39 - Creating a Sandbox For Odin & Putting The Rock Sieve to Work On The Junk Pile!
- We've noticed Odin's interest in scooping compost from our flower pots, so we decided to make him a proper sandbox to play in. Philippe found some sturdy wooden planks in good condition in the attic, which he's repurposing for the sandbox, and it's a success! Additionally, we've finally been able to resume the cleaning project near the chicken coop. With more forgiving weather and drier soil, Philippe is eager to test the rock sieve he made. Despite encountering a few challenges, including saving our rooster from being trapped by the sieve, which unfortunately resulted in a few broken parts, Philippe is making good progress in filling the pit with clean soil. I'm also getting my hands dirty. As Philippe sieves and scoops, I rake out the soil, gradually leveling it out and getting junk out of there. Although we're nearing completion, there's still a bit more work to do before the rain returns.

Such a lucky boy is Odin to have such wonderful parents as you guys!! The joy and love he is going to have playing in his sandbox that daddy built is priceless. Well done both of you!! Another awesome video!! You are a great family!! Big hugs!
Thx Diwondermum!
I still love watching your videos and watching Phillippe learn and making the property beautiful! Thank you!
Your welcome Travis!
Once again thank you for letting us have a little glimpse into lovely family, keep up the good work ❤
No Problem Beverly, glad you enjoy them!
Phillippe is such a perfectionist it's a very admirable quality and rare! Straight lines in the vegetable patch too 😂
Thx Patricia, haha lucky i didn't use a laser to level the soil 😅
I suspect Odin will find endless entertainment in his new sandbox. It's well executed and a terrific repurposing of wood from the attic. Clever to make a cover to ensure animals, both domestic and wild, don't soil the sand. You might occasionally hide a toy or surprise in the sandbox so Odin can find "treasures" and "artifacts."
Hey Cool! Great idea it will keep him occupied a bit more! 🙏😅
Great clean up!👍 Phil🇬🇧
Thx Phil!
Taking "clean" to a higher level
❤
We are glad this part is "done" 👊
The sandbox is awesome❤ such a great way to reuse the attic boards ❤
Hey Carrie, yes they were in excellent shape to use them for this and the sandbox is pleasant to look at ❤
Nice setup and system for cleaning the soil and a great sandbox cover!
Thx Jeroen!
The sandbox is a great way of reusing items oden will have many hours of fun, always enjoy watching your channel x
Thx Karen!
Another excellent video. Your land is starting to look amazing after so much very hard work. Thank you for sharing the journey 😊
No problem Sheila, thank you for watching!
The sandbox will give Odin hours of fun. Various kinds of Pumpkin seeds on the smaller rubble will give you a big harvest. Pumpkin grows anywhere. The chickens will love it too.
Hey Annemarie, i think we have some pumpkin seeds. I will have to ask the seed vault master 😅
I now look forward to a new episode every week, one of my favourite channels. Keep them coming please
Thx Ross, we will!
That's a beautiful rooster!
Thx!
Nice rooster save! ...and he can take the blame for the broken sieve.
A good job, well done 😊
Haha someone who noticed 😅Damned rooster I've put him in his pen a few times because unlike the hens he doesn't know the limits.
@@DomaineSauvage You realise you've got one of the most capable and intelligent dogs ? 😉 So perhaps find someone to teach you how to train her to keep the chickens away ?
She is very smart but for now I'll just put the rooster away when he gets too dangerous! 😅
My oldest son used to spend hours and hours in the sandbox that his grandfather built for him. That little boy is now 39 years old and is a university professor. Enjoy the time with your son because the time goes by so fast.
We will John!
Children just love a sand box good idea with the lid
Thx Alan!
Sandbox…awesome! Cleaning the dirt….necessary, but challenging. The hydrangeas…beautiful. Ours are just starting to bud out. A good week! 👍🌹
Thx Sandra, spring flower wise is in full effect now all we need is more sun 🙏
Quite an accomplishment to get that mess cleaned up. Now you can move forward to make it beautiful and productive!
Ah yes finally, the task should have been done way sooner but with these rains we keep on getting it has been spread over several weeks 😬
Love the 3 of you, love all the animals, loved the video as always! ❤️
Thx Jacky!
Geweldig.
Glad you covered Odin’s sandpit. I forgot to do this when I made one (out of a very big digger tyre) and neighbourhood cats decided I had made them a new toilet. I used building sand. It was ok but held moisture.
😝🫢 Phil. Suffolk U.K. 🇬🇧
Ah yes when we lived in Belgium there were loads of cats around and they would poop and piss everywhere 😂, we even had to put little sticks in our plant borders to stop them else they would scratch open everything.
That was lovely to watch, great editing. All your hard work is paying off all round. The garden will be beautiful.
