I really enjoy playing the pokemon tcg nothing is better then a good pokemon card pack opening if the pokemon cards are worth money its even better. getting into a pokemon card battle is also fun. Of course playing the pokemon tcg is my forte! like how to build a pokemon deck and playing the pokemon tcg online is how I spend most of my evenings. Pokemon tcg tournament are also great and if you even need any help on how to play the pokemon tcg then let me know! Dont forget you can also open pokemon tcg pack online too! Ive never got to open packs with leonhart or randolph but hopefully will soon! Not pokemon vgc pokemon vgc online or pokemon tcg world championships. Building pokemon decks is very fun! watching other deck profiles and deck lists is very helpful

The battle vip pass part was 100% true. Games are only fun if you either both hit or don’t hit vip pass. If one player does and the other doesn’t, the player who didn’t is getting a worse setup and has to deal with 4 dead cards for the rest of the game. Most games I play now are decided on the first 2 turns

Always happy to see hate on VIP Pass. It forces players to either match their opponents in these super high-roll turbo setups or just leave the table. Not fun!

I am still new to the TCG and even I sensed this with VIP Battle Pass.

VIP Pass makes or breaks certain decks and it's annoying. If you don't get it on that first turn your entire strategy is ruined. Lost Zone decks rely on the thing, and completely fall apart without it. Water decks with Irida can immediately search out Battle VIP Pass and fill up their bench unbelievably fast. I can't wait to see this card go away because it makes matches so boring and one sided.

The other thing to consider with Battle VIP Pass is the lack of deck building diversity the card brings. I’ve started playing Pokémon TCG in the last month and waiting for my first set of cards to arrive and ordered 4 of these immediately. I come from playing Magic The Gathering where I play Standard and EDH. A lot of complaints in deck building for EDH come from the fact that staples like Sol Ring, Arcane Signet, or Command Tower are in every deck no matter what because of the value they bring to every single deck. It limits your deck building. In a format like EDH for Magic I don’t care as much but for a 1v1 60 card deck it does feel kinda bad to have 2-4 slots taken up by this VIP Pass

I remember when Battle VIP Pass was revealed and everybody said it was an awful card and would never see play, and look at it now

Coming from a new player, who's just finished making his 1st deck, battle vip pass is indeed a mandatory card in all decks due to the absurd of edge it can give you. It might not work a lot but when it does it's crazy how the game gets out of hand in turn1

Those are the exception and not the rule unfortunately :( baxcaliber, garde, lzb, tina, mew, rapid strike, zard all play vip :( obly decks that don't are arc tina, lugia and miradon 😭
@@PuyochaGaming you might not agree and I respect that but I have seen miraidon decks run vip just to improve that turn1 rng, I do believe some decks might not run it but I also think running vip is still a plus as they will most likely benefit from that insane turn1. Don't underestimate how a card can allow you a full bench while still have pretty much a full hand as follow up
I am new in pokemon but i do play other tcgs. and Vip is used in 70% of decks, Miraidon is the hidden gem, but Lugia was popular in worlds day1. So the number varies.
So I don't think decks that don't use vip pass is an exception, its just one part of the meta.
Unlike in yugioh where Ash blossom is literally in 95% of decks...now that would be a rule, and the other 5% would be the exception
And I only disagree that it is the "rule" and "mandatory" in "all" decks.
I don't disagree that it has significant meta relevance and it is used in many decks, especially those that prioritize set up.

Of all the cards on that list, Parallel City takes the cake for me.
Often there would be no punishment for playing it, but completely screw over the other player.
If only one side said, all Pokémon on this side does 20 (or 10 even) damage, then each player would be at an disadvantage.
But nothing comes close to the Black and White Pokémon Catcher, good lord ... It made it so you couldn't build anything in your bench and I believe it was a big part of why big basic Pokémon ruled that format (Unless you played Gothitelle)

Pokemon Catcher warped the format so much that I recall an old guide from that era saying that you should build your evolution lines in pyramids (e.g. 4 basics, 3 stage 1s, 2 stage 2s) because half the time your basics would get caught up before they could evolve. They knew how bad it was lmao

I think the only deck the Battle VIP pass isn't dead weight after the first turn is Gradevoir EX, since you can use it as Kirlia fodder. So, while cool there's one that can still use it... Your point still stands. Even though I play Gardevoir, it does annoy me that Im basically REQUIRED to use these, no ifs, ands, or buts, and it really stiffles the creativity you can have with your deck.
I was having a conversation off air at barcalona regionals that all the most successful vip decks have ways to bin them off. Garde =refinement, lost box can lost zone them and mew can cram them! Its annoying how this is even a thing 😂 and yes deck building feels so boring now 😂
VIP Pass, Cram-omatic, Elesa. All these cards made the starting turns of the game incredibly volatile and unfun. Games would be decided by a single coinflip on turn one. It's one of the reasons I didn't enjoy the game on the SWSH era, well that and that excessive HP values of Gigantamax pokemon .

