As a citizen of Daejeon, I'll explain this further. Sung Sim Dang is a bakery that was founded during the Korean War(50s). For the past 70 years, the bakery and its owner experienced a lot of turmoils but managed to become a nationwide famous bakery. They produce quality breads and desserts at a very affordable price. Also, they donate breads to local orphanages daily. A thing called "Twi-So(Fried Soboro)" is very popular nationwide cause one of their shops is located in Daejeon Station (Daejeon plays a pivotal role in rail transportation and a lot of travelers use Daejeon Station). Living in Daejeon is quite peaceful but there are few places to visit and hang out. And because of this, my city is often called "No Fun" city. But since Sung Sim Dang is famous nationwide, it became a thing that represents Daejeon.
Yep. There are too few k-dramas set outside the Sudogwon, and most of them are either in Jeju or the fishing villages near Pohang. It would be nice to see one set in other cities like Busan and Daegu.
Surprising fact: The North Korean military requires at least 10 years of service to be discharged, but the South Korean military requires only 2 years of service to be discharged.
As a Korean I can say some of the song selections are hilarous... how on earth would you know information that is so specific... there is so much you can google.
Explanation for those who don't know 2:41 The reason why pictures of North Korean troops are drawn in Jeolla-do is because it is a region with very strong pro-North, anti-Japanese, and anti-American tendencies and supports communism. 2:08 The reason why there is a Japanese flag in Gyeongsangbuk-do is because it is a region with strong pro-Japanese, pro-American, and anti-communist tendencies. The two regions are so drastically different that they fight every day.
one month late but here is my explanation (to the best of my abilities) The North 0:01 Chagang : It's a very mountainous and cold province, and predictably very impoverished. I've heard that the inhabitants here are especially loyal to the NK regime, hence the propaganda music. 0:07 Hamgyong : Again, very mountainous and cold, but with important port and industry cities. Due to agriculture being somewhat unfavorable here, the economy is more based on industry and fishing. 0:13 Hwanghae : Extremely agricultural and rural, this is the 'breadbasket' of north korea. As the province closest to the south, it holds a lot of military significance for the regime as well. 0:20 Kaesong : One of the four 'special cities' of NK. Steeped in a lot of history and tradition as it was once a capital of a medieval kingdom. More urban and industrial, between 2002 and 2016 it was home to a north-south joint collaboration industrial complex. 0:27 Kangwon : Extremely mountainous, isolated, and traditional. Kangwon is famous for its natural beauty and its main industry is tourism (i think the background photo is a hotel) Similarly to hwanghae, the military guy is there because of the proximity to the DMZ i think. 0:33 Nampo : Another 'special city', Nampo is the main port to Pyongyang. It deals most of NK's trade with China, hence the guy on the right. 0:39 Pyongan : Not much to say here, Pyongan tends to be a bit more urban than the other provinces. Just a quintessential NK region. 0:46 Pyongyang : A bit self-explanatory lol. Biggest city with all the communist elites. That Kim Jongun wojak is horrifying.. ack 0:53 Rason : A gateway to China and Russia. This city is actually a designated 'free trade zone', so it has a lot of foreign (mostly chinese) investment. Note the music lol 1:00 Ryanggang : Actually the coldest, most poorest region in the peninsula. Very mountainous and a lot of Chinese funded mines here apparently. 1:07 DMZ : Self explanatory. The South 1:14 Busan : Second biggest city, massive port. The wojak on the left refers to the baseball team the Lotte Giants, as baseball is huge in the city. The guy singing in the background was SK's biggest star in the 90s and was from Busan. 1:21 North Chungcheong : More agricultural, and the city Chungju is famous for apples. Both Chungcheong regions are famous for having laid back people. 1:28 South Chungcheong : A bit rural and traditional. The Korean army training center is located here, hence the military guy. 1:34 Daegu : A big inland city in the southeast. Historically rich and conservative. A bit of a reputation for gang activity, although imo much of it is exaggerated 1:40 Daejeon : A transportation hub city in the middle of the country. Also a city of science, as KAIST, the biggest tech institution in SK is located here. Daejeon is also demographically a very young city with a lot of students and 30s people as well. Overall very goated city (I live here). goated song too. 1:47 Gangwon : Mountainous, agricultural, and rural. A lot of people go here to hike in the mountains. Due to the proximity to the DMZ a lot of military units are holed up in the hills here. 1:54 Gwangju : Big inland city in the southwest. Old people here are very liberal leaning as they spearheaded the democratization movements in the 70s 80s. Has connections with the rural and traditional Jeolla countryside. Also a demographically young city, like Daejeon. 2:01 Gyeonggi : Most populous province in the list and also Seoul's massive suburb. A lot of people are middle class salarymen and commuters to seoul. The cityscape is a mix of cozy apartment suburbs and flashy blocs of cyberpunk. The band playing in the background is from here and is famous for their cozy retro 90s suburban soundscape. 2:07 North Gyeongsang : Most rural province in SK. Extremely conservative-leaning, hence the japanese larper (the conservative faction of SK tends to have a pro-japanese view of diplomacy). Also unmarried middle-aged men here commonly marry brides from SE Asia. 2:13 South Gyeongsang : Some coastal cities/busan suburbs, more rural inland. Due to low birthrates, both Gyeongsang regions have a very aged population. A lot of fishing goes on here due to the proximity to the sea, especially on the southern coast. 2:20 Incheon : The main port to Seoul. Songdo is a super futuristic district full of highrises. There's a deep historic Chinese presence, and the Chinatown in here is the biggest in SK. The biggest airport in korea is also located here, hence the tourists. Incheon also used to have a reputation for criminal activity, although things are a lot better now. 2:27 Jeju : Subtropical volcatic island, the 'Hawaii of Korea'. Famous for its citrus fruits. People from the mainland flock here during the holidays. 2:33 North Jeolla : Traditional, rural, agricultural. The city of Jeonju has a well preserved historic quarter. 2:40 South Jeolla : Both Jeolla regions are VERY politically liberal, and the right likes to slander these provinces as 'communist'. idk what the guy on the left is supposed to represent 2:46 Sejong : In the 2000s the gov created Sejong as an alternative capital to counter the growth of Seoul. As it stands Sejong rn is mostly an empty and boring city full of commuters and government workers. 2:53 Seoul : Pretty self explanatory, imo Seoul is so big that its districts deserve a separate video. Kpop, neon signs, the societal elite, and whatnot 3:00 Ulsan : The biggest industrial city of SK and the third biggest port. A lot of heavy industry and businesses here, very middle class. Otherwise Ulsan a pretty boring city,
Great explanation. No wonder many Koreans in the comments said this vid describes the stereotypes well. I'm still wondering about Sejong. I know it's mostly empty city, since I heard even the government hesitated to fully move there, and theres no other activity there, even no big companies. But why the song is New Millenium gymnastic? I heard Koreans familiar with it since elementary school, but idk why it relates to Sejong
@@adiabd1my guess is that the general timbre and context of the song gives it a connotation with the government, and since sejong is a government project it seems pretty fitting.
Daejeon being a major transportation hub is also the main reason why the headquarters of Korean Railways is located there, right beside Daejeon Railway Station.

