#Sony #FX3 #CanonC70
8:39 Gyro data looks smoother but the jittery artifacts of the window pane in the background are distracting. I prefer Canon's stabilization in this situation. (FX3 Owner)
Gyro stabilization will have artifacts if the shutter speed isn't fast enough. Armando was probably filming in the 180 degree shutter rule.
He should have turned off in body IBIS and used a higher shutter speed to gyro stabilization to properly work, then it doesn't have those jitters.
Just add weight to fx3. It might be batteries
I'm for the C70. They had me with nd filters and custom luts.
Personally the FX6 is a no-brainer here. NDs and LUTs are on a next level there with not that much more money than the C70.
@@lukastemberger 7 stops of NDs are not enough for pretty much anything, you cannot use even f2.8 lenses in daylight settings, let alone primes so you still need to use external NDs. C70 has 10 stops which is enough for even f1.0 lenses on a brightest summer day, it has scratch audio without the handle, much faster startup time, better battery life, native RF/EF support, much better ergonomics and way better color science, it's the closest thing to the ARRI color you can get. Sony knows that, and that's why you get the full frame sensor in it for the similar money. The problem is, you can easily turn C70 into a full frame if you need it.
@@vladimirtalijan @Vladimir Talijan It's totally fine being a Canon fanboy, I just have to reply in case someone takes your post seriously. You've obviously never used the FX6... I have the FX6 and a friend has the C70.
FX6 has scratch audio without the handle. It starts up in a second. It has a cinematic CineEI exposure system and color science that has surpassed Canon (you must be talking about several year old Sony mirrorless cameras... Ergonomics are on a completely next level compared to C70, which is basically a weird looking bulky dslr.
I could be listing things that make it a more complete camera compared to C70, but I just wanted to say your data is false.
@@vladimirtalijan let’s not even compare the electronic nd (where nd can be changed mid shot based to keep exposure consistent and decimal adjustments) to regular nd. Night and day in terms of application. Not even in the same ballpark. And c70 8-10 stops is just layering lower stop nds leading to quite a bit of color and sharpness loss. At that point you’re better off using external nd if you’re serious about the image.
@@BalaKrishna-bq5iz That’s just not true. My combined 10 Stops of ND are just as good as every step in between. 👎Fake news
Great video! Personally a Sony guy and in love with my FX3. I converted to Sony with the FS7 and have loved it’s performance in lowlight and skin tones ever since.
Those Sony cameras have started to look quite tasty lately.
Great video Armando! Had a blast shooting with you as always. Both of these cameras offer great options for different types of shooters. Let’s link up again soon for another video! 🙌
Dude, the stabilisation test wasnt great, if you mount one camera on top of the other, the camera you're not holding is going to have amplified shaking from the camera you are holding...
If anything then the Sony should have been mounted on top. But I guess mounting them side by side would have been better.
@@elephantgrass631 the sony is on top
@@angyuexiangaaron Well then it shows just how good the Sony is at stabilization.
You're not wrong, but the outcome of the results would be the same.
And still the sony won
Like I was saying on Griffin's video I still prefer the image from the C70 I think but solid performance from the FX3 especially for the price and size.
I would definitely pick the C70 for documentary / commercial work and the FX for personal and travel.
Same.
What about FX6 vs C70 for documentary work?
@@heraldocreative4735 I'm guessing he'd probably still go C70 just because the FX6 image quality is so similar to the FX3. Nearly identical
Dumped my Sony A7S III for the C-70. It's all about the image. The Sony is more harsh and I struggled to make the color and the image look more buttery in post. Are Sony colors still an issue? Yes.
Understandable, but nope, they aren't. Seriously, the Phantum LUTs bring it into Arri territory. Check them out.
Sony FX3 Cinema Line. Absolutely brilliant camera.
Want to provide and update to my c70 experience now after I sold my a7s3. It’s no comparison. The c70 is a true cinema camera. The fx3 is a rebadged a7s3.
hello Armando I bought a fx3 that week I am very happy and I put the Canon C 70 up for sale with a great review
Team C70. Built in ND Filters and the ability to be full frame or s35 is attractive to me. Also, I don't have to have the handle attached to get my XLR inputs. Oh yea, almost forgot about the longer battery life, 13 programmable buttons, and the timecode...I think that about sums it up...Great video tho Armando! Keep killing it brother!
