How To HELI LOOP / DOWNLOOP / LANDING LOOP FOR BIG JUMPS BIG AIR Kitesurfing | Get High with Mike

  • A heli loop, downloop or landing loop, is the loop you throw before landing a massive jump! You need to use one of these if you’re coming down from big heights, because generating enough lift at the right time becomes increasingly difficult with higher jumps. This is the maneuver that encouraged me to start coaching. Let me know what you think or drop questions in the comments! N’yeowww!

Hey Mike, great video! Could you do a video about the thenique of doing a small bounce right before the pop? I’ve seen a lot of pros like Janek doing it , but never found a clear explanation.

DUDE I have been searching for YEARS for this video!!!!! All the "landing big jumps" videos I've seen did not take Cape Town into account! Deffo hitting you up for a coaching sesh next time I'm in CT.
Especially useful: 4:45 where you see the kite AND the bar!! Even if you just filmed yourself with a bar in the garden. Showing what to do with the bar in the corner, and the kite on the main screen, is amazing.
    Thanks boet

I've been trying to heliloop all season without much success. I thought the video posted last month by @kite-surf-college was great, but it missed some key points you have provided such as swinging under the kite and releasing the bar a little. No wonder I've been accidently power looping. While I'm a bit discouraged by just how technical the heliloop is, this video has inspired me to get somebody to video what I'm doing and look for the new elements described in the video. Thanks Mike :)

Nice Mike! Heli loops are awesome. Getting 8-11 seconds airtime sometimes now on jumps, even jumps around 10-15 meters are now sick. Getting lifted up a bit by a heliloop is the best feeling, especially when you than land it with 1-3G. Nice and clear vid! I will try the tip on letting go of the bar a bit to swing faster underneath :)

    • @gethighwithmike
      @gethighwithmike  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks Michel! Orientating your body to the pull entails opposing the force the kite is generating. So when the loop pulls in one direction, your body needs to pull in the other direction to remain balanced :D Thanks for watching!!!

Hi Mike, I really like your tutorials (the intro too)! Anyways - the only question I have left is, why would you do a heli loop with the back hand (beeing way more difficult..)?
Only if you want to cover more horizontal distance or if you did a steering mistake during the jump (where the front hand wouldnt work anymore)?
    Cheers :)

Is there a difference of heli looping XR vs GTS? I feel like GTS do not hurry to go backside so it needs more time to get into a start position for heli loop or I do something wrong. Please do a video how to take off from a wave stable and DO NOT start rotating - it is the scariest part for many ;)

In my case I pull the heliloop focusing on either the surface of water to land but sketchy on the loop of the kite or focusing on the kite but crash the landing... I guess a bit more practise will fix it .

    • @gethighwithmike

If you jump right and your kite is at 1 o clock (on the right) you'd need to do a back hand loop :)
Think of it this way: you need to loop with the opposite hand to the side your kite is on when you're descending

is it normal for my front hand helis to end up as a transition? My technique has become: front hand for transition and back hand for original direction. Is this right? Also, cheers Mike, this is the video that got me to this point safely

Yeah! I think it's about your body orientation, but I find that with front hand heli loops it's more natural to land in a transition.

Can you make a vid frim how to jump over broken waves I always lose my speed while riding to a kicker

Find yourself a flat water spot and teach yourself to jump there, once you got flat water jumping down its the same as jumping over broken waves :)

ollie over them, park the kite at 2 o clock, zoom at white water, ollie and sheet in a bit, sheet out, land and edge like fuck. If you move the kite you lose speed. Now try with the kite at 3 o clock - more speeeeeeeed!!

When he did the yeooow sound, I wondered how many lawsuits have come against TH-cam "instructors." Excellent video, though.