I guess as a Yugioh player I'm much more for degeneracy in my card game. I love ADP GX, it got me back into the game after falling out after Tapu Lele's release back in SM era, and Battle VIP Pass was one of my favorite consistency pieces that could be pitched later for the likes of Cram-o-matic or Ultra Ball to grab evolutionary pieces like Mew VMAX. I'm also surprised Mind Games Slowking isn't here. I've played that format historically alongside Celio's Network and it SUCKS. Having a 7.5% chance of resolving a trainer card with 4 Slowkings on the board otherwise they just Phoenix Wing Wind Blast it back to the top of the deck is super frustrating.

Ngl I don't have too much of a problem with battle vip passes being like dead weight after the first turn. Usually whenever I need to use something like ultra ball I never know what to discard because everything in my hand can be useful. But when I have a literal useless card in my hand, I can easily get rid of that. But ofcourse that doesn't really make that part good and it also doesn't help the fact that games feel more dependant on who gets their battle vip passes out than the actual decks themselves

I actually don't mind the battle VIP pass _that_ much. As a gardevoir player, its great when I start with it, and even better when I can get another one in my hand using mew or iono (going second). Even after my first turn, they're great as fodder for refinement or ultra balls.

Having a VIP pass and your opponent doesn't just wins games. To me it feels comparable to Maxx "C" in yugioh where it's a card that you have to run in every deck because it's simply that powerful and the player that opens it basically just wins.

Vip isn't comparable to maxx c. Maxx c is game warping because of the tempo.

In terms of cards that are hated or ruin the game, I agree that cards like Battle VIP Pass might be more significant than the super broken combo cards that eventually get banned in expanded.
Most decks you're either playing 4 VIP Pass, or you don't know what you're doing. Opening one kickstarts your game severely already, imagine 2. It's one of those card designs where the drawback almost doesn't even matter, kinda like "pay half your life points" in yugioh.

I literally only used Battle VIP Pass in a lost zone deck because at least then it could be used as lost zone fodder after turn 1.

I like Shaymin EX because not only does it give a consistency boost many decks just can't function without but Shaymin also had a number of tradeoffs so it was never busted until too many scoop up cards were in the format. Shaymin took a precious bench space which had to be planned around, it couldn't press an advantage on its own because its attack was just a self scoop up and only did 30 damage which is not enough damage to matter on most games unless the scoop up was the plan going in. And it was far too easy to gust up and snipe for an easy 2 prize swing to the opponent that you either had to be able to absorb or could just lose the game by being careless.
Shaymin was a very cool but strong card yeh!
It's weird how when I play grabber on TCG online several of my opponents just instant conceded. I've been looking up information about whether people have an issue with the card but couldnt find anything.
People probably just no they can't win after grabber so they just conseed, grsbber has seen of high tier play in dte mew but never really saw much hate 🙏
You can't swap out Battle VIP Pass for a Nest Ball because it gives too much of an advantage.

I would have liked some mention of the earlier item or ability lock Pokémon like Seismitoad EX, Trevenant or Garbotoxin Garbodor. I think TPCI noticed that these were very unfun to play against and balanced future iterations of these abilities by making the lock much harder to stick.
Also, and although the format seems to be dead, in expanded everthing related to hand control combo: Red Card, Reset Stamp, Lt. Surge's Strategy, Jessie & James, Deliquent, Chip-Chip Ice Axe. I am very glad that TPCI banned anything even remotely related to that combo.

With Battle VIP and Evolve TM going second is the new going first. If I go first and don’t find it it’s GGs. Going second I can also Arven for VIP & Evolve TM or use another supporter to see more cards. Before this I always chose to go first

Battle VIP Pass has the same reason pot of greed has in Yugioh. No, not just the free +1, but giving the player who draws it on the first turn such a higher chance to win the game.

