I very much applaud you for getting out of the Amish life young. I would expect there's a lot of simmering anger among the women, given the way their opinions and wisdom count for little. In some ways your description of growing up mirrors what I experienced in my non-Amish household--children were to be seen and not heard; my parents made me feel invisible, useless and worthless throughout my years with them.
Anyway, long story short--when I left home the impact from how I was treated as a child was deep and I'm still shaking it off decades later. It plunged me into a depression that included multiple suicide attempts, and required more than a decade of therapy so far. I'm finally coming out from under I think.
    All the best to you.

19:05 What a scary way is this to confront a young Lady like that???? Unbelievable.
When I watched this video you got 3.4k Subscribers and this video was watched by more than 10k people! And none of them was forced or argued in to do so. We all watched it because we loved to hear what you got to say.
Marketing works totally different these days and social media and especially TH-cam has changed so much. You can no longer live after standards who were current in 1795...
Your parents should have all reasons to be proud of you...
I am so happy to be born at that place I was born. I always asked questions and I use the internet to find answers. And - thank you a lot for providing me the chance to watch behind the stage of a live you went through.

I literally just found your TH-cam channel last night and I watched every video! You are incredibly strong and courageous. As you said in one of your answers, you did learn to have a strong work ethic. I was happy to hear you say that, because I had the same thought as I was watching each video and I wondered if you would see it that way. I don’t think you would have made it to where you are if not for that fact! I find it interesting that one of the concepts of the community you were raised in is one of the reasons for your success! I was raised Southern Baptist and I felt that if I was having fun, I was probably committing a sin. I realize now that It wasn’t the religion or culture that created that feeling in me, it was my family. Because I was fortunate in that the church I was raised in taught that God loves us and is forgiving of our sins (playing cards, dancing, etc.), if we ask.

I am real estate developer. When she says that men make all the rules I had a different experience. I worked with an Amish contractor for thirty years and we became close friends. I went to his families weddings and attended many funerals. We had meals together and even vacationed together once. He talked in a very loving way about his wife and I remember him telling me "I run the farm and business but Fannie runs the house. Many times I saw him defer to his wife when she disagreed with the way he wanted to do something in regards to the children or their home. He showed a very high level of respect for her opinion. She past of cancer a few years ago and I watched as her passing took a great toll on him. A few months after her death he called me and said "I noticed you had taken pictures from time to time. I would appreciate very much if you could send me any of Fannie" I was clear he loved her very much.

You will not see what goes behind close doors if you don't live in the community.
      1. Why is it that the men get to choose what they do but the women don't?
      2. Regardless of how much you think you know what goes on inside of the community it's not always the way it seems.

Thanks for doing this video. I've recently taken an interest in the Amish culture. I've finished watching a documentary series called "Breaking the Silence" where the host, a former Amishman, goes behind the scenes into their culture and that there is so much fear to do as the church wants. It was very eye-opening. It was great to hear your story about leaving the Amish and this Q&A session. It seems like there are some great aspects of the culture, but there are many not-very-good parts of it.

Hi, Emily, thank you for sharing! KIND of weird, that we only get a picture of the Amish and other cults from people who left and who are of course kind of bitter. It’s all based on fears. They make god very small, believing that he’s so intolerante and petty. We all want to belong to others, so we tend to compromise as long as we can stand it. So hard for you to first come 'from the rain into the eaves' (vom Regen in die Traufe kommen-as we say in Germany). I’m glad you can wear dresses again😉👗… Love from Germany, Monika❣️

    Hi Emily,
I'm just curious to know whether or not you were subjected to any kind of child abuse for you to have left the Amish culture.
I came from a family of domestic violence and kicked out of home at 16, just because I signed myself out of High School and being told you should have been dropped down the s##thouse(long drop - out house) head first the minute I was born, has never left my memory. My life was probably the complete opposite of yours.
Trying to make a life for myself in this world full of greed and no natural affection wasnt easy, let me tell you! 😢
I knows whose life I would have preferred.
This world has gone to the pack! Oh, the old Love of money hey! It cant buy health, genuine friends, love and most of all a loving family.
We all have a story to tell, some worse than others, but GOD is now living in my heart moreso than ever before.
May GOD watch over you and your boys 🙏

I was not physically abused but there is a lot of abuse in the culture. I'm sorry to hear you had to experience that and I'm glad to hear you were able to get out of it!
