    • @sel8620
      @sel8620 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@BenefitCounterbench You can speak with an accent in any voice range tho. My sister has a very low voice, often mistaken for a guy just by her voice, but she has the standard accent and she just speaks that way cuz she was born in Seoul. For example, in English, there are different accents, and no matter what your voice is like, your accents are there. You don't have to change your voice, just the intonations. I don't know if you're Korean, but if you speak Korean fluently, its just about the intonations.

      You can answer a question I had then - do they only speak this dialect, or do they switch back and forth? I can imagine it beigg really difficult for visitors even just from the Korean mainland to get by, but as I understand it Jeju is a popular place to visit... Do they speak "regular" korean when people are visiting, or do they speak it in everyday life as well and the dialect is just here and there?

A lot of young people there don't use their dialect anymore and it is only found in older generations.

      You should consider going to Korea to learn Korean :)) the best way to learn a language is to be surrounded by the language you want to improve and the easiest and the most effective way to surround yourself will be actually going to the country where the language is mainly spoken by its people!
      I came to Canada 4 years ago without knowing word of English, but people can't tell that I'm not from here with my accent now. Well, it was hard at first but as I picked up more of the language, I got more confidence, and it lead me to boost my language learning process! and I got confidence when I learned Japanese and Spanish afterwards haha. It will take a while but just hang in there and keep try!! I wish you the best luck and if you have any questions about Korea or language learning I'm willing to help you happily :)

    • @jessicah9311
      @jessicah9311 8 ปีที่แล้ว +89

      Tony Will It can happen easily. I grew up in a small town in southern Saskatchewan. The town was built in a valley surrounded by a river with flatter farm land on one side and a 'bench' on the other. The bench was basically a much higher elevation of land with an abrupt drop. Up there there were more cattle ranches because the land was drier and such. People in town spoke pretty normal Canadian English, the farmers had Saskatchewan terms and such (corner gas like speech) and the bench had a strange slightly slurred way of talking with a mixture of words that were only used in the area. I lived just below the bench and knew and hung out with kids from the bench so I actually spoke this way. Even today I'll talk to my husband and he'll say my 'accent' is strong today. That happened in a small town so it happening in Korea is 100% possible

    1:39 Actually it depends on the word. Even Koreans don't know the exact usage of this pronounciation.
    But one thing: it's very limited. 아파 -> 아퍼, 알아 -> 알어, 있잖아 -> 있잖어, 말아 -> 말어 etc.
    This is very subtle difference, and it is usually neglected.
    We never say something like "배 고파 (I'm hungry)" to "배 고퍼".
    Also it NEVER happens in one-letter endings, such as "하지 마 (don't do that)" to "하지 머" or "그냥 가 (just go)" to "그냥 거".
    And sometimes we say ㅏ to ㅜ, like "몰라 (Idk)" to "몰러" or even "몰루". (This is quite obsolete or otaku-usage though)
    And Gyeonggi dialect has another changes: ㅓ -> ㅡ changes such as
    "거지 (beggar) -> 그(으)지", "어디 -> 으디".
    And it only happens in the end of the sentence.
    2:38 Gyeongsang people always come back home and say "디다 (I'm exhausted)"
    At least my roommates did
    And real Gyeongsang people have the halved version of that conversation which completely makes sense.
    (밥 -> 거 -> 아는 (는 is really short: It's between 안 and 아는) -> 잔다 -> (Points to the bed) -> 불)
    4:34 정낭 means "Seminal vesicle" in Korean LOL
    Actually I don't know correctly too. Korean is a real hard one.
