    one does not simply control throttle with a keyboard...

      It's just a "game", people can play it with their penis if they want.

      @charlieward7606 7 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Airtrooper719 XBL you miss the point, you can it's unenjoyable that's why you don't even tho you can, hell you can punch yourself in the balls, the enjoyment you will have out of it is very questionable, plus replays look shit with all the wheel twitch Ahahah oh and it's not just a game it's a sim, slightly diferente

    I always follow the rule Jackie Stewart told James May in a TopGear episode trying to go faster with a TVR, only put your foot on the throttle if you know you dont have to take it off again. Of course you cant follow that to the exact, but it does help!

      It's trying to say to don't back off the gas. Apply it progressively always to the edge of slip-agnle. It's like having a traction control, but you are the TC, and like that you have the control now, not the computer.
      Who has the most control, shall be the fastest!

    About the last point You mentioned.
    TL;DR version:
    Slow in, fast out on corners with a long straight afterwards
    fast in, slow out on corners with another corner afterwards
    issue simplified.

      THANK YOU

    • @charlieward7606
      @charlieward7606 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      but it depends on which way the corner is afterwards, it youre coming out of the corner the wrong side of track for the next entry then you enter fast exit slow slow, but if its a corner where you come out on the same side you need to be for the next you can come out faster, both are right, i think he just adds to it

    Another tip would be not to move your wheel while breaking. No matter how good or bad it affects your cornering, it wears tires the most.

    • @pentilex4338

      DamianN Audio Unless you're trail braking

    • @robertvuitton
      @robertvuitton 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      What exactly do you mean? To not turn while breaking or... ? I'm new to steering wheels. Thanks.

    • @pentilex4338
      @pentilex4338 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Comrade Hatuey Don't wobble the wheel while braking, brake in a straight line. Some corners, however, allow you to brake later and slowly let off the brake as you turn the wheel, up to the apex. That would be trail braking.
      You want to normally reduce braking power as you slow so that your brakes don't lock on a corner that doesn't allow trail braking, regardless.

    • @robertvuitton
      @robertvuitton 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Glad to know.

    • @DamianNAudio
      @DamianNAudio 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Comrade Hatuey Yup that's correct. Simply - lock wheels OR turn, avoid combining both. It may give you few kph/mph more on corners but it also burns tires.

  • @mayaneko1094

    My way of learning a track:
    - take the first 1-2 Laps slow (primarily to see if there are crossing roads where you're not supposed to go and to see, where the long straights will end)
    - start to take the lap as fast as possible and try to avoid mistakes in upcoming laps. Doing many mistakes which cost you huge amounts of time will be your best teacher
    - After 30-60 Minutes there shouldn't be that much corners anymore, where you're too slow/fast, but it wouldn't look smooth either
    - now look up some world record/fast lap videos on this track (with the same car if needed)
    - don't try to memorize the whole lap, just pick 1-2 corners and try to perfect them, repeat this with the next corners if you feel confident enough
    - from there on it's all about beating your lap times.
    - but don't race competetive yet, you would just crash into everyon anyway. Play against AI (if possible) and learn to recognize, where you can safely overtake and where you can run wide to prevent crashing. Here you can also see, where drivers with racing lines will be in any corner. If you drive against real persons, there will propably be many drivers (depending on the game) who actually try to follow this line as much as possible while not being aware, where you are.

    No but seriously, the biggest issue I have that is shown with the video is the correcting the wheel too much. Sometimes, it looks like I'm having a seizure while driving. I guess I will keep that in mind.

    great video. i'm playing Gran Turismo on PS w controller. can't afford the wheel setup. but driving technique isn't about the interface (i've seen what true drivers can do with only the d-pad for example). it's about car control. and that starts with understanding. which is where i'm stuck right now. i've gotten very good in the past year or so, but i'm short a few key principles. and this helps. especially on brands hatch and silverstone, which are still new to me and challenging. i'll look for more of these now. thanks.

    tapping the throttle gently is useful for peeking at available rear grip if youre in low grip situations (street tires / rain)
    and lets you adjust accordingly.

    You should always keep steady throttle through corners. The second you start to lose grip let the throttle go for a bit and reapply when you have grip again. High exit speeds thru corners is the key to fast laps. Slow in, Fast out. And learn to read the signs on the side of the road for perfect braking every time. If there isn't distance markers, try finding something similar that's in the track.

