Crinacle is an audio EXPERT, so when we got his newest pair of IEMs made in partnership with Moondrop, we were excited to see if these would be the next go-to pair of IEMs that we could recommend to everyone wanting to dip their toes into h i -f i audio. With a waifu on the box, Linus knew he had to be the one to check this out with help from headphones.com. Will Linus be impressed, or is he just here for the ladies?

We need Dan for Audio short circuits change my mind
agreed
I refuse. Change MY mind
Correction, we NEED DTT (Dan Tech Tips), not LTT.
Agreed. Dan is the best part of LTT
We need dan, to review a dan clark headphone
The audio for this video seems off. Linus's voice sounds like he is in a big empty room.
Maybe because he is in one xD
My theory is that the primary mic died and the audio was recorded by the camera's mic. Then they just boosted it in editing.
I know nothing about video nor audio, btw.
Yeah, almost sounds like they're using the camera mic. Just checked some older Short Circuit videos and the audio is a bit echo-y on all of them, but not near this level.
yep sounds bad
Ya, noticed that too. Always funny when something funny happens on an audio product review. lol :D
You should put song titles & artist names on screen as you're listening to them. Even if you can't play them, it'd be good context to know what you're using to analyse.
That’s a really good idea
That’s an amazing idea. This would really help understand the response they show.
Yeah, that's the standard for pretty much all audio reviews.
that's good idea for reference, especially when they talk element of music they hearing.
but, as crinacle said. best music to test audio equipment is music that you familiar with.
I support this
Why does the mic audio seem different than older episodes? I feel like I'm hearing a lot of the room.
Yeah sounds a lotta reverb
Theres no background music.
@@Nayr_uk Yes there is
Yea, it's been an issue for a month or two maybe
Noticed that as well. A lot of reverb lately.
Happy to see Crin getting some more recognition. I reviewed the Dusk a while back. The general consensus in the community is that it does sound better with the DSP cable, but sadly the cable adds a lot of noise artifacts that is most noticeable when listening to spoken content, or music where there’s moments of silence. I pointed the noise issue out in my review. The headphone show initially gave it a positive first impression, but later in the full written review on their website by Listener, they also noted how the cable does introduce noise, and they show some measurements to back it up. It’s unfortunate, as otherwise this is a great IEM
The artifact noise comes from the magnetic planar, every single one I've tried no matter the price whether over the ear or in ear always has that horrible noise, some tuning and some cables enhance the noise more than usual
Not an issue with the Diokos @@mightymushroom4980
@@mightymushroom4980 it’s from the FreeDSP cable. It’s not present if you’re using it analog. As well I also hear it with other Moondrop IEMs that use that cable, as well as any other IEM when using that specific cable. It’s an artifact that even in measurements , it seems to fluctuate its volume the quieter the surrounding audio is, rather than just a typical noise floor issue that’s always there in the background. Crin is looking into it with moondrop
@@mightymushroom4980 Nope, it's introduced by the DSP cable. The cable also adds the same noise to all other brands of IEMs that it's connected too. With the analogue cables the dusk has none of this noise. Also the noise is not there If you use the same dsp settings introduced through an app without the dsp cable.
@@mightymushroom4980 nah, planar just had that higher sensitivity
source matter
The most criminal part of the $1,400 Walkman is that it’s only 128gigs
But don’t worry… they have a 256gig model for only $3,700
People definitely won't buy it for the internal storage. Even the cheaper walkman models or cheaper audio players in general always have a 1 or 2tb supported micro sd card slot.
And.... It isn't even the japanese model with higher power output
@@velocity790 When I found this out, I took it as Sony's passive-aggressive response to the fact that they don't give a rat's ass about NA/EU consumers when it comes to portable audio.
@@Dicloneus66 it's something to do with compliance with NA/EU hearing loss law bla bla bla.... If I have a dB for every time I hear about politics, I'll already have hearing loss.
I'd like to see Linus check out the $20 entry level IEMs. Like the Hola, Wan'er, and Sal Notes. I think he would be blow away at how good the chi-fi entries have gotten.