Thx Phoebe! Anicia puts a lot of effort in making a story each week which isn't easy with what i film 😂
Love your video's ..and the chickens foraging all the critters with every dig you do..I do believe that Odin's sandbox was a hit..great improvements happening with every video..looks so much better already!
I have had to put them in their pen because they would get too close to the excavator especially the rooster 😅
Wow! Very interesting video, very hard working loved you video 👍👍👍👍❤❤❤

Take care and God bless!
Thx!! 🙏👍❤
Odin is very lucky having parents as good as you. He is going to grow up in a fantastic environment.
We plan to plant potatoes next year etc when we are in France permanently.
Thx! Don't follow me on how to plant potatoes 😂
@@DomaineSauvage looked fine, I've never done it before
You are one handy and inventive guy !! The rock sieve is genius !! and what a job.....but when your gardens are planted, you will have quite the features to enjoy
Thx Patricia! We are looking forward to having flowers on that spot 🙏
Another enjoyable video thanks
You are welcome!
So nice to see someone building something for their child! I watch a lot of videos from Iran because I enjoy watching what they are building. So many times I have suggested they build a play area for their little kids and they never do!
Love watching your videos!
Hey Ann, the kids love these things soo much and it is what they will hopefully remember forever ❤ Weird that they don't want too but it might be a culture difference.
@@DomaineSauvage you are right it may be a cultural thing. Just thought it would be so nice for the children
Your channel is really wonderful, the content and editing are just so watchable.
Odin looked very content with his new sandpit!!
Your potato planting was impeccable, with the skills of someone who had been doing it forever, you will get a good crop.
This is old fashioned, but if you take some of your baby new potatoes and then place them in an airtight tin, you can bury the tin maybe 60cm deep, later in the year you can dig them up for Christmas Day dinner.
Thank you for your video.
Thx LL, we are looking into ways to preserve our potatoes so we might be eating them until our new crop 🙏
Nice to see you are able to start planting, hope that tree does not take up to much moisture
Now it wont be a problem, maybe when we get a dry spell in the future?
It's all well done, loved those cloud shots rolling in...and we all have memories of our sand piles, even on small suburban lots in NJ...
When i came back from Belgium it was on the priority list to get his sandbox built!
I am full of admiration at the quality of your soil cleaning work well done both
Odin will love the sand pit hours of play in the fresh air 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thx Sue!
Lovely
Thx!!
It's good that you are not trying to answer every post. That job is very hard to do so please do not work too hard at it. We all understand and do not expect perfection. Look for posts that ask questions and answer those for starters. I enjoyed the new video immensely! Thank you so much for posting....😊
Hey Janarix! For now it doesn't take up too much time to answer or comment to everyone! In the future as we hopefully grow it might become a bit more difficult and we will have to be more selective. Thank you for watching! 🙏
So it's a give & take deal
It is 😄
You have managed to achieve a great deal between rain showers and before the heat of the summer. I love to see the care you take. It's a great investment for a happy future :-)
Thx Camb, We hope the rain stops but from what we've read it might be until June..
Hi Philip, small suggestion for the sandbox cover. If you buy a length of webbing, then cut it into three pieces, and attach to the lid, it will last longer than just the tarp material.
Hey Tony, good suggestion i was wondering how many times the tarp would roll up and down before breaking 😅
It is so heard warming to watch you two getting the sandpit ready…my Father made a great effort to build us 3 children a Sandpit,a swing 🎉
Lovely to hear, a swing or wooden castle is next up on the list 🙏
Almost there. As keen gardeners, my husband and I are interested to see what else you plant. Also, will you have animals?
Ah we have more plants are coming, we couldn't do much because it was too wet.. But you can expect the normal things like onions, tomatoes, lettuce, strawberries,.. We will film what we put in the ground! As for animals for now no, in the future yes.
Wonderful play time memories of our sandbox and tire 🛞 swing. I hope you document Odin enjoying it! Great job Papa!
Hi Philip, we found that out the hard way Iin New Zealand, when the top blew away on a storm, next time I used webbing and screwed the ends to the frame.
I am going to look for some quality webbing, because it will act as a sail if the wind picks it up 🙏
Beautiful property enjoy
Thank you Miriam!
Succes👊🏻👍🏻
Thx jan!!!
My kids had a 10’X 12’ sandbox that they enjoyed for years ( cats were a problem).
Now that I’m a great Grammy, I wanted to provide my greats with some of that same fun so I used a garden wagon with deep sides and bought bags of sand to fill it with. I’ve buried polished stones, beach glass, and mini dinosaurs. They enjoy finding the treasures and sifting and playing.
Thank you for your video, they are interesting, and I admire your efforts to cheat a new environment for your family.
A Great Gram from MO
PS- I can pull the wagon in and out of the garage and move it to shady locations…enjoy watching him play over the years.
Thx Jane, someone else also mentioned hiding some treasures in there and we will do that. It is a great idea!
