Loved this. I watched the reactions to Niki Sky’s video and was appalled at the amount of YouRubers bashing her, and becoming enraged simply because she decided to change her ways. Whether she sticks with it or not, it’s her life and her decision. I was shocked when Connor called her “insecure” when in my professional opinion people who are so easily triggered are usually the insecure ones. I agreed with your take on this topic

People are bashing her because they don't believe she's genuine. People are bashing her because she's preaching about getting rid of her high priced luxury logo items from a luxurious mansion while wearing Cartier jewellery. If people don't trust her or believe her, it does not mean they're triggered. If she bought all of those designer logoed items to prove her worth, then she is insecure.

@@marlenepopov8469Exactly. And she made a lot of inaccurate assumptions about why we buy these things, which makes me think she bought them for the wrong reason.

I can’t imagine paying today’s luxury prices. Never purchased a handbag with the intentions of selling it. If that was the case then you can’t afford to buy it. Agree material things should not define you. Save and invest your money. I retired at 56. Still able to travel and pay bills. Get a good financial planner , invest your money and sit back and watch it grow. Nothing wrong with carrying a contemporary bag and you are financially secure. If you can’t put $10k cash in a 10k handbag then you can’t afford it. Another great video. Thank you for sharing truth! 🙏🏾❤️

The problem is it is not even worth the 10$k, it is just real leather with chanel logo on, people are and were paying only for the brand’s name. They are NOT and never was worth the price tag, especially now. My family was super rick for years, generational self made rich and we never bought bags from those brands, we used to spend on shoes, maybe gown dresses rarely, but never on clothes, we spend them on gold or real estate, this is how it should be. If you think about it you can even spend it on traveling and life experience, but why clothes and bags? Just because we are women men think of the easiest way to “trap” us spend money on nonsense by overpricing them. If those bags were used by men it would not reach this level of craziness

The biggest irony is that these bags are all over the place. Unless you're living a luxurious life one or a dozen bags does not denote luxury. If you're in rented accommodation with a regular salary it's not luxury it's delusion. China is selling more Chanel bags than Chanel!

When I buy, it’s because it’s something I like and not because someone else has it. I only spend a small percentage of my gross income on “things”. I have more in savings, and definitely more in investments, than I do in luxury items. If you can afford it, go for it, but do it for the right reasons.

Please pass the collection plate throughout the sanctuary....because this was a WORD!!! It really is a reckoning moment and season we are in right now. All of the consumption has made people go into unnecessary debt, and I am not speaking the influencers, but those of us who follow them and feel you need to keep up with the Joneses...when your name is Brown. We have designer bags but no emergency contingency fund for a last minute disaster, we have designer clothing but no retirement plan, we have the entire Sephora store in our bathrooms but are a paycheck away from financial ruin...and for what? And for who? I commend the influencers that are being in honest about the space they are in mentally, emotionally about consumerism and their complicitness in it. Speaking for myself, I have purchased items I had no business purchasing and I am making a commitment to myself, to be conscious of my spending , do I really need this and why I am buying it. This was a fantastic commentary! THANK YOU!!!

I will never cease to be amazed by how many people casually say “we were all home during the pandemic”. Really? My husband and I - nurse and cop - were pulling mandated back to back double shifts, crawling in the door to an empty refrigerator because no one had time to get to the grocery, barely seeing eachother and exhausted in ways you can’t imagine. We were definitely not sitting at home with our feet up shopping 😐
You made some good points here. I don’t believe most of these influences have “seen the light”. Theyre either up to their eyeballs in debt and panic-selling their items before the bottom falls out of the resale market (good luck, it’s already happening), or, like Anna Bey - who I’ve always thought was outrageously fake, I mean, look at how she’s made her money… selling lies to other women 🙄🙄 - now she’s rolling out a midrange clothing line, of course she has to present herself as moderate. It’s what’s “in” now and she’s going to profit off of it. Lydia Millen is another one… she’s got a different identity every week lol.
For those influencers who have genuinely realized they’re chasing an imaginary dragon, great… I’m glad for them, they’ll be better off in the end and shouldn’t get hate. But I’m willing to bet that most of what we’re seeing has alterior motives!!

This is so refreshing to watch and in line with my personal views. I still love luxury but it’s never worth putting it above - education, investments, etc and it’s NEVER a good reason to be mean to other people, especially strangers. Enjoy if you can - and if you can’t that’s totally ok too - it’s just STUFF.

I care now about financial security and generational wealth. And yes cali is NOT cheap, I live in SF and rent here is up to $5K/monthly 😂 I can only afford to buy LV once a year not like once a month lol. I wish. Not going into luxury debt anymore. Now paying it all off. Lesson learned. ❤ I’ve gravitated back towards Coach again, (Telfar, and target to name a few) and I feel better versus feeling broke. Loved this video!! I too was a former luxury addict but during the pandemic I went the opposite and decided I didn’t need those things anymore. Considering we couldn’t travel or go in office my lifestyle changed drastically. I never recovered the lifestyle that aligned with luxury so I sold most of my stuff and only kept hard to find classics! Also the quality for the price point for ALL these luxury brands sucks so its literally not worth the money anymore !!! XoXo Nikki💋

Too much stuff! And I’ve only had a few luxury bags but the thrill does pass. And the bill is a lot larger, so the stress of paying so much remains even if it wasn’t on credit. It’s just so much for a thing that carries things.
I feel uncomfortable wearing them. Makes me feel like I’m a target sometimes and I feel douchey rolling into my kids public school with a $6k purse even though I didn’t go into debt and thought about it for years. I’ll probably sell my bags.

