I agree that it was out of line for Claire to use that body without consent, but it honestly didn't bother me that much because I understand Claire's motivations, even before I read the books. While this particular incident isn't in the book, I feel like the book does a better job explaining how Claire feels somewhat justified. You know the scene where they're burying Hayes in a churchyard last season (the night they met Bonnet)? In the book, Claire has one of those time-travel slip-up moments and says something about how medical students used to steal fresh buried bodies from graveyards for their studies. Jamie asked "Used to?" and Claire realizes they do that right now. Young Ian didn't notice. He just launched into a story about how one of the times the redcoats took his father away, medical students in Edinburgh would claim bodies from the prison, and they thought Ian Sr. was dead, so they picked him up to carry him away, and when he protested, they dropped him in fright, and were bummed that he wasn't dead because they thought it would be interesting to examine the body of a long-healed amputee. Ian Sr. called them "ghouls," and Jamie said something about not minding ghouls, very clearly referring to Claire. So yeah, Claire's a ghoul, but it's for a good reason!

Your reactions are like no one else's. Always very interesting to see your take. I do have to say that Claire will _never_ leave Jamie. Never. I realize that Diana is still writing but I know enough about the way she treats her characters that she would never do that. I've been forgetting to mention that I bought both of the books that you recommended during your reaction to an earlier season: The Splendid Century and Jason Salkey's Sharpe book. The copy of the Splendid Century that I got is a 2nd printing copy that is priced at $5. on the dust jacket. I paid just a bit more than five times that amount. Thanks for pointing me toward it!

14:18 convincing ourselves our mistakes are right. Just read a whole book on that. "Mistakes Were Made (But Not By Me)" about cognitive dissonance and self-justification. On the extreme opposite end of too much self-justifying, there's self tormenting and self flagellation. The book has ways out of that too. It's really good, highly recommended. Something in there for everyone.

Thank you, I definitely fall on the self tormenting side!

:-) When originally watching this, I used to ask myself the ? will Roger cause historical imbalance by introducing songs no one has ever heard before to the 1700's. Googles Abide with me, 1847. Roger cannot be faulted as he has no hymn book with dates of publication indicated but the locals must think he's a talented kind fellow with this special composition for the funeral.
Claire did begin to lose her reason rather in this season, forgetting that the knowledge in her head if if gets out and is widely known in the 1770's, could create a population boom that agriculture won't be ready for for decades, at least Roger can only become the 1700's greatest singer songwriter and not completely alter human population history. Also Marsali is lovely and we don't to see her dragged into Claire trouble.

Honestly, I think you'd give yourself a headache trying to "not break the temporal Prime Directive" as they say in Star Trek. As long as they don't refer to something like cars or television, I really don't see a problem in singing songs too soon. The chances of them getting picked up by a publisher or something are so slim because they're in the middle of nowhere. It's not like today, when someone can hop on the internet anywhere in the world, and the song they wrote can be posted online and heard all over the globe. In the book, Roger actually sings some Jacobite songs that really get people excited, and it mentions that there was one song that people particularly liked that he KNEW no one had heard, because it was written in the 1950s, and he had met the composer. But the subject matter was familiar enough that it didn't really matter. He heard songs from other people that HE had never heard, or verses to songs that he knew but were lost at some point.

@@MeyaRoseGirl Well I just thought it was funny. He is certainly safe from ruining future musicians careers 😀 if there's nobody there writing it down. Also funny he could get in touch with a song publisher in say Boston and make his fortune 😀

I tend to get pretty drawn into things sometimes. I actually prefer going to the cinema by myself as well, since I find other people being there distracting! Weird, I know! I also head for the weekday matinees right after my first job, so sometimes I'm the only one in the theater.

Do you react to movies? one of my favorites is THE PYSICIAN, a medieval historical fantasy about a young barber's apprentice yearning to become a true healer. There's an autopsy in that, too, but under somewhat different circumstances.

Every Saturday is a new movie, but unfortunately this one is now disqualified from reactions due to including extensive spoilers. If a request breaks the spoiler rule (ie more than title and year of release) the vote will not be counted for minor spoilers, and the entire film is removed from contention for major spoilers (such as here).
Also this is now an official spoiler comment strike, each person is allowed three.

ok, but the writers are totally shitty for what they did to Roger here. his eyes are perfect and he is simply a shitty shooter. well no. in the book claire literally explain to him he does have a medical issue and he will never be a perfect shot no matter how hard he tries, he can get a bit better but he will never be on Jamie's or Bree's level...like cmon

I completely disagree with you on the matter of Claire's involving of Marsali, Alexa. And of the use of that body. One must never not let sentiment and religious svada get before the better good.
