The Islamic city of Marawi in the southern Philippines became the battleground for a five-month war between security forces and ISIS-linked militants in 2017. More than 300,000 people fled airstrikes and gunbattles that destroyed Marawi’s commercial centre and crippled the region’s economy. More than a year after the Philippines government declared victory over the militants, the government and military say they are doing their best to help displaced residents start rebuilding the city. But many of the displaced are increasingly frustrated about a process they say is too slow.

It’s more feasible to build a new city of Marawi for the residents then preserve the old city ruins as a testament to the resilience of the Filipino and take the hard lessons of what the ISIS and extremist ideology could bring to the society.
Let’s be clearer here: Tolerating the wrong ideology of ISIS was the root cause of the devastation of the city of Marawi, some residents connived with the enemies of the state and let them build series of tunnels under the city for the terrorist to hide. The PH government did what is needed to stop the enemies and preserve more lives, this is a fact that everyone must know.

In Philippines May 2017 a group of terrorists The Maute group and the Abu Sayyaf group led the siege of Marawi City they tried to take over marawi but were easily defeated, the battle only lasted 5 months in October 2017 but the marawi city is still tattered after the battle today.

It's funny that every media keep saying that philippine military has a lack of experience in urban combat, i mean bruh😂 the war ended for just a year, what about the US, UK, FRANCE, and other countries in west? how long has been since they fight ISIS and talibans in afghanistan? They have everything, strong weaponry and exp soldiers, all, but still, failed and after 20 years withdrawn😂 and btw there's also another siege happened in the philippines before Marawi siege, and that is Zamboanga siege that only last 1 week. So Yup, filipino soldiers have lack of experience and weaponry.

@@mr.beanladen1469 there's no difference😂 because the Maute and Abusayaf factions here in the philippines was trained by ISIS in the middle east. Extremist here in the philippines is no difference from extremist in the middle east😂 if there's a difference between middle east and philippines is that soldiers here in the phillippines has a lacked of experience and Weponry but still managed to defeat an enemy by just a year, while in the middle east, 1st world countries that had everything from advance technology, drones, jets, helicopters, logistics, tanks, armored cars, equipments everything, and it's not only US who's fighting there😂 but also other countries who also had a strong military than the philippines😂 i'm not trying to be arrogant😂 it's just a fact, and if for you it's cringe because it's the fact, then sorry man😂

They have an entirely different restrictive environment compared to the rest of the country and even with the other cities within Bangsamoro. Marawi can be more characterized as Middle Eeast environment, conservative. The way they contstruct their house they incorporated an intricate and complex bunkers.
