    Volkswagen Polo 2010 Fifth generation (6R/6C/61; 2009-2016)
Handbrake travel fixed in minute, easy procedure to follow. All you need is a flat screwdriver and 10mm spanner.
Why does my HandBrake feels loose?
If you're e-brake feels loose, it's usually the wires that simply need to be re-adjusted. Most mechanical e-brakes are activated using thin steel cables that run from your e-brake handle, down to your brake mechanism. Over time, these cables develop slack and need to be re-adjusted.

    How tight should parking brake?
With the vehicle stopped, fully apply the parking brake. Full engagement should take place near or less than ½ the parking brake's travel. If the parking brake travels more than half the distance, it could be too loose. If the parking brake fully engages in less than ¼ travel it could be too tight.

How hard should you pull handbrake?
If your handbrake is working properly, you shouldn't need to pull so much that you struggle when you are releasing it. Also pressing the button is unnecessary, it is designed to click and it won't wear the mechanism. I never heard or seen a hand brake to wear because of not pressing the button while pulling.

How many clicks should be the hand brake?
A normal handbrake should take between 5 and 8 clicks - more than this and it could be too tight, causing damage to the rear brakes and less than 5 means it's likely to be dragging and could fail completely.

How do I know if my HandBrake snapped?
The most obvious sign that your handbrake is failing is that your car still moves when the vehicle is parked, and the brake applied. This could be down to worn or damaged brake shoes or discs, but the most likely reason will be a fault with your handbrake cable.

Does a handbrake work without brake fluid?
The parking brake or E brake is a separate brake system and will work without brake fluid.

Can you put handbrake on too hard?
Engaging your handbrake too hard can cause a number of mechanical issues. You might have damaged your wheel pads, or even strained the brake cable. If you've tried everything and your handbrake's still stuck, then there's nothing else for it. You'll have to call a mechanic.

How do I know if my parking brake cable is stretched?
Sometimes, a stretched, loose, misaligned or snagged cable affects the feel of your handbrake. For example, it might feel stiffer than usual when you move the handle up or down. Or, the handle might feel loose and wobbly. You might need to put more effort into locking it into its on or off positions.

What type of lever is a handbrake?
In most vehicles, the parking brake operates only on the rear wheels, which have reduced traction while braking. The mechanism may be a hand-operated lever, a straight pull handle located near the steering column or a foot-operated pedal located with the other pedals.

a nice video. Unfortunately for me mine has the armrest option and that complicates the access to the wires inside the car without damage to the plastic parts. Guess ilø just be gentle and take my time

There is a video about removing the armrest and in the video you can see that it is possible to acces the mechanism from behind. Video name is: How to remove the armrest from a VW Polo 6R

My mk 7 golf parking brake cannot fully disengage. It bounces back a bit from the lowest position, can I fix it the same way ?

Is this the same on one that has drums?

    • @TajMotorMedics
      @TajMotorMedics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi yes you can adjust it through the drum or the cables. If the cables are stretched and handbrake has high reserve travel then adjust the handbrake just like in the video. Thanks 🙏🏽

Not correct way to adjust. Handbrake lever in drums will be seized. JLV recordings has a good video addressing this