Pass lets you play 2 Basic Pokemon from the deck to the Bench, which is equivalent to Special Summoning 2 level 4 or lower monsters from the deck. That's actually way better than Pot.
@@rogueinvestor2375 Special summoning is special because you usually have only 1 normal summon each turn. If VIP pass searches the pokemon it would be have the same effect (well, would be even better actually). And the point stands that the person who draws the card will likely win.
Putting the basics directly to the bench is actually way weaker than if it put them to your hand. You don't get to benefit from "put into play" abilities like Lumineon V.
I know is broken but I am genuinely so grateful I do not have to rely on battle vip passes with my Miraidon ex deck that is my first ever since I started playing late Nov. I see almost everyone else play the card except my friend with a MewVMax and Genesect V deck.
Miraidon is so lucky to not need it haha!

I've been screaming into space about VIP ever since I saw it in a game of pokemon. When I started playing in November of 2022, I came from playing competitive MTG and had a stint in competitive yugioh.
VIP is one of the worst designed cards I've ever seen. Crushing hammer and cram-o-matic are following right behind. They all follow the same issues of one player always feels bad - you either have an amazing opener with the VIP (God forbid 2 or even 3) and the other person doesn't have it, or nobody gets it and it's a dead card.
Honestly, just ban VIP.
To add, if your deck NEEDS VIP to function, it's 100% a deck building issue.

Really surprised at no Let Loose Marshadow. It was a searchable turn one judge without using a supporter for turn, and starting with a 5 or less card hand first turn made a lot of games unwinnable

Still to this day i hate N or as its now called, Iono, add in we now have reversal energy and the game now has active punishment for being in the lead, Roxanne was fine as its being at 3 prizes or less made it a 1 of...
But every deck i create now has 4 Iono as its just never a dead card, as well as being able to just outright punish for no particular reason than screw you... Every deck i have HAS to have an Iono counter, theres no other card in the game that requires a hard counter in deck like it... And even then the hard counter can be too late as the opponent gets to use the cards they get first
As much as i hate n/iono I think you do need some comeback mechanics in format tbh 😭
@@BurtsPTCG comeback mechanics sure, but they should be player power not disruption, especially not a "look you only have one prize!!! Let's put you down to one card every turn!!!" It gets boring very fast, cards should be fun to play, but they shouldn't also want someone to just walk off in the middle of a game... I play a lot of card games and N is literally one of the very few cards across all card games that triggers me

the bench is really strong right now so cards that would encourage people to keep a smaller board
Hell give me a VIP pass that works if your opponent is 2 prizes ahead, or make raihan a card that's reprinted more,
in essence give me cards that let me play the game and not stop my opponent from playing it
To finalize the how I rationalize, I am primarily a Yu-Gi-Oh player but I love the freedom of Pokémon, i literally quit playing paldea evolved format because I got so bored of Iono, I've come back for obsidian flames and am really enjoying the speed of charizard, and as long as I stay above greninja league I'm happy
yeah battle vip pass is a double edge sword if you draw it first turn great if not a waste of space only good if you have ultra ball or anything that will discard it.
So yes, only being able to use Battle vip Pass on the first turn is annoying, but if you run ultra balls and super energy retrievals where you have to discard 2 cards, these quickly have a secondary use, being able to discard them without losing your better cards.
While that's true i don't think that makes VIP any better for the game unfortunately 😭
@@BurtsPTCG I get it, but having come from Magic where one of the ongoing jokes is how Storm Crow is op (because it's only use was discarding it to use Force of Will, a free counter spell that you didn't have to spend mana on if you discarded a blue spell instead), people ran 4 storm crows specifically as discard fodder for that one card, no other reason. So that's why I don't view vip pass as much of a problem.
@jish55 the problem is that you are forced to run it because tbe upside is so high. But you if you miss it one your first turn your at a massive disadvantage not only cause your set up will be hindered not only cause they are now dead cards in your deck but because most likely your opponent hit there's and will set up infinitely better then you will.
Vip battle pass polarises the game from turn 1 way too much for it to be a healthy card for the game imo. 😭

@@BurtsPTCG Iirc there still was a Baby Blacephalon deck when ADP came out. There might have been some Porygon Z decks as well.
Baby clowns was relevant and PZ for sure! I stil think that lucmetal was just as bad for the format as adp personally :p no one prize decks were getting through lucmetal 😭

ADP *shudders*. ADP and Zacian were around when I got back into playing the TCG and these 2 were everywhere. It made it not very fun to play for sure.

