- Dad's 1971 chevy el camino needs some TLC to be passed on down through the generations to come. I'm now finally ready to take on the quarter pannel replacement, which I've been avoiding for quite some time. Starting with part one which is the stripping of parts and pieces that I need out of my way to start the cutting process and then we will be welding the new one on! Just trying to keep pops legacy alive with the knowledge I have while having fun and learning along the way!!
-tail light removal
-trim removal
-bumper removal
-smiles 😁

You are what everyone would want their child to become. You understand tradition so well. You got this!
🙏💯 thank you for that. Truly!
Your doing great girl. Love you
Sorry about your dad....🌷
Tomorrow I lay my mom to rest from cancer.
A year ago I started my final custom build and she was ecstatic to see it when I was done.... Then in November we found out her health condition. I tried so hard to finish it. Being it's only me things don't move so quick anymore. Plus money is always tight.... 2 weeks before she became bed bound I borrowed some money to get the pearl pigments and the clear coat so she could see it painted.... I told her I had gotten everything to spray it....she started crying. I didn't understand until she said she wanted to be there when I painted it. Talk about my heart breaking!
Anyway, I'm sorry for bumming you out with my.. story...
You're doing a great job. Your dad IS PROUD. 🌷
You didn't bum me out at all . I'm so sorry for your loss🥺😭 it never is the same. Props to you tho for making it happen for her. It's not easy 😭 much love man
@@kirstieskarz 🌷
Blessings to you for taking in your sisters kids. Also working on the El Camino in your Dad's memory. Lost my dad to cancer in 1985.
Love seeing your baby girl wrenchin' with ya, my daughter started helping me in the garage at the age of 7, and today she's 23 and we still wrench and do car shows together..... Keep the Kar Kulture goin'
🥹😭 they grow too fasttttttt !!!!!! I so hope she stays in the carscene, I know how passions can change so easily but I feel she has some oil in the veins for sure 😜
You need magnets ok for the body

