Interesting discussion. Centralization and monopolization of music creation. Your dad being inspired by CCR won't make him a billionaire, but these companies make this kind of revenue.
Yeah, well... how much revenue does an independent artist REALLY make, anyways? Just go listen to most of them... I don't think they really have much to worry about in terms of anyone copying or training their models on that music. Let alone digging into your few dollars of revenue.
Got to pick you up on your terminology about fair use. Fair use is an integral part of copyright law, it's not a bolt on or some weasel technique to legally allow illegal use. It's part of the balance between a government monopoly and the public domain.
"Human creativity" with humans already copying eachother's work, also using AI to improve soundquality and pitch (autotune) and now they get angry that the AI is taking the next logical step. Honestly we shoud've seen this coming.
@@KDMack-qv4wv This is machine learning in its infancy. The hardware is still being developed to mimic the way the human brain works. That in combination with the software, however it is structured, to have the machine function much like a person. Just give it 30 more years. It is going to happen because the oligarchs want it.
@@KDMack-qv4wv Humans can also not create things out of thin air. Everything you do was once learned to you, and you need materials to do so. You use a neural network (your brain) to combine those to make something new. An AI / LLM does basically the same thing on a digital level. This is why AI will never be able to replace all humans. (See it as the chicken and the egg issue) However AIs are created by (large) companies so - at least right now - they are easy targets for copyright legislation. But to me this is very similar for human. For example if you whistle / hum a song you heard on the radio. That's basically a copyright infringement. But then there is something like fair use, which would protect you. AI does basically the same thing here, but is not protected under fair use. Which is why Trump is going to move on to changing copyright legislation that (at least to some degree) it does. And at least to me, that seems fair. Because if you forbid AI using copyrighted material, you basically only can train AI on "public domain" material, basically destroying innovation.
It makes sense that donald trump will do that becaus he got cease and desist by artist to stop him from using their music during his election campaign several times.
Maybe Spotify can sell AI Gen subscriptions, using their library as the training source, and distributing some of the revenue to every artist who has opted their works in to be part of the training data.
Unpopular opinion - If you cannot sue a human (or company) or take royalties from that human for creating a derivative work then you should not be able to sue or take royalties from a person (or company) that uses Ai to do the same thing. There really does not need to be new laws. Just because Ai can do it better and faster is not a reason to suppress it. In any instances that you could have gotten royalties from a human then the same law should apply to Ai.
Humans do not make copies of copyrighted files. They just can't. So they don't violate copyright, while avid CEOs that do not know anything about music nor they contribute to human art, steal the files, which is a copyright violation. Simple as that.
@@federicoaschieri Thats ridiculous. If I take Van Halen Jump and reproduce it note for note I have violated copy right. If I take it and use enough of it to violate copyright even without using the whole thing I have violated copyright and owe royalties or damages. If I take that song and say I want something with that vibe and I reproduce something that does note violate any copyright BUT is an obvious inspirational work from that song then I am in the clear. There is ZERO difference if I do it or if I program a computer to do it. The computer is just faster.
@@StoneXue You cannot replicate the original recording, can you? Have you got the very same guitar, you make the very same finger movements, recorded with the same mics? No, you don't. You don't copy the very same master, which is what is copyrighted. Instead CEOs *steal the masters* to train AI, which violates law.
@@federicoaschieri Laws already exist for that. This is not what the artist groups (the big companies not individual artists) are trying to stop because LAWS ALREADY EXIST. What these big companies are trying to do is stop music innovation because a computer will be able to score a movie, an album etc in seconds. You can even have humans PERFORM the music, thats not what they are going after its the WRITING they are actually upset about. You know this because everything else is ALREADY covered in current law.
It seems people often believe that “human creativity” is a rare, pure essence, completely untouched by external influences, modern or otherwise a wholly original and unfiltered form of personal expression. AI, like other tools, builds upon what creators have always done: copy, iterate, and adapt. However, AI does this on an unprecedented scale, making creative processes like music creation more accessible and democratized. In the U.S., a capitalist society, rarity, whether natural or artificially created often drives value. Before Gutenberg’s printing press, scribes were paid significant sums for their labor because they couldn’t produce books on a large scale, making books rare and expensive. After the printing press revolutionized production, books became far more affordable and accessible. Today, they can often be resold for pennies on the dollar at used book sales without raising an eyebrow. Interestingly, some of the earliest mass-printed materials, after religious texts like the Bible, included popular genres such as romance, satire, and even erotic literature. This influx of printed works did not diminish creativity; instead, it laid the groundwork for the development of the many great fictional works we celebrate today.
To all the artists…get your money upfront. Hate to say it but your “art” is nothing more than bits and bytes…it’s simply information in the digital age. Get used to it because the consumers don’t care. They don’t.
Yes, this is definitely something to be majorly concerned about. I can understand why there are those who think that it's important to loosen restrictions for AI development, but I think that it's important to distinguish between, the kind of AI, which is important to have, primarily because it can solve serious problems, and make our lives significantly better, Vs. something like generative AI art/music. There was nothing wrong with the way things were before generative AI art/music, came about, and creating generative AI art/music means taking away artistic opportunity from human composers, and handing it over to machines, which is far worse than just copyright infringement. And the fact that tech companies are focusing their investments in art/music, is perhaps serving as a rabbit hole, preventing them from creating things which can solve serious problems, and benefit humanity, and ultimately benefit themselves as well.
If you use loops and samples, how can you complain if a computer does fake music better than you? And -we should be told if something is AI created so we can choose to partake or avoid AI crap. Some will love it and some will not. Our only hope is to be the one the audience chooses. So many copy paste producers will be eliminated. They will not have the creative ability to keep up. Answer? Get better. Don’t love it enough to struggle? Ok. But no one owes you a listen. Consider the last time you sat down and put on a pop tune from ten years ago. Now. Consider the fact that I hear Dream On by Aerosmith coming from little fart can cars quite often. That song is from 1973. Learn to play learn to write and make the music that matters. You cannot defeat corporate greed or technological advancement. But you can build your own success. If you have what it takes.
Considering he was using materials for his political campaign (for president), without authorization.. Also, music in 4 years? Ask me in 4 years..? (if I'm not taken out completely, from playing.)