I'm interested into the salnotes rn, how good it is?
the Hola is discontinued sadly
I have the Zero 2 and they are fantastic, even though I own another more expensive IEM too :D @@retrofizz727
I got the Moondrop Chu 2s recently and I freaking love them.
Yes! I have the LINSOUL 7HZ x Crinacle Zero 2, and they are mind blowing for the price.
That huge treble peak at around 16khz is actually an artifact of your (and every other) IEM measuring rig, and also, of the shape of the human ear canal. It is something that any isolating (closed-back, rubber-tip) earphone will feature. It happens because of the way in which the frequencies along that range resonate inside of the ear before reaching the eardrum in a human, or the microphone in an ear simulator. You can actually move the peak up or down the frequency range by changing the insertion depth of the IEM into the pinna (and likewise, into your ears), since depending on insertion depth, the frequencies will resonate slightly differently.
This peak has been fairly controversial, since:
1) Most people's listening at that high treble range is very subdued or straight up absent
2) Tuning human-hearing-range drivers at that frequency is extremely hard, specially trying to get rid of such a sharp and narrow peak
3) Because the IEM market has had this peak for so long, IEM users are actually used to it, and the treble sounds a bit shallow without it
4) Again, the exact frequency at which the peak happens changes with insertion depth, so tuning it out for all possible users, or even most users, is impractical
Some attempts have been made recently to tune it out, but 99% of IEMs keep it because it's not worth fighting it.
Word of advice: standarize insertion depth for your IEM measurings!
Thank you for sharing your wisdom!!
Yeah this comes up in a lot of their IEM videos. A lot of mention harsh highs or boosted treble just by looking at the graph without any acknowledgement of the pinna and the affect it can have.
Yeah all of this analysing yet its well established that we hear bass less the lower the volume however we call iems that sound good at low volumes boosted junk. Audiophiles are a joke.
So when it comes to length mode resonances in IEMs, it absolutely is an issue that can't easily be solved since depending on the air volume of the individual, the resonance will shift around a lot. It is true that you see these at various intervals in measurements as well, but the solution is not to standardize insertion depth for IEM measurements, rather it's to measure at multiple insertion depths to see how the response changes depending on air volume differences.
Additionally, these measurements were done on the B&K 5128, which uses a pinna and real ear canal - notably different from the typical canal extension tube measurements you find with GRAS 711 clones that have a small cylindrical chamber where you in theory could change the insertion depth manually. Whenever you're measuring with the pinna (even on the GRAS systems, as they should be measured), your insertion depth is standardized to where the IEM can physically fit based on the pinna itself. Or in other words, when measuring with a pinna you inherently give every IEM that achieves a seal a reference position with the tips being used. Change the tips, and you can potentially change the reference point.
With regards to the Dusk, the massive treble peak isn't just a length mode resonance issue, there's legitimately excess upper treble there, even though there can be length mode resonances higher up as well. A lot of IEMs have this, not merely because of the length mode feature (whose strongest point is often closer to 8khz), but because boosting the upper treble effectively masks the lower treble resonances that occur for individuals. It's one way manufacturers have tried to solve the problem of varying air volumes for individuals due to differing canal sizes. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, but I can also understand why it's there.
Do you mind sharing some iem recommendations for someone who is treble sensitive?
Alot of people will be introduced to Moondrops quality control 😂😂
Not the faceplate.. AGANE
What quality control? >D
Now i missed my Aria. LOL
MIAD01 review when?
nah that phone is ass .. specially if u open them it a mess cheap ass battery inside of that phone and using the same dac as their dawn pro which is cs43131
yess
Really curious about that one
it ass 50$ inside a 159$ ass phone ...using cheap ass battery brand noise ass hell
@@alfarizi2179What?
3:20 it's sheet molded composite. It's a form of carbon fiber that isn't cured in an autoclave, but it IS infused and compressed while being cured.
I currently have the Moondrop Kato IEMs, and I am very happy with them. Moondrop does some awesome audio.
I'm a huge fan of my Katos. I'd love to try the Dusk, but the large nozzles terrify me.
