    The EF mount was introduced in 1987. It's 36 years old !! The reason Canon changed the mount going to RF 5 years ago, is because the communications interface was not fast enough anymore and they were running out of bandwidth. RF has so far allowed to add yaw and pitch information between lens IS and camera IS. Additionally focus breathing correction has now been added to RF lenses. Again, this was not possible on EF because of limited bandwidth on the 36 year old communications system original designed for 35mm film stills cameras.

    I have both systems and they both are great in there own ways. I have 2 A7SIII and a Canon R5. I absolutely love the image of both but think the R5 looks more like cinema. I do love the dynamic range on the A7SIII and am hoping the R5II will be as good with 14 stops. The IBIS on the R5 and photography is unbelievable. This is why I reach for the R5 when I leave the house over the A7SIII.

    CLog2 is considerably better than CLog3. But you have to step up to the C70 at that point. But my goodness the C70 is insanely good. I still think Sony’s skin tones are bit too orange saturated. Personally I think Canon’s skin tones look more natural and that was a big deal to me.

      - Dynamic range is not better on the fx3. When you shoot raw on the r5c (fx3 a cinema cam without raw internally??), you can have same DR as the fx3 + more flexibility in post (thanks the Raw)…
      - Color, it’s subjective but Raw format is more flexible on the r5c
      - Ibis? Depends on your needs
      - Yes you can win 40-50g with the fx3…

    EF lenses adapted to RF work pretty much 99.9% the same as native mirrorless. I'm using all adapted lenses and they are super quick, super sharp. In fact my Sigma Art 50 1.4 is about 2x faster than the RF 50 1.2 (and just as sharp).

    Yep I'm also on both systems. Sony for agency/production house work and Canon for freelance. Sony (A7S3/FX3/FX6) has better DR and low-light but Canon has 6K/8K/RAW and better color science. Lens wise, its kind of a toss up as Canon has RF+EF whereas Sony has a wider native E-mount selection. I love the Zeiss glass but also the RF/EF L glass. Ergonomics is a clear win for Canon imo. I'm really thinking of getting an R5C for the cine features and better IQ but I'm afraid of losing IBIS as I shoot handheld a lot.

    i know this is an old video at this point, but giving the handling to the r5c over the fx3 because its easier to run around with and not need a monitor is kind of crazy to me. you get less than 30-45 minutes on a battery with the r5c, but can get close to 2-3 on one battery with the fx3. i swapped to the fx3 this year because i just couldnt deal with the hassle of the poor battery life with the r5c. overall i definitely preferred the r5c but yah the battery issue was tough for me. for a travel camera as well the fx3 can be muuuuch more compact.

    love the look of your video. your LUTs look great in both systems. in my opinion, how much time and effort it takes to edit the look of the video matters and I find I can get the look I want faster with the Canon. I can tell Canon footage from Sony unless it's ultrastylized. I don't understand videos where people make videos to prove that you can make images from 2 camera systems look the same because, of course, you can take the effort to make them look the same but that's not real life. In real life, you have a desired look you want and then you edit to make that look happen. I think with the Sony cameras, they tend to be more greenish and as a result, as TH-camrs have proliferated, videos tend to look more green these days so that's kind of been normalized. It's not hard to change it but everything you do adds to your work. But back to the video, I'm seriously tempted by the R5C but I'm kind of waiting for the R5 Mark II to see what that's like. Between the R5C and the C70, I prefer the C70 in terms of form factor, because it has Canon Log 2, and because it has the built-in ND filters which is such a convenient time saver. The dynamic range is also insane on the C70. But I love how crispy the R5 and R5C video is (and of course you can dial back that sharpness in-camera or in video) whereas the C70 will never look as sharp (digital sharpening still looks digital no matter the video editor). The supersampling of the 8K down to 4K is fantastic. But filming in 8k60 12-bit raw on the R5C is amazing and finally workable.

    If the native lens selection was a bit different I would switch to Canon in a heartbeat.
    The RF lenses are simply too big. Until now, Canon RF has no other chance against Sony (other manufacturers and especially 2470GMII)
    how does your PC handle the RAW files?
    With Premiere Pro (Win 11) I have no chance to play Canon's RAW videos properly at all, except as a proxy.
    That would be an interim solution, but it takes a lot of effort and storage space.

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual

      Battery life is no issue with the R5 C. Ever. Use a suitable battery bank or one of the Smallrig or FXlion compact V-mount battery packs on a belt clip, USB-C cable to the camera and stop worrying about it. You need the 9V 3A anyhow, if you want to use 8k60 or for certain other accessory combinations. The internal battery is for stills and short clips. That is all, it was intended for.

    • @filmedbylouis

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@filmedbylouis It's a matter of expectations. For video, the R5 C always was meant to be externally powered, if you do long form content. It uses a lot of power. But ... we're supposed to get 30% more with the summer firmware update.

    • @filmedbylouis
      @filmedbylouis  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmeraldAudiovisualYea, but if you compare it to the FX3, which is also made for Long form Content, you can expect at least half a day of Shooting with the internal Batteries. Whereas, Canons last for literally 5 minutes. Working with Gimbals etc. is just easier with internal Batteries. So it is a pain point in my opinion

    • @EmeraldAudiovisual
      @EmeraldAudiovisual ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@filmedbylouis you get more than 5 minutes :) ... and comparing the FX3 with the R5 C ... not really in the same league. FX3: no internal RAW, no DCI, not even the resolutions or codecs, the R5 C can handle, not even half the video tools, like waveform etc. No 30fps in h265. I believe no shutter angle. And until recently not even timecode, but they fixed that with that external dongle. I could go on :p Oh, and you know, that you can mount a vmount pack under the carrier plate, right ? I actually did put a build video toghether on that. The V-mount pack under the carrier plate helps with counter balance, so makes it even easier to balance the gimbal.

    Cinema is a whole bunch of staff more than the main camera gear and we still use this word just a camera body that we own.
    Most of the industry is trying to imitate "cinema" by saying the soft image and the crappy oldie image of the film.. WHY THE HECK do we still try to imitate this?
    Soft image is nice but i really enjoy the full sharpness of sony and other cameras even in hollywood. So many movies where shot with very sharp cameras and THEY ARE CI NE MA!
    For me Sony always win overall. Even if i see an image in another camera i will never betray my 12800 iso which in most of the cases saves the day.
    Because guys...we are not cinema, we are videographers and mostly we do run n gun scenarios...
    I will be honest and say that i find r5c better than my fx3 but still in most of the real world scenarios i prefer my fx3! Also the industry is full of sony and when people reach out to find a videographer they prefer to be someone with sony to match their gear!
