It was really a masterpiece and also many had not seen his coming, because the director was famous for never give happy endings on his films. This was his first he ended happy and im glad he did.
Yup. Everyone was scared he would do his classic "walk by each other and never say a word" ending.....
At 43:17 the director did this to tease the audience. In his earlier film “5 Centimeters Per Second” he did this scene and the two didn’t talk. She just walked away. So, the audience grew with anxiety thinking it would happen again. 😂
Man I could never be a reactor. This shit makes me cry too much. When she opened her hand and it said "I love you" stop it. Love the reactions I know I've recommended Princess Mononoke a couple times but really any Miyazaki film you'd enjoy. And they all have phenomenal English dubs. The writer and director of Your Name, Makoto Shankai said in an interview that he didn't want Miyazaki to watch it because he'd be able to see all the flaws in it. This movie is not only beautiful but puts a unique twist on the whole body swapping trope with the time difference added in. Thanks for the reaction ✌
watch even animated movies subtitled, not dubbed; the original voice actors work with the movie makers; dubbors don't; only if the movie is very successful, the studios may put in the effort and money to put in a good dub; but it still isn't the emotions and feelings the original movie creators intended
Everyone should watch Mononoke, but you can’t post reactions to it - Ghibli will nuke channels that post reactions to their films.
@@muddeer5383 I agree with you to a point. As a native English speaker I appreciate the effort put into almost all of Miyazaki's film's dubs. They have A list actors that take it seriously and deliver. Generally speaking the original Japanese is better and I'm not saying the original is worse in this instance but the English stands out as better than most. There are some that I legitimately believe are better in English like Cowboy Bebop and DBZ.
@@somerotter I've seen a couple people react to Mononoke and many react to Spirited Away and it didn't seem to be a problem.
Had to like and comment when you instantly went and got the proper subtitles to show what the note in her notebook was saying. So many awesome scenes in this movie would have been lost without those subtitles. Thank you for doing that and being thorough so you didn't miss out on the details in the film!

The "I love you" reveal had me in tears when i saw this in theaters when it originally released in the US. 😭 Hope to see a Silent Voice and Weathering with You reactions someday 🙏
A lot of people are recommending A Silent Voice, and they aren't wrong, but Weathering With You should also be on your radar since it's connected to this film. Same studio/director. Enjoyed watching with you.

One of my all-time favourite animated films, alongside Tokyo godfathers/Paprika/Ghost in the shell.
The "ties that bind" in this film are represented by the "red string of fate" (common in Asian folklore/cultural beliefs) and the concept of "Musubi" introduced in the film.
I remember watching this around the time the song "Taki Taki" came out, and that scene where mitsuha was cycling calling Taki's name was my own personal meme.
Is it just me, or did anyone else think that the owner/chef at the ラメンや ( ramen-ya/ramen shop) was a alternate future version of mitsuha's father?

She is able to understand the Japanese mind. Yes, Mitsuha and Taki were last shy and hard to talk to.
I was happy that they understood japanese mind because I am Japanese.
what? no, I always interpreted it as their feelings were super strong for eachother because they never forgot the feelings, but they have NO memories of eachother. Only the emotions of having forgotten someone important. That's why they feel like they desperatly need to find eachother but at the same time canät speak to eachother because they are complete starngers. the only thing that made them cry and talk to eachother at the end is because both of them are still feeling their emotions for eachother. But they can't remember eachother so they ask eachother for the other ones name.

Yeah, Japanese people are shy unlike American.
Not just shy. They don't know each other! They totally forgot. The only thing they have left is a feeling they're missing their other half. So they were literally strangers when they walked past each other.

As westerners its easy for us to want them to approach each other even tho they have no idea who each other are. But we have to take into account the setting. Japan is very traditional, and people dont just go around approaching anyone. Their culture hasnt developed in that way. And yes, they have this feeling that they recognize each other, but thats at conflict with the reality that they have no clue who each other are. It's not even a feeling. it's more of instinct. Instinct dont require previous stimuly. It's just there without explanation.

No it was intentional, they explained Taki realised that the memory loss would be to strong to get Mizuha going if he only write his name. She only would be confused. They explained that Love would be a bigger motivation because know she had to act and find him and couldnt be erased by the memory loss.
In Weathering with You, we learn that Taki and Mitsuha got married.
