Actually, it was the fall that probably had killed him. Remember how he floated up to the ceiling, when he started laughing [wheezing, actually] ('I love to laugh...'')? When he finally ran out of air ** thud ** and he was gone.
That 14 syllable word song was seriously impressive.
I literally got my PhD in chemistry and I had to go over the word three times to get it. It wasn't pronounced at all correctly, but it sounded old-timey-English-y and rhymed, so success!

It’s mentioned at least a couple of times in the film, such as when the policeman brings the kids home and George says Winnifred don’t be emotional.
He actually says it several times over in the film. I can't think of a single time he calls her "Mrs. Banks" to her face. I might be a bit off in my timelines, but weren't married couples still calling each other "Mr. and Mrs. X" at this time, not using given names? Or did that end in the Victorian era?

I'm glad you guys addressed how much they upsetted P. L. Travers. As much as I love Mary Poppins, I would never forget how shocked I was after reading Travers' wikipedia page after watching Saving Mr. Banks. Disney's dirty bussiness tactics comes from the original man himself so it seems..
MCU Howard Stark reminds me more of Walt Disney than Howard Hughes. Perhaps that's not a coincidence.
Travers was an awful attempt at a human being and I think it's only fitting that Disney was able to wrest Mary Poppins from her.
That is just shocking!! And SAD! and despicable and twisted and back-stabbing and foul!!!!!!
“Saving Mr. Banks” did accurately depict Traver’s financial state before and after the release of the Disney interpretation of Mary Poppins. While Travers may have been upset with the portrayal, she did benefit greatly from a monetary perspective. And the release of the movie sparked renewed interest in a character which had been close to moribund in the publishing realm. You would have thought that she would have been more grateful. The bottom line is that Disney’s “dirty business tactics” set her up financially for the rest of her life.
Love the Blue! You know, the Travers might have preferred that her book was forgotten than it was made in something that she hated. It's not always about money and fame, but the stories you tell.

If it's any consolation, the movie made PL Travers a lot of money. She earned 5% of Gross Total, around $5,000,000 in 1964, or $40,000,000 after inflation.
From what I've read, she later came to terms with it, saying that while it was a good film in its own right, it wasn't like her books. She was willing to make a sequel, and one was actually proposed in the 1980s, but nothing came of it. She did agree to the stage musical, on the condition that no one from the film could be involved (which meant the Sherman Brothers couldn't write new songs).
But oh so true.
PL Travers only hated Mary Poppins becuase it was made by Walt. She had been hating on him since Snow White. Honestly, while Saving Mr. Banks should have stuck with Travers hating the movie, the rest of the depiction was spot on. As The Sherman Brothers put it, "she was a witch".
The Notorious BTG Exactly, let’s not jump on the poor PL Travers train. The movie took her stories to a whole new level of fame and she got plenty of fortune along with it. Besides, she wasn’t a kind and enjoyable person to be around by all accounts.

By all accounts, P.L. Travers was a very difficult, often rude person. That doesn't justify what Disney did, but "Saving Mr. Banks" actually plays down her shrew-ness.
Also, while she hated the movie upon its first release, she stated years later that the film was actually "okay" after seeing it a couple times.
PL Travers was kind of a not so great person. She agreed to adopt twin boys, but only adopted one at the behest of her astrologer, condemning one to a life of poverty while the other lived in relative luxury. Of course she never told her son he was adopted, but at 17, the twin she didn't adopt came over to spill the beans.
I came here to say the same thing. Saving Mr. Banks sugar coated it. She was even worse to deal with in real life!

to be fair most authors are never happy with movie adaptations. Also from what I know the book was alot more dark and disney has always been that whimsical family friendly type movie maker.
@@jasonwiessner the fact that a strict character like book Mary Poppins, or at least the world around her, still resonated with children could be a clue to important things kids can still find important on some level - yet perhaps that wasn't trusted to work on a broader audience.
Reminds me of when I watch Dragon Ball Z and the phase when Piccolo was raising Gohan - it was harsh and almost felt cruel, but there was an odd appeal there, between the importance of what they were preparing for and the way it complemented Gohan's education in a way that feels unlikely nowadays.
TheCandymusiclover, read the book, you’ll see the travesty of this movie. It’s great, but it’s *not* “Mary Poppins”.

“Mar” poppins and offered them watermelon who had big red lips.

Two years later, and this may still be my favorite honest trailer. Between the shoutouts to the other 60's live action Disney movies, the song rewrites, and the frustrated British noises, it's just so good. This and the Avatar: The Last Airbender trailers are the ones I revisit most.
Also, Héctor Rivera crossed the bridge this year for the first time to see his living family on Dia de los Muertos, and we STILL haven't seen the honest trailer for his movie. Do Coco!

Mrs. Banks' first name was Winifred, it says that in the movie several times so don't know how you could say she doesn't have a first name.

@Sternia Hoeheim, as far as I'm aware, she was even more useless in the original book and Walt Disney turned her into a suffragette to give her more character. Also even is she wasn't a suffragette, the movie just isn't about Mrs. Banks (Winifred), she's not an important character to the story like Mr Banks (George). If anything it's kinda offensive how the people at screen junkies apparently just forgot her first name, everyone seems to remember that Mr Banks is George even though the only person who refers to him as George throughout the movie is Mrs Banks and Mr Banks only ever refers to his wife as Winifred throughout the movie. In fact she's probably called Winifred as many times as he's called George.