Dusk's nozzle is fairly smaller than the blessing 3
I had those but the right earbud got really quiet one day and i don't know why

You can use a simple parametric eq to fix the 3.5mm output and make it sound exactly like the usb c one. Crin posted the exact values somewhere. Too lazy to go look. Must be easy to find since I don't even own these iems and still somehow came across that.
It's like 3 or 4 bands only.
Just leaving this here to make easier, if you’re on android you can use wavelet, the profile is most likely there already, just plug the headphones in and search, very easy, very useful for headphones overall
As someone who loves eq ing to harman target its so tedious to keep switching to different profiles on different devices each time. the cable is one size fits all
@@pikkyuukyuun4741 yes. But not all devices have a usb c out. Take my desktop for example, I'd have to run some kind of a usb extender cable to be able to use the iems. For me setting up a simple eq in Equalizer APO is much simpler. Just set to the output I use most often for IEMs, and then turn it on & off depending on what I'm using. Takes 10 seconds tops.
@@8lec_R that 10seconds is enough to annoy anyone
@@pikkyuukyuun4741 bro plugging my iems in and switching outputs takes me longer lol. Not to mention hooking them on my ears. That's honestly why I don't switch IEMs more often, cuz it's a hassle.
Switching eq profiles is the least of my worries. Alt+Space>type "apo">turn off other eq profile and turn the one I want to use on with 2 clicks.
I still can't get over the Moondrop Space Travel wireless buds, they're not the absolute best but they're so damn good for the 30 dollar price tag. Insane!
They really are great!
Some told me that the ANC sucks, but also none of them told me another 30 dollar that has ANC that is 'decent' for them, this thing is freakin great for the price
Whoa. Didn't expect an LTT review for the Dusk 2. They're my 2nd IEM ever, and probably my mains for the foreseeable future.
ah man, would’ve loved if this was a double review/“unboxing” and also mentioned the blessing 3
Watching this, listening on the Dusk's. Must have lucked out. I haven't gotten any significant pops or hissing with the cable as of yet, at least. I'm quite enjoying them for most functions so far.
Love the audiophile content!
These more expensive iems are great and all, but I think where the chifi value really shines is on the sub 100usd, or even sub 50 usd range. I'd love if you tried some of those
I like that not only are LTT featuring more enthusiast grade tech on this channel from time to time, but that Crinacle is big enough that his products end up everywhere.
The carbon fibre looks to be what's known as Mokume style carbon. Multiple layers of unidirectional carbon strands will be laid down at different angles and then machined down to create the marble/Damascus-like effect. It's been used as an interior option on the Aston Martin Valkyrie
You can use eq on whatever device you're using to make it the same as using the dsp. I have a lot more devices with 3.5 or xlr or 4mm balanced ready for listening. Just some advice
The DSP cable is for people who don't want to deal with other EQ apps, but if you really want wireless for the wired IEMs, then there's Qudelix 5k with advanced EQ settings that persists in the device with every boot up. Personally, I'm just sticking to the Zero:RED as it works fine for me even without EQ.
if only the cable wasn't garbage, multiple people have constant popping/hissing noise with the DSP cable
the worst part about it is the microphonics, i have a minidsp with my variations and i literally cant use it unless im sitting down and not moving
Can confirm. Bought two, one for me and one for my bf but have problems with the cables from both sets. Super disappointing
@@v000000000000v I got a free DSP and it's basically unusable on sensitive IEM's, out of my 2 watch boxes of IEM's I can use it on like 2 IEM's lol
@@chrisk3127 man i wish there were other usbc -> 2 pin options for phone use
Moondrop and shit Quality Control name a better duo
You should try the Mangird Xenns Top, seems like they have an excellent bass quality and are considerably better than the dusk
Ive had moondrop starfields for years and they are awesome
Got Moondrop Aria SEs, though they are now my secondary iEMs as I got Truthear Hexa's. The Aria's with spring tips are just much more comfortable for long sessions.
Starfields were too sibilant for me
out of curiosity have you ever tested sony's WI-1000X/M2 . where do they rank?
Maono making enough bux to land on Short circuit! ayee!!
their mics were the first ones i got 5-6 yrs ago
Yeah ! Covering crinacle !!!
