For the past four months, fighting has been raging in Marawi, a city on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. It's the longest and deadliest battle to date against the Islamic State group in southeast Asia. The conflict is now entering its final stages, but it will take a long time to heal the city's wounds. Our correspondents report.

Do note that Philippine Scout Rangers are extremely skilled in jungle/guerilla warfare, that's their creme de la creme; but they were put into urban warfare with just enough equipment. But then, they accomplished their mission within 5 months, with minimal casualties on civilians and military forces. I wouldn't call that lack of training. They utilized their skills to highest level

Duterte said he is not setting a timetable for the operations in Marawi but admitted that the siege has to end.
“If they say ‘Well, we need another six months,’ then we’ll just have to wait it out,” the President said, referring to government forces.
“If I can save one life there, I am willing to wait one year. If I save one life, that is the job of the soldier, then, they just surround the place and camp there until kingdom come if it could save a life,” he added.
    - from Philippine Star (our country's #1 newspaper)
IMO, our soldiers may not be experts when it comes to urban fighting (yet) but this is not the main reason why the fighting took so long. It took a long time because our President ordered our soldiers to prioritize the lives of the captives.

But perhaps the one thing they underestimated is the ability of the filipino soldiers to adapt techniques and learn from their experience how to fight in urban environment.
Alertness and bravery are things they already honed from years of constant conflict. This battle is a mere crash course for the entire fighting force to take ...and man they passed with flying colors.

Yeah because let's forget ISIS in Syria is counted around 30 to 60 thousand strong well equipped, well trained and die hard fanatics.
While here in the Philippines the mauti group is outgunned, outnumbered and outmaneuvered
You also have to understand that the US and France only send airstrike to support the Kurds and only had has volunteers from other countries while the Russian only operate in Syria and mainly aimed at FSA who also fight against ISIS

Montezuma Dizonovsky, sadly the Europe and the rest of the west even if they say they are our allies in the Philippines. They don't act accordingly. Instead they act as if we are still their colonies and slaves. They want to take control of the narrative and will never provide truthful information. Expect western media to always slant, bend, even put malice on their reporting.

Yeah, great army. But ISIS is different dude. Get info somewhere reliable, media and youtube is not the right one. These countries have sacrificed young men as well, Killed by the Islamic state. You mock these countries that one day you'll turn to when another country attack your country? Lol Know the difference between isis linked and the Main ISIS militants. Those guys arent joke, well trained, well educated and came from different side of middle east. They got endless supply of ammo and weapon, artillery and rockets. They got abundance of recruitment.. While maute is trapped, Isolated. Lol war logistic dude. If we didnt cut the supply line we'd be fifhting even the foreigner fighters from middle east!

Your so-called "expert" doesn't even know what he is talking about. Although he has a little bit of a point about the "lack of training" because even the military admitted that they don't have that much experience on urban warfare and CQB as they usually operate in d jungle. Maybe some of elite like d rangers, swag, saf, etc. have but most of the regular force in my opinion dont.
