1914 on Christmas day. On the western front the guns all died away and lying in the mud on bags of sand. We heard a German sing from no man's land. He had a tenor voice so pure and true. The words were strange but every note we knew. Soaring or the living dead and dammed, the Germans sang of peace from no man's land. They left their trenches and we left ours. Beneath tin hats smiles bloomed like wild flowers with photos, cigarettes and tons of wine. We built a soldier's truce on the front line, their singer was a lad of twenty one. We begged another song before the dawn. And sitting in the mud with blood and fear, he sang again the song all longed to hear. Silent night, no cannons roar. A king is born of peace for evermore. All's calm, all's bright. All brothers hand in hand. It's gas and rusty wire in no man's land. And in the morning all the guns boomed in the rain. And we killed them and they killed us again with Bayonet, bullet gas, bomb and flame. And neither we nor they at all to blame. There was heavy fighting throughout the day, for one night's peace we bloodyly did pay, that night they charged we fought them hand to hand. And I killed the boy that sang in no man's land. Silent night, no cannons roar. A king is born of peace for evermore. All's calm, All's bright. All brothers hand in hand. And that young soldier sings. And the song of peace still rings. Though the captains and all kings, Built in no man's land. Sleep in heavenly peace.
"For one day, one Christmas, a very long time ago, everyone just put down their weapons, and started to sing. Everybody just stopped. Everyone was just kind."

My great grandfather was a captain in WW2. He got 2 Purple Hearts because he evacuated a Jewish family in hiding from the Nazi and also survived a stab to the back of his neck from a Nazi while playing dead (was paralyzed on his entire left side ( I believe ) and his pictures include him with his cane. Miraculously he regained consciousness of the paralyzed side of his body. Thank you Great grandpa, I know the country did not become what you thought it would have or perhaps it was not the country you thought you were fighting for, but I appreciate you and all the men in our family line who joined and fought in the army. I love you so much even though I never met you and you have my greatest respects, as does every single American soldier who fought in WW2.
My great-grandmother had to leave Italy because of the Nazis in 1943, they were strong and managed to escape to Brazil and this story is passed down from generation to generation.
For those of you, you don’t know who don’t know the Christmas truce of 1913 was in event in germans couldn’t find a Christmas tree so they snuck past no man’s land to get one. They also realize that they wanted some alcohol so then they tried stealing one from the French when the French realize that the Germans were Germans they didn’t care they just gave them the alcohol and let them leave freely the next day both France and Germans came out of their trenches and made a truce for Christmas and that time of the truce they built snowman they drink together they had snowball fights and and so forth. This is how powerful Christmas is.
It gives goosebumps every time. Once my grandfather said we were not happy that how many enemies we killed, deep down we were sad for the mother who was waiting for their child for long. He told me many things what happens between the politicians and they had to just follow there command.😢

Yeah thats what hurts me,that without the soldiers, the politicians are NOTHING so if the world just wakes up and ppl stop listening to orders from politicians, then we would be at peace bc the politicians cant do anything
Humans are humans, wars are fought under command. That doesn’t mean the ones fighting eachother are enemies

Words by gk Chesterton
I mean that's not true. As a soldier, ideally you do dislike what is in front as well. Otherwise you are fighting in a war for no reason.
That's not true soldiers are taught to hate their enemy and not see them as human but beasts a true soldier hates his enemy I know this because I served in the military
We studied this movie in our school its name is 'The best christmas present in the world' ❤
My great grandpa fought in the war and actually survived, even tho I was not born when he passed away, my mum still tells stories of him and that makes me happy that one of how family members served in the war for our country so it can still be a happy place ❤🥹

May your great grandfather's soul rest in peace
Not just every american soldier every soldier.
We dont even have to talk about the things that happened in the Rheinwiesenlager.

My great-grandmother had to leave Italy because of the Nazis in 1943, they were strong and managed to escape to Brazil and this story is passed down from generation to generation.
It's a shame how this country disrespects the sacrifices of our ancestors
There is no greater example of not fighting because you hate who is in front of you, but because of who you love behind you

Time when Christmas meant true peace for everybody...
What's sad is the next day they went back to killing each other..
The war began in 1914
