  • Part 2 of our main train station build consists of four areas. The Newspaper shop is the most modern alteration to this old building with sliding doors and lavender signage and furnishings, the grand pillared and arched central lobby links all the areas together, the ticket office has the staircase to the second floor and several modern ticket machines, and the platform has large roof awnings and plentiful seating. Be sure to watch Part 3!

    Few thoughts to ponder. 1) Yes feel you need your spinner thing (for tickets). Suggest adding a short wall just as you exit your news store on the platform and extend to the yellow column of your seating area. Wall would need to run back to the building to separate your platform from the station (paid and non paid passengers). Then add the spinner thing in the middle of this wall, wall will allow for additional advertising. Suggest one or two bricks high on the wall and then add the short height fence on wall. That way top of wall is slightly see thru..
    2) Yes tile the platform floor. As an old building should have a fancy tile floor. Something like the Grand Emporium.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooh, that would be a fancy floor. Not sure if I have enough 1x1s!

    I think that the platform looks fine without tiles. It gives it the concrete texture of most stations. I think that you should add the ticket barriers anyway. It's also kind of realistic that you can bi-pas them, e.g: in some tube stations, if you take the lift, you don't go through the barriers.🚊🚉

    Looks great. Think I would move the news stand door from the platform, replace it with a window. Then put the door inside the hall to enclose the shop from the hall and you could then have the ticket barriers on the platform, without the shortcut through the shop.

    Awesome idea of combining a little of everything from each of the past lego train stations! I wouldn't tile the platform it adds to the aesthetic of the old look, but maybe you could tile the inside of the station with an old look, kinda like your pawn brokers shop that you did. For the turnstyle, It does add to the look but then if you want to use it fully you may have to remove the doorway going out to the platform from the newspaper shop. I thought maybe also if not the turnstyle, maybe do a revolving door like from the lego city airport sets 3182 or 60104. I do like the turnstyle idea though, for the front, instead of the hanging flowers maybe put lighting in those spots facing up and down to give the look the front being lit up. I really like the amended ticket machines. Changing the tile piece using the stickers from the hidden side set really looks alot better and more train station legit. I can't wait to see the rest of this!!! Great job Robin! Awesome video!

    I really enjoy the way that your buildings all have the classic look and the modern add-ons. The news shop is fantastic and the color red to the doors and white news window does a great job making it feel like its own end of the station. I think the turnstile is great at keeping the older feel but does not go with the wheelchair access to the front of the building so maybe and updated one that has a larger opening so they would not have to use the news shop door every time. And I don't think you have to plate every surface that is down because this is a lego city and needs some lego cement. So as always thank you for sharing. You have a great station and I am really am excited to see how it goes forward.

  • @Craigmt12
    @Craigmt12 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Loving the station so far and the fact it's been inspired by previous Lego releases. When I saw the yellow bricks last time I had some suspicion about the inspiration.
    No need to tile, don't think it would add much, will depend on what the edge of platform hazard stripe looks like on its own as without a fully tiled platform it could be it's own tripping hazard.
    I wouldn't have the turnstiles either. The barriers at Newark station are regularly open.
    Don't mind the longer videos at the moment. Keep up the great work!

    Really like the classic look mixed with some modern upgrades, as most train stations are just modernized and not completely rebuilt. Nice job keeping the classic LEGO city train station color as well! I vote for tiles on the platform to coincide with the rest of the city, it can go along with one of the “modern upgrades.” I also vote for no turn stile. Great progress on the station, I like the feeling that the building has evolved over time and been altered to accommodate new additions. Great update. I agree, don't tile the station (at least not in grey) as I think it'll distract from all the other details. The turnstile is a nice idea, but a bit bulky and looks a little basic compared with the rest of the features.
    One suggestion: replace the orange and red bikes with some of different colours, otherwise they just match the building and are not as noticeable. It's an opportunity to bring in other colours to diversify the look👍

    This is going to be absolutely brilliant. 😍
    I think you can definitely get rid of the turnstiles, looks quite old fashioned to me and breaks the nice perspective and openness of the lobby. Although your tickets machines look very nice, the station misses a real ticket desk... Or at least some kind of station's chief office to manage the place and help your passengers. Maybe on second floor? As another subscriber, seems important to me to add some lights (I would have placed some lampposts on the front of the building instead of flowers). Finally, tiling is always the right choice. 😉

      The real station had no ticket counter now. I'm not sure there's room. I agree about keeping the middle open. I will add lamp posts to all my streets at some point. I'm putting it off!