Kristie, you’re a good person with a great heart and soul! Keep grinding and keep up the great work! You’re making your dad and sister proud! Sending you all the best vibes and mojo I can.
You're kicking ass and taking names in your dads honor! Another great video.
Now I know how many arrowhead necklaces I need to make for you guys. 5 of you all together? I've been flintknapping stone arrowheads for couple years now. I wrap them with a copper or Gold wire and put them on leather strips. Can wear as a necklaces or hang it from the rear view mirror. I'll ask for a fanmail po box after they're done. Take me couple weeks or so I gotta grab some more wire from hobby lobby.
Your Old Man Is Smiling Down On You Kirstie. Stay Grindin Chick 😎👊
That would be so amazing! 😊 how cooool!!!!!!!😍
Sorry about your dad! I lost my dad to stomach cancer in the spring of 2019 (right before the world went crazy with Covid). It was stomach cancer, he was perfectly healthy then had heart burn and 6 weeks later he was gone.
He built Porsche’s in his garage. He mainly built them for racing (SCCA and PCA). Fortunately he left me his euro spec 1977 911. It was the first one he bought in the early 80’s when he lived in Germany for a few years. When he moved back to the states (when I was born basically) he imported it back with him. It sat in a garage or barn for the last 30 years, so since getting it into my garage I’ve been sorting it out (when I can afford parts and have some time to kill). It’s not in terrible shape, just mostly going through all the rubber bushings and stuff like that that just goes bad with sitting for so long.
There’s just something different about generational cad people. Your dad is still with you everyday and he’s proud of what your doing!!
I'm so sorry for your loss 🥺😭 ita so hard to loose someone so close I wouldn't wish that pain on anyone. Cancer is one hell of a fast worker 😭 by the time we found out he had it they gave him months. It's just not fair. Super cool that you have that piece of your dad! Don't give up!!! It's going to feel like he's right there with you when you drive it all finished 🥹
Love the video. You're such a great Mom. Your Dad is definitely smiling down on you.
I so appreciate you!
Keep hustling🔥
You are...... AMAZING!🥹❤️ thank you so much! The hustle will never stop.. well mabey someday 😅🪦⚰️🤷♀️ but untill then Imma keep progressing! 🙏🙌
Heck yeah keep kicking ass on the el can’t wait to see it done, you have motivated me to get mine finished🥰
May his memory always be a blessing to you
Let's goooo!!! I could listen to you talk all day💯 thanks for the 2 this week
.Thanks for helping PFI this week I know you got recruited. The Race will be epic . You Rock!
The first panel is always the hardest. Just remember to rip and cut that old stuff out fast and fearlessly because you are going to make it better! You got this! Can’t wait for the next video.
Your Dad would be so proud! You're taking on so much just with family and still make time for the hobby/passion. It's awesome to see your daughter get involved too. I also have cancer (multiple myeloma) and have been building cars since I was 15, I am in my mid 50's, retired but still continue with the hobby, currently building a 77 trans am with LS conversion, ground up build. I'm more towards the finish line with it. I also have a 72 Blazer that took 5 years to build between work and family. You'll get there with the el camino, just keep plugging away at it. More importantly, you're setting a great example for those kids on many levels.
🥹😭🙏 thank you so much for all the support! I'm sure trying over here. The kind words mean the world so appreciate youA
You got this Kirstie. The fair was a great choice to decompress. Besides the joyful laughter of children is some of best music for soul. Its ok to be a Night Owl.
You’re a great girl and an awesome daughter that is definitely making Dad proud!
That's a great plan girl
Love the sound of that thing. When you fix the exhaust, don't fix it TOO MUCH. 😁
😂🤣😂😉🫡 trust me I got you!
Thanks for another Kirstie !
thanks for getting the kid involved in our sport/ hobby/passion!!!! have a ratty 71, 72 and 74 chevy that keeps me going ( 60 years old ). keep building!!! peace
Nice video Kristie. I too am a one man show in my shop. I'm a 67 year old single childless houndman so I have lots of time. It's the journey not just the destination. Thank you for your time.
Isn't that the truth!! It's the destination!! That's all I see, that finish line! 🤩
@@kirstieskarz The finish line is nice but the building is where all stories and memories come from. When you get done you will just have to build another one, forever. Each one will be a little nicer. It's a progressive disease. I'm building a drag and drive 53 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup with a 1200 HP Chevy 6-71 blown/nitrous inline 6 292 for the 8.50 class with a manual. Hope to see you at the track one day.
My dad did body work for a living. He passed his knowledge on to me. I've worked in body shops on and off the pass 40 years. I now fix all the fender benders and rust repair on the company trucks. I have 2 daughters that have no interest in what I know. No one to pass it on to. I dont even want to know where my Camaro will end up when I pass on.
This makes me so incredibly sad 🥺😭💔
You’re doing great just take a day at a time when we lose our parents they’re always with us. We see them in a split second their smiles. They’re funny things they did. It’s just always with us in our heart. You take care of your health too and take care of yourself.
Who wouldn’t wanna be your buddy …… congrats on the channel ….You do a great job of making it entertaining and being yourself !
Thank you so much for hanging out and sticking around. I so appreciate all the support and comments and love! You ROCK !! 😊

I'm sure your Daddy would be Happy and proud of you wanting to pick up where he left off. Extra nice old El camino, keep up the good work. Old State fair brings back a lot of memories!
This the second video of yours I've watched and I heard some of your story of your dad and your sisters children and your own. Love to see your little girl take an interest. A mini you in the making. I am a Jeep guy building several highly modified Jeeps and I am deeply impressed with your take the bull by the horns and be damned can do attitude. Your a beautiful young lady with the drive to get er done. Got a subscribe and like from me. There will be setbacks, there always is in one form or another but your going to be fine. I will be watching future videos. Your going to be an inspiration to many. Make your own luck! Thanks.
Thank you for taking the time to watch and support and love. Means the world. Definitely doing all I can, and won't ever give up till I'm 10ft under. But comments like this truly make my day. Thank you
Awesome car! Your Dad would be proud! One thing I would recommend is once that panel is off is treating the exposed areas with a rust prevention product. Keep up the progress with everything you do!! You got this!
Thank you so much for the love and support! I will definitely be hitting it with rust protection for sure!!! Great advice thank you!!!
Love a woman that can work in the garage! You are beautiful and I love the way you appreciate your dad's legacy. ❤ keep on keepin on!!
Sorry to hear about your dad and your sister Kirstie😢

