Reminds me of Russian potato salad, which is the best growing up. Would always help my grandmother make it, we would eat it with cold fried chicken and down with sweet tea.
yess!
I like chopped pickles instead of cucumbers in these mayonnaise-based salads 😊
That sounds fantastic too! 😍
in Russia some people add both pickles and fresh cucumbers
I agree!
Same! 😊
8:45 PUPPY!!! I love it when the puppy is in the background!
Clare just explains the taste with so much enthusiasm. I just love her❤

Thx for the recipe , made it to 3:47 an was hungry so made it an it's resting in the fridge 😂
Amazes me how many places in the world like potato salad. It’s just like what I ate growing up in the midwest of the United States.
Thank you for sharing this delicious recipe! We just wanted to inform that during the sale period until September 3rd, everyone can purchase at discounted prices without needing a coupon code. Just letting you and your followers know ;)
Aaron and Claire, you have changed my life... again! With another delicious recipe arriving just in time to help me use my extra potatoes! 💗💗
Aaron.. I don't know if sandwich's are a big thing in South Korea but if it is then you might want to make Claire's favorite as a video. Thanks Claire for the idea.
Claire is a super-reviewer! She perfectly describes the flavor, which is good, that motivates me to make the recipe!
My mom’s Japanese potato salad is the best. Add thin slices of 🍎 also. I’m half Japanese.
Yes, adding some slices of apple make it more amazing! 😍
That's what my Newfie granny had done. She used Granny Smith & kept the skin on with yellow onion. Mustard & mayo mixed together 😊 & kept her potatoes in chunks.
I made Japanese potato salad and put it on Hawaiian sweet rolls. Oh my gosh, the best breakfast!
Very similar to what my mum used to make when i was a child. We went on these "Scampgnata" days with the local Italian church in sw London. She used to make roast chicken that is eaten cold, i still remember picking the parts that had the most jellified fat on it 😊 and a loaded potato salad that was similar to yours. Instead of cucumber, she used a few jars of insalata giardiniera. Yum.
8:45 PUPPY!!!😄😄😄
Wow, Monday bonus vid
Surprise! 😍😍😍
It's already Tuesday morning here in South Africa 🇿🇦
Love her reaction, supper supportive. Makes me want some.
Oh my goodness! I have been watching your show Aaron & Claire for years and I still love you both so much. Every dish that I made from your tutorial has been amazingly good, especially your 'tomatoes' dishes. LOL Tis the only way my hubby would eat tomatoes. I do Thank You so much for sharing your 'way' without having to 'worry about it'. 😅🥰💜
Thank you Aaron and Claire! This reminds me of my mother's potato salad. We had everything except the corn and carrots. I will definitely be making your version this weekend! Thank you again and greetings from Canada! 💖🇨🇦🇰🇷
I absolutely love your channel Aaron and Claire! You're the best chef, so much fun and highly entertaining, and Claire!! OMG, she's the best You Tube CRITIC. 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Whhheeewww! Aaron received a $700 samurai knife. WTG my friend. She is a BEAUT!! 😮❤
As someone who is an avid lover of this humble tuber, I cannot wait to try the Japanese version.
Tip: rinse the onions in cold water, it will tone down that acrid smell and overly sharp taste even more. Unles you prefer the strongness! 😊
Great Video! Clear and Articulation is Good... Thanks for sharing🙌🙌
Very good, refreshing for me and my family
Looks yummy !!!! And that sandwich ... even better - I love a potatoe salad sarmie. I'm from
South Africa and we load our salad with gherkins and lots of boiled eggs and mayo. Claire you are one lucky lady, but you are always soo nice, thats what makes Aaron soo happy to cook for you 😉
Very easy to follow and so delicious, I shredded half of carrots and its ok also, I did Not branched it...thanks for sharing this recipe....
Thank you for teaching me how to cook amazing food Aaron🙏❤️
I love the idea of a potato salad sandwich breakfast, thank you Claire!