And what data sets were YOU trained on? AI works no different than you do. You take in music. It influences you. You output original content based off of the input and inspiration you received from all the datasets you were trained on (aka all the music you listened to).
Never heard of someone who wrote recorded produced and mixed 1000’s of tracks in a day, or any honest musician who regurgitates copyrighted content and presents it as new material. This is such a redundant, false-equivalency argument
@jimmyco123 What Ai system "regurgitates copyrighted content and presents it as new material"??? Sounds like you don't know what you are talking about.
@@Gaven7r Yes. Try to get any of my AI songs taken down for regurgitating copywriten content. Good luck. That's not how it works. No more than a human "regurgitates copyrighted content" when they create.
5:20 Ladies and gentlemen, do not smash your instruments out of anger and frustration over this. Just contact Trump's people and kindly express why this is an issue for you.
If you go by the standards that artists want then none of them are ethical. They all use prior music to create their own. Nothing happens in a vacuum. Every artist needs to write down who they have listened to and voluntarily write those artists a check. You are entering the world that the rest of society has to deal with. Do you even know about all of the jobs already lost to ai. Do you care.
Obviously, as always, there has to be a compromise. The AI music relies on the 'real' music, so they will have to pay something to support them. If they don't, in the long run they too will loose out. But artists do not fundamentally have a right to profit from training anymore than they paid the artists that they themselves trained on; except the normal price they paid to listen to it.
I don't agree with ai copyrights in the context of what you're discussing as well as the Venus Theory reaction video that did. I do have some questions but please don't think that I am making a case for ai. I'm not. I would just like to hear your view on these questions. 1. Ai using all the music inline to train on. Is that not one of the ways that we learn our instruments and craft? We are even encouraged to "rip-off" their licks, tone, and style. 2. Steve Morse (guitar virtuoso for those who don't know), release an instrumental album called Major Impacts. All the music was original but every song was written in the style of some of his influences, like The Who and Genesis and so on. His music but sounding like the different bands or artists. What do you think about compared to ai? It's scary to think of what ai could potentially destroy in every walk of life. I'm very pro technology as long as it is used for service and nit control. I love your chanel and your views and advice. Would love to hear your views on the above. Thanks.
If’s and mights coulds. Maybe’s etc. Haters form on the left. Repeat after me. If wishes were horses beggars would ride. If AI can recreate your music, write better music.
I hope all of those creatives that voted for trump fully appreciate what will happen to their careers if AI training becomes fair use. If AI created outputs are given preferential treatment to human creations, it’s over.
trump or no trump, fair use is up to the courts not the president. Also, AI created outputs are very much human user outputs. The only difference is speed of execution. Human creativity is still all over AI, as AI operates a transfer of creative resources from the elites to the masses.

