I am Japanese I'm sorry if it's hard to convey because I'm using the translation function. Thank you for your interest in Japanese culture and concepts like "musubi" I don't think it's explained in detail in the English translation, so it's a supplement about the twilight that appeared in the work. In this work, the word "kataware-doki" is used as a dialect in the area where Mitsuha lives. ※「doki=Time」 "Kataware-doki" This word itself is a coined word in the movie. This is very similar to the sound of "kawatare-doki" which represents dusk, but if you write "Kataware-doki" in kanji, it will be "片割れ = one half" This does not mean just half, but it means a partner, a couple, or a partner of destiny. I would be happy if Sarah and the others could enjoy playing Japanese words again this time like "hinata's sun and tukki's moon"! I'm also looking forward to the 3rdpart.
That is so cool. On one hand you can interpret it to mean the time when two parts of the day (day and night) meet, and on the other hand you can read it as "time for the meeting of two partners" which is exactly what you think it means 10/10
Part 2 was great as always! I will once again refrain from saying any spoilers, but I can comment a bit more on some of the really fine details from part 1 and 2! Your statement about "If you 're going on a date you shouldn't be calling her "Miss" anymore"-- I think that's simply a lack of English honorifics making it hard to translate. He was calling her by her name with an honorific which would still be something you would be doing at the dating stage, but it would be less formal in Japanese than it sounds in English to say Miss. So mostly, it's just hard to subtitle. You guys had some fantastic speculation in the middle of this, I love how invested you are. Adam is right, this film is full of left hooks that just leave you on the edge of your seat. When I mentioned details, if you pause exactly right when they are looking at the dates on their phones you can see that they aren't the same day of the week in the phones. On one of their phones it's Monday Sept 12th, on the other one's phone it's Thursday Sept 12th. It's offset by 3 days because each year a given date will shift by one day of the week, so Monday-Thursday means 3 years difference. NOBODY catches that on their first viewing because there's so much going on, and they only flash them checking their phone calendars for a second each, but it really shows the commitment to small details. I believe that is also why Taki (when he was in Mitsuha's body) dressed for school on the day they hiked up the mountain, because for him it was supposed to be wednesday or thursday and for them it was saturday or sunday. There are also several times where Taki makes a confused noise whenever someone mentions the comet, either in mitsuha's notes to him or when he is in her body and someone else mentions it. You guys also keyed in on some of their mannerisms when they are in each others' bodies, and there are several. As you noted, Taki wears Mitsuha's hair in a ponytail, almost certainly because he doesn't know what else to do with it. He's cocky, has more open postures which causes skirt incidents, and probably didn't think to wear a sports bra during the basketball scene. Mitsuha on the other hand tends to run very daintily and not like an athlete, sits with her legs together more like a girl, and overall has much more closed posture. The lack of hair style difference certainly makes it a bit harder to tell at a glance though haha. I'm eagerly awaiting part 3! Truly, I love this movie and I love that you guys are loving it too.

no waaaayy you end it there 😭😭 I thought this was the final part 😂 I'm really loving your commentary and appreciation about this movie in particular, about the characters and also the cultural and artistic side of it
Okay so this is for the inevitable rewatch, but just as you can tell when Taki is in Mitsuha's body because he can't tie the thread around her hair, you too can tell when Mitsuha is in Taki's body because she doesn't wear the bracelet.
Sarah and Adam are on top of it with the predictions and catching the little details especially when you consider that they're not super familiar with anime tropes! Don't worry Sarah that level of panic is pretty normal once you piece together how the story is unfolding I have friends who were crying in the theater left and right when it first came out!

Yeah, when the question was asked I was thinking to myself, “How can I answer this without sounding patronising? It’s ramen… from Takayama”. Usually only available in the Hida area (and a few exclusive places like the ramen museum in Yokohama), except when this movie came out and suddenly every convenience store was selling “Instant Takayama Ramen”!