The third song is 천안 삼거리 (Cheonan Three-way-junction), a Korean folk song. Cheonan is a city in South Chungcheong province, so that's why it is included ig.
Seoul: The largest and most developed metropolitan area in Korea, with people from various regions. Young Koreans are moving to Seoul and Gyeonggi-do in search of jobs, and other korean provinces are continuing to decline. Incheon and Gyeonggi-do have developed due to new cities built to disperse the population of Seoul. Western Seoul and Incheon are not pleasant and have bad public safety. Gangwon-do: Due to its mountainous and rugged terrain, the population is small and nature is well preserved. The eastern part of Gangwon-do receives a lot of snow and shares the dialect and political inclinations of the Gyeongsang-do region. Chungcheong-do: It is close to Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, so it is a transit point for transportation, and has recently developed along with the metropolitan area. It has a neutral and docile regional character. Gyeongsang-do: Due to its isolated terrain with mountains, it has a unique dialect and culture, and there is a stereotype that it is rustic, old, and tough. In reality, the people actually have strong personalities. The politics are the most conservative, and the food is spicy and salty. Gyeongsangbuk-do is a very underdeveloped rural area. This is especially true in the northern region. Gyeongsangnam-do has many large cities developed along the coast and has a large influx of outsiders. Jeolla-do: Similar to Gyeongsang-do, but also a rival. It is not as developed as Gyeongsang-do, so most of the population leaves for Seoul and has a small population. It has the opposite political inclination to Gyeongsang-do and most of the time they are in conflict because of politics. Another difference is that Gyeongsang-do has many mountains, while this area has plains. Gyeongsang-do does not have snow in the winter, but this area has snow often. The commonalities with Gyeongsang-do are a strong personality, spicy and salty food, and rustic rural life. This is especially true for Jeollanam-do. Jeollabuk-do is adjacent to Chungcheong-do, so it has a more docile personality and less stimulating food than Jeollanam-do. Sinan in Jeollanam-do is famous as the most dangerous area in Korea due to serious kidnapping and crime problems. It is a blind spot in terms of safety due to its isolated island terrain and corrupt police who collude with locals. Jeju-do: It is famous as a tourist destination for its unique and exotic natural environment. All Korean tangerines are grown in Jeju Island. They speak a very unique dialect similar to Jeollanam-do and Gyeongsangnam-do. Unlike the other two, the food is bland because it is difficult to obtain salt.
From this video all I can say is that I have seen that most advanced Cities in South Korea are dangerously close to North Korea except for Busan, and that’s bad news
Gyeongsang Province is the most conservative region in Korea. It is like Texas... That is why Korean leftists often criticize Gyeongsang Province as a pro-Japanese region
@@user-ho5vn9ev7y Korean ‘conservatism’ is very different from western conservatism. For one a conservative is the one that is ethnicentrist, but S Korean ‘conservatives’ preach commie values saying that ethnicity is a social construct.

