I really love the design, but I utterly hate IDW's incarnation of star saber as it's just a embarrassment to character.
Agreed.
At least it increased his profile enough to be included in Earth Wars, who is patterned after G1 and being on par with Optimus in dedication to the Autobot cause (and being Justice Warrior of the Year for three years).
There's a lot of Gundam influence in this sculpt.

This is gonna be my first Flame Toys. Was luckily enough to get him on flex pay thru Sideshow.
Too damn lazy and no longer have the patience to build a Gundam nowadays.
So this, to me, is best of both worlds for the Detolf.

Bobby breaking a toy, especially an expensive Robert D toy, is simply fantastic.
The forearm pieces were put on upside down. That's why they weren't fitting correctly. Sits flush if you put them on with the gold claws facing down.
Nice redesign of the character. I'd buy a cheaper version of this design, but it'd be an updated version of the cartoon character. I hate most of the nonsense that IDW has done since Furman left.
IDW had an interesting take on Star Saber but it’s a shame he was weak as piss.
This, and the Kara Kuro Kiri Optimus Prime is what I've been expecting more than the MP-44.

The Flame Toys figures are comparable to a Metal Build but not all Metal Builds are equal. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think you’ve only done a review of the Laevatein. While the Laevatein is a good figure in itself I wouldn’t say it represents the best the Metal Build line offers.
So tired of people saying they need their Transformers to transform. I personally don't! The robot is the character, and the vehicle is incidental! I'd love for this to get the model kit treatment like their drift did, so I could afford an official IDW star saber
The planet x's has equal articulation and its a real transformer unlike this thing here that only represents the character. Transformationnis is the gimmick of transformers if you call yourself transformers fan, don't waist your money on this buy one that transforms keep it real.

Not gonna lie, I saw this this morning in my subscription box and without my glasses thought it said Fans Toys Star Saber. At which point I started questioning where the hell they were hiding *that* announcement.
BTW, this episode's drinking game has you taking a swig whenever Bobby says "so to speak". :p

A lot like Drift he has a whole lot of Gundam design aspects. This one is beautiful i just have no attachment to it. That Prime thats coming soon is gonna have to be mine.
I honestly agree as well that there is more value in this figure than the MP-44. It has more presence, engineering, sculpt, and paintwork. Plus the electronics in tow. But more importantly in my opinion is mass, what I mean by that is the overall durability in the plastics and weight that should equal with the size of the figure. MP-44 has had some stress marks which I deem in my opinion as a low quality. This star saber is flawless however, don't mind the hands on him since how durable the plastic is despite a little concerning
MP-44 is just way overpriced, so I went for MS instead, MUCH cheaper because I don't need all the plastic that will be in the box forever.
About this figure and Flametoys, I've to agree they offer a better quality/price than Metalbuild, but we still have to give credits to Bandai since I can see Flametoys does take some inspiration from Metalbuild line.
I can see why ppl like these figures even though they are not for me, they look like premium action figures but for me a TF needs to transform it's more then half the fun. I don't actually play with my TF that much I transform them back and forth a couple of times then I pose them in robot form (about that last part there may be some exceptions like Grimlock) but I like to know that they can transform and I appreciate when they do it in in a very smart and well engineered way, specially when both forms greatly resemble the original character design. About the price point, as a collector I believe that nothing that is produce in larger numbers (in the thousands) should even come close to that price point, only very rare figures should go up for that much. I can't justify that price point for a regular edition figure that was mass produced, the materials, the paint, the engineering and the molds may be good but when producing thousands the price for all those things is divided between all those thousands so the retail price shouldn't go so high up. All those features and techniques were already well developed by a lot of other companies so this one is not a breakthrough it's just a well built, well painted and well engineered action figure, but neither this nor the MP-44 should cost so much. It is extremely beautiful, I will agree, but this goes to show that beauty and presence (as important as they are) are not everything. I hope they learn from this experience and bounce back while at the same time not trying to be overly ambitious as it seems they have been with this endeavor. I'd spend $500 on this before I'd spend $200 on MP-44. Great review as always!
This figure is really good. I'm not really fond to Star Saber so it's not really difficult to avoid, but it does look great without question. I don't like how it looks in the pictures when combined with Victory Leo. It seems that it will be so heavy and over stuffed that it will be hard to manipulate and to pose (the articulation might be affected). I'm know this video is not about Victory Leo, it's just a random comment. I feel more tempted by Optimus and the outline sketch they showed about Rodimus looks good as well.
Oh no. Did the instructions mention about not pulling the head off? Pulling their head off might cause issues with the electronics on the eyes like their iron man figures released a while back.
Not into Flames Toys, they are well painted. If I were to get one, it would be this one. The presence, the Wings, and the Swords; i'm gravitated towards that.

Idk if I'm in on this guy, given that Mp44, Unicron (hopefully), Siege Omega, and for me personally Zeta Kronos all have come or are coming at once so to speak, but hot damn the aesthetics of this are amazing. I'm DEFINITELY in on their Optimus, even though I missed that beautiful exclusive axe. I'm hoping Bomber Megatron is next, cuz I'll be in on that too.
my flame toys are shattered glass Drift &.....(i got lucky) power burst Tarn a couple days ago. pre ordered Prime & waitin on Megatron.
Awesome review. This is Super Robot Chogokin on STERIODS! Sentinel aka Flame Toys is pricey but in comparison to Bandai's Metal Build is spot on as Flame Toys scales larger than 1 / 100. Surprisingly I like the standard mode here more than suped up version. Also would have liked comparison shot with Tarn.
Damn, these Flamestoys got me really wanting a non-transforming transformer. if they do a IDW Dai Atlas, i'm in. Beautiful piece and great review. the only thing that doesn't sit well is the exclusive bonus parts? idk much about the situation but was it a chore to find the special one?
I just got mine yesterday. On 4.45: the instructions say you leave on all pieces, a, b, c and d. You removed d, so that s why it doesn t sit flush.overall it s a nice piece, it feels more solid than both drift and tarn and the different looks are all looking great to me, and i don t even know the idw tf continuity
I handled this at TFNation back in August, I was really impressed with the build quality the paint, accessories. What seemed off to me though it didn’t seem to have the same presence as their Tarn, it seemed like a smaller figure, though it will combine so maybe that is the reason. I like yourself have no association with this character, when I spoke to Flame Toys at TFNation we spoke about the possibility of a Megatron Origins version and they seemed very interested in that so maybe there is something in that, and that would definitely be a figure I would be interested in. For now I am more than happy with Tarn. They had the limited edition Tarn at TFNation which had a more metallic finish, it looked good but wasn’t for me, it just didn’t seems to suit the character, still a great looking figure.
Great review. To my knowledge the bluehead lightup feature and the black gun are exclusives.
I have no attachment to either tarn or drift as i don t know idw comics 😅, but still they re worth the money for me, just becauae they re such beautifull pieces. This one and the optimus are no exceptions i think 🥰🤗

Flames toys look really good, but when you compare the price and value to a 3A premium scale figure, or the deluxe line for that matter, it doesn’t hold up for me. 🤷🏻♂️
It's a beautiful piece. And it's a Transformer, but it's not a transformer. And if it doesn't transform, then it might as well belong to some other toy line. Star Saber in particular looks extremely similar to some classic Gundam designs; I think I read somewhere that Star Saber was created by a Gundam designer.
Edit: Just for clarity, some Gundam series Mobile Suits do transform, but that's not the point being made here.