If only Sony makes a comparable cinema body named FX6 with Programmable buttons, timecode, XLR...ND....better yet, electronic ND, full frame sensor, HDMI and SDI out, external RAW recording etc. in same price class as C70. Too bad Armando has to compare with a mirror less body. Hurry up SONY, announce that FX6 already.
@@BalaKrishna-bq5iz yea but then you are paying 500 more for the fx6 than the c70 with the same sensor as the fx3? not really enticing for someone on the fence.
I'm team C70 and love mine, but I do appreciate the great job you both did on your videos! Both are amazing cameras that just blow away anything we would have used say 10 years ago!
Now I gotta leave a like for this guy because I left my baseplate at home lol?
Looking for this too. So random and unrelated 😂
Is there any benefit to using the Atomos on the C70?
Does fx3 come up with black balance option? And what is your advice will it be a Netflix approve camera in future?
Great video...I;ve had my eye on both of these cameras
Can’t go wrong with either one
@@mondobytes Right
I want to add one more thing about the stabilization test. Since the Sony was on top and your grip was on the bottom camera , all your pivot movements were on that Canon camera, so the Sony gets the bigger shakes.
From price/size points of view, C70 should be compared with FX6.
The fact that the FX3 can go heads up with the C70 shows the value of this camera.
@@mondobytes True. FX3 is good enough to beat C70 and I would spend the difference 2K on lenses/Ninja. FX6 is definitely overkill for C70.
I agree with you Dan. And like what Armando said, the FX3 can go heads up with the C70 shows Canon is really lacking behind its entry level cinema line, just for the reason of protecting their existing higher end camera. Wouldn’t it be great if the C70 was native full frame to begin with? 😆
C70 for me. Dont need autofocus since I manually focus and the built in NDs is a big win for me
uhhh...how about FX6 with vastly superior electronic nd system in the same price class? Congratulations, you fell for Armando’s deception. FX3 isn’t the comparable for C70
@@BalaKrishna-bq5iz lol why are you attacking everyone that chooses the c70. also, the c70 is still superior to the fx6 because the fx6 has same sensor as the fx3, and the c70 has the dgo sensor.
@@Miguel_Molina Man, you're funny. The purpose of dgo sensor is to eek out more Dynamic Range even though it costs rolling shutter performance. FX6/FX3 sensor without dgo gets you the same DR with virtually no rolling shutter. So, all dgo is doing here is bail out a bad sensor. Go check the tests from cined. I've used C70 and despite considering it at one point I'm glad I didn't buy one for myself. That would've look even more foolish now with the amount of options we've on market at that price. Also, for some reason AF on it is very unreliable unlike other Canon cameras. I'll bet it has something to do with reading the sensor twice.
@@BalaKrishna-bq5iz lmfao you do know the sensor in the c70 is the same sensor in the c300 mkiii, an $11k camera. and you just called it a bad sensor. the sensor in the fx6 is the same sensor in the fx3. Dude do yourself a favor and get a camera that the industry is using, not youtube stars hoping to shoot their next coffee bean product shot.
@@Miguel_Molina Lol. Just coz a sensor was used in a slightly higher priced option doesn't nake the sensor better. C300 mkiii was priced such not for its sensor but for other features that fit in a more pro workflow. If it does, C70 wouldn't cost half as much or a7siii wouldn't cost half as much as FX6. So, you played yourself with that c300 reference.
Don't give me this "industry" pep talk, just tell me how it is supposedly better? Purely "Sensor" characteristics comes mostly down to Dynamic Range, ISO performance, Rolling Shutter. All of which are proven slightly to quite a bit worse than the FX3/FX6 sensor. I've used it and its DR barely match FX3/FX6 but only if dgo is turned on so that it reads the sensor twice for highlights and shadows. The result: an unacceptable rolling shutter four this day and age at that price. If you go 60p or more, rolling shutter improves but dynamic range is same or slightly worse than Fuji XT3... because dgo no longer works.