This is an absolute game changer in the IEM world. Everyone else should just give up after this. Can’t wait to hear it.
I love these so much. The tuning is fantastic sure, but the punchiness of the bass is amazing. The amount is well below I usually enjoy, but the quality is so much better that it works beautifully. One of the best audio purchases I've ever made and one of the cheapest ones in years even if they're not cheap.
Also the EQ values are public so you can use the analog cable with them as well. The app is still trash and an easy skip, but I expect it will be refined and on the Play Store or App Store then.
1 second out of the foam and we get reminded about Linus Drop Tips. Literally.
Please do a full DSP video! I would be really interested in how to tune any random junk speakers into something usable.
for budget iem, truthear zero red is a great option. Neutral with a bit of bass boost. And the truthear Hexa is also a good neutral iem
Been here done this. The USB thing is cool but its forced.
The dusk2 was a legend. The dusk3 was extremly well received AFAIK. This started as a dusk3 improvement so i expect them to be awesome. And thr dsp cable is a bonus (as in, its made to be awesome without. Not made ro be fixed by dsp).
this video gonna put the spotlight on IEM for a lot of people ! thx linus ;)
According to Crin, the sound with 3.5mm should have been almost identical to the B2:Dusk which was received great 🤔
These headphones are literally, the only semi-practical use case for that walkman.
Hope you guys review Moondrops phone they released and also tbe fiio m23.
DSP is for Digital Signal Processor , its also used for photography
Not mentioning the noise and other characteristics of the dsp cable? That's what I want to know, will it sound worse?
I'm guessing the audio didn't record on normal setup. What we're hearing is secondary audio from camera or other
Tfw when you're listening to this on your dusks
That was the best sponsor segue he's done in a long time
Where can I connect the DSP cable considering that I don't have usbc ports on my computer? I wouldn't want to lose the sound quality, even if i can improve even better, thank you.
I love my moon drop starfields. The sound far more open than the blessings and don't need the wak dsp cable.
Piercing sibilance on those
linus back into audiophile stuff since the (in)famous Abyss video
ngl id love to see more if y'all test all of it

Why is it infamous?
@@Kunu_ audiophile controversy/reactions to it (abyss headphones themselves are pretty controversial apparently)

The only downside of DSP connection is that it will have noise, I don't know if it's not grounded like analog 3.5mm/2.5mm/4.4mm. Every IEM I've tried with DSP cable have that issue, I'm sticking with my analog jack thank you. Plus simple eartips rolling will fix or match to personal passive eq
Hey! I have that exact same Maono dynamic microphone.
I'd be down to try the ear buds, but I don't know that I want to spend $300 on one of those pairs.
Uuu! New mic, or new mic placement. Me likey
Oh man this video dropped when I was curious about moondrop, was worried about their quality control
Whoaaa never thought I'd see a Maono sponsor spot on LTT. I really like Maono and Fifine audio products, they're usually really good quality for the price point and (In my experience) punch well above their price point
This was actually better than a lot of audiophile reviews - some of them have been getting pretentious, unclear or downright misleading.
I'd be really interested in you guys looking at the Linsoul P1. In ear planar magnetic earbuds
The depth and richness of bass are simply unique to this kind of audio equipment. Prices may be higher, but the quality leap is undeniable.
wheres dankpods when you need him
Alternatively use Wavelet and enjoy AutoEQ with 3.5mm cable or use it with a TWS earbud adapter😉
Good thing in only use in ears for pcvr with my quest2, and 20 bucks is totally enough for me. And for music recording at home, my 100 buck headphones work fine.
YESSSS, I see the stubble coming in. Beard Days here we come
I'd like to see a comparison of these to the Moondrop Chu2's they cost like 20 bucks.
Is it necessary to pay 10x the money?
love these iems
What the point of using 1300 walkman if you are using cable with DSP which will sound the same on any device
How about a Moondrop Dawn Pro with a Truthear Crinicle Hexa? Best cheap combo?
The crossover, I didn't know I needed
Just buy Ifi btr3k and eq these with 3,5mm jack so u dont have to have some spyware on your device. Since btr3k no matter the streaming device or player i always have the sound i want and for soo cheap also (for a audio product)
I have a pair of Dunu sns tips on these and seriously recommend it. Still a very thick nozzle if you are not used to it.