Yeah the whole idea of the bags being an “investment” just didn’t sit well with me. Yes you can definitely sell your items down the road and some people actually make a profit but to be honest most of us that have sold items know that you usually take a cut just to get rid of said items.

Luxyry can be a money pit, no matter your budget, there’s always something else to get. If you are not smart with money, you can easily get yourself in trouble. That being said, I will never understand why some get mad because one wants to buy less, but the opposite is true too. Why would I get mad at someone that has more than me? I don’t feel the need to analyze that person trying to find out if she or he can afford it. It’s none of my business, I cannot care less. I’m buying luxury if I can and that’s the end of it for me!

For me, it was her sneering tone that the rest of us are just shallow and can never reach the enlightened spiritual plane she levitated to by the sheer force of her superiority. In England it's called being funny or being shirty and it's a VERY distinctive tone. If she admitted she needed the money, I would have respected that way more.

The only time I was happy was purchase movement. Afterwards it is not so much. Enjoyed shopping, until those designer shops treats the client judge-mentally, and their quality have going down and price keeps going up. It just doesn’t make sense. 😂 whoever saying it is investment of buying a bag, they should take an investment course somewhere. Women should inspire other women to use our money wisely. 😊

I think this TH-cam bubble also contributed to this whole thing. It started where we came on here to watch a few people who actually owned Hermes bags before TH-cam who are showing us their collections. Then TH-cam became monetized where people made more money on TH-cam than their regular jobs, this meant that young people suddenly began having disposable income to spend on luxury.
But the TH-cam platform is now saturated and unboxing is not a thing anymore. Now the competition is stiff and people don't make money on TH-cam like they used to so it makes no sense anymore to keep buying $10k bags. If it wasn't for TH-cam, most of the influencers would not be able to actually afford luxury bags.
Influencers have also realized that they can sell their bags and still make money on this platform.
But the bottom line is that we all want to look like we are wealthier than we really are and this has contributed to the social media FLEX CULTURE!
    "THE FLEX IS BULLSHIT".....Bam!

Trends change, TH-cam algorithms change. They are doing this to probably keep the interest of viewers I am sure. It’s all about the YT money.

Buying a bag is not just buying a bag when they cost thousands. Be real. It’s to flex. I doubt the majority of people buy because of “craftsmanship” or “quality” or love of heritage.

I think they’re selling because they’re broke. Some appear to have gone homeless and are shooting videos in their car/home. It’s so sad.

I get that you are trying give people perspective but yikes, this was harsh. I bought my first LV 2 years ago when I got a bonus. It's beautiful and I still love it. I wear it a few times a week and always get compliments. It's okay to splurge occasionally if you can afford it. I bought a 2nd and don't wear it much. It's not very practical. After that I stopped. I really want to enjoy my purchases. I'm not rich but after raising 2 kids by myself, I wanted to splurge. Don't hate!

Buying a purse doesn't mean you need therapy. It's funny that now it's trendy not to buy luxury and TH-camrs are now judging people.@@tolikfox007

Interesting take on the reactions to influencers selling their stuff. But why put that out there if youre not trying to influence someone or everybody. And with that being said my reaction was that they are now selling because buying and influcing people to buy by posting is no longer as lucrative as it was when people were stuck in the house. Everybody has a right to change for what ever their reasons are, and everybody has their right to their take on why. Self Righteous Indignation is not influential.

Perhaps out of respect to the viewers who have stood by you and would be confused why your content suddenly changed? Sharing ones experiences isn't necessarily always about clicks or trying to influence someone, but to give others the confidence to make changes they've been considering in the first place. Sometimes transparency can be educational and helpful.

As someone who has recently grown to love luxury things, I do feel frustrated with the hypocrisy. I’ve never seen an influencer belittle folks who don’t buy outrageously expensive things; however, people like you are being judge mental about how others spend their money. This video is pretty sad

I dont think it is a very constructive idea to relate wanting beautiful nice things with how people living in slums are living. First it gives a moral acceptance of that living in slums could give more contentment than living in a nice environment. Women in slums are killing their infants by strangling when the poverty and suffering gets to them. Poverty, struggling and suffering is nothing to applaud and have as a moral baseline for how meaningless aspire to a good life with luxury might be. Luxury which often include beautiful crafted pieces made by skilled workers, luxury having time and health and freedom is something i think makes human a better version of them selvs. Not allowing ourselves appreciate beauty, art is deprivation of the soul and could lead to crippling depression which again could lead to poverty, suffering, struggle and death. Dont misunderstand be, many women have died for luxury handbags doing sugarbabe/ sex work/ prostitution. It is a about finding a balance, but dire poverty is nothing to applaud or romanticise as it hurts women and children the most.