Yo goo girl...much respect sorry about your dad..lost my mother to breast cancer..know the feeling..I also build cars
With every upload this girl kicks ass she's amazingly beautiful 😍
🥹you're too sweet thank you!
Ive struggled forever with just grabbing hand tools and tackling projects. A friend of mine impressed on me how worth it it is to use the right tool for the job years back. Its still a struggle every day, but i think of what he tried to teach me every time my dominant hand hurts from overuse when i bulldozed some project with hand tools instead of setting up an impact. The El is going to turn out great, you can do this 👍. I like your close ups when you talk to the camera, people's eyes intrigue me, yours are beautiful.
Love your story and your enthusiasm... Glad to see TH-cam helping smaller channels surface.
Heck yes thank you for the support 💯🙏❤️
I understand your pain when I’m working on a project all my tools become a mess. I just recently had to organize them because I did not get back on that project yet and was sick of looking at all the parts and pieces and tools. My current vehicle project is a factory restoration on a 1929/30 ford one ton dually flatbed/grain bed pick up for my homestead
Cars just as beautiful as you. Can't wait to see how they turn out.
Yep, This is definitley my new favorite channel. Can't go wrong with Hot Rods and a pretty lady to look at.
🥹😭🙏 thank you so much that means the world to me for real 🌎
@@kirstieskarz you're welcome , I'll help out with advice when needed, I started working on cars when I was 7 helping my grandpa back in the 70's so I've got a little bit of experience. 🤣 Took an auto body repair course during highschool too. I LOVE Cars probably more than women,😂 which explains why I've never been married. 🤷
I admire you for wanting to finish his car. I fully understand it, my son and I were building a V8 S10 when he was killed in a wreck. It was a passion of mine to finish his truck.
I wish you the best in life and the fact that you love what you do is more valuable than you can imagine.
I'm so glad I found you!! Come to TN and we can do all that together in my big shop..!!!
Love the fact you are carrying on what your passion for

pure genius leaving in the last two bolts on the bumper. first time watching your channel.
It's fun family videos like this that a great to watch but I'm sure your dad is smiling down saying that's my girl and a big smile knowing his granddaughter is in there wrenching away with Mama on grandpa's car, I can't wait to see the end results
Thank you so much for the support 🥹
Wow - I gotta tell ya, I admire you so much. I'm new to your channel and hearing that you lost both your dad and your sister then adopted her kids. Girl, you're a straight up bad ass!! And I love that you're just being honest with your journey, not acting like you know it all. Just having fun and working through the issues. You come across as being just a super real, super down to earth chick that would put anyone at ease that happens to be around you. And then there's the gracious gratuitous body shots with those short shorts on....holy crap you're dead sexy woman! haha I sound like I'm crushing. Maybe I am but honestly I'm just loving the channel so far. Cheers
His gen x fight was passed down to this one. 😢 2 minutes in! Also, great lighting & camera angles..ty
So sorry about your dad! Stay strong keep kickin azz! You're a beautiful saint btw!
On a lighter note. Currently restoring my first car. '74 Nova hatchback. So I'll definitely be keeping up on your build as well. Cheers from Alberta Canada 🇨🇦

My condolences to you for the loss of your father. I lost my Mother in February. It hits different when losing a parent. I enjoy your videos, keep up the good work.
So sorry for your loss 🥺❤️ and thank you for the support!!
So sorry to hear of your Dad, big hugs!
Sorry to hear about your dad I lost my dad in 2007 we built muscle cars we did chargers we did roadrunners we did all kinds of moonshine cars❤
Admire you for caring for not only your kids but your siblings kids. If I may say bless you all and wishes for successes in all things
❤️🙏 I appreciate you
I never put my first quarter panel on until I did.Measure 3 or 4 times like you I was by myself with the help of vise grips
Sorry for your loss i lose a lot of family member to cancer and my dad it sucks but he looking out for you
I wish you were closer id come over and help guide you. I did both quarters on my el Camino years ago. But if you lightly sand the seams up the back you'll see the spot welds you need to grind or drill out. On the front side if the wheel, The bottom seam to the rocker. Just cut the quarter above the seam. Once you have it off go back and grind the left over quarter off the rocker. Across the top since you're replacing the entire thing id just grind the spot weld down and peel it off. You need to drill a bunch of holes in the new quarter to spot weld in in place. Again Cleco's are cheap and will hold the quarter up in place as you fit it and they are quick to put on and take off. Good luck, but i don't think you need it. You're doing great.
Such great advice thank you so much for the tips!! It's so daunting ain't gonna lie. I'm nervous as absolute heck 😅😂
@@kirstieskarz
It's only scary because you havent done it yet. Don't worry, as you go you'll realize it's way easier than you thought. Remember it's only metal. Nothing a grinder and a welder can't fix.
Sorry to hear of you dad. But some helpful hints after I just did quarters on my 68 el Camino. I would cut inside the all the seams and get the bulk of the metal out of the way. And I would look at doing an outer wheel house while you are there and it will handle the seam around the wheel. But by the video it looks like the inner drop downs are in good shape. I would be glad to send you pictures of where to cut to get you started
Cleeter and Squirrel did the same thing “Hibachi Auto “ good reference vid! Keep up the energy
So awesome to see! I lost my Dad last week due to a severe stroke and brain aneurysm, I got his GMC pickup and plan on doing the same thing. Thank you for sharing your video.

