Ive owned both, and thought i would use the 12.9 size far more than I do, but i found i rarely use it and mostly pick up the 11. I bought them for drawing and light CAD work on the go, or on the couch or bed and find the 11 easier to manage. I found that if i am going to sit at a desk with the Magic Keyboard, my desktop computer is far nore comfortable and powerful.
Hey bud i just want to let you know that your comment just single handedly convinced me to purchase the 11 inch instead of the 13 inch. I currently have a 12.9 inch 2020 ipad pro and i also use shapr3d. Using the 12.9 inch in bed or on the couch while designing is an absolute nightmare!
Wait till you discover iPad mini. Majority will agree, moreover a lot of people goes iPad mini for the same reason. I’ve not used 11” often, mini every day.
If someone already has a MacBook they should go with the 11 inch one. If someone wants to have an iPad to be a laptop replacement (they don’t have one) then they should go for the 13 inch one.
@@sherwinh1661If your client usually sits next to you then i think 11 inches should be fine tbh. 13 inches is good if you have to type/draw A LOT using pencil or iPad keyboard since they have more screen real estate (no pun intended lol)
@@sherwinh1661 If you’re on the go all the time showing houses and stuff the 11 inch would be a better option… If you are in the office the majority of time the 13 inch is the best option . At the end of the day they both do the same thing . The 13 inch is not that practical to travel or move around.
It depends, I went for a 12.9” because it has the same Mini LED display and it pairs beautifully as a second/external display for a 14” MacBook on the go.
I’ve had the 13 in each evolution. I rarely have used it on the Magic Keyboard. I love the bigger screen and watching videos/reading on it is awesome. The fact that it’s lighter now is a big bonus.
I don’t fully agree with the conclusion or advice to be honest - I’ve also owned both 13 and 11, and ended up loving and using the 11” more. It does the same and the smaller form factor is just very convenient. The smaller screen size is really relative and I’ve never felt it’s too small or cramped, not in the slightest. While I do own a laptop, I can do lots of work on the 11” . Email, simple word or excel stuff all really no problem at all. For me the small form factor with these incredible (over the top?) specs makes this my favorite apple device. I’ve owned all 11” generations and just picked up the new one . Couldn’t be happier.
Hey there, appreciate the comment and great points. It is relative indeed, and the idea of feeling cramped is probably because I've become adjusted to the 12.9" over the last (almost) half decade. But for sure, the 11" is a powerhouse and work can be done on it. Enojy the 11!
One thing to add, regardless if you pick 11 or 13, the new OLED screen on this thing is spectacular in my opinion, I truly enjoy it actively. It’s just so full and rich - and that’s saying something as the previous gen was already very very good.
As you’re always on the go, I would say get the 11”. And as said before the smaller screen since has never felt cramped to me. Others might love big screens which I suppose just comes down to preference and weight/bulk tolerance.
Even tho I’m an artist, I prefer the 11” size. Not only is it more portable & easier to hold…but it is equivalent in size to a standard 8x11” sketchbook. I know the 13” has more screen space for drawing, but it’s not enough for me to choose it over the 11” which is a true tablet to me.
Fascinating, you’re the first artist who’s commented that they prefer the more portable 11”. It makes sense though if you appreciate the portability of the 11”. Thanks for sharing!
@@gcaleblee I still use my 2018 11” iPad Pro but i am tempted to upgrade to the M4 because of the OLED screen & apple pencil pro. I’m 90% sure I’ll go with the 11” again, but want to test out the new thinner lighter 13” in the store first. Whichever one I get i’ll get with the standard OLED screen tho for truer blacks & crisper colors. I also plan to upgrade my ipad mini 5 to the mini 7 when it comes out in September. I like the mini as a digital sketchbook when i really want to travel light. The iPad has totally replaced my laptop as my main content creation & media consumption device. 👍🏼
Great comparison between the two iPad sizes. No BS, no reading of spec sheets, thoughtful, and brilliant venn diagram. Curious to hear your thoughts on the iPad mini 8.3” size!
Hey Ken, thanks for the encouragement! Yeah, I tend to skip all the main specs as anyone who can read will find those online in a few seconds. I love the iPad mini, the form factor, the size, the weight, but I'm really sad about the display. It's hard to go back to something non-promotion or non-XDR display. Otherwise, the form factor IMO is similar to the 13" in how it overlaps a lot with the macbook air, the mini overlaps a lot with iphone pro max's, and it's a delightful overlap! If they made some kind of psuedo ipad mini pro, I'd get that in a heartbeat.
The 13” being thinner and lighter this year actually makes it feel way more manageable when not connected to the Magic Keyboard. I had the 11” for the 2018 iPad, but I upgraded to the 12.9” iPad with the M2 model. While the 12.9” felt too bulky, the 13” feels perfect to me.
Same story, 11” 2018, upgraded to 12.9 M1 and found it way too bulky so I returned it and this time around preordered an 11 M4. When I read the reviews and saw the 13” in store, cancelled my 11” on the spot and grabbed a 13 instead. Happy with it so far, and I’m thinking I’ll probably keep it.