I'd gladly take dgo sensor if it provides a significant DR advantage (which is why I even rented it in the first place) which c70 doesn't. So, what's the point? And on top of having no benefits over competition or even its own mirrorless, its not even a full frame at least.
You probably don't even know what you're talking about. Don't fanboy over me. I own and work with gear on 4 different systems, including Canon. But we've to be objective about how we spend our 💰
Thanks for the great review 🙌🏽
Thanks for stopping by 👊🏽
I think Sony ultimately made the slightly better cameras in the past year, as a guy who is somewhat invested in Canon, I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth it to switch.
Nah. Not worth it, sony is overhyped atm. I own the a7siii, fuji xt3 and canon c100 mkii
This doesn’t quite pertain to you and it kind of does. I started with the GH5, I saved and dumped a bunch of money on an A7R4… I’m back on my GH5. The Sony was nice, the photos were of amazing quality BUT I didn’t feel as though I was really getting much better results to justify the price, I sold my A7R4 and I’m sitting on the money. From a photography standpoint, yeah the bokeh is nice on the full frame and the Sony autofocus is amazing BUT I figured out how to make my GH5 work for me. So what was I really getting in the switch, bigger files, the lack of a fully articulating screen, the loss of a proper touch screen. I know the A7S3 has the new menus and fully articulating screen. The point I’m making is I switched and realized that I’m doing the same work I’ve done, and realized the work I was doing on the A7R4 I was able to do with my GH5. I don’t think I’d look to upgrade again until my gear no longer meets my needs. It was an expensive dipping of my toes into a new system. I’m photography mostly, so things might be a little different for video people, but I think if your gear works well for you, small things that you have gotten used to on your current gear just aren’t worth the change to a whole new system. I could understand it if you were currently a canon DSLR user and were considering going mirrorless, I can attest going from DSLR to mirrorless was definitely worth the upgrade to be able to see the photos in a dark viewfinder after you take them to check the exposure without any background light and to properly preview the image. Also the ability to have that enlarged view if you switch to manual focus for macro shots and stuff really helps, getting manual focus on a DSLR was a bit of a tricky situation. So I can see BIG upgrades but little things, nah just not worth it in my opinion. I hope that makes sense.
@@alexsystems2001 Great points. I have a GH5 and a Canon C100 mk II. Both great cameras. The Canon is my workhorse video camera. I might change out the GH5 to another Canon like the R6 to match colors easier; but, my workflow with the Canon is super comfortable for me now. Thanks.
@@MrOmniscience absolutely! hopefully I didn’t discourage you entirely, get what you want obviously, I just know it’s a LOT of money to switch for little things and if your reasonably happy with what you have, will $15,000 or more push you from that reasonably happy to totally happy lol and is that tiny amount worth that much? Best wishes to you and your endeavors whatever your decision is! As for canon gear I keep hearing of a rumored R5C, if you are looking to replace the GH5, what’s 6 months in the big picture of things? I think if the R5C is the R5 but with active cooling it’ll be a home run for everyone!
Same. But it’s so hard to switch once you’re in the eco-system. Unless of course you could afford both 😆 It’s a shame really that Canon is just relying on loyalty to retain its users…
I'm team Sony. However, I believe is not about the brand, we got some needs as creators, that brands should be taking notes of that to allow us to keep delivering better works. In this case looks that Sony is ticking most of the boxes as is listening to creators to deliver cameras that we need and want.Saludos desde Londres!!!!
Can confirm about the screens.
If I'm not mistaken, the C70 has Canon's Wide DR, which as I understand it, is pretty similar in concept to Sony's S-Cinetone.
I don't know if that stabilization test makes sense with the cameras on top of each other like that. It adds weight and messes with the balance which means you have to grip it tighter which can add a lot of movement. Why did you choose to do that vs testing each one separately? The catalyst software is crazy good though.
I believe the FX3 does have timecode, it just doesn't have timecode out.
Both are great, depends on what you need as a filmmaker.
Hey Armando, what are your thoughts on the C70 now that it offers internal RAW? Has your opinion changed on the camera?