    I think an arrivals/departures board would look great. Also I'm for tiling the platform but rather than a blanket of tiles, perhaps some strips of differing tiles, a strip of studs, a strip of anti-slip, a stripe - just to break it up - just thinking of my own local station platform. Loving it so far though.

    Yep, this is great. To be honest, as you were making the newsagents I was underwhelmed as looked like a McDonald's, but the build as a whole really came together and I love it. If you decide to tile the platform, try to break it up with the odd floor pattern as otherwise I agree just grey tiling could be a waste of money

    I think when you tile the platform the whole station needs to be raised one plate. Otherwise the doorsteps will be one plate low. So maybe better to leave it like it is. Maybe you can lower the yellow grill pieces one plate so they will be level with the platform.
    And I think you should add the turnthingiemabob and make the entrance to the shop from the platform a oneway doorway. (Or just say it is a oneway)

    Really smart stylings with this MOC/mashup, especially the 1x6 round column pieces. I do think the hanging baskets would look better hanging down. If you’ve got anymore of the black claw pieces that you’ve used for the handrails you could push that into the flower piece and then clip that to a short bar in the modified brick. Other than that it’s a really nice homage to the older train sets of the 80’s/90’s. 👍🏻👍🏻 (feedback regarding tiling the platform, I think you should leave it as studs. You often get tactile flooring for the blind or non slip so I don’t think it will stand out.

    I think they should be tiled. My suggestion to avoid plain surfaces is to make mosaics out of coloured tiles. I use that on my pavements in my city. A little 2x2 tile or something with 1x1s diagonally jutting out from each corner in a contrasting colour to the 2x2 is a good example, though you might want something bigger.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely can't be one uniform colour. The only problem is what colours I actually have, especially for the 1x1s!

  • @DanielleGhost

    We are loving how the build is coming together!
    Mark and I think the foyer should have tile but the platform should be untiled.
    No turnstiles. (Although I think it would be a funny scene to have a turnstile jumper. 🤔)
    Mark suggests a column in the rear opening to mirror the front.
    I would suggest switching out the yellow flowers as they are getting lost in the build color.

    You should ad smaller modern glass gates as an entry like many dutch train stations have

  • @matthewbrooks9502
    @matthewbrooks9502 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So this build is interesting to me - in some ways it seems a bit simplistic, which also may be a good thing. I recently noted a train station build done by Bevins Bricks which is huge and ornate. But then you look at the style that Jang did with both his stations, and it's more in line with your style, Robin. I think the classic yellow works well (and the red shop windows offsets that well). I like the idea of having some kind of controlled gate thing but yeah, the open newsstand shop does complicate that a bit. That new sticker for the ticket machines is fantastic - i'm actually thinking of putting that sheet on my wanted list now too! As for tiling - I have mixed views. I like the look of a smooth tiled floor for sure but it might clash with the internal part of the station. tough to say!

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      An enclosed ornate station would be lovely but it'd take too much space and we'd not be able to see all the fun station scenes as easily!

    Hi Robin, lovely station, but my mother (she started watching with me about half way the vid) asked if there will be some toilets in the building? btw I love the influence of all those different station sets! Never knew there where so many different yellow ones! Personally I would not include the turning entrances because they seem to be a bit 'heavy' and where I live these things are only used for the subway system. In train stations you can walk freely in and out, often even with a seperate entrance straight to the tracks.

    • @RobinHoodBricks
      @RobinHoodBricks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    With regards to the turnstile, what happens in the station near my house (where they encountered a similar issue with the shop) is that they added the turnstile as normal, and then split the shop in half, to avoid people crossing over. Then again, in the UK, certain stations don't have them (e. g. York Station)