@@tbnrjapao - I think you are confusing the 13" iPad Air and the 13" iPad Pro. The 13" Air does only have a 12.9" display. Either way, I still really like the feel of the 13" M4 iPad compared to the 12.9" M2 iPad. Moving the camera is also a huge improvement for me. Several times a day I would get a message that I was covering up the camera on my M2 iPad.
I got the 11inch but had to exchange it for the 13inch .. I rather have a bigger screen if am already spending so much .. love the OLED on a larger display to watch shows
Super glad this helped! Ultimately it comes down to your biggest use case for the iPad, which should really dictate the size where one settles. Apple really made us wait until 2024 for OLED 😅
Great video. I’m leaning towards the 13” since I don’t have a laptop and I plan on using it for drawing. It’ll be easier to do side by side multitasking as well. Plus the larger screen will make it easier to read.
The choice has a lot to do with what other devices you have. I have the 16" MBP so there is just 0 reason to own a 13" iPad. The 11" iPad Pro however is great for bed, airplanes, relaxing on the couch. I completely stopped thinking about the 12.9"/13" once I had this setup going.
I have a 13" Air. Which iPad do you think goes well with that? I typically intend to use the iPad as a couch TV/carrying it around my house. I rarely will hold it in my hand (I think?) mainly watching videos on the couch, desk, or bed.
@@Ask-Ali I found that having a similar sized iPad and laptop was pointless. The larger iPad is so big that it takes up just as much space as a 13"-14" laptop. They're both just as clunky as each other, but the laptop screen aspect ratio is much better for video content.
Good diagram. I don't think this is a hard decision. You've summarized it well. For folks that will mostly be using an iPad as a laptop, a 13" (whether Pro or Air) is the best choice. For folks who already have a device that serves as a computer (whether MacBook or 13" iPad) for demanding tasks, get a smaller iPad (whether Mini, regular, or Air) forgo the keyboard since you already have a computer device, and it's highly portable and inexpensive.
Preceisely, and much appreciate the encouragement and summary! The funny thing though is despite knowing this and having a 16" macbook pro, I still want both 😅
I have a macbook air.. but I would rather pay 500$ more for a 13inch iPad upgrade along with the magic keyboard… this way I won’t have to carry around two 13 inch gadgets and I can travel lighter. The 13 inches makes more sense, because if you are having to use your macbook air anyway, you will eventually end up using the macbook and your phone and the tablet will be just a paperweight mostly.
No iPad excels as laptop replacement. Sorry but many tried and end result is always the same. If it does replace a laptop that means you never needed laptop in the first place
I just ordered both new m4 macbook pro and 11 inch m4 ipad pro. I use laptops as my main device as I find Ipads lacking for my use case. I usually use the Ipad for streaming, readings, some note taking, and signing documents so the 11 inch form factor is perfect. It's more compact and won't feel like stuffing another laptop alongside my 14 inch macbook. I've held the 13 inch, it's to big for my use case, and doesn't feel like a tablet. The extra cost for the extra screen real estate and slightly better stats are unjustifiable for me. But of course it depends on your use case.
I lean towards 11-inch and total weight 1024g instead of total weight 1247g. Although intrigued by the 13-inch, but afraid its too big and heavy. Well done comparing these and great story telling! 🎉 watched twice to support the channel!
Thank you for the kind words!!! Yeah, honestly the 13" isn't for a lot of people, whether someone has smaller hands or just because of the weight itself. The 11" does feel like a compromise at times, but it doesn't matter if you already have a macbook of some kind. Thanks again, and I'll work hard to bring more good content!!
Really good video, well made! I’m struggling between these 2 sizes as well but probably going to go with the 11”. You summed up the pros and cons amazingly. Keep it up!
Had a 12.9 I used for 2 years and now have the 11. I like the portability and the experience is more intimate and closer to what Jobs had in mind with the 11.
For sure! If this was primarily a laptop replacement I’d get the 13” as well, although for travel, I would say the 11” is definitely better. Let me know how the 13” works out for you!
Finally someone tackles the size differences in the proper way , so many people only praising the 13inch but the difference in size between/funcinality between these two is as clear as it gets.
Thanks for this and glad you agree! The 13” is a beast, but they completely miss the point of the 11” which is more true to what a tablet was originally designed for. But we all like to have a one quiver killer and it’s fun to think about the versatility of the 13”….but the 11” is just so much easier to hold and carry around.
I love my 2021 11-inch. But the pretty significant 100gram+ weight reduction on the 13” models was a big factor in ordering the larger model this time around. I primarily use the iPad in tablet mode but I don’t have a dedicated laptop and the times I do use my 11” that way it just feels a bit too small. Hoping that the lighter 13” will still be very comfortable for tablet usage while working better for laptop replacement for my purposes, but if not I’ll return it to Apple and grab the 11” instead.
@@christophhazy8080 I got the 13” and kept it. The weight reduction on the 13” compared to previous 13-inch models really does make a big difference in shrinking the discomfort gap that used to be present between the two sizes. I’d say the 11” is still a little more comfortable in some situations but not so much so to offset the benefits and wider use range of the larger screen. I’m pretty happy with the decision, but I think if the 13 was still around 1.5 lbs I might have stuck with the 11-inch at around 1lb. It’s not even entirely because of the total weight but the weight distribution and balance.
