Unhinged characters, eg those in the books of Ottessa Moshfegh and Mona Awad. I find it fascinating to see how so many of these types of books are in the mainstream. I definitely need to read more!

It seems like you’re more into fiction than nonfiction and I’ve found that this year I’ve gravitated more to non fiction. Would you consider making a video on your favorite non fiction books?
I tend to be a mood reader in that when I’m hyper fixated on a topic I tend to want to read books on that topic. Right now I’m really into Saturday Night Live and bought two books on it.
Do you find yourself making TBR lists or do you mainly read by mood?
    Love your videos!

Something I just thought of is the loneliness of a book like The Catcher in the Rye where Holden, in the wake of a trauma and sense of failure, seems lost wandering around NYC trying to find some kind of purpose. I think we’re all trying to find our meaning and purpose in the world every day so it’s fascinating to read how people go about that

thank you! it means so much that you like my videos!
i’m definitely more into fiction but i’ve actually been reading more nonfiction this year. mostly essays and memoirs. once i have a solid list of recs, i definitely want to make a video!
i’m also a mood reader! i used to make monthly tbrs but they’re a bit limiting. snl is a cool topic to read about

@@ryn.reading I find it funny that non fiction is what actually got me into reading again (not for school but on my own) as an adult. I read Catcher in high school but skipped out on most school readings. One of my favorite college classes was a nature in lit class my sophomore year which covered Thoreau, Dillard, Emerson, many more, and a poetry collection you might enjoy called Catalogue of Unabashed Gratitude by Ross Gay. I didn’t read anything outside of that class though. Then I got really into presidential biographies my senior year winter break and the rest is history. Short story is I flip flop between the two. As for poetry, I’m trying to be more open to reading it because I write poetry but it can make me feel insecure reading others work! (I’m sure most writers can relate though!)
I’ve been watching booktube for around 4 years now and have considered and recently been itching to maybe start a channel of my own because I love the community and supporting small and growing channels like yours that I consider myself lucky to stumble upon. I’ll definitely give your channel a shoutout as I’d like to mention my favorite booktube channels in a video!