My daughter had us watch this movie last week when she was home and it hit hard. All the feels. A little confusing at the start but I think a second watching brings out details I missed. She is an animator and agreed the animation on this is stunning. So beautifully done and the story so poignant and powerful. Enjoying watching your reactions to it!
Thank you again for the reaction, looking forward to Part 3. Another quick tidbit - this time specifically about Your Name. This is one of his first films that used imagery harking to a disaster that actually happened, namely the 2011 Tohoku Earthquake. I watched the film with a few of my buddies in Japan when it was first released in 2016, and the connection was not lost to a single one of us even if there was no plot or story element that explicitly refers to it. Speaking more broadly, the worlds that Shinkai would craft used to be very vague, fantastical and almost disconnected from the drama of the characters. This time around, it's very obvious that a specific disaster is separating the characters and a specific miracle allowed them to encounter each other anyway - though the connection to the real-life disaster is a simile at best. It still takes a few more films until he actually addresses the real-life tragedies and integrate them as part of the story. Also if you two have the chance, please also check out Garden of Words. It really is a masterpiece for how short it is.
Seconding Garden of Words! It's been a while since I've watched it, so I don't really remember the plot, but I remember it being such a beautiful movie. Both in the plot, and in the animations and sceneries.
When I first watched this, it was in a movie theater when I was in college and didn't have classes that day. So it was me and I think one other person in there. I had gotten completely immersed and I remember vividly at 20:04 when my heart just dropped to my stomach. Taki was in the middle of a beautiful moment with Mitsuha's family and that instant where he was snapped back into his life, I just felt like things had fundamentally changed. I'm looking forward to seeing part 3
I really like what Adam said about the unpredictability of Anime stories. There are tropes but rarely can I just scene for scene predict how something will turn out in high quality shows (low-effort anime is extremely predictable). On the other hand I feel like western movie media is so repetitive, most of the time I can just accurately guess what the twists and turns will be.
Adam is absolutely right: of all movies I've seen, anime or not, this one might have the deepest re-watch value. I'm so happy to be seeing this reaction!
I was waiting for your reaction to the twist, i remember the slow realisation of them being in a different time. Also i feel Sarah so much, the first time i watched this movie i was at the edge of my seat, heart racing!
Couple things about why Taki and Mitsuha meet: the movie plays heavily with Asian folklore, particularly those tied to the Buddhist belief in reincarnation. According to folklore, all the people you know in this life, you also knew in past lives, and you will meet again in future lives. Further, the people who are fated to be lovers are believed to be tied together with the "red thread of fate," symbolized by Miitsuha's red hair ribbon. If you see any of the film promo material, Taki and Mitsuha are always shown surrounded by that red ribbon. Asian audiences woyld have immediately picked up on that and would have known they were fated to be together. Another tidbit is the vision Taki has when he drinks Mitsuha's saki. He sees that this whole scenario played our before in the distant past, with another comet hitting where the town is now. That impact created the first lake the town is built around.
Sarah was on point with that Underworld thing. :D I love to see you guys so into this movie, even Adam is on the edge of his seat, and you know what, I did see this movie a couple of times, but same as you, I am way to excited to wait for the last part, and seeing it with you for the whoknowshowmany times. :D I WANNA TIME TRAVEL INTO A FUTURE TOO TO SEE! Somebody switch with me. XD
In some Asian countries, if you cut your hair out of the blue, it is a sign that they are starting a new chapter in their life. Usually done after you experience something bad or something sad, including a heartbreak. That's why Mitsuha cut her hair the day Taki went on a date, because she thought she didn't have a chance with Taki.
mhmm i think the day Mitsuha cut her hair and the day Taki went on a date are not the same day. Because they are on different timelines, even different years. I would tell you why she cut her hair, but it would be a spoiler so...
@@yael702 she went to tokyo on the same day Taki went on a date but different year. After she came back from tokyo, she cut her hair and went to the festival with her friends because something happened to Mitsuha in tokyo. You'll know on the part three why she decided to cut her hair. It's even shown at the beginning of this film.