    Hi, do you have any tips on controlling turbo lag. I find this an issue sometimes when trying to handle cars like the lotus 98t and Sauber C9.

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to know the RPM where the turbo kicks in. In this way you can anticipate the reaction of your engine and modulate the pressure on the throttle to avoid spins.

    Watch the Top Gear episode where May is tutored by Jackie Stuart on driving. He says on there to only get on the throttle once through a turn, or something along the lines of that. I see you still do that, and getting on the throttle only once through a turn helps with balance and will further smooth out your driving. I know it helped me a ton.

    Hey Viper, could you recommend me a set of controllers(wheels, pedals and preferably shifter too, but im not too picky on it). If you can, could u recommend me a really quality set, then another recommendation on a really cheap set, and a last recommendation on a bang for the buck set that probably lies somewhere in between. THANK YOU ! i know its a lot of ask. love you.

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The best solution to save money is to buy an used steering wheel.
      However, the G29 + H-shifter (about 60€/$ more) is a nice steering wheel. Maybe it's too expensive considering it's just a G27 with PS4 compatibility. The good alternative is the Thrustmaster T300, but the base model hasn't the clutch pedal. You have to buy the clutch version + H-shifter.
      For the set I can't help you: It was a gift from my parents. I'm inexperienced on that.

  • @robertvuitton
    @robertvuitton 7 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    I have always played with a controller and have won many times, but I've been thinking about getting a steering wheel and especially to learn how to play/race with manual since I never done it. What's a good quality and durable steering wheel for PS3/4? I know of G27, but that's only for PS3/PC and not for PS4. What do you recommend?

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      If you know the G27, the G29 is exactly the same wheel (with PS4 compatibility).
      The only change is the brake pedal (it's harder to push), but all the rest is unchanged.

    • @robertvuitton
      @robertvuitton 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the same then it is a good quality wheel, no? How long you have with yours? Thank you by the way.

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, it has less metal and more plastic than the G27, but despite that the quality is the same.Now it has 1 year old.
      I disassembled it 3 weeks ago to clean it because the dirt caused an intermittent contact with the throttle pedal. It works fine now.

      Eh, é una sfida abbastanza impegnativa in effetti. L'ho completata dopo 9 tentativi e qualche sportellata contro gli avversari.
      Ho disattivato il consumo gomme e pneumatici impostando 5 litri nel serbatoio. Poi, (ti suonerà strano) ho messo 1 di deportanza sull'anteriore e 0 sul posteriore aumentando un pochino la barra antirollio anteriore. Controllo trazione: 6. Gomme soft. Non ho toccato le sospensioni.
      Praticamente per vincere la sfida, dovresti fare 3 giri consecutivi in meno di 6.40.00. La mia strategia é stata quella di fare una super partenza scavalcando 2 auto alla prima curva. Resto dietro al gruppetto di testa durante il giro e poi li supero tranquillamente ad ogni giro, auto pêr auto, sul lungo rettilineo finale grazie alla bassa deportanza del mio setup. C'é uno scarto di 15 km/h alla velocità massima.
      Certo, la parte difficile é di restargli incollato per tutto il giro prima di arrivare al lungo rettilineo, ma se rispetti questa strategia, dovresti farcela.

    Hi,the person reading this,i have a question:
    I have a logitech F310 controller,but when i play these games,the steering doesn't register until i move the stick to half steer,and the second it registers,the car goes fully steers and i spin out. So can you help me solve this problem?

    • @swift7493
      @swift7493 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the controller doesn't steer like a PS3 controller on Gran Turismo, or like an Xbox controller on Forza. What i mean by that, it's basically thinking like: Oh, the stick is to the left/right, um.. i don't know what do do, let's act as if he was using a keyboard!

    what system would you recommend for racing games ? PS4, Xbox or PC ? What steering wheel ? Thanks!

