About the forwards or the introductions: I too really appreciate it. We live in the age of the internet, and the easy way to get information, but with it also came the age of false information, or contradictory information. Reading the introductions by the very same people involved with the book (either the creators or editors, or even publishers) is a direct source of the information we possibly want and the closest we get to the truth. The internet also brought impatience (shorts and whatever) and many people struggle with written text and can't wait to get to the comic. If you don't like it, that's ok, jump to where you want. But let it to the people who appreciate it. That being said, I really recommend everyone to read it, at least in your first read through.
Not being a big silver age fan (except for spider-man), I wasn't interested in these penguin books until my daughter gifted me the X-Men one for Christmas. I finished it in a day. I'm definitely going to purchase the others. They are a great build, and I love the matte paper they use. Very thick, so there's little to no bleed through (I'm looking at you, new omni builds 🤨). I honestly prefer the matted paper for older comics, it just comes across as less garish from the already bright colors, tachen does a pretty good job restoring these old comics but they’re not worth $200 (imho…)

I'm tempted to pick up one of these because of the literary analysis. Here's hoping we get one for Hulk that talks about his origins from Jekyll and Hyde and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
If I was a betting man, I'd put money on Hulk, Thor & Iron Man being in the next batch. Perhaps Daredevil instead of Iron Man. That's my guess anyway. :)
@@chriswing7466 I was thinking Thor due to the discussions of Norse Mythology that could be included. Iron Man could discuss the impact of the movie, as that's all I can think of for Tony.
Things to mention the Fantastic Four volume. This only collects the first story in FF 11 omits the Impossible Man story from issue 11. This book also omits the first 7 pages of issue 48.

Eternals you should check out Jack Kirby's run, since it's basically Marvel's New Gods from what I've heard. There's also Neil Gaiman's miniseries if you want a quick read. As for these Penguin collections, it really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a hand picked selection of a character's most important classic issues with some academic analysis thrown in there, these get the job done. However, due to the mapping you won't really get stories in order. For that I'd recommend the Epic Collections. Far cheaper too.
Hey Omar - do you have any idea from your guys at Marvel whether there will be more of these editions in the future? These are far and away my favourite reprints at the moment - the paper and layout all just spot on.
Been thinking of buying these and I decided with your video. I wonder if DC has some volumes with the same academic treatment and editorial curation. Would love a Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern and Justice League in the same format...

This is personal taste, but out of those three Thor by Aaron and then Cates Venom and then ultimate Spidey. However most people will tell you Ultimate Spidey first :)
I'm just curious: Why were some issues left out of the penguins classics x-men collection? X-men #2 is not in the penguin x-men set. Was it that bad of a story or something? I thought the whole reason for these sets was to show the history of these comics?
Looks like these would be good for a reader that is curious or wants an overview of a series. There is also a series of Marvel volumes from the Folio Society in England. Haven't looked too closely at those. It appears to be very selective but probably for a collector that wants a high quality binding. Omnibus is my preference for collecting series.
Love the content as always ...but yikes, *do those covers hurt anybody else's eyes?* Not sure what it is exactly about their colours but it messed with my focus seeing them. Good to see comments thus far have others liking them at least

Taschen has some of the best forwards and background writings in the Marvel Comics Library books, FYI. Long and very detailed.

I picked up the X-Men hardcover to learn a little more about the classic Era! Can't wait to see what vol 7,8, and 9 are from penguin!

Is the penguin classics and the marvel masterworks basically the same thing?
Not at all. These are not mapped in chronological order.
I'm disapointed.that the Spider-Man volume doesn't include the Master Planner Saga.
They look sweet .
What I hate about these is how they leave out some issues, so now to get them all I need to double dip 🙄