Finally I choose 13" this time since I was 11" fans. I use iPad for dwawing illustrations, larger screen is absolutely an advantages. I chose 11" before just because 12.9" is too heavy for me to take out, and the new 13" now is affordable (in weights)
@@piyushchoudhary007 Indeed not really small, although larger would be an advantage. Moreover, too large would be a disadvantage instead, glad 13" is yet a step from too large, and 580g is still portable.
@piyushchoudhary007 forget iPad Air if you want to get a smoother drawing experience (beside the wider color space provided by iPad Pro with an OLED display). The key reason is ProMotion. I tried drawing on an iPad Mini, and I can tell you you do instead feel the refresh rate difference with Pro, more than the screen size difference. But maybe just because my vision is sensitive enough. I suggest you go to the recent Apple Store or licensed retailer to try and feel it prior to making decisions.
thanks for the comment and the encouragement! Yeah, it's weird how different they feel. First time experiencing the dilemma having both inside the home.
@@gcalebleesame, i ordered both 11/13 to test and now cant decide which to keep. I also turned on my MacBook Air for the first time in weeks and comparing it to 13inch ipad
Different people with different uses will want one or the other. I got the then 12.9" iPad Pro as soon as released - ad have just ordered the new 13". Bigger is better for me.
for sure, honestly, for some people as soon as you see it, grab it, you already know which one you want. I honestly think it would be a no brainer if I was just a bigger guy, bigger hands, etc. I'm about average height/stature so it feels manageable but def at times I think having a slightly larger hand would've made it an easy choice.
yeah honestly, they could make a few tweaks to the ipad to make it reallllly good, and I'm not even talking about giving it a macos. It's a tablet, but I think they could really make it stand out. Let me know what you decide!
Good Video! I am in the same boat.. I am hoping the the thinner and lighter design will make the 13 more palatable to use in tablet mode. The 11 is perfect for that but you can beat the real estate of the 13 when docked or when using Freeform. I also have a mini and love it for TH-cam, instagram and kindle reading. But….
Congrats, There are so many videos about these out there. But somehow you managed to be exactly in people minds. Exactly answering the right questions. Keep up the good work.
I would probably recommend the 13” if you plan on getting any real work done, like the PPT you mentioned. Reading on the 11” isn’t bad, but if you’re trying to get things done, the 13” helps. But honestly, the macbook air is probably a bit better for cybersecurity if you’re also using some programs like cisco packet tracer or some python as well. Hope this helps!
13+ inch iPads just don't do it for me, I've typically invested in the pro option of iPad & always the cellular version, why restrict yourself just to Wi-Fi, I agree the 11 iPad is the closest to most effective manageable size useability, & you are correct 11 inches is the closest to the original intended iPad size, but you are incorrect about it being the best, today the three best Apple products to satisfy the average tech user is the iPhone mini 13 (SE 4?) iPad mini 6 & a pair of AirPods Pro, compact portable flagship products, expensive yes, but totally unique & niche.
Hey there, thanks for sharing your thoughts! Not sure if I said it was the best explicitly, just closer to what Steve Jobs intended...but that's why ultimately I want both, just because they both do different things really well
I always was on the non Pro Max non 13 inch iPad camp. But for this generation I’m going to try something different. I’m going pro max with my next iPhone to lessen the need of taking my iPad (at least in most cases ) outside the house and going 13 inch to keep my iPad in the house. I fully agree with you on the 11 inch being more easy to hold with one hand, but the 13 inch in this generation (being lighter) is approaching that territory. I tried handling it with one hand in the Apple Store for quite some time and it wasn’t too bad.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yeah, it's really a balance of where to best put your dollars for what overlaps or doesn't. The weight savings is huge, but it's just not as portable (obviously) as the 11". I have the pro max as well, and sometimes I just want a slightly larger screen, which is where the 11" slots in really well, but the 13" is definitely an improvement and with all things, something you'll totally forget about the size after a few weeks.
Because I have my 14” m2pro I went with the 11” m4 iPad Pro. I didn’t bother getting the Magic Keyboard because then it would be just like using my MacBook. I’ll mostly use the iPad for media consumption and minor mobile game playing.
Yeah, this is great if you know your main use of the product, it really helps narrow down what size. I think the confusion is when people want to do everything with their iPad but neither size does everything else.
Great video, so many important things has been said in a such short time, I'm amazed. I ordered the 13’ just before I found your video. Coming from a 11" M1 iPad Pro, I might regret it but I had to be sure 😅 The OLED screen looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, you have a new subscriber!
@@poluks super kind words! The 13” screen is superior no doubt, even compared to the 11” M4. I think you’ll fall in love with it, while also missing some of the flexibility of the 11”. Enjoy and share any updates once you get it!
Loved my 10.5” iPad Pro so much then got the 12.9 when it first came out in 2018… idk they’re both great but the smaller pro was definitely more portable.
Ha, I'm facing that very same dilemma right now! Seeing them side by side like that it strikes me as evident your comment that the 13" looks right at home with that keyboard whereas the 11" is probably better off without it. At the end of the day, and if you factor in Pro prices, maybe it does come down to, "if you want a tablet, buy a tablet; if you want a laptop, buy a laptop." I favor portability and use it for media consumption first and foremost, but it would be nice to bring it along for work rather than my heavier laptop.
