12:36 A clarification just in case - Saburo is not actually Tanjiro’s biological grandfather, “granddad” here is just a term on endearment that was common at the time (and is still fairly common today). (Edit: sorry, you didn’t need my comment after all.)
Also, it’s not a spoiler to say that while you don’t know the exact year this is set in, we are told it is the reign of Emperor Taisho (known in life as Yoshihito) who reigned from 1912 to 1926. Hints crop up now and again that suggest that it is probably the earlier part of that date range.

There is a common image of "oni" (demon) among Japanese people, but its definition varies. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba explains the story's unique ``demon'' within the story, so please enjoy it as it is as a world view. (I think the characteristics of the demon in this story are certainly similar to vampires).
Also, since I am using a translation function, the question and answer may be misaligned. sorry. → The Japanese people of 1,000 years ago certainly believed in demons, and there are many stories about them in myths and folk tales, which are still the source of ideas for manga today. As for whether Japanese people believe in demons, it may be easier to imagine whether or not people in Europe believed in vampires in 1900. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba depicts Japan about 100 years ago. Electricity was finally starting to be used in cities, so in areas where electricity was not yet in use, the darkness of the night was more feared than now. It may have seemed like something other than a person was lurking in the darkness.

Adam this is a great fantasy vampire theme like story but better plenty of ways. Suggestion for Sarah (Adam is clearly a vet to the genre), is to embrace the impossible. This isn’t our world so everything won’t be as realistic as Haikyuu.
There is so much beauty and heart if you let yourself and your senses get wrapped up in this fantasy world.
I think what he meant was, usually anime exaggerating a lot of things, like Haikyuu, it is on realistic settings but some of them is still done in anime style and being exaggerated.
But in DS case it is pure fantasy cause the characters have superpowers.
It's called "suspending your disbelief" btw

19:30 🤣Tanjiro can definitely be a little slow or dopey sometimes due to being a country bumpkin but as you'll find out, he's actually incredibly intelligent and quick-witted when it counts.
I love this introduction to Giyu - he's very harsh, but having his inner thoughts on top of it makes him seem like quite a softie. First time I saw it I thought he was just a prick, second time I started having respect for him.
Yooooo was not expecting Adam to come in for some non-haikyuu anime reactions. Hope you guys enjoy this one! For time period this is early 1900s Japan - a lot of the country hadnt yet industrialized so it's not gonna be what you think of for like early 1900s America/Canada.

Haven't watched the video yet but HOLY CRAP are you guys in for one hell of a ride. This is BY FAR my favorite first episode of any anime that I've seen. This series also has A LOT of the same voice actors as Haikyuu!
Also, I'm going to channel my inner Takeda-sensei and keep pestering you about "A Place Further than the Universe." That series for me is on the same level as this and Haikyuu despite only being 13 episodes long.
I must have watch this first season at least 20 times through reaction channels lol I was thinking in no watching it anymore this year but for you guys I will made an exception because your reactions and "prediction time!" are always fun haha

this anime answers ALL your questions when you watch it, in the next episodes you will see that
about nezuko muzzle, this is special muzzle for her, Tomioka (guy with black hair) made it for her so she cant bite his brother, and also he said in this episode that this is first time that he saw something like that (he said that demons always eat somebody, even their parents and that happened so much that he cant count)
I thought Sarah would watch something cute but this is still a really nice surprise!🥰🥰

My wife and I love your reactions with Adam! Our only complaint is the sound editing, which seems excessively muted to avoid soundtrack strikes, but compared to other reactions your comments should not need to be muted, just the music, right? Either way, I love your choice of the subtitles version! Please enjoy this Shonen!
We watch the reactions with the sound on so the audio track is actually on camera audio track. That means if we mute one they both mute. I don't really want to wear headphones to watch so we can separate the audio tracks. I'm open to suggestions on how to do this better.

I didn't expect a Battle Shounen so soon on the channel but here we go.
I saw this comment on the last episode of the RWTW react series but I'm inclined to agree with it - After Haikyuu and RWTW, as far as sports animes go it would all have been downhill from there, so strangely I see Demon Slayer as a good choice - fantastic animation and heartfelt, intriguing plot, but also very popular in more recent years to help with channel views.
Quite a change of pace from your other anime series, but I think you're starting a really wild ride into a great anime.
A big draw of the shounen genre is the fight / power fantasy. I'm not sure if either of you are into that kinda thing, but I'm glad that demon slayer is your first shounen because it has a lot of other things to offer beside the main draw.
I don't think "power fantasy" is the right term. That's for an overpowered protagonist doing whatever they wants. It's not really a term you use for protagonist that's struggling to win most of the time.

I’m so excited that y’all have started this show!! It’s one of my all time favorite anime and I’m currently obsessed with y’all’s haikyuu reactions so it’s the best of both worlds. Y’all are in for a wild ride but absolutely beautiful storytelling and animation. Definitely a tear jerker at times and will have you on the edge of your seat.

This really caught me by surprise, I didn't expect you guys reacting to this anime. This experience will be wonderful, especially since you pay a lot of attention to every detail and I love that. There are still so many emotions to feel in this series and so many incredible characters. Cutting his hair short signifies a type of maturation he will need going forward.
Tanjiro is pronounced like TAWWWN-jiro. As a tip, every “A” sound in Japanese is an ah, as in “father.” Father. Tanjiro. From Your Name, we have TAki, and MistuHA. All of them are AHH as in father 👍🏼 (as a heads up, KARAsuno also follows that same long A sound!)