The problem with the stab in Catalyst is your motion blur : it doesn't look natural at all. Yes, it can save a shot if it's something critical BUT it is still mostly ugly IF you don't take the shutter speed into account. (and then at some point it may look odd too if you shoot with too high a shutter speed)
Armaaandoooo! The C80 just got announced! I think they're tryna make the C400/C80 combo be like the FX6/FX3 A-B combo! I was dead set on the FX3 but this is making me think twice! 😁
Great Video, been looking this comparison video! Now, I know what I have to choose! Thanks!
So one thing I was wondering, the built in electronic stabilization gives you a proper UHD footage from the camera but the gyro data gives you a cropped footage that is less than UHD after processing in post, correct? The problem is whether the electronic ones are doing upscaling after the crop or they are still using the raw data to do the stabilization and spit out a pixel binned or down sampled footage?
Auto ND on the FX6 was the selling point for me over the FX3 and the C70. As always, excellent video Armando! :)
What's the latitude looking like on the FX3? It seemed overexposed on the stabilization test.
I love when you mounted the two cameras together to test. Your videos are great. I've see you on some MAXON webinars too, but now am a subscriber. Thanks!
Can we get an update on this now that there have been so many updates to the C70? The C70 is now doing 12Bit Raw. Im Curious about the differences.
Personally I’d still prefer an FX3 still using mine 2 years later and for big projects I got myself a Komodo X best of both worlds
Very nice review! The canon skin tone still looks better to my eyes. What do you guys think?
Absolutely
Depends on the lighting. Sometimes
You and Griffin always put out quality info. Industry experience is always better than "filming the cat camera reviews". Thanks Armando.
Hi Armando you said is boring to comparison the cameras but I have to congrats buddy you did a great video. I have the Sony FX3 like you and I have to tell to everyone I been working with a canon 90D, C100, C300, Sony A7RII,RIII, FujiX and now with the FX3 I have almost the all options to another cameras. Armando forgot to mentioned many options like the gamma assist in FX3 is so great to see how is going on with your footage, for me the Slog3 is the best PP in low lights conditions when you up 12,800 f4.5 or f9.0 onwards or more you don’t see any noise in the dark because the dual iso of the FX3 is awesome. Anyway guys you have the taste to choose if you like canon or sony, for me sony 4ever. Armando keeping doing your greta job, you are a master Jedi. Saludos bro. 🥂
Damn, you got me in the first 5 seconds of the video. Have your like.
Buenas Armando, ¿tienes página web?, muchas gracias.
my GH5-S DCI 4k internal, Shutter angle, 12bit raw out. I am buying one of these two next but feel I'm compromising my life trying to keep up appearances. The things I do like, built-in ND and the soft image of an 8Mp sensor + DGO dynamic range.
Are you seriously reading my mind, Armando?? Thanks so much for this!!
I got say, the c70's monitor is the only thing I hate about this camera.
everything else is great and I do prefer canon' s footage which I always got
good result, the sony' s color is bit unique and needs more adjust especially the
skin tone.
In the side-by-side comparison of stabilization - the FX3 has a distortion/warping occuring on the vertical window pane lines. Do you know if that is a result of the stabilization in post, or the autofocus going in and out?
Great video! I allways used Canon for photography but Sony for video. I needed the master of low light, so I got the FX3. There were some more reasons for going with Sony. The one thing I realy miss though is internal ND.
What do you use for photography?
@@nicholasolivas317 I always used the Canon 5D IV. But last year I got the Sony A7 IV. I purchased a lot of good glas for my FX3. Wanted to use it for pictures as well. Since then I almost always take the Sony for photography. Better autofocus, more modern glas, flipscreen, easy control via an iPad ... But in some areas the A7 IV is lacking a bit of performance. So actually the Canon R5 would be the better fit - as far as body goes. But RF lenses are so fucking expensive.
There’s no link to Griffin’s video…
You can use gyro stabilization with ibis turn on? I thought it only works with ibis turned off.
@@zack.fitness Thanks. interesting active mode would work.
That lighting though! 💯👍🏻
I would pick the c70 because of the bulit in nd:s and me already being a canon shooter!
If you’re invested in Canon glass , then yes but FX6 in same price class as C70 offers much superior electronic ND. FX3 isn’t even a relevant comparison but that is Armando for you. If you’re a manual focus only type user, you can still use EF glass on FX6 and Sigma’s EF lens work with autofocus as well.