Hi there! There are so many factors to consider, like the weight, size of your hands, if you’ll be carrying it around a lot, etc. I also have. 16” MacBook Pro and I find the 13” to be a perfect step down. If you also like stage manager, which I’ve recently been using a lot and enjoying, the 13” is great! If you have a 14” MacBook Pro, maybe the 11” makes more sense…let me know what you decide!
It's a good point, the cover is probably enough for most people...but for the others who like to feel like they can have a little bit more flexiblity, the magic keyboard is amazing!
Would you recommend 11 or 13” for studying math? Not sure if I’ll need the extra space or use 13” as a second screen to a MacBook. Although I don’t travel with an iPad so I’m leaning towards 13” for greater useability..
Hey there...to be honest for anything where grades or work matter, I'd probably recommend the larger screen as it's really more inducive to getting things done. You probably don't need the m4 unless you have the budget for it, but any of the m1/m2 variants would be an awesome idea too!
@@gcaleblee thanks for your response and review! Did you have thoughts on the nano? Not sure what will happen at WWDC, read about having iPad as a virtual machine with macOS but unsure if that will happen.
@@Gekko858 And thanks for watching! Hopefully it was helpful some :) I presume you mean the nano display? I haven't seen it in person myself, but to spring for that price point makes me think that it makes sense for those who really know they need it or would benefit from it. Otherwise I'm happy w/o it :) Yeah the WWDC is exciting this year, I think Apple is cooking something up, but it's clear that will keep macOS always fundamentally different from ipadOS...although they can very well improve upon existing platforms like stage manager and other things! Keep me posted on which ipad you end up going for!
After my GCSEs I’m looking to buy an iPad Pro, and I’m not sure between getting the 13 inch or 11 inch, if I were to get the 11 inch I was wondering if it is worth also getting a monitor so I could use an external keyboard and mouse with the monitor and iPad while at home at my desk, but then I could just use the iPad when I’m at school for example. What do you think? Is there any point also getting a monitor, and should I go 11 inch or 13 inch?
Thank you for the video. I believe that previous 12.9 M1/M2 iPad Pro had merit compared to the same generation’s 11-inch model because it had a mini LED screen display. Now that both 11 and 13 got a same OLED display, I really don’t think 13-inch screen is necessary unless the user is a professional video/photo editor or an illustrator (Or to a person who just really need a big screen).
Great video… I have an ipad since gen 1 and - although I also always had a macbook in that period, I always have an ipad with me, wherever I go, and I find that the 11 is the best all round option. I have an M1 12.9 and the latest mini and while both are great devices, the 12.9 lives @home and is now very much either a second display for the macbook or used to write (I love typing on the large magic keyboard). The Mini is perfect for reading and is so light I always have it in a sling bag or so. But the 11 does it all - so I got a new 11 pro M4… still a comfortable size for the keyboard. Good for lighter days of work - so light and compact it literally disappears in your backpack and can be taken in a slightly larger sling. comfortable to use on plane and train tables, and I have my entire research library with me, can annotate documents and stay connected with colleagues. An excellent machine - and yes a bit overkill - but it gives a lot of pleasure to work on and given he time one spends on these devices that is also worth something… :-)
WOW this is awesome, someone who actually has both form factors and uses them probably how Apple intended! Your examples are insightful for the 11", especially the comfort factor for commuting/traveling, and the freedom that it gives you to work, albeit in a small form factor, it can still do everything on the go. I also started using my 12.9" a lot more once I connected it as a second display as well and it's made a LOT more sense since then. Thanks for sharing!
I had the 12.9 as my last ipad, but getting the new 11 inch ipad pro is so great. Holding it is so much easier and my experience has never been better. Watching movies in your bed, or bringing it to places is much more fun than the 13 inch imo.
Can someone tell me who needs a ipad in general? The ipad pro looks very nice and I’m thinking of buying it but I don’t think I’ll use it often because I got a windows laptop. I don’t even use my laptop that much, maybe only once a week?
I had the M1 12.9 iPad Pro and barely used it so I sold it. Now I am starting my studies and planning to get the 11 inch this time to use with the Pencil for studying and taking notes. 13 inch is just too big and heavy. Did you use 11 for notetaking with the Apple Pencil? Is it too cramped?
13" is big, even with it's slimmer form factor and weight savings. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a bigger person with larger hands. As for the 11", unfortunately it will feel slightly cramped. You'll have to make the tradeoff for portability vs functionality. As for writing on the 13", it's a lot more natural as it's closer to the size of paper. But if I had to carry it all day, it would be a hard decision to make. Sorry I can't help too much more!
I have the same problem because I study and take my current ipad (9 gen) everywhere! Train, bus, university. BUT I do spend a lot of time taking notes and reading e-books etc... I will probably get the 13 inch, but I have to still consider it :( Anyway, I love taking notes with the 11-inch, you can get used to it
I’ve been wondering the exact same thing. But my primary reasons for wanting to buy is because I want to do art and comics on it. I think the 13 is the way to go but the cost is just insane to me. So i guess im now looking for any feedback I have of those that draw on the 11.
Ah, yes for the artist it's a different equation...perhaps consider the 12.9 M1/M2 variants? Most likely you'll be drawing on a table I presume, so perhaps you don't need the lighter body? As for the mini-LED vs OLED, I think those differences are only perceivable by the really scrupulous. Honestly, my 4th 12.9 still looks great!