I've seen a few episodes of your channel, after work, having a few beers. I thought it was cool that you wanted to document the learning process; dope! The more I watch,it seems like that I get more invested. I really want you to kill it on the El Camino! What can I say? I'm a fan!
Thank you so much 🥹🫶 I'm a fan of yours as well! Anyone who can understand my channel and like it is just ughhhh amazing. You and me ...we friends now 🥹
Wow shit i guess i didn't realize that your sister passed and you got her kiddos.....so weird how close our stories are. My sister also passed in 2014 and I too adopted her three kiddos , have 2 of my own and now have a family of 5. Trust the process.....kids, work, garage life all can be messy but at least you have the courage to put it all on here to show everyone. Reading a lot of your comments its very clear you have ALOT of fans and supporter's that are here to watch this channel grow and succeed. Wish you nothing but the best as it takes a special person to raise that many kiddos, trust I know LMAO!!!!! Keep killing it girly you got this!!!!
Wow props to you as well!!!!! I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss 🥺 loosing a sister is never easy and that pain never fades especially when you see her face and personality in her kiddos all the time. It's alot. But gosh is it rewarding. What else are we here on this earth for except to make an impact, and pass on knowledge and insure the generations to come when we're gone kniw that knowledge and remember our names. I just take it as a gift in a sense, life gives me alot of lemons 🍋 but with so many kids squeezing we got lots of lemonade for all 😂. I hope your karma bank is overflowing and I'm wishing you and your "huge af😜" family the absolute best💯
That looks like my garage
You are fantastic I love your helper. If you need a hand let me know I'm 73 yes and bored to tears but I'll hold your Camara for you if nothing else.
I just put a heavy coat of wool wax under my car this year. A little touch up each year should prevent the fate of my last 3 vehicles.
Everything I have ever owned has rusted out, not letting it happen again.
You're crushin it !! Big things to come!
Keep up the good work 👍 just a little tip use a 1/8" drill bit to drill out the rivets. It makes removal easier. Also use a spot weld cutter to remove the quarter panel.
Now that you have the seems exposed, you should be able to grind the paint down and find all of the spot welds that need to be removed. IF you elect to use a drill bit to drill the spot welds, be sure that you don't go thru both pieces of metal. That way you have a nice lip all the way around to spot weld your new quarter panel to. Also, with regard to you having a preference for hand tools. To be very blunt, in my humble opinion, power tools are used WAY too often. That isn't to say I never use power tools myself, just simply they do have their time and place. I find it amazing how much damage people do to vehicles simply because they used an impact when they really just needed a wrench. Keep your head on your shoulders. I know this seems like a monster of a task ( and to be honest, in some ways, it is ). Take your time, think fast and work slowly towards your goal! You'll get there!!
P.S. Let the new panel help guide you to what all of the old panel needs to be removed. While it may seem like more work, in the end it can actually save you a lot of time and aggravation.
Great advice! Thank you thank you! Appreciate you taking the time to guide me in the right direction. 🙏 alot of solid knowledge there!

Just found your channel and subscribed.. being an old Hot Rodder myself love seeing this and getting your baby girl involved is wonderful.. ❤️❤️ I'm sure it's been answered but the fitting you found attached to the bumper at the 46:24 mark is the air line for the rear air shocks.. 😎🤘 All the street racing cars from the 80's had air shocks maxed at around 120psi.. 🤣😂❤️❤️

Thank you so much for the support! Means so much!!!😭🫶🙏
It depends on what type of replacement panel you have.. if it's a whole panel you locate the original seams and for the spot welds I've always drilled them out. I'm not going to lie, it's a pretty big job but ofc it's doable. Far as holding it in place..... worry about that when ya get that far lol. Step by step. 😁 If I was closer I would definitely help ya out. I'm not a pro but I do pretty good haha
