i know! She takes and flips the melody up and down many octaves and riffs it her way so in the pocket and creatively original. a demi-goddess of singing. and finer than frog's hair too.
The last 60 seconds of this are crushing, When Anthony cuts loose on this it takes the whole thing to the upper atmosphere. That bass playing is RIGHTEOUS.
This was A-game Chaka that day!! Also Chaka's only brother Mark is on background vocals in this clip. You can find more of it on youtube by searching Chaka Khan 1981 or Chaka Khan Roxy live 1981.
Why are we not listening to the original album when it had more clarity and Chaka was younger.. this woman’s work is second to none and where the hell is a night in Tunisia probably sold all her stuff on to Spotify shame on you our generation is not dead and many of us appreciate the original stuff half of these on this playlist don’t stand on Chaka Khan ‘s platform.
Location for video: NYC Berkshire Place hotel off East 52nd and Madison in midtown Manhattan which later owned by Omni and closed down in 2020 via googled.
I was also searching for the exact date from this clip, do you have any idea? My guess is somewhere in June 1981, as the Roxy concert was also in June 1981. But an exact date is not mentioned anywhere.
@@ewi4000 Yes and I wasn't 100% sure but it was the date google vaguely shows. And honestly archived info like this is hard to find unless you are an A-lister type. It may show up someday.
Never understood why they deleted this from the original laser disc release. Than, on the DVD release, they added it back in and deleted the Rufus Medley, The Solo Medley and "Dancing in the Streets". Hopefully, we will get the full show remastered on bluray one day.
The Beatles were greats, but It takes a lot of talent (and guts) to rework them into this, something that would fit in perfectly on Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the Key of Life". Epic work! You can hear another version of this on the first of the two Ohne Filter concerts Khan did for German TV, about 38 minutes in. th-cam.com/video/0cpo0_snehY/w-d-xo.html
I wonder if that sounded better in the room. Fire the sound guy, again. That's was the weakest horn part I've ever heard from Michael and Randy. I mean wtf!
I ❤Chaka. The queen of Funk
best beatles cover ever. Chaka is legendary.
Saludos Chaka love preciosa
Awesome. God I miss Michael Brecker what a tremendous loss

That woman CAN SANG!!!! OMG I love Chaka Khan.
My absolute life motto: " Life is short"! DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO❤
CRAZY VOCALS WITH ABSOLUTELY NO EFFORT. LOVE CHAKA FOREVER!

1:44 That is the keyboard player playing that moog! Also keyboard on 2:12
WOW! Nothing but Love & Respect for the Queen Chaka! If she comes within 100 miles of where i live, I'm there!
I loved seeing Chaka wearing her real natural hair.
The last 60 seconds of this are crushing, When Anthony cuts loose on this it takes the whole thing to the upper atmosphere. That bass playing is RIGHTEOUS.

Oooooweeee Anthony Jackson is a killa!
HUGE Chaka fan here. Vocal perfection. I also appreciate the upload and share. TY
As a keyboard player, singer the left hand on the keyboards Greg is doing the bass line hot.Running every note possible.
Having commercial voiceovers above Chaka Khan's vocals should be a crime.
That run that they talked over was a classic Chaka run! That’s the sad part
MOOG BASS !! AND ANTHONY JACKSON ELECTRIC BASS!! KILLA!!

Wonderous and amazing as only Ms. CK can do
Love her
Bass is played on a synthesizer…
Love her rendition of this song. One of my favorites from the Fab Four.
Brecker brothers!
Is there a full vhs of this concert?
1:56 Super Freaky riff. (Rick James)

I posted all those performances on youtube over 15 years ago!!!!
Considering the first TH-cam video is 13 years old I highly doubt that
Wallace Gary thanks bro 🙂
There were a few great channels with lots of Chaka content about ten years ago. Sadly they're no longer here.
who are the back-up singers?
Don't know the woman, but Mark is her brother.
@@deniseg1100 Lee Maiden- Tony Maiden sister ( he is a member of Rufus)
Yep, Lee Maiden and Mark Stevens