Gives me sableye vibes. That card was the reason TPC decided to do an early rotation when BW showed up with its rule changes. Sableye would have been way too busted for a format like that at the time and still is now.
I swore to never use this card(vip) in my deck, but after losing 50 games just because of this pos, I now run four of them. If you don’t you literally don’t stand a chance. I wish they would ban it

I’ve only ever played Yugioh and the idea of a deck/1 card combo centered around hand rips, lockdowns, etc. is interesting to me when it appears in other games. So many cards like the ones in this video are still legal and just as toxic/annoying but that’s just Yugioh 😂

i was expecting Path to the Peak, cause that card is so annoying to a lot of decks making them unplayable without the amount of abilities on Pokémon with rule box that you have in a deck, forcing you to play stadium removers while reducing consistency and be more dependable solely on the remover for you to play against Path to the Peak. Path to the Peak for me makes the matchup very favorable to the user of it.
If path to the peak didn't exist i feel like rule box pokemon would have very little counter play :(
@@BurtsPTCG true but doesn't meta have a bunch of it? at least to me giratina and mew are very hard to counter but giratina has good damage to one shot most rule box i guess and giratina has no rule box abilities in the deck
Path to the peak is actually healthy for the game. It acts as a floodgate against the stronger rule box decks, forcing them out of their consistency to stand a chance against it. Furthermore, it stops EVERY rule box pokemon, making it a generic card to have. Cards like Path (every rule box) or Ting-Lu (every non ex) feel necessary for expanded due to their versatility stopping certain overly powered strategies
Shai I love ya man but can you please consider taking the background music used during the Shiftry segment out of the lineup? From about 1:35 to the end of that segment it goes on what sounds like a loop that is really distracting from an otherwise great segment. Thanks for making these fun videos!

Shiftry + forest was legal for all of 1 week in standard play L take, would have beem better talking about plume with relation to forest. The rest of the list is pretty good tho. Mawile could have been fun but was unfortunately apart of one of the least healthy decks ever in Adp Zacian

@@BurtsPTCG set was released 8/15 shifty was banned and rotated 9/1 I think that leaves one week but I'll be honest I didn't check 😂 and I'm pretty sure it was on ptcgo at the time because they updated the card data base as soon as pre-releases started back then.
Genuinely, I'm coming from magic The gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. So I know a thing or two about busted cards. And VIP passes Id really only give us six on the busted scale because you guys play four copies and it turns into four garnets. If you don't hit it first turn, that's a pretty big risk. Getting ionoded into your bad copies. Late games will mess you up. I play none but to each there own. (Not talking junk on the card. I only don't play it cuz I don't like dead draws)

This is actually one of the things that's good about VIP pass. Since the player going second has access to a supporter to help find it, and the player going first doesn't, it does a huge amount to even out the difference between going first and second. The player who goes first gets to attach energy first, evolve first, and generally just be a turn ahead in the race in basically everything, unless it's one of the few matchups where it's easy to make a meaningful attack on turn 1 going second. Battle VIP pass only being usable on turn 1 means that it's actually important that the player going second gets to use a supporter on their first turn, and creates legitimate advantages to both sides of the coin flip.

I don’t think vip pass is that bad. It’s a high risk high reward card. Yeah it sucks if you don’t get it first turn but that’s the high risk of it. If you are worried about it then play nest or level ball.
It's got nothing to do with high risk high reward. Its how polarised it has made the game. Games are decided in the first two turns almost souly due to this card.

Zoroark GX is why I stopped taking the game seriously. It removed skill expression from the game in the sense that comebacks were nigh impossible against it. Zoroark decks removed variance from the game as you just had to assume the Zoroark player “has it”.

You seem to have your priorities off. The true culprit of shiftry was forest of giant plants. It also made t1 vileplume locks. There's a reason it's banned and shiftry isn't. Mawhile was fair because you gotta bench it, ADP was the real problem. HTL was a fair card because Float stone + keldeo made it manageable. The only truly unfair cards are banned in expanded.

Forest of giant plants was definitely horrible but that doesn't make shiftry a card that doesn't deserve hate though
I think VIP Pass is an incredible card. There’s nothing wrong with having a fast setup turn 1, because we are simply at the mercy of how many good Ball cards they decide to print. I’ve played during turn 1 supporter and turn 1 attack, and VIP Pass genuinely feels the best out of those.
Vip is awful
A fast setup means that the player going first can bully the player going second. Removing battle vip means that we have to play more search cards instead of other cards. That would slow the game down. It also removes the luck factor of vip pass.