I just got my new 11" M4 iPad and I love this thing. Could have gotten the 13, but the 11 is easy to carry, easy to hold and can take notes just like the 13. It's the one!
Great video and I think you've captured a lot of points. Have usually gone with the 11 as the best balance between portability and screen size (since I refuse to get a mini until its been updated). This time thinking of going the 13, as I feel that another point about it is that is it better for sharing. The bigger screen size is much better for looking at photos or video or content together rather than the 11.
Honestly this is another point that I wish I mentioned that you nailed. When using this with family or friends, the 13” is really a no brainer. The 11” works for sure, but the extra real estate is just so convenient, despite its extra weight and size. The 11” is definitely for personal use, to carry around the park or cafe when you’re enjoying some solo time and shooting off a few short emails at the same time.
Agree! Such a struggle. I had the iPad Pro 10.5”, and more recently the 12.9”, but with the OS not having an easy file UI, got a MacBook Air (Midnight!) and it became my go-to device. But with these new iPad Pro’s, wanted to get an updated iPad, but couldn’t decide as I love the screen real estate of the larger one, but it’s so close to my laptop and not comfortable to hold for long periods, so going back to the 11”. I’m actually thinking I’ll skip the keyboard this time. It’ll save some bulk and $. When I carry my work laptop I won’t carry a MacBook Air AND and iPad, so having a smaller device is probably the best situation for personal use and luggage. Whew! So many Apple products.
For sure! Honestly if I had the MacBook Air, either the 13” or 15”, I’d definitely skip the 13” iPad Pro 100%. It’s a little bit different if one has the 16” MBP, but if you’re primarily holding the iPad and traveling with it instead of typing on it, the 11” makes a lot of sense.
Been struggling with this for months and I just can't come to a decision. I have an 11" Air 4th gen and it's kind of fun, but I want to do photo and video imaging and this is just too small. But when I'm out and about, it (the 11 inch) is very unobtrusive. Oh what to do??
@@BooLee01 the struggle is real and I'm convinced Apple knows this, either to upgrade up or down every few years or to even get two ipads depending on use case. Not sure if this is the best advice but maybe keep the 11 air and also get the m4 13? The trade in value I imagine can't be too much either
@@BooLee01 ah the precious hand me down. I've traveled with the 13 on a 9 hour flight and honestly I appreciated the size of it despite the slight twinge of sadness that it isn't as easy to carry as the 11. I still want the 11 or mini, so maybe a used one down the road...best of luck on deciding! Let me know with what you go with
@Isabelle5x hi there 😊 I think both will do just fine, the question I'd ask is how it feels carrying around, taking out, holding, using on the magic keyboard, without. It's nearly 2 months since I kept the 13" and I still wish almost everyday I kept the smaller one...but I know I returned it because when it was side by side I just felt the 11 was too small. Try to go the store and play around with one, hold it, try to imagine getting work done on it or using it for leisure. Hope this helps!
@@gcaleblee Hi! I think I'm gonna take the plunge and get the 13" to read, take notes, study, and take lessons online. I already have a 5th gen Ipad to carry around if I need it. Thank you for the feedback! 😊 By the way, do you recommend upgrading to 1TB???
I upgraded from an 2018 11 pro to a 2024 13 pro and it’s feels more of a laptop replacement. It’s not practical to take to bed and handle on a regular basis. If you want portability and easy handling around the house then get the 11.
Not bad! Depends on your macbook. If it's the 13" air, it'll share a lot of similarities for most use cases. If you have the 16" macbook pro, there's a big enough of a difference to feel like the 13" is it's own device.
My 11” M4 doesn’t feel that cramped. But if I’m traveling for personal reasons it’s a joy to have along. I can’t really do all my work from it, but I can do emails and webex and whatever if something comes up and it is was less space and weight than my 14” MPB.
If you’re coming from the 14” MBP the 11” is a great choice. I do miss the portability of the 11” but every time I grab my 13” the display always makes up for it. Sucks how it always feels like a trade off though
Only yesterday we went to Apple so I could exchange my 13” for the 11” and get more portability. It’s not a lot lighter but I could feel it in my back pack which surprised me considering it is only 135g difference. However, I miss the larger trackpad and screen of course when at home and it’s on my lap. I spend all my time on either it or my Mac but I need to get used to it still. I am hoping it’s going to be the one I Want for portability otherwise I’ll be back at Apple swapping back. 😂
Haha I don’t think you’re alone in swapping once, and maybe even twice 😅 I’ve accepted that whichever one I get, I’ll miss the other one. It’s oddly psychological, like Apple intentionally makes us want both…I’m sure you’ll get used to the 11”, as both equally have strong pros and cons!
Loved your video and diagram, I just suscribed, thank you for sharing. I just change from the 12.9” M1 to the 11” nano texture one. Agree with all your points.
Haha I felt like I was in high school making that but there’s a reason why the diagrams are used. Thanks for watching and let me know your thoughts about the 11” in a month or so from now!