@@yael702 I think that's also one of the reasons, because Mitsuha thought Taki was going on a date that day but something unexpected happened in Tokyo (i don't want to spoil anything), and she cut her hair when she returned home at dusk. I think it's because she was heartbroken and sad that she decided to cut her hair as a symbol that she wanted to forget him and move on.
This is the first of Sarah's (and Adam's) reactions that I hadn't seen the original source material first. It was still enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing what what you two pick next.
Talk about ramen, lots of visitors from foreign countries love to eat ‘tonkotsu’ ramen, which soup is very thick and greasy. On the other hand, Takayama ramen is soy sauce based and not greasy. Both are great and I recommend you to try both, although you may not find Takayama ramen shop unless you visit Takayama😅
Yes!! in Gifu Prefecture❤ If they're planing to go to Japan in the future I hope they visit Suwa Ko ( Suwa Lake) and other place or locacations related to Your Name anime. They can also visit Miyagi Prefecture where Haikyu anime preference is actually taken place😢
There are some anime movies that popped into my head when Sarah said " I dont think i can handle this" that I know for sure she probably couldn't handle hahaha! Her pain is warranted
man... At the end of the video, I was like, wait, what's going on? - I wasn't expecting this to be in three parts 😢 but still, a lovely reaction, it's really fun watching you 😊
I love this movie and I've watched it a lot. I cried while watching your video, oh, the scene in the library and at the end, when Taki sees all those scenes.... ahhhh
Sarah's reaction was very much mine watching this. Just a constant uneasy feeling from the point of the reveal that Itomori was destroyed. I was as devastated as the town was, from that moment going forward. Mostly due to the fact that the story could really go anywhere from there, which just gave me an immense feeling of dread that my heart was shattering.
the only bad thing about Your Name is that it sets the bar at the very top and nothing compares to it imo. a silent voice is good but Your Name is perfection
Yeah, imagine watching this as your first anime lol. Funnily back in the day, the one who recommend this anime to me is my friend who's not really into anime.
Next time you’re in Toronto there’s some really good authentic/japanese run ramen shops. My favourite is Kinton but Isshin, Hokkaido, Sansotei, and Ikkousha are all great too! (Kinton started franchising though, so there maybe some locations that aren’t up to par)
After this you have to watch "Weathering With You" and "Suzume" No Tojimari". Both by the creator of this film Makoto Shinkai. Also wonderful and buetifull films.
Sarah making the right predictions but also wrong at the same time . I love² that about her . Also I love how just a little bit inch their predictions are right but took a turn 😅
Okay so... I know you guys watched it in one sitting, but I'm still gonna be careful if in case there are people in the comment section who haven't watched this... In the last switch (have a date with Okudera-senpai), if you remember, Taki woke up crying... It was actually Mitsuha who was crying to sleep, and Taki just woke up to that. After that, you see Mitsuha tying her hair and crying... It was also because she had already fallen for Taki (who was going on a date she set up). She then went to Tokyo to see Taki, but things happened that will be shown on part 3. Let's just say something not pleasant for Mitsuha since she's meeting the Taki, 3 years younger. :P Then she asked her grandma to cut her hair because she's... eerr... sad. 😆 and then the night of the Festival with Tessie and Sayaka.
Also, this is baseless... but there are lots of "time travel" theories. For this one, IMO, Taki started to forget her because as he learned the truths about Itomori, the "real timeline" is correcting itself, hence erasing the traces about Mitsuha because she's not supposed to be existing anymore. It's like the "magic" of the switching bodies dies.
I don't know if you'll have realized this by the time the movie ends, but! At 46:56, Taki is forgetting her so quickly because that's what sometimes happens with dreams. You remember them vividly right after you wake up, but think about something else or get distracted briefly and they're completely gone.
Taki and Mitsuha forgetting is the price they had to pay to meet at twilight. Which is why he wrote "I love you" instead of his name, as that would have been erased as well.