    • @viperconcept
      @viperconcept  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It depends from your budget.
      - If you have no budget limits, a 900€/$ PC + Thrustmaster T500RS is a best choice.
      - If you have a good budget, a 600€/$ PC with a Logitech G29 / Thrustmaster T300 is the perfect choice.
      - If you have a limited budget, buy a console (Xbox/PS4) with Logitech G29 / Thrustmaster T300.
      - If you have a low budget, take a console (Xbox/PS4) with a Thrustmaster T150 (or an used wheel).
      Then, if you want exclusives like GT Sport/ Driveclub (PS) or Forza Horizon 3 (Xbox), you're obliged to stay on console, no matter your budget.

      Oh yeah I'm a big Gran Turismo fan. I love that game. But Assetto Corsa and SimRacing in general is so tempting for me recently. And it seem like PC got very good racing community. You can race with pro like You are and you can race with less skilled guys like myslef and your game will not be spoiled with some destruction derby players. Thanks for your videos. They are very informative and entertaining. I enjoy watching them. Keep up the good work

      viperconcept mistake here. Forza Horizon 3 isn't exclusive to the Xbox one. I actually have it on pc and played with a friend that has an Xbox one. This said, steering wheels should still be compatible

    But the only problem with most of the racing games is that the trottle only gives you the option of "FULL" & "NONE" so it simply ends up with an impossible mission attempting to do the trottle control

    I have a similar method for cornering but i try to if possible to never use the brakes. I let go of the throttle maybe brake a little bit wait for the perfect moment and then accelerate out of it. It seemed to work fine but it might just be my style of driving and intuition to know when to do things? I can't always do it if i don't properly focus.

    • @shinposting
      @shinposting 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My brother thought it was just skill learned from playing too much NFS but i could do a similar racing style in GT Legends too.

    • @bernardomelo2060
      @bernardomelo2060 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      you should use the brakes.
      you'll get faster times as you can slow down quicker and therefore let go of the throttle closer to the turn

    • @shinposting
      @shinposting 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bernardo Melo i've actually mastered a way to compensate that which i found was even faster. I do use the brakes when i find it neccesary or when i panic

    • @shinposting
      @shinposting 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh and also, there's this 'gap' i found in some games that occurs. It's how i can tell if i screwed up a corner. If there is no gap the car will always oversteer. It seems like there's some way of cornering that always causes the grip to reset as if you were turning slowly

    Question, what's that about the skill percentage? Even in Initial D they talk about it but how's that? Could you elaborate please?

    • @BitViper
      @BitViper 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's like saying you're not gonna try to be aggressive as you can. It's not like there's a way to actually gauge how much effort you're putting into something, it's just a form of expression. Just think of it like this, say a car has 500 HP, but if you use a peak of 80% throttle, you're not producing the maximum power the engine is capable of. So if you're limiting your skills to 90%, you're simply not driving as good as you can.

    • @cazadorcazado08
      @cazadorcazado08 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bit Viper Ah, I get it. Sorry it was a dumb question, hahah. Thank you!

    • @BitViper
      @BitViper 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Nah it wasn't a dumb question. Personally I don't really like the whole "Run this lap at 80%" kind of expressions. It just makes things seem more complex than they really are, like you could've just said "Run this lap casually" or something. But no worries, just glad I could clear that up for you.

  • @lucatarolli7950
    @lucatarolli7950 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    First of all congratulations for the nice video and the clearness of the concepts. However i use different approaches while learning the track and driving. Firstly i strongly believe in trial and error method while learning a track because only knowing it by heart you will be able to give the 100%. Moreover, since I don't have to pay for damages, I'm not afraid to go over the limit, which sometimes is much more constructing. Secondly I think you didn't drive at your best during the comparison between the two kind of stile, because the clean one is much more faster, and the difference would be bigger. I find correct to have a 90% pace during longer races, however most of the times there are less than 10 laps races (even your own championship has that format), so looking after the tyres isn't worth. Personally I use an aggressive style, then I polish it in order to be clean. This is my method to drive as fast as i can. I find prominent to give the 100% in race in order to face who is faster than me. I'm usually faster than the 95% of the drivers i find on public servers (pc version), but when i race against one of the other 5% (one of those aliens that, after i spent 2 hours lowering my laptimes by 2 seconds, join the server and in 10 minutes is 1 second faster than me), I want to be ready to do the perfect race and if not challenge him, at least follow him and try to learn something new and improve myself.

    If you go up to the dog slowly, get a feel for its temperament it will be more relaxed with you.
