Welcome to Domaine Sauvage! Let me introduce us: I'm Anicia, accompanied by my partner Philippe and our little explorer, Odin. In the summer of 2023, we left the comforts of our lives in Belgium and purchased an old farmhouse in the south of France, specifically in the Dordogne region. We produce weekly videos documenting our progress on the property, with the ultimate goal of renovating it and restoring it to its former glory. Join us on our journey of transforming this French homestead as we aim for a simpler, yet more fulfilling life closer to nature.

Last week, Philippe tackled the major job of splitting the tractor in two together with Claude , swapping out parts, and inspecting the worn clutch. While he searches for a replacement and plans to have the old one relined-restoring its friction material for full functionality-he’s diving back into excavation work in the meantime. This week’s efforts bring us one step closer to completing the parking area and moving forward with the renovation of the old barn.
But like most projects here, things rarely go as smoothly as planned. Some days bring one challenge after another, turning even simple tasks into a series of unexpected hurdles. A support on the dumper gave way and had to be rewelded and bolts needed adding and tightening.
Despite the challenges, we found time to enjoy moments together as a family-working side by side, sharing a homemade dinner of caramelized leek, bacon, and cheese quiche paired with an autumn-inspired salad. We also had the chance to collaborate with Flexispot and test their E7 Pro standing desk. Setting it up and upgrading our workspace together was a fun process, and after two weeks of use, I’ve found it helps me stay more active while editing by allowing me to easily switch between sitting and standing positions.
And with the sunny days lingering, we’ve been treated to the sight of migrating cranes making their way south for winter.
Every week, this property reveals a little more of its hidden story, and we’re so thankful to have you join us on this journey!

61 - Reviving the Old McCormick F240 Tractor: Clutch Issues and More!
This week is all about the tractor. Although Philippe managed to get it running with Claude's help, it’s still not running smoothly, so everything needs to be checked to identify the issue. At first, it’s a process of trial and error, but soon enough, Claude suspects the clutch might be stuck. To access the clutch, several components need to be removed-starting with the front loader, followed b...

Last winter, Philippe said, ‘I’m not a mechanic,’ but I’d say he’s well on his way to becoming one. While waiting for the soil to dry out behind the barns, he’s tackling a new task with Claude’s guidance, picking up skills he never thought he’d need. He starts off by fixing the exhaust on the dumper, and if you caught last week’s video, you know we picked up a second tractor, hoping it might se...

This week, you’ll see Philippe tackling the barn’s water issue by digging away the soil that has built up over the years behind it. He dives into some long-overdue tasks while the rain halts the digging and we also head out of town to pick up something exciting that will help us move forward with another project for this winter. As autumn settles in, we kick off the week under bright blue skies, with Philippe determined to keep the excavation on track. With good weather on his side, he forgoes filming to focus on getting as much done as possible. But the next day brings an unexpected turn-remnants of Hurricane K...

Argus 4 Pro: reolink.com/product/argus-4-pro/?aff=622 A new week and a new set of challenges. At this point, we’ve learned a universal truth: rain equals mud, and mud equals... well, problems. Big ones. For example, Bob the dumper-bless his 4x4 heart-got stuck. Enter Fred the digger, our hero, rolling in to save the day, only for his track to pop off. Classic. But hey, silver linings! Philippe’...

Sometimes I feel like a weather reporter, always talking about it, but the weather plays such a huge role in getting the big job behind the barns done! This week started off sunny, so Philippe was able to get a few good hours of digging in each day. The section left to dig is no longer connected to the hill, so it has less groundwater to soften it up, making the work a bit slower. But as you kn...

Bonjour tout le monde! And welcome back to another week with us! It’s been a busy one. After six weeks of excavating, scooping, and moving soil, the hill behind the barn has noticeably shrunk, while the dam has grown. It’s repetitive work, but as things progressed, we started to see the light at the end of the tunnel, even though there's still at least half of the hill left to clear. Philippe p...

We Bought An Abandoned Farm in France - One Year Progress

This video is a timelapse on our first year in France. In June 2023 we took a leap of faith and purchased a neglected 34-acre farm in the Dordogne region of Southern France. The farm included a cute but rundown farmhouse, several barns in need of repai...