@@armynurseboy He began forgetting before they met at twilight though, it was when he realized she wasn't alive anymore that he started forgetting. Like when you wake up and realize your dream was a dream. The end of the twilight triggered both of them forgetting what had happened for the same reason imo. They shifted from being in the twilight and being able to see eachother to being fully back in their own real world, and so the memories began to fade away again. Taki said "so we don't forget" because he knew from experience it'd happen and he wanted her to know.
I love this! I ended up rewatching the movie because I got into your reaction 💕 I'm from LA, and there's a lot of delicious Japanese restaurants. One of my favorite ramen restaurants is Daikokuya Sawtelle 2208 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064 I always get their tonkatsu ramen 😋 Of course, I still need to visit Japan to eat ramen there ☺️ 2025 Japan trip 🙏
Ryus Noodle Bar on Broadview and Danforth is my favourite ramen place to go to. I recommend the Rich Shio if you're like me and prefer richer food. And the Nostalgic Shio for the classic take on ramen. Everything on the menu is good though, definitely give it a try. Anime recommendation: Ranking of Kings
There's a great work of the voice actors, specially Taki's. You can know when Mitsuha is in his body because of the tone, dialect, body language... Japanese girls have a "tradition"? They cut their hair when they are heartbroken... as a new beginning? To let the past behind and move on
Oh, and Ramen is delicious! To get the best I believe you do have to go to Japan (I lived there for three years in my teens) and the only places here in the states that have come close were in LA and San Francisco. Can't remember the names of the restaurants though, sorry.
hold up, toronto as in, canada?? there's SO many good asian restaurants in toronto honestly you probably can't go wrong with any of them! even the chain ramen places are great like kinton, santouka, or sansotei there's also konjiki ramen in north york that's i think the first international location of a michelin star ramen place in japan (i personally don't think it's that special LOL), but they're all good!
please watch "Silent Voice" next, it's from the same director as Your Name. He also recently released “Suzume Closing the Doors.” Well, it's better to watch Silent Voice first and then Suzume. You are amazing, I look forward to the next videos)
Sarah : I'm feeling a lot of feelings.. Literally everyone who watched this feels the same. 😅 if i could erase 1 memory, i wish i could erase my memory of watching this, so i can watch it again for the 1st time and feel those raw emotions again.
Since Adam mentioned it half way through, you really have to watch Your Name again! There are other movies where you can catch a few small things but this movie is full of it. And some are not just small. Some are so on the nose!
I was going to wait until you finished watching, but since you kind of mentioned it already I feel like it is ok and won't spoil anything. So in Asian cultures you will hear about red string of fate. It is supposed to connect you to your true love or "destined" person.
oh sarah i don;t know you will react my other favorite anime. this is like my number 1 for movie anime, and haikyuu for the series anime. For y'all who confused why did taki can't remember mitsuha's name is cuz it's a dream after all. You know the feeling after the dream, you can grasp it, feels so real but you can't remember anything at all. That's what happened in your name
54:14 You asked before if they each made a wish that made this happen. You noted how Mitsuha wished to be made a boy in another life. Here we seek Takiku make a wish to return in time. So while Mitsuha made her wish towards the beginning of the experience, Taki made it towards the end.
Hi! I think you should watch the anime" 5cm/s". That anime is very profound! And it's also terribly sad. You may not know, both of these anime series( 5cm/s and Your name are the same author. He is considered " the witch of sad floats in the Japanese anime world ". I think you'll understand after seeing both of them). His anime is also many and very popular. Thanks!
"Mitsuha got a lot stronger real quick" - actually, it looks to me that she struggles to lift granny at first, *because* Taki hasn't adapted to her strength.
Heh, and I didn't notice until now: when Granny explains the sake is 'half of Mitsuha', he lowers the bottle, as if it's suddenly heavier for him. More serious.
Sarah goes down in the anime rabbit hole, and it seems that Adam is going down too very happyly... Yeah, animé can be veeeery unpredictable, even to us that have years in it. Your name is one stuning one. Not only the story, the music and the scenaries too, I hope you talk about that... See you the next week!!! Pd: If you wanna see a anime that is heartwarming (but a little more serious when progresses) and with a very good little surprises, see Mairimashita Iruma-kun... Just saying, for fun and that. And Shirobako for the love of anime only. I`m a otaku that wants other persons see good anime, you not have to make videos, so... enjoy!!!
