The singer/bassist is the late John Wetton who played with King Crimson, Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash and others. The other guys, Geoff Downes (keyboards) and Steve Howe (guitarist) came from Yes and drummer, Carl Palmer came from Emerson, Lake and Palmer. They were basically a supergroup.

Wetton was also in a short lived prog band called UK with Terry Bozzio. Saw them open for Tull, & they put out a few albums. Danger Money is a great album by UK. He joined Asia after UK.

They left the band to do their own albums and got into directing videos when they were asked to do a promo video for their song 'An Englishman In New York', when the director that was hired to do it couldn't grasp the concept the duo were proposing; so, they did it themselves. They also directed The Police 'Every Breath You Take'.

I so much enjoy you guys sharing your reactions. I am a huge fan. Being 52 years old, I can recall waiting for just the right song to come on with a cassette loaded in the tecnics sereo system that occupied the top of my bedroom dresser. just hoping the radio dj didn't talk too long at the beginning or ending of the song and hoping the recording levels were p to par, the tape ran smoothly and all that. What a brilliant time to be alive that really was. I think this is one of the most bombastic of all 80's songs. The whole arrangement is theatrical and over the top just like being alive was, back in the day. you know what else it was? Vulnerable! Damn 80s musical artists were vulnerable! Innocent AF. SO DAMNED HONEST with themselves. I see today's youth as tremendously guarded hiding behind sweatshirt hoodie and ipods and running scared. Not that I blame them. They have 10x the awareness of imperfections in society as I did as a youth. They are doing what youg people do surviving until adulthood, surviving until they have a voice. Watching and calculating. In the 80's people just put it all out there recklessly, yet theatrically.. lWithout this channel I would have never made this connection or felt motivated to share. Praise God for youtube and for ROB SQUAD.

Then John Lodge did the songs of Moody Blues... Then Carl came back and did a full set with Asia... the man was 69-70 and he played the heck out of those drums for two sets... he's in great shape... there are a lot of men half his age that don't have that kind of endurance.

Asia was one of the first supergroups. John Wetton vocals and bass ,Jeff Downes keys, Steve Howe guitars, and Carl Palmer drums all were in successful groups Yes, King Crimson and Emerson Lake and Palmer. There were other incarnations of Asia but those original 4 were responsible for their biggest hit Heat of the Moment. Thanks for that blast from my past.

Asia....I don't know....there is something about this song and the song "Only Time Will Tell" that feel so bitter sweet. There is a beauty and sadness to them. Each time I hear these two songs, perhaps more than any other songs from my childhood, they pull back in time with such strength and longing, to some quiet magical space in the clouds just above the neon and the city streets. I was a pop chart kid so these two songs of Asia's are pretty much all I have ever heard from the band, but these two songs were more than enough to make me love Asia for the rest of my life! 82 crew!💖

    Steve Howe (Yes)- Guitar
John Wetton (King Crimson)- Lead vocals/Bass
    Geoff Downes (Yes/The Buggles)- Keyboard
Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake & Palmer)- Drums

Asia are an English rock supergroup formed in London in 1981. The most commercially successful line-up was its original, which consisted of four members of different progressive rock bands that had enjoyed great success in the 1970s: lead vocalist and bassist John Wetton of King Crimson and U.K., guitarist Steve Howe of Yes, keyboardist Geoff Downes of Yes and the Buggles, and drummer Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Their debut album, Asia, released in 1982, remains their best selling album and went to number one in several countries. The lead single from the album, "Heat of the Moment", remains their top charting and best-known song, reaching the top 40 in over a dozen markets and peaking in the U.S. at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.

Asia is a "supergroup" that includes original members:
The late JOHN WETTON (King Crimson, UK, Wishbone Ash): Lead vocals, bass
    Steve Howe (Yes): Guitar
Geoff Downes (Yes, The Buggles): Keyboards
Carl Palmer (Emerson, Lake and Palmer): Drums
This was from 1982. The debut album that this appears on is close to a perfect album. Other songs from that album include singles "Only Time Will Tell" and "Soul Survivor". Deep album cuts worth listening to: "Hear Comes the Feeling"; "Cutting it Fine".
My recommendation is to also look back at their other works: Yes, ELP, King Crimson.

I had this on 45 (I took the records from an old jukebox a pizza place was junking) when I was little kid. I've always loved it. It was always one of my favorite 80s songs. It still gives me goosebumps if I haven't heard it for a while... like now. Thanks for the review and reminding me of this song. I can't believe it has been a few years since the last time I listened to it.
Tip, in case you actually read this comment: Most of Asia's music sounds like hit songs. Some of their songs definitely won't appeal to every taste. They were really talented and experimental, producing some really unique (for the time) sounding music. As with all art, if you're exploring a style that's new and unique you're not going to please everyone. Their depth wasn't necessarily in their lyrics so much (still they were usually good) as their instrumentals, arrangement, and vocals. Anyway, I don't think you'll regret it just listening to their albums sometime. You're almost certainly going to hear something that strongly appeals to your tastes.