Yes. South Korea is a very corporative country. Each region is dominated by a certain conglomerate, and the economy of that region is determined by the will of the chabol. For example, Gwangju is the feudal territory of KIA, Ulsan is dominated by Hyundai, and Samsung dominates Gyeonggi. The democratically elected mayors of each region often visit and bow to their own dominant corporations. The only area that is not under corporate control is Sejong. They are special territories directly controlled by the South Korean government, not by the corporations.
Damn, it's genius to make one video (instead of two) for both Koreas, because they have the same people, they've been together for years, and they have the same language. Eh, I would like these countries to unite, and the people of both Koreas to live together. By the way, you approached this matter realistically, making North Koreans thin and stunted (I even feel sorry for them 😢), and some South Koreans - whiter (who doesn’t know, in South Korea there is a fashion for whitening skin) and prettier. 1:07 You even made a demilitarized zone! 😃 Which means your content is high quality and detailed!
Not sure where you derive ‘whitening’ from. Korea is a very cold and hot country at the same time so people tan easily and whiten easily naturally. People who use creams just keep their natural winter whites in the summer as well.
One part, with the coolest marching songs and the other, with flags looking like companies. Love South Korea... and North Korea somehow too from Spain 🇪🇦❤️🇰🇷 🇪🇦❓❤️🇰🇵 Long live our beloved little overweight bomb man 🥰
Living in the county of Korea, not having a car is a huge inconvenience. You have to take taxi to move around and If you want to go to other regions or cities, you have to take a bus, but the cities you can go to are very limited. However, Seoul is the opposite, It's inconvenient to moving by car because there are so many cars and traffic congestion is horrible. On the contrary, the subway system is well developed. Anyway I want to get a car as soon as possible

Explanation for those who don't know
2:41 The reason why pictures of North Korean troops are drawn in Jeolla-do is because it is a region with very strong pro-North, anti-Japanese, and anti-American tendencies and supports communism.
2:08 The reason why there is a Japanese flag in Gyeongsangbuk-do is because it is a region with strong pro-Japanese, pro-American, and anti-communist tendencies.
The two regions are so drastically different that they fight every day.
Uhhhhh.... I don't think we fight everyday?
Jeolla is pro NK and anti Japanese, but it is not Anti US. Korean left is also pro US so what is this talking about?

one month late but here is my explanation (to the best of my abilities)
The North
0:01 Chagang : It's a very mountainous and cold province, and predictably very impoverished.
That Kim Jongun wojak is horrifying.. ack
0:53 Rason : A gateway to China and Russia. This city is actually a designated 'free trade zone', so it has a lot of foreign (mostly chinese) investment. Note the music lol
1:00 Ryanggang : Actually the coldest, most poorest region in the peninsula. Very mountainous and a lot of Chinese funded mines here apparently.
1:07 DMZ : Self explanatory.
The South
1:14 Busan : Second biggest city, massive port.
A bit of a reputation for gang activity, although imo much of it is exaggerated
1:40 Daejeon : A transportation hub city in the middle of the country.
2:40 South Jeolla : Both Jeolla regions are VERY politically liberal, and the right likes to slander these provinces as 'communist'. idk what the guy on the left is supposed to represent
2:46 Sejong : In the 2000s the gov created Sejong as an alternative capital to counter the growth of Seoul. As it stands Sejong rn is mostly an empty and boring city full of commuters and government workers.
2:53 Seoul : Pretty self explanatory, imo Seoul is so big that its districts deserve a separate video. Kpop, neon signs, the societal elite, and whatnot
3:00 Ulsan : The biggest industrial city of SK and the third biggest port. A lot of heavy industry and businesses here, very middle class. Otherwise Ulsan a pretty boring city,
This should be pinned as top comment.
I guess the guy on the left on 2:40 represent climbers who visit Jirisan national park
Crazy how one single line would create two different dystopias.
South Korea is as much of a dystopia as Japan is
TH-cam videos exaggerate a lot(shocking)
Why is it a dystopia? Not sure why you think SK is worse than any other first world country.

Its because S Koreans suddenly became perfectionist and just not have children when any of the financial or emotional conditions are not met. Not having children philosophy is a big trend, because they choose to have fun and lose responsibility and work of having a child.
S Korea is a serious case of too little birthrate, but the rest of the world in general should at least be about as Japan in birthrate, why is it a bad thing? Too much people in this world.