Yeah definitely different form factor, the OS is definitely a bigger arbiter but a lot of people consider if the 13” can be a laptop replacement (for most things)
Honestly I just sat there when I got both of them so confused as to why I was having such a hard time with this. I had to watch other reviews, read reddits to start to understand why I wasn't sure which one I wanted, and ultimately, realized I just want both, although I'll probably have to return one as over 3k in iPad pros (and accessories) is just...ridiculous.
considering that I am a programmer and that I have clients in many parts of the world, I am located in Germany and I travel a lot, I want to stay consistent with my technical knowledge, so I often write a note in my diary, but after a lot of changes in means of transport and in a hurry, I often write something down on paper like ticket or something that I lose later. When I am looking at all the devices I have, I always carry a Macbook pro with me, but writing in a notebook or some application is sometimes unnecessary, so I tried the iPad mini, it's my best small device but it's too small for good drawing, so I tried the iPad pro M1 and magic keyboard, it's actually great but sometimes clumsy because it's neither light nor too big. Given that my only "older" device is an iPad Pro 10 from 2018, on which the children are now drawing, it is ideal for me both for notes and for some kind of urgent RDP access, and I think I will definitely go for the new iPad Pro, but without the magic keyboard, I want something as light and thin as possible and still be between 13 and 10". Great video for sure
Thanks for sharing your thought process! From what it sounds like the 11” might be a great fit for you, but ultimately it really does come down to what works best for you. Let me know what you end up deciding!
@@gcaleblee I never would’ve guessed that based on the finish product. Hopefully you’re back on your feet by now, but if not, I pray you feel better soon.
haha yes! Only the few appreciate this. I’ve been injured pretty bad so I haven’t been able to ride it much but it’s pretty enough sitting right there as a prop. What do you ride?
@@gcaleblee I had the previous gen Stigmata which was super fun. I'm currently riding the Heckler SL which has been a hoot. As someone who has had the 12.9 m2 ipad pro I was really wanting to go back to the smaller ipad. In this sense a normal ipad size. My first ipad was 9.7 with the 6th gen. Then I got the air with the all screen design as I did not think the pro was a big enough uograde for the same pretty much ips panel on the 11 inch. I finally wanted the 12.9 cause the 256gb of then ipad air was holding me back and I wanted the better display. I got used to the 12.9. but the weight really changed how I use it. I never got the magic keyboard for it as I use procreate more than anything. But now that I am back in school I use my m1 macbook pro 14 and my ipad 12.9 m2 together more so than I thought which is great for an tandem display for my work flow. But I still missed the tablet side of things that complimentary device. I bought the m4 ipad pro 11 inch. And the size difference is kinda of shocking. Apart of me says I should just trade my 12.9 in for the 13 m4 and get the ruduce weight of the new one. But the other part of me say my m2 works just fine keep it. Use it how I am using it. And use the 11 inch as a tablet. The decison is difficult. I mostly use procreate so the bigger display is nice cause it is about the same size as a sheet of paper. But the smaller size weight makes it much nicer to use as a tablet. I am not sure I would use the magic keyboard. But the new ones magic keyboard looks way better than what i can get for my current 12.9 m2. Decision decision. First world problems I know.
Nah, honestly this thought process is probably like what almost everyone who currently has an m1 or m2 12.9”. It’s frustrating that apple has made such polarizing sizes because a 12” would be the best of both worlds, but for some reason they wanted to make it confusing by creating a screen the size of their laptop, which I understand, but only to limit the usage of the iPad. It’s all actually quite deliberate, where they draw strong lines to make us conform to them, which again, is 1st world problems. Even I if you got the 13” m4, you would always have in the back of your mind how much nicer the 11” is to carry around, while with the 11”, you’d always want the larger screen for note taking. It’s almost like apple wants us to buy both 🥲 at the end of the day, you’ll have to ask yourself is portability more important or is the larger screen more important, and in a month or two you’ll forget about the other size all together. Let me know what you decide!
It does indeed wobble, but when on a table it isn't a big issue...and on the lap, it's always been a bit unstable because it's top heavy, but I do find myself not wanting to lean it all the way back because of how much more it feels unstable. It is a bummer, but the new trackpad and keyboard makes up for it!
@@gcaleblee I wanted to know if it wobbles on a flat surface like a table when you change to all angles possible ? The previous Magic Keyboard probably did not wobble although it can fall back due to the top heavy nature of this system as you said.
Sub earn sir! I have been struggling with this dilemma myself. My 12.9 has been my main devices for over a year now. This year I will be going with the 11" because I am not ready to give up on MacOS completely and I truly want to use the iPad as a tablet, not as a laptop.
Thanks for the sub!!! For sure, it's a legit question of whether ipadOS can ever replace a macOS, maybe in the future with some great software changes, but agreed, the 11" is truly a versatile/portable tablet :)
Depends on your perspective on what an iPad should be. For me an iPad has to be more portable than a laptop, and that's a lot easier to say for the 11 inch compared to the 13.
My iPad is my computer I am going to get the 11” m4 iPad. It’s going to replace a 12.9” M2 which is connected to an external screen. The 11” will be connected to the external screen. This gives me the bigger screen and the flexibility to use it as a tablet. Your review was excellent.
Hey David, this is really insightful. I never thought about using the 11" as a primary computer for an external monitor...it kind of gives you the best of both worlds!
