This is almost exactly my Gram’s recipe. Her one little difference was, cook potatoes the night before, chop them up and drizzle melted butter over them. Refrigerate over night, assemble in the morning. SO GOOD!!!
I have my late mother-in-law's 'chopper', which she always used to fine-tune her cabbage for slaw. Now I have another use for it!! THANKS for another great recipe!
Oh how I wish I was in your kitchen eating some of this. Thank you! Can’t wait to try it. You do make everything look so very easy and not afraid to try and do ourselves. Yay
Thanx, Kaleb, for sharing your recipes and techniques, too! Yes, I agree, there's nothing better than homemade mayonnaise. I substitute chopped dill pickles for the celery. I'm so happy to see your number of subscribers increasing. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!
Thank you ! My new favorite potato salad ! I was also one of those kids that loved potato salad ! I love pepper as well. Makes me very happy. Love the Chef's facial! Loving your channel !
I made this potato salad for a potluck BBQ and it was a hit! People came back for seconds and thirds yet it was so simple to make. Thanks for the recipe Kaleb :)
I used to use red onions in my potatoe salad but have switched to green onions...chop both the white and green up and toss it all I. To me it gives a much more light taste to my salad. Also a pinch of white granulated sugar...my favorite thing is to have potatoe salad the next morning for breakfast after all the flavors have "melded" together!!... nummy!!...love your videos!!
Always enjoy your videos for the great recipes and your charismatic self. A real pleasure to watch your videos. The cooking ones, the garden ones. Thanks for spreading joy in the world with your work
Your potato salad looks amazing, it’s a nice departure from the standard potato salad. I love that you use Redskin potatoes & don’t cut them before boiling. Adding diced onion to the dressing, is a great tip to infuse more flavor into the dressing. This is one of your best recipes!
I have made this three times since seeing this video, a new family favourite. I'm not a fan of potatoe salad but love this one. Thank you Kaleb, love your recipes.
I was a kid that loved potato salad but just my mom's. She made hers a bit differently than others I've had. Her's had a textual difference that I loved. She never used relish but would dice dill pickles and add them with a little juice. She also added radishes so that you got some crunch mixed with the creamy. She did have some celery but not a lot. She used miracle whip and more mustard than any others I've tried. She used just enough of them to bind but not swim in it. She also didn't have hard boiled eggs which I hear is sacrilegious lol. She boiled the potatoes with skins too but then peeled. I miss her cooking
I have one of those choppers, I use for my boiled eggs to. Makes making potato salad a breeze. Your dressing sounds yummy. Have an awesome day. Thank you for sharing.
I use green onions, radishes, hard boiled eggs, Celery salt, and sprinkle smoked Paprika on top, hellmans mayonnaise. My mom's recipe. It's so delicious
I made a tuna sandwich once and found that I only had a smidge each of dill and sweet pickle relish. I mixed them together and put it on my sandwich. The juices melded together well, and it was nice to get pops of sweet and dill with every bite! Goes well for potato salad too.
OMG - I LOVE potato salad and this recipe is almost identical to mine. The only difference is I use Ground Mustard and I add chopped radish. I've even had it with chopped apple - yum !!! It's a classic, no-brainer for sure - and absolutely delicious !!!!
This is how I’ve always made mine, except the onion was soaked in the vinegar with a little added pickle juice. We also never measured, but yours looks perfect
Simple and a little bit rustic, love the recipe! The only thing that I would add, I use powder chicken stock in my potato water. Just adds a little bit more salt that way you don't have to add more later of course you can LOL
This is my family's recipe too. I have the same chopper, like my mother's and granny's. We do add a little sugar and slice pimento stuffed green olives in the potato salad too. The olives add a nice taste with the other ingredients.
Hi Kaleb!!! I just love watching you cook in your beautiful kitchen. All of your recipes are soooo good, I know because I've made plenty of them!!!!! My husband just said to me that he wants me to make a potato sald and then you put out this video! Can't wait to try it! thanks! :)
N.Ireland here. We add chopped boiled potatoes, celery, mayo, mustard, celery salt, diced onion, diced tomato, diced spring onion, black & white pepper, little salt ...no egg.......then make a seperate diced egg, mayo, tomato, onion, spring onion.
I love potato salad! Yours looks delicious. My mom always used Russet potatoes for her salad, but I like the idea of using red potatoes instead. I definitely want to try your recipe. Thanks Kaleb!
Hi. Just found you! I'm going to start looking for that chopper you have. My potato salad is very similar. And because I was just diagnosed with high blood pressure, I found Mortons 50% lower sodium salt to use. I'm a salt freak so this was a God send.
Potato salad is amazing! I'm from Southeast Texas, so we have the Southern mixed with Mexican and Tex-Mex, a delicious melange of foods. I don't recall having potato salad growing up, but when it came across our plates at a church dinner, I remember seeing my mother writing down the ingredients and asking for the recipe of the potato salad and at least four other dishes! Now you already said and know that a recipe is nice but everyone will tweak it to their own liking. That said, today only one person makes the best potato salad, above all (my ex-wife's in was her mother's potato salad, which sadly she couldn't replicate so I divorced her! Just kidding, there were other and various reasons, lol) and that is my big sister Sandra. For years she has had that respect from the family and she must make it for any family gathering (I am the maker of what I'm told is the best broccoli salad, though it may be no one likes cutting the broccoli and the mess it can make, so I'm not telling them I buy the florets). Our family and extended family are a melting pot of Mexican, Black, White (including German, Cajun/Coon-Ass, Anglo-Saxon and strong influences from Filipino and Korean cuisine) that makes for occasional taste bud heaven. Anyway, I love your channel, especially the cooking; although your gardening is working on me, I'm helping my sister in law do her magic more often, both of her thumbs are green, heck, both her hands! Thanks for being so helpful and kind, which I can feel just watching your videos!
That’s how I make potato salad, minus the relish and celery. I’m not a fan of celery either, especially mixed-in things as I feel like the taste takes over the food. And I’m definitely a Hellmans mayo kinda gal 😋
New subscriber here! Looks so good! Very similar to what I make. Our family's potato salad never had mustard or relish in it. I'll definitely change it up next time and give it a try! Thank you for sharing! ~ Chris
You can print the recipe here: www.wyseguide.com/family-favorite-potato-salad/

Excellent potato salad. I made for a family grill out and everyone loved it!
You always answer the important questions... start in cold water, or not? Peel first, or not? You answered these right off the bat, thank you!
I use that chopper tool for making biscuits. It is perfect to cut the dough to make the biscuits.

I made a tuna sandwich once and found that I only had a smidge each of dill and sweet pickle relish. I mixed them together and put it on my sandwich. The juices melded together well, and it was nice to get pops of sweet and dill with every bite! Goes well for potato salad too.
Love your recipes💖 Thank you❣️
I add vinegar directly to warm potatoes. Potatoes absorb it but not over powering. Skins on, yes! Great, easy recipe!
OMG - I LOVE potato salad and this recipe is almost identical to mine. The only difference is I use Ground Mustard and I add chopped radish. I've even had it with chopped apple - yum !!! It's a classic, no-brainer for sure - and absolutely delicious !!!!

I found that chopper on Amazon, simply called a serrated food chopper. I have wanted one for a while now.
My potato salad is very similar except I add diced pickles and pickle juice for the acid instead of vinegar.
I love potato salad! Yours looks delicious. My mom always used Russet potatoes for her salad, but I like the idea of using red potatoes instead. I definitely want to try your recipe. Thanks Kaleb!