Also equalizerAPO ftw.
The stock dsp tuning is excellent. Near perfect imo and the plug and play nature of a usbc cable is great for my use case. These aren’t for everyone but for certain folks they are simply amazing
let's get some de-reverb in post guys
Get the eq's from the items and add them in wavelet
Portable dac is my life now. Cable for the win. Take that, apple!
i got mine 2 weeks ago and my DSP cable was DOA, they said a few months for a replacement....
I've never found a pair of in-ears that stay comfortably put in my ears, tbh. On-ear headphones also make my ears hurt like hell. I can only really do over-ear.
I get IEMs to get something with an accurate sound profile, closest to how music sounds in a studio. Something that needs an app and presets, isn't something I'd go for.
These sponsor segues deserve an emmy award.
IEMs!
In my experience, switching headphones always gives an off vibe, as we get used to the specific sound profile of what we daily drive. I do get good info fom ShortCircuit videos on headphones/earphones, but of course I'd watch other reviews before buying (which I think that's what LMG preaches!, so all good! to be clear). It's good to get a glimpse into new stuff! But I take personal reactions to sound profile with a big grain of salt.
(these seem super interesting btw! I do like bass but as I get older, not at the expense of the rest.. I honestly thought these would be even more expensive!.. don't know that I'd give up the practical-ness of true wireless tho ... !)
Crinacle My Favourite Measurbator 🤤
Watching this video with my “just Dusk” right now in shock thinking there’s no way ltt would do a video on this.
the cheapest yet best IEM that I owned comes from Samsung included in the box when I hought Galaxy A5 (2016).
I even go to Samaung store again and bought it again when the first one broke. It is equivalent to today USD 5, freakin cheap yet balance sound.
Ofc, it cannot beat USD 30 headset, but it sure can beat a lot of USD 10 headset.
let me give experience by using headphones - I'm not a audiophile just casual listener and I bought Beyerdynamic DT700, I watched too many reviews and bought this model, price was 130 EUR, in the beginning I really didn't like it, I thought I lost money, but after I listed almost 40-60 hours now I can say that this is best headphone that I have used in my life, comparing to Sony ,boss and all other Bluetooth this one is next level, the point what I'm saying is please play music for at least 40 hours and review any earphone or headphone especially if there are planner magnets, it makes big difference.
Can u make another video like this like the best IEM out there on a budget and do comparison
I have a pair of thruthear crinnacle zeros and they are amazing, i shamelessly plug them to all my friends, for 50 bucks they are a fucking steal for listening to music and gaming
why dont use it for gaming with amp and dac?
Imagine watching a review on dusk while using dusk, couldn't be me lol
I trust Crincles input on IEMs as I would trust the designer of the Titan submersible.
that's awesome if it includes the airplane adapter!!! lol
Cord is only long enough to reach Linus' pocket...meaning it's too short for everyone else!!!
ouch, that price >_>
Test the Bluetooth amp BTR3k. This is mostly due to the audio dac on most phones being none existant for 60$ its decent and affordable and willl allow for deeper bass and higher highs. Trust on this. Ive used the old btr5 if works great but i cracked the display and needed a replacement
Also look into the KZ earbuds if you want a cheaper experiance that wont break the bank but still operates on a mostly flat but decent frequincy band. This can obviously be tuned and sonce the dac can give the power you should have a very good experiance under 100 dollars
I highly recommend the Qudelix 5K over Fiio blurtooth dacs. It has a outstanding quality and app, with tons of settings. Much prefer it over anything Fiio, it pretty much hit the ceiling when it comes to bluetooth.
A comparison to some common headphones would be useful I think.
i saw all the reviews for this and decided to just get the blessing 3 and eq, like crin says why pay more for a tune you could do yourself
Cuz blessing 3 and dusk have different crossover and different driver config
@@donnytramp6955 i knew that much but i wouldnt have used the dsp cable, so the highs would have been a negative for me personally. not to mention blessing 3 are 100-200 cheaper.