I think this article is a little bit of fear mongering. I have been and will be cautiously optimistic about this new world of AI. I also do think less Government involvement is always better because Governments, even with best of intentions, usually end up creating worse unforeseen consequences with regulation. This AI stuff is all so sad, Music is art, art is the expression of the human heart, mind and soul, we as humans appreciate art as it is an extension of the human soul, that's what makes it art, I write, reord, mix and master all my own stuff, I do all of the vocals and all instruments myself with no use of pitch correction or auto tune and I have worked my ass off mastering my craft which is another imprtant aspect as we see the work that artists put in and sometimes it's like 'wow, I can't believe the persistence and focus and talent required to create this' etc and now y'all telling me that AI has anything to do with art? DO THE WORK, LEARN YOUR CRAFT, YOU LAZY JERKS, TRY CRETING SOMETHING YOURSELF AND YOU"LL SEE HOW DIFFERENT IT FEELS TO DO THE WORK AND HAVE THE DEDICATION, I actually can't believe this is even being entertained, AI is not art and these people are making it so hard for true artists to be seen and appreciated, peace out friends ✌
Trump’s policies will always favour large US corporations over individuals. If your musical instruments or equipment are imported, they will be taxed heavily through tariffs. The CARES Act amplified systemic vulnerabilities of individual musicians and venues in times of crisis. While the relief measures helped some, the lack of a tailored approach underscored the need for future programs designed specifically for the arts and entertainment sector. Initiatives like the Save Our Stages Act (later incorporated into the December 2020 relief package) addressed some of these gaps but came too late for many.

@@federicoaschieriWell, I would not agree that the copyright extends down to that level. Lyrics and melody. Mic choice? Mmmmmm. No.
You should get in contact with Trump and share the concerns. Maybe through Elon also.
They make plenty of money

Trump doesn’t understand anything, bud.
I think lobbying has helped millionaires for decades. We just know who Elon is. We don’t generally know who all the decades of lobbyists have been.
IMO, IT IS some fear mongering that WE NEED to be worried about!
@@MindTripExperience bud, do you even know how machine learning processes data?
@@Gaven7r Yes. Try to get any of my AI songs taken down for regurgitating copywriten content. Good luck. That's not how it works. No more than a human "regurgitates copyrighted content" when they create.
she knows her job will end eventually, she will have to pivot or become some deranged activist.
So if Ai Clones our music masters and style, its not considered Copywriting?
5:20 Ladies and gentlemen, do not smash your instruments out of anger and frustration over this. Just contact Trump's people and kindly express why this is an issue for you.
Using Forbes as a news source is like using a septic tank for drinking water.
If AI can recreate your music, write better music.
musicians are like farmers, they produce but little pay for their work.
We should be worried. We may lose all of our revenue

I already run a image generator on my computer for free. And soon the "waifu" market will worth almost nothing.
Soon or later I will run a musical generator on my computer.
And no one will do nothing against what I can generate as long as I share the product for free.
And we will make stuff no artist will never wish to do, something awful, something like: A anarcho capitalist version of Harry Potter starring Billy Corgan.
are they really "creators " though, using AI?? id say they are "arrangers" and "compositionists" of others created and recorded works

Ai music should not get paid.
I think this article is a little bit of fear mongering. I have been and will be cautiously optimistic about this new world of AI. I also do think less Government involvement is always better because Governments, even with best of intentions, usually end up creating worse unforeseen consequences with regulation. Just my humble opinion. I am British so no real skin in the US game but overall I think AI will be a long term net benefit for humanity. But as other comments have already pointed out, nobody knows what he will do and this article is all speculation.
Fighting generative AI content is a losing battle.

I suspect it will make lawyers such as yourself richer. 🤭