The concept of Pro is so misleading. A 2018 iPad can do everything the 2024 can, abeit slower - some applications that use CPU more video editing games etc. Mail, netflix, browsing is all the same as the older models... after most apps are cutdown versions of the desktop equivalent If you want a big screen get the Air, and consider the 11" if you must have a Pro, its some much better in the hand and has all the power as the 13", and if you want a big screen get a laptop, then you have all the power and connectivity.
I've totally thought this, and I'm confident Apple's considered this as well, but ultimately having two polarizing sizes will probably sell more units :|
What CAD app did you use?

Wait till you discover iPad mini. Majority will agree, moreover a lot of people goes iPad mini for the same reason. I’ve not used 11” often, mini every day.
If someone already has a MacBook they should go with the 11 inch one. If someone wants to have an iPad to be a laptop replacement (they don’t have one) then they should go for the 13 inch one.

@@sherwinh1661If your client usually sits next to you then i think 11 inches should be fine tbh.
13 inches is good if you have to type/draw A LOT using pencil or iPad keyboard since they have more screen real estate (no pun intended lol)
well spoken
I’ve owned all 11” generations and just picked up the new one
It’s just so full and rich - and that’s saying something as the previous gen was already very very good.
im a realtor , havingt to do presentations and charts on-the-go - should i go for 13 or 11?
As you’re always on the go, I would say get the 11”. And as said before the smaller screen since has never felt cramped to me. Others might love big screens which I suppose just comes down to preference and weight/bulk tolerance.
@@dic8 biggest advantage of the 13" => speakers sound better
13 and 12.9 its the same u can read it from apple website
Same story, 11” 2018, upgraded to 12.9 M1 and found it way too bulky so I returned it and this time around preordered an 11 M4. When I read the reviews and saw the 13” in store, cancelled my 11” on the spot and grabbed a 13 instead. Happy with it so far, and I’m thinking I’ll probably keep it.
@@tbnrjapao - I think you are confusing the 13" iPad Air and the 13" iPad Pro. The 13" Air does only have a 12.9" display. Yeah, that decision to spend just a few more hundred dollars to get that ultimate screen experience is a thought process a lot of us go through!
Great summary. I was struggling with this too but your analysis helped a ton. With my 16” M1 MBP, a 11” makes sense. So happy to have OLED on it.
That makes a lot of sense if you can kill two birds with one stone!
Same. I have 16”mbp , 11 ipp, and a mini
I have a 13" Air. Which iPad do you think goes well with that? I typically intend to use the iPad as a couch TV/carrying it around my house. I rarely will hold it in my hand (I think?) mainly watching videos on the couch, desk, or bed.
@@Ask-Ali to me, 11” easy. Or a mini 6 (if you were to use in your hands mostly)

@@teh_hunterer oh that’s super true on the aspect ratio! Agreed! I think I’ll get the 11” then. Thanks!
The 13” excels as a laptop replacement/digital art pad while the 11” is a great tablet.

Brilliant overview. I have both and you hit the nail in the head. I use the 11 as mobile/travel device and the 13 at home to consume information.
Aha, so there are people in the wild who get both!!
Really good video, well made! I’m struggling between these 2 sizes as well but probably going to go with the 11”. You summed up the pros and cons amazingly. Keep it up!
I had the 11 inch once but I love the bigger screen. I ordered the 13 😬
Had a 12.9 I used for 2 years and now have the 11. I like the portability and the experience is more intimate and closer to what Jobs had in mind with the 11.
Definitely the way to go, I had an 11inch sold it and got a 13(12.9) and almost exclusively used it in the Magic Keyboard since it was so big
Get the 13 inch trust me.
Thanks!! Either choice you'll be happy with it. The 11" will be a good companion wherever you go :)
Thank you! Got the 13" bc I want something that works as both a laptop replacement but I can also use as a tablet when I travel.
What did sou do? In tablet form the 11 is still the goat in my opinion.

Ha, I'm facing that very same dilemma right now! Seeing them side by side like that it strikes me as evident your comment that the 13" looks right at home with that keyboard whereas the 11" is probably better off without it.
Otherwise I'm happy w/o it :)
Yeah the WWDC is exciting this year, I think Apple is cooking something up, but it's clear that will keep macOS always fundamentally different from ipadOS...although they can very well improve upon existing platforms like stage manager and other things!
I’ll be keeping my 2018 for media and the new 13 for as a laptop replacement. Best of both worlds.
Nice!!!
Do you really use the smaller one on the couch or do you go 13 inch all the way?
I had the 12.9 as my last ipad, but getting the new 11 inch ipad pro is so great. Holding it is so much easier and my experience has never been better. Watching movies in your bed, or bringing it to places is much more fun than the 13 inch imo.
Yeah, the 11" is inviting you bring it around everywhere vs the 13" which invites you get some things done and also maybe join you on the couch :)
I will probably get the 13 inch, but I have to still consider it :(
Anyway, I love taking notes with the 11-inch, you can get used to it
I’ve been wondering the exact same thing.
@@gcaleblee I actually ended up just coughing up for the 13 inch pro. I love it :)
I just got my new 11" M4 iPad and I love this thing. Could have gotten the 13, but the 11 is easy to carry, easy to hold and can take notes just like the 13. It's the one!