Epic work, very impressive 😃
Thx Neroli!!
Ahh the Snowballs are my favorite spring flower.
I would have to look at the video again to see which ones 😅
Great job guys!
nice
Thanks
🎉
Thx Roos!
Anicia, you should do a before and after photo side by side frame of 24:46 with a pic of the actual sunflowers that will be on top soon. that way people will know which kind to plant and which to put in the bin 🤗🤗
I live in Chianti and the brutal heat snd endless sun of summer have pretty much destroyed the roses I planted 10 years ago. I was just about to look up when to plant sunflowers. As there are endless fields of them here and nobody waters them (I don't think🤔 Maybe there are those huge water sprinklers in the fields.)
It would be great to know what kind of 🌻🌻🌻🌻 they're going to plant on their property.
Play sand=gold😂😂😂😂, because of $$$$. Love it!!
Haha the price is insane 😂
I have to tell u the sandbox will attract fleas & tics, had one & it did just that so I got rid of sand & put dirt n there...was much better! Great video! 😊
Hmm, thx for the heads up i am going to keep an eye on it!
@@DomaineSauvage Hmm, you could always loosen the dirt with your digger when it get too tight to play in. Great video❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You might also come up with a way to filter the sand so you can screen out the debris that will inadvertently get in.
Enjoy your videos very much. My wife and I think the sieve is angled too steep.
Thx! We made it this steep so rocks don't get stuck on it. We might try different angles when we make the steel version!
Next a jungle gym...😊
Perhaps a metal framed sieve with wheels fitted so you can move it easier.
That is what i have in mind next, the one in wood is a bit too flimsy 😅
I can't believe you have to remove all that sand😱😥
The sandbox is great. Did you chamfer the corners of the frame boards to minimise the risk of getting sprinklers?
I did not, i only sanded them i think.
Do you have any castor wheels or rollers to put under the sieve frame? They will make moving the frame around the farm. By not dragging the frame directly across the ground the frame is less likely to get damaged.
We are going to rebuild it in metal, the prototype works but is too weak in wood.
When are you starting your renovation's on your home, can't wait to see your farm all finished ❤❤
Lesley, first finish the digging behind the barn, then the barn roof so we don't have the risk of cave in and after that it will be the house.
I'm a big fan of the new rooster, glad he's fitting in; what's his name?
Monsieur Le Coq 😂
Merci Jean-Francois!
6:34 you should throw some stones in there and get Odin trained up in separating stuff 😅
Haha get them learning early on 🙏
Of course it hails right where you're standing. 😂
Turn the Sieve so it is in the opposite direction it is now because all the dirt was coming on the front of the sieve.
That is what i wanted, the dirt and rocks in front and the clean soil underneath?
I take time outs my day to watch & thumbs up,I don't have to,all you tubers thank their patrons, what about the plain ass subscribers?
We do thank everyone and we respond to every comment! 🙏
I was wondering in the winter if you use straw in the hen house, because hay traps moisture.
horizontaal 🙏👍
Seems like a lot of shade for a garden?
Hello Mary! You're absolutely right! Although at the time that spot was cleared and no brambles growing there so we chose it as a "test" run. For next season we have a better spot with better sunlight exposure!
Can you please write me the Name/Number off the smaller Makita Saw you are using to cut the Wood for the Sandbox. I'm looking for a Makita Saw with the Blade on the left side.
Thank you - Chris
Makita dls714
You can play soccer with that ..... 😆
A lot of you tubers, cry about making content,we the subscribers has to wait, til y'all are ready
Hey Tami, we haven't cried yet i think 😅
Y'all get to enjoy things in life, but only show up once a week, that's fine, but I'm 1 of the little people that shows up when y'all do
We are very grateful that you do!
I represent the French Chicken Labor United Unions, Hens and Roosters Together, and we're here to talk about wages, living conditions and pensions. We see your employees working in the fields everyday, picking those grubs, which will improve your crops harvest, loyal companions in sun and storms that are right there as soon as you break the soil. They will probably stand at attention when you play the Marseillaise on July 14, nodding to "fertilizing the soil with the blood of the invaders," the monarchs of Europe. To the negotiating table: Local 1793...as to the living conditions, air conditioning in the summer and space heaters in the winter are on the table! Marche On...
Royalties per egg will of course also be on the table...you didn't think the laying was "free labor" did you?
Haha air conditioning, we the lords don't even have that! 😅
@@DomaineSauvage thanks Domaine for taking it in a light spirit...I thought afterwards, that you and your family might be escaping the old rounds of European politics, and might be offended by my sarcasm...and then I thought, no, these are "free range chickens, no unions for them." They look fine and healthy.
Hey mate purchased the farm machinery cars trailers tools where did you get all that money? just curious 😮
Sold our house / savings / and now TH-cam starting to earn some money.
