I have to say I loved your reaction to the Angels :) Taking myself back in time to seeing this as a boy, I always thought Destiny was the coolest name but, if I had seen it with post-teenage eyes, I would be a Rhapsody guy, given my weakness for redheads :) One thing I used to say, back in those distant times, was that Captain Blue was the real hero, because *he* could die! Definitely watch it, Alexa - it's a mighty blast from the past. Not as good as Thunderbirds but better than Stingray :)

I loved Captain Scarlet when I was a kid, and it's still a guilty pleasure now! Gerry Anderson's tech is always great - over-engineered and resolutely analogue; not a digital device in sight!

Historically, this episode is more of a hotchpotch than usual. Cromm Cruach was not ever referenced in England and the ducking stool is laughable. They were used in the 16th and 17th centuries to punish nagging wives, not for any other purpose. In this era, they are as out of place as an Austin Metro would be. I suspend disbelief enough to pretend there were Pagans in England at the time, but this one pushes me to the limit. Still fun, but a British Deity would have made more sense than importing one from Ireland.

6:10 She's amazing. This show was when I first met the reckoning who was Helen McCrory. I only otherwise know her from Blinders where she is equally formidable.

I wouldn't watch it on me own, BUT it's a blast watching it with you. So I'll marathon watch your reactions. Covid killed "Pagan Pride" and if they ever re-start, it 's the ¿second? weekend in August. You'd love it. It starts in city centre at the council house/market square and parades to the Arboretum up North Sherwood Street.

I remember this show as having a 50/50 chance that the "good guys" win. To me, that was one of the special things about it, the fact that you literally never knew if the heroes would win. I used to joke that they came up[ with the story idea and wrote the first half, then flipped a coin to see who was going to win before writing the last half of the story.

I totally loved this series - one of the big things in it for me was that the "good guys" didn't win all the time - I never knew for sure, but it felt like each side won half the time.

Malcolm, i think, is the supernatural representation of Empire. A force of collective humanity equal to the older powers.

The last scene was a pants off dance off of acting, holy cow

The writer of this episode obviously, was extremely early in his career, not doing the correct research or using tainted materials. If it's the same Anthony Horowitz that I'm aware of as he would later enter the world of the cosy Sunday evening murder mysteries ( Foyle's War, Collision, injustice and many episodes of Midsomer Murders) and join the literally world with the creation of the teenage Alex Rider and penning three James Bond novels. There is very much more to his story but I would believe would enter spoiler territory so I'm going to leave it at that

Always a joy to see another RoS review 🙂 The creepy imagery of this episode struck with me through the years, but also, the lovely scene between Tuck and the abbot!

I think this episode succeeds very well in creating a folk horror vibe and a genuine sense of menace. From the moment Tuck says he won't go to the village, you know something very bad is about to go down, and for the most part subsequent events live up to the promise. I can understand your unhappiness about Cromm Cruac being portrayed here in a way that simply conforms to Christian propaganda, and I have to say that they would have been better off not trying to give the god a physical form, as it just looks a bit naff. I find Gulnar a bit hard to take as well - it feels as if Richard O'Brien still thought he was in the Rocky Horror Show (which he wrote). On the plus side, I like Tuck finally getting a spell in the limelight, as he was probably the least developed of the main characters up to this point and it is good to finally learn more about his past. His relationship with the Abbot also proves to be quite a touching one.

I learn a lot more from you than I ever did at school 😄 I always like to see Eilean Donan Castle in the background of your spoilers warning. My family are from the Isle of Skye so it's a familiar image.

Loved this episode as a kid! I had no knowledge of Cromm Cruach in the real world but it really cemented Gulnar for me as the best recurring villain in the show. This episode dripped creepy atmosphere (and despite my lack of understanding, the name Cromm Cruach has been stuck in head for 40 years)

Create reaction to a great episode and added commentary from your knowledge of real and fiction depictions is so enjoyable. I would be interested in your thoughts on The Wicker Man from 1973 and it's remake from 2006 if you have seen either. Start with the original and remake for a comparison the difference 30 years make. Do I think The Wicker Man influenced Robin of Sherwood? Don't know haven't really thought about it.😊

Not the best episode IMO but I still find things to like about it - the interactions between the Merries, particularly LJ and Scarlet, the abbot who I have a soft spot for, and the lovely and historic locations. It is perhaps worth bearing in mind that the show was written for a family audience in the mid 1980s and would likely be written differently now, with perhaps more consideration of other faiths. I was raised Catholic myself but I do realize that the church vilified other deities. IMO, it was...for want of a better term...political and yes propaganda. Oddly enough, in some parts of the Robin Hood legend I can see anti-Catholic satire (Friar Tuck and Maid Marion). Did I understand correctly that you are a Grail Avalonion? Having watched past content, you seem to have a very diverse and interesting background. Would you consider do a video on your background if you haven't already?🤔 Best wishes and LLAP 🖖

Brigadoon with a stopover at Summerisle. Dark and compelling stuff. Mythago Wood by Robert Holdstock might be worth reading, if you haven't come across it before.

Incidentally, much as I dislike the scene of Lt. Ellis working with Kelly to embarrass poor Straker (Kelly does seem curiously unrepentant for the guy who prepared the sodding device, and doesn't seem to understand that SHADO is not his personal laboratory - if he wants a super electron microscope, it would be more conscientious to make a convincing pitch as to why that will help against the aliens, rather than breaking his boss' spirit), I'm always spooked by the sight of Gabrielle Drake out of her Moonbase makeup: the resemblance to her famous (albeit tragically so) brother is striking.