@@BalaKrishna-bq5iz C70 shoots 12 bit raw internally though.
Camera comparisons are boring…..
Proceeds by comparing the FX3 and C70 😂
Great video btw
Good job both of you!
If you look closely the Sony has terrible warping artifact's in the background after catalyst browse, its kind of a directional blur where the canon looks a lot more organic.
Yeah I noticed too. You can also see some strange stuff in the actors face and head.
its due to camera mounting and also the shutter angle
Just increase shutter speed to 1/200 on the FX3 and you're good to go. You can always recover a bit of motion blur in post for a specific time that you had to use catalyst. EIS on c70 will also benefit when shutter speed is higher.
@@DP_Daro I agree bro but this entire video is shady af 🤣🤣🤣, you're supposed to use catalyst browse with IBiS turned off whilst he is comparing how both ibis 's look and how it looks after catalyst browse, I've seen much better results from other videos
Great review!
I do not own a Sony camera, and have several Canon Cameras. The Canon R5 stands up as one of my favorite cameras that just let's me film the way I want to. That being said, between the FX3 and the C70, I'd lean towards the FX3. It just has more of what I'd want, and works great. Both are excellent cameras though.
The video from the r5 is gorgeous. I do the 4k cropped mode which is still supersampled but will never overheat. I also love the 4k120 too
@@onlysublime It's a great camera.
Great video! I'm always learning and I always come here to do so. Out of curiosity, when would a RAW workflow be "needed" besides a client saying so? Are there situations where you say, "nope, RAW only. That's the only way to solve this problem". Thanks for the great info!
In my opinion, a RAW workflow works best when you know that you’ll want to colour grade your footage after the fact and where you want to get the maximum amount of information out of the sensor
@@ConorORegan Fair enough. I've heard that shooting in, say ProRes422 HQ using your camera's log profile would give similar (but not identical) results color wise, therefore making RAW a less attractive option due to HD space, data rates etc. I've never shot in RAW as my camera doesn't output that.
@@elephantgrass631 my canon 700d doesn’t have a RAW output either so I don’t have the option to shoot RAW however LOG profiles definitely gives you 90% of what RAW gives you
@@ConorORegan Ah good to know. Thanks for your informative and quick replies homie.
RAW is also great for HDR workflow.
The FX3 is the camera for me (and the FX9) but I do wish the FX3 had built in NDs. I don't always want to take my FX9.
What about the internal ND?
What's that top handle with the record button built in?
Nice vid guys, redo the video now that c70 now has raw recording internally.
The two cameras are very similar in specs and it comes down to what lens you have, for me I think the FX6 is the best in the budget cine segment
Agreed
I run a camera channel called "Power of Drew" and I've owned all these camera's. However, I ended up selling the X-t4, Gh5s, and E-M1x and bought a c70. Which left me with the Canon and the A7s3. However, I quickly noticed issues with the image and colors on the a7s3 versus the c70.... bottom line. I hated them. So, in a twist I actually sold the a7s3 for more than I got it for new and bought a Canon R5 refurbished from Canon themselves.... and blam. Beautiful. What people WONT tell you about the sony is the sony look. I.E. digital. Oversharpend, even at -7 sharpening, and the colors. It was the best decision ever. I think Canon has a better camera here with the R5. You just get a more filmic look. Now, I know people will say, "but the overheating bro," And I must say I NEVER expereinced any overheating yet. I shoot in the 4k upscaled from 8k in CLOG3 at 24fps. However, I also have the c70 to lean on when I need it. And, I also own an Atomots... which they just updated this week so you get 5k from the 4k. Its beautiful.
on top of that, I am in line to get an R3, which I think is a true a7s3 killer. Then agai, its 2500 more. However, you are getting more camera.
