    Came across this as I have recently been watching a lot of videos related to Fuji gw690 (purchased one myself).
    Look forward to potentially more content with your experience on the 670. Also appreciate someone taking pictures in an area I'm familiar with even though I don't live there anymore

      Started out looking for a gw690 but the 670 seems to be rare

    Well done video comparison! I would be thrilled to use either one of the cameras! I think it really comes down to what and where are you using the cameras! As you said, portraits I think would favor the Mamiya for usage. However, if I was going hiking and was wanting to keep the packing weight down, the Fiji would be my choice!

    Decades ago, I used Mamiya TLR medium format cameras with 55/80/180mm lenses for weddings. When it was time to replace my worn-out wedding cameras, I replaced them with a Fuji GW670iii rangefinder with a fixed 90mm lens and a Fuji GSW 690iii rangefinder with a fixed 65mm lens. However, I was never able to find a medium format Fuji with a telephoto lens so I purchased a Mamiya RB67 SLR with a 180mm telephoto. I now use 50/90/180mm lenses on my RB67 for studio work and I use my two Fuji rangefinders for field work.

      wow! what a crazy progression over time! so cool that each of them had a special use case for you though. i love having. both the RB67 and GW670iii for different purposes too. thanks for the comment!

    You could change out the focus screen on the RB, I think they made 6 or 7 different versions.

    • @Necroblob
      @Necroblob 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is correct! They make a split image rangefinder-style screen which I have in my RB. That said I don't think it's essential I've never had a problem focusing with the normal screen.

      I changed mine for a Rick Oleson with split prism focusing. Priceless.

    thanks for that test, . I am behind a medium format camera and it is so useful, eventhough if blurishes my mind.. hehehe. For example I always thought the rangefinder system was very difficult to catch the right focus... anyway!!! I am afraid of the weight of the RB67 so I am considering one of the Mamiya 645 serie. Frame ratio apart, do you think the image quality is the same. I love portra 800, do you think the saturation and sharpening is the same between the RB670 and the 645 super? or please help!!

    That a range finder is easier to focus depends on the subject. If you try to focus on a single branch of a tree, or another subject with many crossing lines. It's nearly impossible to focus.
    Fuji lenses - well at least those on the GW and GSW models - tend to be very sharp and have a nice contrast.
    I own the RB67 as well as a GW690 and a GSW680III. For shooting at 90mm I prefer the RB - I don't really like the 3:2 ratio. For 65mm it depends, for landscapes it depends, if you want to use filters or easily switch between film the RB wins. Also then you have the possibility to change the focal length. But in the city or when you want to be lighter, the GSW680 III is a great choice.
    I don't use it that much, I did this weekend. I almost forgot how nice this camera is.

    • @filmbenjamin
      @filmbenjamin  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i love this perspective - i totally agree that the versatility of the RB is unmatched. different films, filters, lenses, it’s amazing for that. that’s why i’m leaning towards not selling it because they are just both different cameras. i do love the 670 for the compact and lightweight aspects. i think just for the season im in right now, im prioritizing travel and ease of use, but i can totally see later down the road wanting to have the options the RB provides.

    i could hardly tell a difference between most shots. i bet whoever scanned that one comp just picked a bad white balance spot. with the size and focus benefits of the fuji i'd probably shoot that one mainly. what's the price difference between the two cameras?

    Too bad you didnt get the 90 for mamiya (you could even go KL instead of C for the same fstop) Also, I question your decision to compare resolution with scannined negatives. I recommend enlarging ;) regardless nice vid :)

      what's the difference between f3.5 and f3.8 vs the price justification.. plus, they are both old lenses so we cannot say one is newer than the other. it's all a function of how it was used.. My suggestion: get any non-c, c , nb, kl whatever, they are all the same.. I have them all and it's a waste thinking you're getting anything better from the latest.. no difference at all.. ( my shots are straight into the sun just to let you know my use case )
