Glad it's worth a buy, thanks!! This'll be part of my entry into reading Jack Kirby's work, I've never experienced it until now!
It is definitely worth picking up, so much nicer design than the Marvel reprints. Though, of course, there are zillions of wonderful examples of Jack Kirby's work around
Another good looking Marvel/Penguin this is turning into a class series without doubt.
Hope so, there are many more titles they could do - haven't seen any news about more to come though
I have these in other versions but I feel like I want these as well. They look so nice and it’s a good selection
I am the same, got them in quite a few formats - the Penguin classics are pretty good
I'm really impressed with these Penguin editions, the black spines add a touch of class, I can see myself grabbing a few of these! Cheers.
Certainly worth checking out, really impressed by them
Just an afterthought as well, I think it would have been cool if they had done dustjackets for the hardcovers with the same design as the soft covers , they would look good on the shelf.
Yes, that would be a nice touch - there is always something special about the look of the penguin classics (as well as the contents)
I’m surprised you didn’t get the hardback. It’s beautifully done
I could have bought it but it is nice to vary the formats.
Taschen have just brought out asm vol 2 and silver surfer
Yes, I doubt if I will buy them just yet, probably ASM but I have a few other big comic purchases in mind before them. Unusual choice with the Silver Surfer but I guess a 1-18 volume is pretty good. Hope it comes down in price.
I've been thinking on getting ONLY the Captain America book from this collection, since it have its first appearance of Steve ( only available on the Golden Age Cap masterwork or omnibus) but buying the other may be double-dipping for me, since I have the masterworks. Its a great collection for history purpose nevertheless. Greetings from Panamá.
Hi, yes, it is definitely a case of double dipping for me with these, I have had these stories in many forms over the years (though not in Marvel Masterworks).
I'll stick to the surfer omnibus
Asm 2 not sure why they have done that why not daredevil
I guess they will get around to Daredevil if there is a demand. I am tempted by the ASM 2 one but probably not the Silver Surfer, got a number of them in originals already (2, etc ,.. sadly not 1) plus the omnibus - I don't think I need the Taschen volume however good it looks. Would love to see the Wally Wood etc ones done in Taschen (perhaps even a series of EC ones ...) They are great but they do take up a lot of room as well, far worse than omnis
It is a great collection of stories, but have to agree that I think it would have been better off including more earlier issues instead of jumping ahead
The earlier set seemed to go for most of the stories, with this set of three they have gone for jumping all over the place (well, a little) and going for the key stories (though, they missed many of those such as the Kree one) or for the best stories (for me, the Frightful Four)
I always prefer matt to gloss, too much shine on glossy paper, have to move it around to read it, great review, thanks.
I prefer the matt also but sadly, the omnis / epics etc have all gone for the gloss. Glad you liked the review.
I treated myself to the Jack Kirby Omnibus books of his Fourth World which were in hard book but had matt pages inside back in the day I got Mr Miracle comics but you never knew what would turn up at the newsagent, this was before comic book stores so I never got the full story so I finally could follow the full story, Jack created so many books for DC in the 70s, Mr Miracle, which I loved, New Gods Forever People, Kammandi, Omac, Sandman, Atlas,Justice Inc, Demon, err..Have I missed any?@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews
Probably missed a few, Jack produced zillions of books. DC Comics were hard to pick up, as you say, you might get issue 5 but then it was 7 or 8 or sometimes issue 2 etc. That is why I like the omnis, at least I can now read them in order.
I have all the FF Marvel Masterworks some autographed by Dick Ayers and Joe Sinnott! Ben Grimm/Thing character design and development has always added a lot to already great comic book! Kudos about the X-men too! My first X-men were 60&61 with Sauron aka Karl Lykos! Anytime Kirby or Adams were on a book I was definitely there!🎯👍👋
Always loved the Adam's X-Men work, sad it was cancelled with 66 and then we got reprints. Sounds great having the FF Masterworks and signed, only got a few signed books, mainly Dave McKean
Will be picking that up tomorrow from FP
Saw copies at Forbidden in London, along with the others.
Nice !
thank you, glad it was of interest
@@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I like the hard cover books in terms of quality and longevity, but I always tend to read the soft cover books more often.
I prefer hardbacks but softcover is fine, I suspect they will all outlast me (either format).