The 11” is definitely asking to be carried around wherever you go :)
@@gcaleblee No trade-in value at all. I thought about having both, but my daughter who is anxiously awaiting my 4th Gen Air when I upgrade.
Let me know with what you go with
Which one is better for note taking and filling out PDF files?
I just bought the 13 today. And I already have a mac is that bad?
Not bad! Depends on your macbook. If it's the 13" air, it'll share a lot of similarities for most use cases. If you have the 16" macbook pro, there's a big enough of a difference to feel like the 13" is it's own device.
The last time I heard and saw the phrase “Venn Diagram” it was in school on the blackboard in the year 1983
😂
Are you comparing the M4 iPad Pro 11 and 13 inch tablets or M3?
My 11” M4 doesn’t feel that cramped. But if I’m traveling for personal reasons it’s a joy to have along. I can’t really do all my work from it, but I can do emails and webex and whatever if something comes up and it is was less space and weight than my 14” MPB.
If you’re coming from the 14” MBP the 11” is a great choice. I do miss the portability of the 11” but every time I grab my 13” the display always makes up for it. Sucks how it always feels like a trade off though
I finally went with the 12.9 inch model. It’s awesome and I don’t think I’d go back
@@TheNetflixNook nice! The 13" definitely feels luxurious while the 11 feels more like a do it all pocket multitool. Enjoy!!!
I picked up the 13’ to replace my laptop since I don’t use it to its full potential 🙃
Solid choice!
Thank you for this specific topic. I have been wanting to hear more about it, as I am considering what I might do with both as well.
Thank you for watching :) the decision frustration is real. Let me know what you decide!
Could I ask what LUT are you using for video? I love the tones.
Thanks! It’s part of the phantom lut package with Sony cameras :)
im a realtor , havingt to do presentations and charts on-the-go - should i go for 13 or 11?
Loved your video and diagram, I just suscribed, thank you for sharing. I just change from the 12.9” M1 to the 11” nano texture one. Agree with all your points.
Haha I felt like I was in high school making that but there’s a reason why the diagrams are used. Thanks for watching and let me know your thoughts about the 11” in a month or so from now!
0:30 reason for being: the steve job prime directive on Apple design: “customer experience “.
But the MacBook isn’t a touch screen so weight isn’t the arbiter IMO
Yeah definitely different form factor, the OS is definitely a bigger arbiter but a lot of people consider if the 13” can be a laptop replacement (for most things)
Excellent video, I especially enjoyed the overlapping use cases graphics that picture is truly worth a thousand words. Cheers.
Thank you for the encouragement and glad I was able to provide helpful content :)
Great video, you covered exactly what I was thinking, but wasn't sure why I was thinking it.
That’s exactly what I want. I want both.
Great video. It was not only informative, it was also beautifully shot.
Super appreciate your kind words! I was in crutches trying to shoot this so I felt super limited but glad I could still capture good shots :)
@@gcaleblee I never would’ve guessed that based on the finish product. Hopefully you’re back on your feet by now, but if not, I pray you feel better soon.
Is that a Santa Cruz Stigmata in the background? Nicely done!
As a father of two young kids, I don't get quite enough riding time to stay in shape. The eBike makes the climbs tolerable so I can get more runs in.
Keep up the great work on your reviews!
I been using an ipad pro as my main device since 2015 . Gen 1 and I currently have gen 3. “ what is a computer”?
That's awesome! honestly if you don't need any functions of macOS, an ipad pro can totally do all the things you need!
Very well explained, I agree with your opinion on the reasons of getting either of them!
Thanks! It's surprising how many of us are stuck here on making this decision, but whichever way one goes, they're solid :)
Some people have commented about a wobble with the Magic Keyboard. Can you comment on this ? Thanks.
Thanks for the thoughtful comparison. Very helpful indeed.
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching as well :)
I went from the 13” to the 11”, I regret straight away, the form factor of the 11” was something that I didn’t like at all, I went back to the 13
Thanks. Love this comparison

Apple missed a trick by not enabling the 11-inch iPad to connect to the keyboard in portrait mode.

Cheers mate for sharing this.
Appreciate the kind words, and thanks for watching 😎
Certainly not the 11 inch iPad Pro with its muddy speakers..
Very on point diagram! New subscriber here!
Appreciate the kind words and the sub! Will work hard to continue to bring good content 🙂

The 13 inch is the better iPad, however the 11 is more convenient and bit more user friendly from a tablet perspective
Exactly!
Excellent video
Thanks for watching!
The concept of Pro is so misleading. A 2018 iPad can do everything the 2024 can, abeit slower - some applications that use CPU more video editing games etc.
Mail, netflix, browsing is all the same as the older models... after most apps are cutdown versions of the desktop equivalent
If you want a big screen get the Air, and consider the 11" if you must have a Pro, its some much better in the hand and has all the power as the 13", and if you want a big screen get a laptop, then you have all the power and connectivity.
You got your wish, you have both! 😂
lolol no I will have to return one at some point, and even after making this video, still struggling to decide which one to keep!
11 inch
Great video
Thanks for the kind words 😎
Getting two silver ones is absolutely wild instead of getting a space black one as well
12 inches would be perfect
I've totally thought this, and I'm confident Apple's considered this as well, but ultimately having two polarizing sizes will probably sell more units :|