As to the micro HDMI port on the R5. I dont have ANY issues with it if you use the HDMI port protector that comes with the camera. Actually with the port protector I find it more secure than the standard HDMI
Your frame look like i am watching some movie sence 😀🔥🔥
I was all set to pull trigger on FX6, but lack of XLRs when handle removed, no 3.5mm input, and more costly media cards sent me looking elsewhere, so I went for the C70 today I’m looking forward to it as I’m coming from Z Cam I’m sure the canon autofocus isn’t that bad if you just get exposure right 100% of time 🤔
Well the fx6 is more a cinema camera than fx3 or the c70 most of the time the type of filming you would do with the fx6 or fx9 you record audio externally on something like the h4zoom or something like that with a boom mic
The link to the follow up video is not in the description as you mentioned. Amazing BTW
4:46 maybe at the time of this video it was not possible to do so in the fx3, but now you can. you should mention changes over time at least in the description or pinned comments
Great video I will get the canon t5i
Absolutely have forgotten the base plate for a tripod. 😂 As a Canon 1D X Mark II user with multiple EF L lenses, it's tough to switch like Griffin said. That form factor and the ability to take stills on the FX3 though is super compelling. Does the FX3 take RAW stills? VERY curious about AF performance when mounting EF lenses on the FX 3 or a7SIII with an adapter.
Yes it does take RAW photos (has all the same photo features as the A7siii). AF with adapted EF lenses is excellent. Not ‘quite’ as good as native, but I run my EF Sigma 35 ART as my main lens on my FX3 and it’s never missed my eye when focusing.
C70 all day.
Armando again great video! --> I'm Team whatever helps me get the specific job done lol. I own both and both have a specific jobs at least for me. FX3 is my go to for almost everything like you said before and I said in one of your videos "I just find myself picking this camera all the time because is an absolute joy to shoot with it.. it's really hard to explain" But my C70 has a special place in the corporate environment as well... We all know that in the corporate world is really more about how the camera "looks like" than the features lol so in an environment where I have control of the lighting and the camera is just sitting in a tripod for a talking head shot then C70 is my go to but literary everything else (Weddings, Music Videos, B-Roll) Sony FX3 -- now this brings me to this question Armando is your FX3 overheating with the bottom battery because is covering the exhaust vent in the bottom? I was having that issue a lot so I stopped using it, it made me sad because I really like that combination.
Haven't forgotten a baseplate before... but I'm still going to click like so the bad juju doesn't get me.
There are different Sony Catalyst programs which one did you use to stabilize the FX3 video?
There’s only one made by Sony
Got the C70 and I'm very happy with it. Image Quality and the ND's are so nice ;-)
Does the lcd screen feel weak or have problems?
@@burritobrosvideos8060 No it's fine. Still no Problem with it. I did some Weddings and it went good ;-)
I waiting for a long time for this kind of video
FX3 is kicking butt on this one ;)
need an updated video now that both cameras have been updated.
❤️🔥 amazing Cameras
FX3 & FX6 all day!
Omg l had a real estate shoot and winged it with the tripod, it worked tho :)
The FX3 is cheaper, smaller, full frame, has IBIS, and superior autofocus and low light. The C70 has internal NDs which is huge but the FX3 is better overall. Also shutter angle is coming to the FX3 later this year.
agreed!
what are those white bar lights? anyone have a brand/model? thanks in advance!
in the next armando video:
- Have you ever eat an icecream? If so hit that like button!
0:40 *Is that Streetfighter?*
both solid cameras! that fx3 is special.. Really want one for travel, and a FX6 for work
I've been thinking of selling my c70 and getting that exact set up
c70 or fx6 ,which is better in low light please??
FX6 hands down and it’s not even close. The FX6 uses the same sensor as the A7SIII and FX3 which have dual gain ISO and the second base starts at 12,800!
The FX3 really is a direct competitor to the R5. However, what your review shown here is that even the C70 is lacking a lot of the image quality features to the FX3, which shouldn’t have been the case. I think Canon’s got to start planning about the MkII or else no new creators are gonna get their hands on a Canon cinema camera soon
No way, the R5 is on a whole different level. The A1 is a much closer competitor to the R5.
