I read that fuji came up with these medium format rangefinders for group portrait photographers at tourist attractions. They had to be portable so setting up was quick to and they had to be medium format to resolve all the faces well.

I have the original gw690. I use it when I want high res architectural and landscape shots. Really impressive.

I liked the description, script. I just bought a gw690 gen 1 and came across your channel. Keep it up!

If memory serves, the camera was marketed to wedding photographers of that time. They lived and died by group pictures. With a rangefinder, you get to see what's going on when the shutter fires. Whether somebody blinked or whatever. The where other medium format rangefinders sold into the same market, as well. The Koni Omega comes to mind.

I'm glad someone made a video comparing the GW to the GSW. I have the latter, I use it sparingly but on the occasions that I do... woooo do I love the results!

Great video! I love how you showed a shot looking through the view finder at 2:23 . Would it be possible for you to do a video on how to focus with this camera looking through the view finder? I have not found a video yet that shows how to focus looking through the view finder from the user's perspective.

Sure! It's a basic rangefinder style view. I'll try to add that to this video later, or will cover it and show an example in a rangefinder video I'm working on.

I love all manual cameras, makes them somewhat more serviceable to me. Also no electronical failure, which is more common for old cameras than mechanical failure

I have he GSW689III and totally manual is not bad news iMHO. I have hand meters and am quite comfortable using them. Great camera as is the GSW670III. I carry both in a backpack when I travel, along with a Sekonic meter.

    Thanks for the review.
I own and use the Fuji GSW690iii medium format rangefinder camera with 65mm wide-angle lens and the Fuji GW670iii medium format rangefinder cameras with 90mm normal lens.
I love to use them when I need higher image quality than my 35mm film camera and when I need easier portability than my 4x5 inch large format view camera.

How do you like the model 3s? Can’t decide between ii and iii series.

Cannot compare because I have never owned or used the ii series. When I bought my iii series, the ii series had been discontinued but the iii series was still in production.

There’s a gw680/gsw680 as well. The GX680 is the SLR with the bellows system

The best of these cameras are the original G690 where the interchangeable lenses - you can then use the 50mm which is an amazing lens.

At 4.22 you state maximum aperture of f2.5, I'm sure you meant f3.5? I have the genll with 65mm lens @ f5.6. 28mm equivalent in 'full frame' terms. It's my 'portable' view camera! 👍

Did?... Did the video just stop at 4:20 for anyone else? Then just be dead air for 3 minutes, and just show a pan of the open film door dead silent? I'm so very confused. Is this an artist choice that I'm not getting?

these cameras should have been standard. 35mm is too grainy.
