Really nice car 👍 I like the fact, that you took the original gearshifter in place . Your question for the most beautiful Porsche 356 B convertible, from my perspective.
Like how you kept some ties to the original like the gearbox. It would be interesting to analyse two comparisons: 1) Compare to geared gas version. How much does the torque curve change between to the two? Also compare how much the engine and exhaust plays into the driving satisfaction? 2) Compare to non geared electric. Does geared EV need to be lower powered to really benefit? Does it affect EV distance? What about a larger, non geared EV on corners? Does it lag? Do you feel like you need to go larger rear tires to benefit? Would a larger porsch gearbox support a larger EV engine 3) Bonus question: Why not a sleeper 356 with AWD EV?
❤😂😢😮😅😮😢😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 that’s a bad ass 356A and I wish I could buy a electric car of a Ford, but I’m kind of scared because of the saying that they’re having problems with batteries catching on fire and there was a junkyard where I live got the car caught on fire they put it out There was a fire at the junkyard started again after when it was out and was smothering so that’s why I’m worried about buying electric but they’re working on getting it better. I like your video the 356.
I’d have liked a closer look at the gauges. Presumably the faces of the speedometer and rev counter are unchanged (or are they modified for a higher max rpm and top speed?) what about the fuel gauge?
Is there a prettier car than the 356? Hmmm...the Jaguar XKE is pretty nice, particularly in coupe form, and the Mercedes 300SL Gullwing Coupe has its charms, still I'm a fan of the 356. One of the few European classics I've really wanted.
Weight is the same as it was when petrol with a full tank of fuel. Range depends as always on how and where you drive it but as a rule it’s around 100-120 mile range driving normally on A roads here in mid Wales. 👍
@@ElectricClassicCars welldone keeping the weight the same. With the electric drive train i hope the lucky owner enjoys putting loads of miles on her. Keep up the good work 👍
It would depend on the efficiency map of the motor and the gear ratios, however a gearbox can hold a motor in its most efficient rev range so I’d say a motor attached to a gearbox would be more efficient for range. 👍
Datsun Roadsters i.e. SP310 and SR311 have a central jack point :) mid point of balance. p.s. still waiting on a Datsun 240z conversion! Hit up MZR Roadsports and do a Collab !!! 💯
Beautiful! I’m probably being stupid but I don’t understand how changing gears helps with an electric motor? If the torque curve is flat the motor exerts the same torque at low revs as high. The gearbox is used in an ICE engine because it has low torque at low revs so needs gears to keep the engine revving. If changing gears is to protect the gearbox surely top gear where the drive runs straight through rather than via lay shafts is safer? Again I’m probably missing something but it left me a bit puzzled! Or is it that older drivers miss changing gears and need something to do!!!
Welcome back guys, been a while. Question, when it comes down to economy, or range, with a petrol engine, using a transmission (primarily the overdrive) you'll get more range. Why can't the same principle be used with electric vehicles?
Question. I’m currently working on installing the same hyper 9 setup in a 1966 Karmann Ghia. Similar car…but definitely not as cool as the Porsche. How did you set a clutch switch to signal the regen-on-neutral braking to pause between shifts?
You certainly don’t want to give that old gearbox full torque immediately, that’s why we program the motor/controller to introduce the torque more gradually. 👍
If the original drivetrain, clutch, gearbox and driveshafts were rated for the original 60HP would it not make more sense to use around 60HP electric and get better range, what is the weight compared to the original?
Besides the obvious reason that if you are re-engining a sports car it is unlikely that the owner is going to keep the same power as the original engine they are going to want it to go faster . The less obvious reason is that sub 100hp engined cars are dangerous in modern conditions. They do not keep up with modern traffic and are just traffic barriers on any sort of hill.
@@francesconicoletti2547 Power to weight ratio is key, not HP figures alone, the 356 weighs 820Kg it has a top speed of 110mph and 0 to 60 of 13.5 seconds with that 60HP Todays cars are far heavier so need more HP to propel the extra weight.
