Thank you so much! So glad you loved the tutorial
Clare, your website is so exciting!! I'm finding all sorts of delightful projects I want to make, from flowers to caps to cowgirl hats, etc. Thanks so much for all these videos. I hope to try to use worsted weight yarn for each project, and trust that I'll be able to accomplish a satisfactory result. I'll let you know. Thanks again.
G'day Jean Alford thank you so much!
Happy crochet ❤

Thank you so much, Clare, for sharing this lovely tam pattern. I'm making mine in black acrylic 4 ply, kniting worsted, and looking forward to wearing it in the cold months ahead. Thanks again.
You are very welcome Jean, thank you for choosing my pattern, Hope it doesn't get to cold for you.
Our winters get very cold, but we're also equipped with the necessary clothes. I have since made two more tams of various weights from your lovely pattern. And I've told others of this pattern and site. I'm teaching a neighbour to crochet, and will help her learn to follow your pattern. Thanks again. @@CrochetwithClare
@@jeanalford7020 oh how fun, how is your neighbor going
@@CrochetwithClare She's still too busy with other commitments to take on more crochet lessons, but the time will come when she'll be free to fit it in. Thanks for asking. Merry Christmas, BTW.

Best teacher ever. Totally slayed
G'day Sari Retallack thank you so much for your wonderful feedback
You are an excellent teacher. You can explain in words well, AND I like how you show how to read your work. When you explained how to decrease the last increase you made to get back to where you were--that was awesome! (And, I love the color of your yarn!)
Hello Kris, Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback, so glad you enjoyed the video, happy crochet

I just made this hat with a yarn I am absolutely in love with...but I cannot get more of "ISAAC MIZRAHI CRAFT PREMIER YARN. It is gray with a rainbow sparkly variegated ribbon running through it. This hat was perfect for it. I will post a pic on your facebook page. Thanks for the tutorial!
Awesome !! It sounds soo pretty, have you looked on ebay ?
Always wanted to do one of these but didn't know how to size, I only have a small head. Thanks, I can now give one a go, I have some lovely Red Heart unforgettable wool and I think it will look lovely ! xxx
Great choice on the yarn, so pretty

Thank you! I've been searching for a plain-stitch beret type hat (without any lacey/holey bits!) I've nearly finished my first one and am going to make a few more for Christmas presents :-)
i am so happy you found this hat then

Always welcome
Hi. New subscriber. Love this tutorial, I learned so much.
hello Kenyadda and welcome
Nagyon ügyesvagy sokat tanultam toled köszönöm.
Would like to make the brim tighter,
How to do that please?
Thanks
Hello Brenda, you can use tighter tension or drop down a hook size when doing the brim.
Trying to get into this crocheting thing to make myself a cool scottish tam but the scope of detailed information regarding tools and material in the first 2 minutes is already broader than what I include in orders for wood for building instruments lol
Just love your clear voice - instruction - patterns ! I love this pattern dearly and the more I see, the more I want to do. :-) I have a question - it is the way I hold my yarn. I can't seem to get a "natural" feel to holding my work between 3rd finger and thumb while index finger guides yarn. Took me a while to see that the pinky and index is playing "tension". Any suggestions? Does it get easier later? My fingers feel like they are malfunctioning hahaha :-) Oh - my assumption is that I am not holding my yarn correctly.
When u get to your chain 3, do u Join to the next stitch bc my hat is is getting bigger and I’m not sure if I’m supposed join to the next stitch f the chain 3, please can u explain to me
Thanks
B
hi Brenda, the chain 3 in the beginning of the round does not count as a stitch, so you will be joining into the first actual double crochet of the round and ignoring the chain 3
Thanks and happy happy holidays to u🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲🇨🇦🎅🤶🏻🤶🏻🙏❤️. Prayers for u to feel better!!!
Did u get my pictures that I took of my hat, I think it looks more like a teacosy shape ha lol
How could I add a brim.? Want this for a man with dreadlocks hairstyle. Would this be appropriate do you think. Thank you Claire you have taught me so much. 💐
hi, yes it is a unisex hat. here is a video on how to add a brim. www.crochetwithclare.com/brimpeak.html
I m using this redheart baby love which is 4 ply and using 3.50 hook, it’s already measures 6 inches. I don’t want to increase the hook size as it’s very cold where so I’m going for warmth.
Also I’m only chaining 2 chains instead of 3 at the end bc like u I’m a loose crocheter, I hope that doesn’t affect My diameter!
About how many more rounds do I need to add to fit my head size?
Really sorry to keep asking these questions ❤️❤️❤️🎁
hello Brenda, If you usually stop increasing your crowns at 6", then you can stop your increases and just carry on making one stitch in each stitch until the hat is as long as you like it. to figure this out, you just keep trying it on.
I want to do this but I have so much trouble making the magic ring
Easy to follow thank you!
Thank you for choosing my pattern :)
I just finished watching ur video on the Tam. I guess like all ur videos it gets better after u try them once. This seems a bit complicated. But, I'm going to try it. Looks so nice. One quesrion. Do u have to decrease ,when u do the sc at the last four rounds? I love ur videos . U r such a great teacher. I've been watching u & learning from u for quite a while. When u had 100000 subscribers. U have grown quite a lot. Keep up the great work.
Hello, yes i understand, some pattern look harder than they are. You will only need to do decreases on the sc if you hat needs to be made smaller to fit the person you are making it for
Thank you so much for your continued support
+bobwilson123 Thanks for replying Clair. I've started the Tam since iI send u the text. Its really not as difficult as I thought it would b. My yarn is a little heavier. Red Heart Love. I really love that yarn. I'm going to send u a pic when i finish it. I think it looks good. But, ur the teacher. So I will let u critique it.Lol. Thanks again. Lily Baker
I love how well you teach and show what to purchase etc! Where did you get the cute piggy tape measure? I like it. Keep sending you toto rials much appreciated!

