When I was in the Military I was handed a book by an NCO and it was written by an American war correspondent and it was a very good break down of about 14 weeks of combat. It was very interesting to see how the Allied NCO tacticians began surviving and generating predictable scenarios of initial encounters of first contact with German positions. Some German units began to change their gameplay but often it was too late. In several of the accounts it seemed they were heavily reliant on support systems that were never coming but had little or no response to such shortages. Tit-for-Tat warfare did not suit their tactics.
They were reliant on support systems that never came because it was the end of the war and they were absolutely depleted after fighting for 6 years. Would of been a different story if USA and germany went head to head in 1939
The information regarding this soldiers name and post war testimony is based off a erroneous 2000s forum post. Well you’re also forgetting the sea battles, so that would expand the number of battles. One the biggest mistakes, Hitler invaded Russia. The United States has stayed out of the war (directly) until 1941. Imagine if Hitler didn’t declare war on the United States, and had not invaded Russia, Europe would not be what it is in 2024. It certainly explains the millions of prisoners taken by the Germans in the what was eastern Poland and the Ukraine.

Also he has served every front in the war except Africa. About the pictures he only told me that he remembers that day. They had an ambush and after the fight was over, they took food and cigaretts from us vehicles. Guys from the "Propagandakompanie" came by, stopped and asked if they can take pictures. Thats all...nothing spectacular. I think they just liked the heavy armed guys after the fight smoking US Cigaretts. Hans never realised, that the pictures are so famous. We surrendered to US Troops close to Vienna after the US Army promised them, not to deliver them to the Russians. Well, he and many of his comrades where given to the Russians, so he had not a very good opinion about promises of the US Army.
After he returned from Russia he suffered many problems because he has served in the Waffen-SS, specially LAH. He had the Iron Cross 2nd class and the silver Close Combat Medal, Assault Badge. He was woundet several times and a russian shrapnell was still in his back until he passed away. He was a great guy, a truly legend!

Just cause he has a history channel doesn’t mean he is claiming to be a historian or that this is his personal research
The paradox in the story is that Tragarsky is a Slavic-origine name, the suffix _-sky_ tells so.

Were Allied tacticians able to predict where the Germans would next attack or lay ambushes?
They were reliant on support systems that never came because it was the end of the war and they were absolutely depleted after fighting for 6 years. Would of been a different story if USA and germany went head to head in 1939

The Germans fought the British, Americans and Soviets on two fronts. Germany's soldiers were definitely superior warriors to their Allied enemies. Germany lost the war because they fought on two fronts (actually three if you count their struggle against the British in North Africa).