I love potato salad, many different kinds. None of them are as pretty as this one. Great tip about how to keep the cucumbers from making the salad soggy. Definitely will be trying this very soon.🎊
I have all the ingredients and was trying to decide what to make with the potatoes! PERFECT TIMING!!! 🎉🎉
I just finished making it and it's so good that I'm going to eat the whole thing.
I added shallots instead of onions and bologna instead of ham. And some green onions of course!! More delicious! 👍
Thank you for showing the easy way to make this recipe.😊🙏
Muchas gracias
Aaron, this is the first video where I witnessed you NOT using green onion. Are you feeling alright? 🤒🇺🇸🤝🇰🇷
I make this at home, my favorite!👍🏻🤗
There are some parallels to a German Kartoffelsalat
Pretty similar right? 😍
Yes, it's very similar. But Germans would never think of mashing the potatoes.😨 But I'll try it anyway. 😊
Yes! I was reminded of my German friend's recipe (from her grandmother).
At least for one half of Germany. The other half does it without mayonnaise and sees it as a crime to use Mayo
Update I couldn't wait 😂 just finished eating ours and it was delicious 🤤🤤🤤 thank you Aaron and Claire 🫶
I love Japanese mayonnaise but sadly hard to get here now in South Wales uk at a fair price 😢 May have to treat myself just to make this 🫣🤤🫣
If you've got an immersion blender, it's very easy to make it yourself, and it won't be in that squeezy bottle that is impossible to fully empty
Thank you Aaron! Will be making this recipe this weekend.
You need a ice cold beer😃
Tell me about it! 🤣
My favorite salad and you presented it perfectly!
Welp you’ve done it again. This tastes amazing. Thank you!
What perfect timing.. I have half a bag of potatoes sitting in my pantry right now so I'm definitely going to make this 😍
Japanese and Korean potato salads are probably my fav potato salads. I didn’t think anyone could improve on American potato salad that has so many varieties depending on the region. But this looks like the ones I’ve had in little Tokyo and Korea town in LA. I’m going to try this recipe. Thanks for the inspiration
Awesome! I hope you enjoy making it! 😁👍
I just made this for lunch and it was excellent! Thank you for the idea 👏🏻😀
My grandmother's potato salad is a lot like this--just pickles and celery instead of carrots and salted cucumbers. And with milk. It's my favorite kind of potato salad!
Also: Good on Claire, doing the dishes.
Made this today. Thank you for this awesome recipe!
Mmmm, yummy. I used to buy this by the bucket load from my local 7-Eleven while living in Japan. It’s just so moreish. I’ve never made it before but will do this week. How long does it last in the fridge in an airtight container?
just made this - very nice, went very well with a feta cheese salad, and slicing from a cooked ham joint.
A Tuesday morning special SWEET thanks for another great video ❤❤❤❤
You're so welcome Wilfred!! Thanks for the love and support! 😍
@@AaronandClairenow and always
I like when Claire took the first bite them she pause a bit like wow it’s delicious 😅
I am one who has to leave the potato skins on. An excellent source of potassium. Also, depending on how you spice it, it always tastes better after a day or three sitting in the fridge, if you can wait that long...
Reminds me of German potato salad. Im definitely making this! I wonder how it would be with tuna in it....
My mil is from Hamada. After having her potato salad, I’ve never wanted it any other way. 😋
Just made it and eating it now. Very nice.
I’m gonna try this! Thank you for sharing!
That's very similar to the traditional Czech potato salad :) gonna try it next time I'm having a schnitzel.
as a Russian I got so confused😅it looks just like Russian salad to me. we don't mash potatoes though, just boil them and cut all the ingredients into cubes. well it's delicious no matter how you call it
Very good idea!❤
Your dog, so cute! Can't wait to try this without corn, with celery and green onion also!
Thanks you very much ❤ i love it🎉
Looks delicious ❤❤❤
Hmmmm, I'll give this recipe a try but I already have my own perfected potato salad recipe which has lots of crispy streaky bacon. Also my absolute favourite banchan is water chest nut jelly - I came to know this side when we had a Korean bbq shop open up not far from my old family home. The owner would make this herself and I would have numerous dishes of this while dining there. 5 years ago she closed her shop and I have not found this dish at any korean restaurant since. Do you know this banchan?
