the main difference here seems to be people pretending to do it for hours on end. in the past, people just claimed they've read things that they haven't. sitting at a cafe and pretending to read though, seems like brain rot
I read fiction, pretty well exclusively. It's not just escapeism for me, there is an art to a well told story, in the author's ability to invoke imagery, to craft believeable and relatable characters, to explore themes and ideals that might acutally inspire people. I love sinking into a new world, a new perspective, and sometimes familiar tropes. I read voraciously! That's why I did my degrees in literature. This "trend", although honestly it's been happening since forever, is just a new iteration of pickup artists. They are shallow and/or insecure, and will, in turn, attract the same because what they don't realize is this: people who legitimately read are going to want to talk about books with them. And we can clock them pretty quickly because there's always a type of book they gravitate to, and they can only discuss it on the most shallow of levels. They want to appear more intelligent, deep, interesting, but they're literally the kid in class trying to BS their way through an essay or a question the teacher has asked about a book they never actually read. I love when people read because they enjoy learning, or because they enjoy it! But seriously, developing a personality is going to give greater success in dating than pretending to read.
If reading makes you look romantic, then just do it on your phone anyway. Maybe the next generation out of Alpha will find a Kindle kink for people actively swiping to turn pages
People romanticised this way before tiktok. Reading is appreciating an art form, appreciating and analysing to understand the world and ideas of another individual. Understandable that people find it "attractive", considering intelligence is an attractive trait. However it's sad that some people don't actually read to read and enjoy a book and an author's writing, but simply to look "hot" or "aesthetic". But I don't think it's that big of a deal, it's just one of those trends that some people pull.
This is just sad. People seem increasingly allergic to doing the things that are connected to a certain identity and instead just try to appear to do them. It was already bad enough that people have always done things to obfuscate who they truly ARE (appearing to read is removed from reading endless non-fiction with no action is removed from understanding and engaging with the subject up close)
the obstacle is the way, the daily stoic and meditations are my go-tos but they are all stoicism books. For more variety id highly recommend Jared Henderson's videos. he does tons of great philosophy novel videos.
I think people should romanticize reading. It's a healthy hobby, and if there are people out there dumb enough to think reading a book makes them look attractive, then maybe they'll actually learn something when they finally quit it for a moment to read the thing they're holding. Even if they don't, who cares? Reading will always looked at as positive.
These videos are rage bait!!! I love reading too but so many people who love reading have it as a pillar of their personality and these videos are designed to piss off them off. I think this is a tho good video, especially the second half!
"Oh my god, have you seen this guy recently? He has been going to this cafe everyday and reads?! Like, he clearly isn't like the rest of these guys mindlessly scrolling tiktok. I wonder whats going on in his head. Girl, he's sooooo interesting" type shit
In my opinion, he made a good call to end things. He handled it very maturely because he understands she has her own life and shouldn't be going backwards in it to appease him. honestly love the concept of video, I really wanted someone to capture this topic and I'm glad you did ... but you need to work on audio for more progress anyway great work buddy!!!!
Hi Ashmeet, I know right I heard someone talking about this and I couldnt stop thinking about it. What kind of audio issues are you refering too, I might have missed something in post.
@@MRbookworm look at tools to master your audio. Also check out what podcasters do to refine their voice or enhance the audio. Try listening with headphones and speakers and really get a feel for how you sound and what audio sounds good.
It entirely depends on what you are wanting to learn. When I started I knew I needed to learn about money so I looked up popular money books non fiction and rich dad poor dad came up. I prefer reading books that will help me to become more productive like feel-good productivty and atomic habits 2 solid productivity books and to get better at communication, like how to win friends and influence people and influence. What do you want to learn then look up that topic with non fiction beginner at the end. Try not to look for the perfect book there seems to be a big trend right now that only some books are good and others are bad but you will learn something from every book you read so don't worry if you read a "bad" one to start. Good luck
Different types of dopamine? Just say the word "pleasure" or "enjoyment", dopamine isn't some abstract metaphysical substance like ambrosia, it is a chemical necessary for physiological functioning. If your brain is "releasing less dopamine" then you have Parkinson's disease or some other neurodegenerative problem.
Book can have visuals and colors. Illustrations are not only helpful but also their own form of literacy. Visual and artistic literacy are still important.
i think people romanticized reading LONG before tiktok

Why PRETEND to read when you could ACTUALLY find books that intrest you, and ACTUALLY read them?
Bc they can't read
@@lightningboat and it's sad that's it true
I wonder how one of those fake readers would react if someone asked them about the book or ran into someone who knew the book well 😂😂
I cut the clip but someone did ask about the book and he just showed them the title haha

Why people pretending of reading? 😊
For the pussy, obviously. It's not rocket science.
@@goatboy7698what does it mean?
to look attractive or nonchalant idk
Why don't you just... read the book if you're doing all that work???
Maybe short attention spans? No reading comprehension? Who knows! So funny and tragic.
reading for the "aesthetic"
aesthetic is everything.

i gotta make a video about kindles for sure.
reading is good, reading is silent.
I can't believe posers exist in the reading world too now
no one is pretending to read, these videos are staged. you caught the bait.
literally
smart tactic if i may add
You got any proof they are
i like reading now but i used to hate reading because english teachers love to ruin it 😊
amen, all english teachers are the same
There's nothing wrong about romanticizing reading
The word you guys are looking for is "poser"

Idk why people pretend to read. Books are just movies but without visuals, colors, music, voices... yeah reading is pretty bad isn't it?
Books are really fun to read because you get to learn something that teachers never talk about in class

@MRbookworm eh. When I'm reading stories it's basically a movie playing out in my head.
Look, let this one slide. Its better than a thousand people having a friend record holding a calculator at a concert or being a nuisance in public.