Thank you so much, I think it was a gift, but I have seen them at my local Spotlight craft store
fantastic!
Thank you for watching
bobwilson123 I do not doing inches so I need to know how meaning dc is in each rounds so I can make this hat so please help me
i have a sugar and cream twist yarn its 100% cotton and what can I make with this
Clare I went to red hearts website for patterns like the hat u have made and they had absolutely had no patterns to use. I’m looking for the same style hat but with a tighter weave to keep your head warm, I had a lovely manufactured tam before and I would like that tightness in that hat, how can I get that look?
Thanks
you can make any hat tighter by using smaller stitches and a smaller hook with a worsted weight
Amazing hat :) So sad this yarn was discontinued 😭 do you have any substitute suggestions? Thanks!
Hi Jack, you can use any worsted weight or red heart super saver or DK/8ply that you like. The written pattern is on the website.
Hello, I want to thank you so much for such wonderful videos. They are very easy to follow. I have a question with this hat. I'm crocheting one for me. On the increase round of 4 dc in the single stitch then the 2 dc in the one stitch. When I get close to the end, after I did my 2 dc in the stitch I only have 3 stitches to finish the row. I cannot figure out why. I went through each stitch to make sure the pattern is correct at least 5 times and I still cannot figure it out. Therefore, I did 1 dc in the next 2 stitches and then the 2 dc in the last stitch. Can you assist me with that row? I'm going to continue to see how it turns out, but if it doesn't work I will take it out and hopefully you will have a response for me. Thanks again for your wonderful work.
Hello, you are very welcome and thank you for watching my videos
There must be an error somewhere, because your stitches are not working out, but you can do what you said and it should still work out if that is you last increase round
You may have to fudge your decrease round but it will still look great :)
I did and it turned out great. I love this project and thank you so much again....YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!
I don’t want to make a slouch hat, just a plain beret, no slouch hat, how do I do that? Please thanks. B
Brenda, all you need to do is less regular rounds to make it a beret. I would maybe just add rounds until it reaches the tops of your ears before you start the brim and see how that goes
I got to the part where the hat measures 8 in in diameter but I don’t understand what you do next. You said you added 3 in more in height but how? Are you still increasing ???
hello Bonnie, no I stopped making increase rounds and just made one stitch into each stitch until my hat got the height I wanted.
@@CrochetwithClare when you build it up and come to the end of a round, assuming using
Double stitch,do you have to have to chain 3?
@@bonnieca3199 you aren't chaining at the end of any rounds. you chain at the beginning of rounds. if you are doing a double crochet then yes you chain 3
Clsre!
Just thought I would let you know that I have been working with the written pattern and on step six where you have 4 dc then an increase there is a typo. You say ch3, idc in same st then dc in next 2 sts ( Ibelieve it should say next 3 sts). I watched the video to make sure. Hope this helps. Rebecca
YES !!!! Thank you for spotting that :) You got it correct, thank you !
There was also an error on the next round, so thanks again for letting me know, happy crochet
Hello! I've followed your videos for a while now but this is my first time commenting on one.
A very sweet little girl has asked me to make her a hat. She's 8 years old. Since we live in Indiana I'd like to use two strands of yarn. Will this pattern work with two strands?
(I'll most likely be using Red Heart Super Saver 4 ply worsted weight.)
Thank you so much for your wonderful videos!
Roberta Albright u
If I wanted to work this in HALF Double Crochet would I simply make 2 rows for each one of your Double Crochet? Thank you :)
yes you can totally make this in hdc. you are correct you would just make double the amount of rows than you would with double crochet
After the first round of decrease if we need to do a second round how does that work ?
Continue like the row before except this time you will have 1 less stitch between you decreases :)
How to make it bigger for longer dreads ?
If you need to make it wider, add more increase rounds.
If you want it longer, add more rounds of stitches
Do u have a written pattern for this???
Thanks
hello Brenda, yes I have a written pattern for this hat. www.bobwilson123.org/tam-hat.html
For the future as well, you can find all of my written patterns in the description box of each video or on my website. Happy Crochet!
Just checking to see if u replied Clair.
So happy that you were able to get the pattern and thank you for watching
Like this pattern. It was a little confusing to get the millimeters and centimeters at first.
Hey Claire what size head does this hat fit please
Hello, if you follow the video with 8pl/DK yarn and a 4mm/G hook it will fit an adult
In the video I will show you how to make it and make it the size you need
This is for adult?
Hello, yes this can be made for a baby all the way up to adults
But how do I decrease the hat?
the video shows you how and where to decrease
Oh ok thanks
@@jackieBarnesjaylob please let me know if you get stuck
Can someone tell me the process in the words?
you can find the written pattern here www.bobwilson123.org/tam-hat.html
I'm totally confused with so many numbers
where are you confused? this is basically just a plain beanie made wider for the slouch effect. I might be able to help wherever you are getting stuck.
First!!!!
Whooop !
this is confusing!!
Sorry about that, where are you confused ?