So wonderful to see young adults taking on difficult tasks! Best of luck to you all.
i love ❤️ your standing 🧍♀️🧍♂️ desk. also, beautiful chair.
thanks for the time lapse good work
Pour beer in shallow saucers and put out around the garden. Slugs can’t resist and will crawl in and drown.
The photo of the bug on the Queen Anne’s Lace is a “stink bug”. They have the most hideous odor and if you get it on your person or clothing it takes a lot of washings to get rid of the smell. 😆😮
Listening to your little boy chattering and laughing is so cute and heartwarming, what a beautiful time in life, reminds me of my little girl (21 now) 😊 enjoy every moment, time goes by so fast. Great work, you're doing really well all of you 😊
Hi, great shows, I love your commitment and hard work. I can tell you that your Thwaites dumper was built in the sixties or seventies, in a small village called Cubbington, near Leamington Spa, and the chassis and bucket were almost certainly built and welded by my friend Norman Terne, he is still alive, and is about ninety years old.
Very well done, best wishes for your family.👏👏👏👏
With all this extra dirt, maybe you should look into Hugelkultur. Bury your excess tree limbs, roots and logs under the soil for an ultra-fertile garden area.
I am amazed and impressed at how hard Phillipe works !
Brilliant work . Very interesting videos
Glad you like them!
This project needs more children, Odin needs siblings :)
Haha maybe in the future!
Hey there im 34 year old guy। You have a very big land। I guess you need helping hand। I want to live a farm if you can take me to you i will work for your farm forever. No salary as a volunteer i will work for you. Let me know if you need mee
It is so refreshing to see you guys living out your dream's on your private peace of paradise! By way, at the end of the video I was so hungry! Loved the recipe!
It is easy enough to make 😉👍
That baby is so sweet! ❤
99% of the time he is 😉😂
There was a repot several weeks ago on American TV about the complaints from people who switched to raised desks experiencing swollen, painful feet, ankles, varicose veins, and back pain. Be careful.
It all depends how you use it, don't overdo with standing because then you just get other complaints like when you sit too much.
Such hard work and all done with enormous amounts of good humour! And that beautiful quiche. I could smell it cooking. How fabulous. Good wishes to you, beautiful family.
Thank you!
Odin is growing up so fast. It was fun to see him helping and having his own wheelbarrow. Phillipe you are becoming a Jack of all trades, very necessary with the amount of work you are needing to undertake. It will not be long before you have the area completely excavated and begin to firm it down to make a parking area for vehicles. Alicia your quiche look so tasty. I did not like leeks as a child and therefore have never purchased them for my family, may be I should see if my husband likes them. 😉 Ronnie in Saskatchewan
❤❤❤
❤❤❤
Sir you should shoot video in first person when working on machine or repairing because you block whole view
We are indeed thinking about adding a actioncam on my chest when doing certain tasks, the only drawback is that it adds more workload with a lot more footage.
I admire you young beautiful family!!!❤️
I love how you are the head of the flock of chickens.... they follow you everywhere... LOL
You are both amazing. There doesn't seem to be anything that you either can't do, or can't learn to do. I imagine lovely Odin will grow more independent and capable by the day, with such great role models. The progress of shifting all that earth in incredible and achieving it before winter settles in is a bonus. Bonne continuation. 😊
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys 🙏 good work 👍😁
Thanks for another great video - your quiche made my mouth water. Yum!😄
what a amazing journey for both of you good job. Waiting your next Video.
We really enjoyed this one. I'm fascinated by the chickens who are wandering everywhere and never get injured by the tractor etc. lovely footage of little Odin and his wheelbarrow.
Enjoy your meal
Some of the work was quite unnecessary like removing tge rendering from the outside wall. That energy and time could have been deployed elsewhere.
yes
Odin needs a sibling 😊😉
Haha who knows maybe there is one in the making 😅
@DomaineSauvage 😯 if so then congratulations in advance 😅
We love the commentary and the editing
Thank you Graham!
I’m glad the digging is almost at its end, I fast forward thru that and the tractor discussion, but enjoyed the cooking at the end. Looking forward to seeing how the soil at back is retained, then onto the dam.
We will also be glad but it is a part of the renovations now as other parts will be, this is a big project so some tasks take a lot longer then if it would be a tiny 10 square meter barn.
Im from Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. Ive been following ur videos n loving it very much.
Awesome! Thank you!
great keep it up
Thanks
Your chickens are hilarious, and have convinced me I haven't the patience for them. Very impressed with all your hard work, ingenuity, and stamina. Bon chance!
Fantastic project, work ethic and attitude. Wish you the very best of luck guys. Will be following your progress wishing 1 day soon i can do something similar before I get too old!
Show more of French cooking~ interesting!
I will tell Anicia!
Bedankt dat we mochten meekijken in jullie grote project, hele klus💪 gaan volgen, grts uit Limburg NL
Thx!
It would have been easier to build new house and premises than renovate slums. Anyway I admire your courage.
"This thing is so tired." Same little dumper. Same. Lucky it's got you to look after it in its senior years. Great work mate. Really enjoying seeing your progress.
Haha yes i do get tired as well 😅Almost done with the biggest part of this project and that was digging and hauling.
I could feel the relief for the barn! Finally free! Great Job! Both of you!
Thank you LittleChena!
I love the respect that you have for the land
Thank you Judith!
I cannot understand why you do not use some of that dirt to repair the ruts in your yard.
Next video i do that with brown/black soil.
150th 🎉
Phew almost through all the comments 😂
@ I’m gonna keep adding more to keep you busy lol
Wow, what an amazing couple. Great job and all the best 👍👍