I think that setting up the date was inappropriate. It's true he had a crush on Ms Okudera but she wasn't anymore. And in their situation, i'm pretty sure it was a "don't" to meddle consciously with someone private life.
In your very first predictions at the start of the movie, Sarah thought it was gender swapping and Adam thought it was time slipping. That made me so happy because you were both right and also wrong at the same time! Two smart cookies. :D
if u been long enough wtaching anime or quite familiar with japanese culture, when mitsuha indside takis body its super feminime like when he speak using "watashi" instead "ore", the way he falls from his bed and getting shy around them bois, super obvioous lol
I, as a boy, think that being a boy is way easier, would definitely not change if I had the chance. BUT, girls minds work in a very different way, and I think for them, it would be way harder to deal with the struggles of being a man. That's of course speaking in a very generic way, in the end it would depend of the specific person that it happened to.
Sarah asking what's their thought for last week (part 1) when they have the same clothes hahahha
We're good actors 😏 😂
Really props to Adam for noticing how the dates on the notes kind of decreasing and how it changed. I really didn't notice that the first time I watched it.

During the Itomori trip, Taki is wearing "Half Moon"-labeled t-shirt, might be another clue.

I was blown away by that twist. My jaw was on the floor.
Your reaction cliffhangers has me at the edge of my seat rather aaaah 😭
XD
I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE EXCITED FOR A NOTIFICATION IN MY LIFE!!! LFG!!!! 😭
@@sherinaelf ohhh ok. i thought you were trying to say that the reason mitsuha cut her hair was because taki went on a date
You know how it is when after waking up you almost instantly forget what you dreamt of? I think it was like that for them.
This is the first of Sarah's (and Adam's) reactions that I hadn't seen the original source material first. It was still enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing what what you two pick next.
ahhhh can't wait for part3!!!
I'm really looking forward to their reaction to "that moment"
Her pain is warranted
this movie is an absolute masterpiece, visually stunning. I'd love to see you guys watching Koe no Katachi, my favorite anime movie of all times
Musubi!!! the cliffhanger at the end is also Musubi!!! Have to keep calm and wait for part 3
OMG...I can't wait for the part 3😢 Looking forward to seeing your reaction for the rest of the show!!
man... At the end of the video, I was like, wait, what's going on? - I wasn't expecting this to be in three parts 😢
but still, a lovely reaction, it's really fun watching you 😊
I can't wait for part 3... this is so good ahhhh
7:00
remember? Mitsuha screamed she wanna be a boy in Tokyo next life. Hints are everywhere!😊
I truly enjoy your reactions!
the only bad thing about Your Name is that it sets the bar at the very top and nothing compares to it imo. a silent voice is good but Your Name is perfection
Yeah, imagine watching this as your first anime lol. Funnily back in the day, the one who recommend this anime to me is my friend who's not really into anime.
Oh darn. I waited until Part 2 was posted before watching Part 1 ... and now I find there'll be a Part 3! Well, okay, more reaction to watch.
Oh this is such a teaserrrr give me part 3 ASAP😂😂😂
Been waiting for this
That's the kind of notification that will give a boost to any day!
I wish when the video gets muted because of copyright that there's a way we can still hear their comments / reactions
I love how Sarah is absolutely DEVASTATED cuz same! 😭😭
Ooh it’s here! Can’t wait to watch it when I get home tonight 😊
o no no no u cannot cut me off like this i need part 3 right NOW
I don't know if you'll have realized this by the time the movie ends, but!
I ended up rewatching the movie because I got into your reaction 💕
I'm from LA, and there's a lot of delicious Japanese restaurants. One of my favorite ramen restaurants is Daikokuya Sawtelle
2208 Sawtelle Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064
I always get their tonkatsu ramen 😋
Of course, I still need to visit Japan to eat ramen there ☺️ 2025 Japan trip 🙏
Been waiting for this since last year 😅
I love your reactions.
