to the 140A story line. Good job...
Loved the intro, congratulations Stevie! This 140A has a lot of character. I don’t hate the gray and red, I almost like it. Excited to see more content with Lil Ugly! Btw, once restored and repainted, does it mean she’ll get a name change 😂?
I actually love the color! It makes it feel more vintage. I'm assuming the new paint job will be different, so I'll be a little sad to see it go.
Congratulations Stevie! I'm excited to see what you do with the airplane and hope to see it at OSH!
Thank you so much, Jim! I can't wait to share the restoration process!
Hi Stevie congratulations on your new purchase, you know what the ugly ducking turned into. You look so excited hope you have a lot of fun together, take care and stay safe 👍 😊.
My dad owned a ‘46 Cessna 140 from about 1980-1990. This brings back many memories. Congratulations!
Everyone needs a taildragger, trust me guys 😂 🎉
Why so?
Facts 💯
I want one, and the ink on my TW endorsement is basically still wet lol
@@elongatedshrew5902 apart from being able to enjoy the views and land in your friends backyard, I’d say Pdzzy taught me wel.😌
Old guys try not to make a creepy comment on this channel, task: impossible
Stevie, you are so inspiring to all young women everywhere! Your videos are exciting and so much fun to watch! So much fun to watch you travel all over in your airplane! God Bless🙏
Congrats on the new bird, Stevie! It's so funny - before you got to the part where you said the name you gave it, I was looking at it and thought, "God, that's an *ugly* plane... but it's really cool at the same time!" And then you got to the part where you said you'd named it "Lil Ugly," and I almost died. 🤣
Again, congrats on the new plane.
Поздравляю, рад за тебя! какой красивый самолет)
WOW! Good for you girl! My first plane was a '46 140 with metallized wings. $3500 back in '77, WOO HOO! Ton of fun with that plane, it served me well! 4 Years later it became a '55 170B.. IDT I'd own anything other than a taildradder! Best of luck! Mike
Congratulations, on your new puppy. Look forward to seeing it grow into a beautiful thing of beauty. God bless and keep you, Stevie.
Enjoyed your video very much
I learned to fly tailwheels in a 1946 Cessna 140 way back in 1978
76384 which was exported to Australia in 1990
Loved that old bird, and flew her about 400 hours!!
But had to move up into the big time with a 1951 Cessna 170A
Which I still own and fly regularly'
In fact, I'm going to Oshkosh for the C170 75th anniversary!!
I'm very excited for you and your love for the old airplanes
BTW...your little plane is not ugly...just has a lot of character
My father and my uncle were pilots and I always love airplanes in my life. The old Cessna C 140 A is Top.!! 👊😎💞