@@mondobytes thanks for the reply and sorry that I wasn’t completely clear in my first comment. What I meant is just speaking from the video specs point of view and price. They are both roughly around the same price last time I checked and the A1 is far more expensive. While of course the R5 shoots 8K, everything else from both no ND filters, having Raw capability, full frame, body design… It is much similar. But anyways, what I got out from your video is that although the FX3 is part of Sony’s cinema line, it operates more like a mirrorless camera. However it’s video capabilities and image quality really out shines even the Canon C70, which works more like a cinema camera, but it’s S35, more expensive and worse built quality… that’s why I mentioned Canon really needs to put out an entry cinema camera that doesn’t get stripped back to just protect their existing higher-end cameras like the C300/C500, or else starters are gonna just buy into Sony’s eco system because they offer better video specs at a lower price.
@@mondobytes the a1 is much better than the r5
C70 internal RAW now, so it’s the winner
NO
@@mondobytes why?
@@michaeldstern Because RAW is often impractical and the FX3 can do it externally which isn't that big of a deal if you absolutely have to shoot RAW. The FX3 is cheaper, smaller, full frame, has IBIS, and superior autofocus and low light.
That poor build screen in C70 is really disappointing. The lack of ND filters in FX3 too... Great cameras, but for half of the price I go for BMPCC 6K PRO - without continous autofocus but RAW internally, ND filters and a big and well build screen. (Nice video!)
And it’s cheaper too!
I first have to say this isn't a fair comparison as the price points are completely off. Not to knock the work put into the video, its still a great video to watch, just not apples to apples. A proper comparison would be the FX6 vs C70. That is what I was comparing before settling on the C70.
One thing to consider with both these cameras is your workflow. I opted Canon c70 as I felt having phantom powered XLR with auto leveling, built in ND Filters, and the stabilization in camera. Shooting 100 weddings a year, the more I can have done in camera the better. Just consider all of your factors.
The other main point to consider is updates via firmware, today Canon just dropped eye AF as well as full tap to track, face and eye for 4k 120fps. The camera also shoots RAW internal thanks to update 1.3 so it's really a killer all around option.
i said it once and ill forever say it. Once you go internal ND's, you never go back. And if you do go back, you secretly hate yourself and your family
Edit: I was wrong. People go back all the time and love their family.
C70 comes almost at the price of RED Comodo!! yet doesnt even offer external RAW recording... after the release of V3 update for FX3 its a clear and more affordable winner!
The c70 does RAW internally.
I think I would have preferred if this was a comparison between the C70 and the FX6 I think they match up better in features and price points
This video makes me wanna buy the fx6
Canon all the way. These are 2 totally different cameras for different work. The canon is for videographers that have work to do. The Sony for filmmakers and artsy stuff. Don’t care for Sony colors and the weird menus. I love your channel by the way. Super pro! Forgot my base plate on my first celebrity interview in 2011. I gaffed it to the tripod. Never forgot after that.
Professionals don't care about menus
@@burritobrosvideos8060 some do.
@@basementapefilms not any I met. They go through it once and map everything to the outside of the camera

i think autofocus, build quality, no SDI and no raw are where canon decides to cut corners with this camera. They have to make the camera a bit weaker in some areas to meet that relatively low price point for the camera. But i wonder if the auto focus capability of the c70 is the same as the c300 mkiii, since they both share the same sensor and processor.
I thought a firmware upgrade made the c70 autofocus more like an R5. I guess not.
Potato Jet waiting at home for his call.
Something that would sell me on the FX3 over the C70 is it’s compact nature
This is a great point and cannot be overlooked.
Fx3 is small and light but c70 is just ready to go out of the box. Tough choice indeed.
Both great cameras but I've listed after getting the C70.
man.....I need that gyro data stabilization in a Sony APSC......
Gyro data is in the ZV-E10.

Personally, it's been a tug of war for me between choosing the FX3 or C70. But, ultimately, I chose the FX3 because of the AF, the size allowing for quick shots, and the full sized XLR's. Together they make for an excellent pro package when shooting run and gun, but, without sacrificing any quality. That being said, the internal ND's of the C70 made it a tough choice. But, the somewhat flimsy flipout screen and the occasionally unresponsiveness of the C70's AF settled the score. That being said, I'd be happy with either camera.
P.S. Normally, I am not a fan of "comparison" videos especially when the prices are different between the products. But, you did an excellent job of comparing these two cameras without showing undue favoritism or being overly critical, and highlighting the best features of both. Great job, Armando. Glad I subbed.