Dude did you just read my mind? Came onto to youtube to look for a recipe for Japanese Potatoe Salad and you've uploaded this! Feel free to read my mind again if it's going to be a tasty dish like this.
Definitely trying this! 🥔
I love potatoes salad, so fresh and tasty 😋
Very popular salad in Poland.
I'm "forcing" my cat sitter to experience new foods, new flavors, and new movies (while he comes over to play with my cats and learn some of how I train my cats.) He will be here this weekend and I'm making Japanese curry. I think a Japanese potato salad as a side dish would be delightful. (The last time he was over I made him Spam Gochujang Jjigae and Gochujang mushrooms.)
Wow tasty recipe😋
That's the biggest carrot I've ever seen in my life
Claire brings it home! Without her enthusiasm and comments it’s just another recipe.
Very nice. Thank you.
It's almost the same as russian "Olivie" salad but we use canned green peas instead of corn. And we didn't mash potato but cut it in cubes. It's traditional new year (christmas holiday) salad in Russia and other post sovet union countries.
Thank you for uploading this video clip looks delicious 😋. Just what store did you get that carrot must be what's called a horse carrot lol.Florida USA 😊Rainbow 🌈Chef 😊🙏🙏👍
Where can you buy in the Philippines?
Anything is better with kewpie mayonaise! :D This is such a nice example of a dish the Japanese have adopted and made it their own.
Good hubby, cute dog, happy wife❤😅😊
Looks great, except I would leave out cucumbers, I am allergic to them.
Love the comment normal size carrots. The one you showed is the biggest carrot I have ever seen.
Thank you!
Do you guys have electric kettles?
Looks so yummy
I like my potato salad with a bit of hot sauce on top
Hello from Washington State 👋
Those prep skills tho 👌
What makes this Japanese in particular? It's just normal potato salad. It's like the Russian.pitato salad they have in Spain.Just curious, why you boil the potatoes, carrot and egg separateky? If you making hard boiled eggs, you can boil the carrots, potatoes, egg in the same pot at the same time. It cuts down on time and dishes.
If you were to layer & shape the tasty potato salad in sundry ways, you'd have something like a Peruvian dish with precolumbian roots known as causa. If you were to make a Korean version of causa, what might it be like?
I love this dish! I prefer microwaving my potatoes for mash potatoes
Claireee!!!! 7:08
Aaron~ wanna askkkk... If we made it fairly large portion, how long will it last (in refrigerator)???
It can be stored in the fridge for 3 to 4days! Hope you enjoy making it! 🤗
Woooooooow japenese cooking amazing
😋 cucumber
Those knives are Gorgeous, but there is NO way I could, or would ever pay that much for a knife set.
Your Potato salad is absolutely AMAZING looking. I'm going to have to make this.
YUMMY😮
Use dry mustard powder and add an extra egg!💗
감자 대신 고구마를 써도 되나요?
Can i use chicken instead of ham?
I accidentally used soft potatoes in my potato salad the other day and my German palate felt that it was ruined. I'll pass on Japanese style potato salad :')
Can we even get giant carrots like that in the US without going to farmer's markets or other more expensive grocery stores? lol
How come - japanese salad from Korea?
Aaron I would like to know WHY do you ALWAYS add sugar to 3verything you make??
That’s a great question! In many Asian dishes, sugar is used to balance out flavors, especially to counteract saltiness or spiciness. But sometimes, in dishes like this, it’s also used as a flavor enhancer to improve the overall taste. I usually use just a small amount, but if you prefer less sugar, feel free to adjust it to your taste. Hope this helps and if you have more questions, just let me know. Happy cooking! 🤗
No Soyu?
❤❤❤
I can't hold a veggie while slicing that way 😢 ended up holding onto each side while slicing.