I recommend you to watch "Wolf Children".
It's a very warm and sweet movie.
いつも日本のアニメを楽しんでくれてありがとうございます🤍
Here we go!Ahhaヽ(´∇`)ノ
Happy new year!
Love to watch you two reacting✨
He is changing history also his memory
To let the past behind and move on
Really like the pre-reaction small talk about the topic of which is more easier to become a fir or a boy
I highly recommend Kitakata Ramen when you guys are in Southern California!
Oh, and Ramen is delicious! To get the best I believe you do have to go to Japan (I lived there for three years in my teens) and the only places here in the states that have come close were in LA and San Francisco. Can't remember the names of the restaurants though, sorry.
hold up, toronto as in, canada?? there's SO many good asian restaurants in toronto honestly you probably can't go wrong with any of them!
even the chain ramen places are great like kinton, santouka, or sansotei
there's also konjiki ramen in north york that's i think the first international location of a michelin star ramen place in japan (i personally don't think it's that special LOL), but they're all good!
please watch "Silent Voice" next, it's from the same director as Your Name. He also recently released “Suzume Closing the Doors.” Well, it's better to watch Silent Voice first and then Suzume. You are amazing, I look forward to the next videos)
A Silent Voice is by a different director (but still very good)!
@@pal_tm Oh,.I'm so sorry, I was thinking it's the same idk why...
But yeah both are great
@@bulochkask-pop "Weathering with you" is the one from Makoto Shinkai, too, and it sits right between "Your name" and "Suzume"
If you're in LA you can just hit up little tokyo, they have a lot of great japanese joints there
Sarah : I'm feeling a lot of feelings..
Literally everyone who watched this feels the same. 😅 if i could erase 1 memory, i wish i could erase my memory of watching this, so i can watch it again for the 1st time and feel those raw emotions again.
Отличный выбор, ждём продолжения😊😊😊
This is great
do you guys think Sarah would enjoy Golden Kamuy?
I love this movie. If you want another that is also a bit of a gut punch watch A Silent Voice.
There’s a part 3????
never thought u divide it in three❗️
Since Adam mentioned it half way through, you really have to watch Your Name again!
Wut? You were in the PH recently? Wish I knew, would have loved to have hosted you guys.
46:56
well you barely remember what you dreamed once you 'wake up'🤔
Cant wait for p3!!!
oh sarah i don;t know you will react my other favorite anime. this is like my number 1 for movie anime, and haikyuu for the series anime.
この話はイルマーレやオーロラの彼方へに似ています。日本の小説家で乙一という人がいますが、彼が書いた君にしか聞こえないにも似ています。私はこのアニメはそれらからインスピレーションを受けたと思っています。
part 3 please
Watch "grave of the fireflies" next pls😊
Need a part 3 ASAP💀
Seeing how Sarah felt witnessing the heavy moments, I'm kinda hesitant to recommend to them that movie 🤫🗣️
Pls watch Violet Evergarden next. The story is so heartwarming I really recommend it 😊👍
How have you never had ramen?!!
I`m a otaku that wants other persons see good anime, you not have to make videos, so... enjoy!!!
Need Adam and Sarah to watch A Silent Voice...!!
Part 3 😳
I think that setting up the date was inappropriate. It's true he had a crush on Ms Okudera but she wasn't anymore. And in their situation, i'm pretty sure it was a "don't" to meddle consciously with someone private life.
In your very first predictions at the start of the movie, Sarah thought it was gender swapping and Adam thought it was time slipping. That made me so happy because you were both right and also wrong at the same time! Two smart cookies. :D
I want her to watch Golden Time
if u been long enough wtaching anime or quite familiar with japanese culture, when mitsuha indside takis body its super feminime like when he speak using "watashi" instead "ore", the way he falls from his bed and getting shy around them bois, super obvioous lol
