  • Fanatec CSL DD 2 year review - In this video I have a look at the Fanatec CSL DD direct drive wheelbase that I have owned and used exclusively for the last 2 years and give you my thoughts on it now and the problems I have had not just with the base but with the system as a whole and the things I have liked and things I didn't.

    Overtensioning the carbon on the base is a user error. I have roadbikes in complete carbon, and you have to be very sure to not over tension anything, or it will just break very easily. So I use a torquewrench for everything on the bike. I did not know Fanatec used carbon in this one, and not sure if its a benefit :D

      When the product came out, when I learned that the axle was partly made of carbon (for memory, to improve the sensations of the ffb) I already knew that there would be problems... for me it was more of an inconvenience than an advantage.
      On the bikes, at the end of the season, some even do an X-ray, so as not to end up in intensive care...

      @@THESHADOW97139 honestly real carbon fiber is a nice aesthetic thing but i wouldn't use it for a "serious" thing unless it's an actual elite product with real structural integrity behind it, afterall the most important things are performance and reliability, but reliability has priority no doubt

    I brought the CSL bundle 2 months ago...the base gave in just after 3 hours in use...it started to overheat and shut down after 20-30 seconds...fron tgose 3 hours ,i only use it in game for about 30 minute.
    I did a test with the wheel whithout updates and was fine,then i decided to update the firmware and apply the ffb settings recomanded by Fanatec on the forum for the CSL DD and then joined a server and after 15-20 minutes it got hot...I did got a replacement in 2 weeks but this was the story i got for you.

    I have had this base + mclaren gt3 for like 2 months, and I'm constantly dealing with disconnections of the wheel to the base, have had one QR1-Light break, and the shaft wobbled left and right constantly no matter how much i try to adjust it. I ordered a QR2 and am hoping this alone fixes the biggest problems with the CSL.

    Hii ! Great video...Just need a suggestion...I wanna buy my first wheelbase,Should i go for the G29 or G923 which are both around 250 Euros or the CSL DD bundle for 400 Euros...Is it worth the difference?

    • @JasonStorm
      @JasonStorm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I would buy the CSL DD bundle out of those 3, it is by far better, it's quieter, stronger, better feedback and room to upgrade a lot in the future whereas if you buy a G29 you have to buy an entire new wheelbase

    Hi, I also purchased the porsche wheel and the csl dd. Now I’m worried that I will not get all the fine force feedback. Just to confirm did you get the 5 or 8Nm version of the base so maybe the 8Nm version does not have this issue as much?

    • @JasonStorm
      @JasonStorm  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, no I have the 8nm version, I still use it and love it but I do feel a bit more detail in the McLaren GT3 wheel being light and mostly plastic , to get a little more detail back you can always put a 300mm wheel on it but depending what your coming from you might not notice the loss so much but set it up and give it a try and see how you go

    I had my mind set on the Moza R3 for the new Forza, but they have been out of stock.
    Would I regret getting the CSL DD now or should I wait for the R3 (no eta, some sites say no sooner than thanksgiving)?
    Thanks

    • @JasonStorm
      @JasonStorm  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I don’t think so, CSL DD is great and has more power and if you want more than 5nm in the future you don’t need to buy a whole new base just the boost kit, as an ecosystem, fanatec is one of the best out there currently, biggest problem is if you ever have a problem customer service isn’t the best

    • @Cavi587
      @Cavi587 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The only thing R3 has going for it is the fact it is xbox compatible, but so is CSL DD. The Ready2Race bundles from Fanatec are great now, I got myself one a few days ago, still waiting for it (That's why I'm binging CSL DD reviews now haha). I think the R3 is a bit restricting, 3.9 nm without the ability to upgrade is nothing compared to the maximum of 8nm you can get from the CSL DD. I think Moza R5 is a better deal than the R3 if you don't care for Xbox support.

    Good video .
    You have identified the majority of the file ... concerning the wheels, I am very picky at this level and it is true that the majority of these, all brands combined, are not suitable for bases of 8 nm and less .. .
    I would even say that a large majority of players do not use the right wheels.
    I feel that you are thinking of changing ... a particular model??

    • @JasonStorm
      @JasonStorm  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks, to be honest I watched this back in the edit and thought I spent too long on the wheels and I nearly cut it out entirely but I decided that the people watching this video are probably weighing up options between not just Fanatec wheels but different eco systems from the likes of Moza, Simagic, etc and thought it was important to highlight the other issues I have had when buying into the Fanatec eco system and also highlight that when buying a Fanatec CSL DD you really need to choose the right wheel for the bases lack of power so I ended up leaving it in which I was kinda 50/50 on because I think some people may not like it .
      As for thinking of changing, I assume you mean the base? I would love to change to a wheelbase with a bit more power yes, I may have one on the way at the moment but we’ll see if I’m happy with it.

    • @AndrewTSq
      @AndrewTSq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      as someone who are looking to upgrade my wheel to something else, (looking at the Fanatec) i would want to know what options there are? Cause the cheapest Moza R5 here is like almost double the price over the ready2race bundle from Fanatec. The Cammus C5 comes with import taxes, making it as expensive as the fanatec, but you get no pedals then. Not sure why I would want a 8Nm wheel, when I think 2,5Nm I have today is way too strong in most games (comparing to my car on trackdays) but I guess if you simulate a non powersteered car with lots of difference its another thing :)

    • @THESHADOW97139
      @THESHADOW97139 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AndrewTSq 🤔 I'm afraid I didn't understand the last part (I'm French).
      Do you find that 2.5nm is as hard as a real track car??
      Does the car in question have electric power steering?
      What exactly are the prices you are talking about?
      If you're coming from a 2.5nm, even the latest belt-driven Thrustmaster flywheel over 6nm, would do the job just fine...if the price can help.

    • @AndrewTSq
      @AndrewTSq ปีที่แล้ว

      @@THESHADOW97139 Not a racecar, I compared it to my Audi S4 when I used it on trackdays. But that car has power steering, which I guess many race cars do not have. But for me 2.5Nm is enough. The Moza R5 is $750, the Fanatec is $399, the Cammus is $360

    Do not take Fanatec. There is no communication with the customer at all, 99% of the pedals arrive not working. One month after you give €1000 YOU WILL NOT PLAY. There are companies that care about their product and their customers - not this one.

      @CJ-uh8bk 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Why blatantly lie? “99% of the pedals arrive not working”, fanatec have had problems with shipping and it’s definitely not been good enough from them but if you think stuff not arriving on time or arriving broken, etc is the majority of times then idk what you’re on about, what you’re talking about happens the minority of the time
