Mary poppins is s Ravenclaw who was amazing at charms but got expelled for her curiosity with muggles. Also her umbrella is a part of her old broomstick refashioned as an umbrella.
Julie Andrews chose not to appear because she didn't want to take the star power away from Blunt which honestly was a wise choice. This film did an excellent job of standing out on its own while still having clever nods to the original that doesn't beat you over the head with it. Also, don't understand how Bedknobs and Broomsticks is a "ripoff" as it literally had the same songwriters from Poppins who even incorporated songs they couldn't fit into that film into Bedknobs. Great video otherwise though!
@@nurmadihahbintizulkifli1734 Bedknobs & Broomsticks was intended to be the spiritual successor to Mary Poppins. It featured a magical leading lady, precocious children, a 2D animation interlude, music by the Sherman Brothers, and David Tomlinson (playing a much more likable character this time around). It knowingly followed the Mary Poppins formula and never tried to shy away from that, so I think it's kind of unfair to refer to it as a "rip-off". I think it also makes perfect sense to have Angela Lansbury doing a cameo in Mary Poppins Returns for the same reason.
My friend and I came to the same conclusion. Mary Poppins is an Eldridge Horror, but she feeds on happiness instead of fear. The number 19, the balloons, the unexplained magic. It's pretty creepy.

I cried a lot too, and feel very happy that 51 years since the first film still makes me cry. Love, love, love Mary Poppins in both her avatars. Love you, Emily Blunt, almost as much as I love Julie Andrews!
Fun fact if you watch her (Emily Blunt) in the Quiet Place (giving birth in the bathtub) and then the scene in this Mary Poppins where she makes bath time fun for them, you see two very extreme differences yet filmed at the same time.
A series of 8 books. The second part was planned in the 80s but held up by the author. She has left the Earth so her estate cleared the way for the second book. More to follow.
One of my favorite lines of the movie is when Mr. Banks comes home finally after being fired, and Mrs. Banks hugs him, relieved and says, “Oh, George, you didn’t jump in the river! How very sensible of you!” 😂
yo great video but let's keep it real that Meryl Streep role was supposed to Julie Andrews but since she said no they was like yo! Meryl! you want another oscar?

I have a fan fiction idea that Mr. Banks' first love was Eglantine and then it didn't work out with her when he was a con man magician guy so he broke up with her while he was fighting in WW2 against the Nazis and then he married Mrs. Banks and lived next to a guy with cannons and had 2 kids and then became a banker instead of a con man magician guy and he tried to keep up this facade of being a serious guy but then Mary Poppins comes along and he finds his old self again and jumps around singing and dancing and flying kites.

Interesting take on the classic character. Mary is very close to my heart because of my own complicated relationship with my father and I cried my eyes out watching Saving Mr. Banks. I loved how hard The author fought to see that the father in the film was redeemed at the end. I also still cry my eyes out to this day when DVD sings spoon full of sugar to Mr. Banks “and then their little faces staring up at you because their daddy always knows just what to do...” it’s a beautiful tribute to fathers and how extremely important they are in the life of a child.
They should have just made a new Mary poppins more in line to the book. The sequel Mary, though played perfectly by the delightful Emily Blunt, is completely different in character from the Poppins of the 60's film. From her vaudeville scene, to being unable to stick up for herself against Michael, etc.
I dont know if you take recommendations but I would love to see you explain or analyze Black Mirror episodes? Since they're all so different and each episode have their own meaning and explanation, it'd be cool to hear you talk about it! :D
My only issue with returns is that they thought a defined villain was needed. I thought Colin Firth being evil wasn’t necessary, there didn’t need to be a central villain. He could have just been a strict, by the books type of character which is why he would have been insisted on having the certificates with all necessary info, then the familial struggles could have been focused on more 🤷🏻♀️

PL Travers had a very disturbing childhood. She lost her alcoholic father at age 7 and witnessed her mother’s failed suicide attempt. Mary Poppins was her escape fantasy. Mary Poppins was the saviour her 7 year old self desperately needed. She spent all her life writing these books and never once did she claim ownership of the books even though she’d clearly written them. The Certificate of Shares wasn't on the kite the ENTIRE time. We see Mary Poppins watch a specific piece of paper out of the many she magically picks up and puts in a bin for Georgie. He then sees it, the one with the drawing of the family, at the top of the pile as he's throwing the bin away and puts in his pocket for later. When Mary later suggests he patch up the kite if he wanted to fly it in the park the next day, he uses that same piece of paper. That at the right moment is discovered to be the missing Certificate of Shares. So no, it wasn't on the kite the ENTIRE time. A spoonful of sugar is obviously a proverb. What is life without a meaningful, genuine, good laugh? Mary's goal is to remind the Banks family that family is the most important thing. In both movies, the parents in some way or another lose sight of their children while they're going through tough times. Along with her magic and wisdom, she brings the missing happiness back into their lives. Yes its unfortunate that Disney went so against Pamela's wishes - simply by making Mary Poppins into a movie to begin with. Then showing how hard it was to do so with Saving Mr. Banks. But we all can agree that our childhoods and lives wouldn't be the same if the movie didn't exist. Julie Andrews will forever be the original Mary Poppins. And no sequel or reboot will ever top the original movie. But Emily Blunt's performance and the overall movie itself is one deserving admirable recognition. Only thing I really want to know is how she got to know Bert and Jack.
Now I finally understand why drugs happened in the Sixties. There was a showing of this film in Palo Alto California in 1964 with Timothy Leary, Jerry Garcia, Ken Kesey and the ghost of Aldous Huxley in attendance. They drifted up to San Francisco for some munchies after that and the rest, as they say, is history.
Got this from an article on why Julie Andrews was not part of it: "She said, ‘This is Emily’s show, and I really want it to be Emily’s show. I really want her to take this and run with it because she will be brilliant.’
"She sings a whole song about consuming narcotics" 😂😂😭😭💀 and there goes my childhood memory of this movie

This is a great analysis!!
That Darius and Mary Poppins comparison was something I never knew I needed

P.L. Travers: Disney, you'll never use Mary Poppins again. Disney: Hold my beer
