      @@thesamuelnam imho / there’s lots of good stuff out there and it comes down to people use case, and preferences. The apple stuff works together really well, so after trying quite a few other devices/brands, this is the set up I landed on. Other commenters have mentioned, but I’ll say it too, the m2 iPad Pro with “Hover” for the pencil, is a pretty compelling reason to upgrade, especially if digital art is what you do primarily with it.

    I absolutely agree with you on being frustrated by the software not taking advantage of the hardware. What frustrates me more is that it's likely at least partially a deliberate decision by apple to avoid cannibalising their macbook sales.
    Switching from my 2018 ipad pro to my friends m1 pro, I was disappointed how little difference I felt. They're both just as fast navigating through the OS, and I only got a marginal increase in the maximum number of layers I could use in procreate.

    I just bought a refurb late-2018 iPad Pro today off Amazon (less than $475. for 256gb cellular model) after spec comparing everything between it and the newer models. It'll be my 2nd display for my MBP M1 when on the go, and my Apple Fitness/News/TV+, etc travel companion. It'll never be my primary workstation, really, and so couldn't justify the costs difference between it and the 2022 models.

    I had a 10th gen iPad th-cam.com/users/postUgkxUGaHtKW8MwCql2fPyIm9-ftTqSMzKFFA . Felt it getting pretty slow at times even after doing a reset. So I am using that as a tablet for my 5 year old son and got this 9th gen version. MUCH faster, a little slimmer, smaller bezels, all around a leap forward. Plus, for the price that’s about $130-$150 cheaper than a current new model this is a nice deal. I look forward to the M-series CPUs coming into iPads which will really help future proof these tablets better but these latest CPUs are pretty strong and should do better to last several years with no compromises.

    I actually have a 10.5 iPad Pro which is registered as a 2018 and not a 2017 model, not quite sure why.. I bought it about 2 years ago from Apple Pre Owned store mainly for design and graphics work with a 1gen Apple Pencil because I really wanted the laminated screen and the newer 11” models was just beyond what I could afford as they are quite pricey where I’m from in South Africa. At the time my dream was the large 12” M1 iPad Pro with the LiDAR sensor but it would have taken me another 2 or 3 lifetimes to save up enough money to get that beast, so it was either the 10.5 Pro or the latest normal iPad at the time which was about the same price new as the preowned iPad Pro, so i went with the Pro even though it wasn’t new or the latest model.
    It didn’t disappoint one bit once I received it specially when considering I was using a ancient ipad 4th gen with a cracked screen up to that point, since then I discovered CODM and so started using the iPad for gaming as well with only good experiences, that was until I saw there was a new COD coming and tried to preorder it only for it to show it wouldn’t be available for my iPad Pro which I found devastating and equally strange considering I never had any games lagging or not working before. Would have thought it wouldn’t have a issue of not getting new apps yet since I had OS 16.5 which I assume is the latest ipad OS and if a normal newer 9th or 10th gen normal ipad could play the new COD, why couldn’t the iPad Pro…
    I’m now at the point where I’m already considering a normal 10th gen if I sold my pro to a cousin or someone who’d want to buy it, but I love the Pro’s screen and don’t know if I’d be as happy with a normal Ipad after using the pro for the past 2 years. Still can’t afford a better iPad Pro than the one I have as even preowned models from Apple Store cost almost double what mine or even the new 10th gen does..
    What would your advice be, try get a 10th gen just because of 1 game or stick with what I got for the time being, what would be the chances of a game becoming available at a later time if this iPad is still capable of running the latest OS? If it wasn’t for the damn new COD I would have happily kept using this device for at least another year or 2 and maybe see preowned M1 iPads drop to more affordable prices in that time, don’t know why they have to be so extremely expensive here by me in South Africa..
    Anyway, hope you have time to read my question and have some valued advice for me as it will be greatly appreciated! And thanks for your videos, I love your energy and excitement you have explaining things and subscribed before I could even finish watching the 1st video, hope your channel grows as energetically as you make your content be, your newest favourite subscriber! 🥰🇿🇦

      Thanks for subbing and enjoying the content.
      Instead of 10th gen ipad, I would go for the older iPad Air with new design. Or a used 2018 iPad Pro, since that’s still up to date with the OS if it’s within budget.
      If a game isn’t available today, it most likely won’t make it to the ipad in the future. Please look into which iPads are compatible first.

    I have the 2017 10.5” iPad Pro, but the battery life sucks now and the screen is getting loose, so I bought a refurbished M1 11” iPad Pro. Smaller lighter and smoother. Screen is also so good.

    My iPad Pro 2018 is at 86% battery health. So it’s about right, granted I use it to offload videos on to it and use it to edit on the go with LTE. The most useful device I’ve ever use in my life. It’s so beat up now, but still works. I got the folio keyboard instead since when I got it there was no Magic Keyboard and it works great without the trackpad with LumaFusion. Funny how I can edit my videos and output to TH-cam on the same day of an event where my friends was like, is that today’s event? So portable, so useful. Then I retired it for the new M4 and hand the 2018 iPad Pro down to my kids who can use it in college.

    • @OrdinaryFemmale
      @OrdinaryFemmale ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joveriashafiq just like the video, the lag to select the subject was idk about 4 seconds. So it will depend on your usage. If you have 100+ pictures to edit a day, 100 x 4 thats 400 seconds which equals to 6,6 minutes? worst case scenario it's 10 minutes (as long as you don't loose your focus within these seconds). I understand it can be frustrating if you have a lot of videos, but if you don't save your money bro.

    I love my 2018 iPad pro 11 inch. I think I got a golden unit because the audio and video quality is just stunning. But I wanted to upgrade the size because I ended up like you using it for bloody everything! So because I don't live near an Apple store I bought a new iPad Air and pro 13-inch. I tested them inside out and upside down and I am shocked to tell you that the iPad pro 11 inch 2018 is almost identical on every benchmark. How is that even possible? Now I have an iPad pro 2018 11 inch and an iPad pro 2024 13 inch. I can't keep them both and I'm completely stuck on which one to go with. I want everything my 2018 does except in the larger size. Tough tough decision!
    Would love to hear from anyone else that's gone through this?
    Tested:
    Battery charge, brightness of the screen, quality of the speakers, using procreate, exporting rendering video, data import export and I ran an external benchmark test.
    Ever so much slower - and I'm talking half seconds here. Then the 2024 version.

    Brilliant! You are a natural star! I have subscribed having just bought an Amazon renewed 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 with 512GB and cellular for around half the cost of the latest base model iPad Pro (or even 5th gen). Not going to be a Lightroom user so can feel reassured about this video and what you say. Interestingly, it has 696 battery charge cycles with 85% battery health. My iPad Pro 11” also bought from Amazon renewed in 2020 has today half those cycles and 89% battery health.

    • @thesamuelnam
      @thesamuelnam  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man. So the battery health goes down fast initially then really slows down after hitting 10-15% degredation. The only way to speed up degredation is if you keep overheating the batteries (leaving it in the sun, car)

    • @dexterseamusgaming3338

      Hows the battery life with 85% battery health? Pls answer

    • @mscargill1
      @mscargill1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dexterseamusgaming3338 it’s OK though to be fair I haven’t been using the new 12.9” a great deal so far. I still tend to use my 11” more and that fairly quickly runs down with frequent use throughout the day. It started at 100% at 9 am today and with only a very little TH-cam watching but quite a bit of reading on it, it is now down to 30% 7 1/2 hours later. The 12.9 “ holds its charge well when switched off and is certainly no worse in my impression than my 11” device.
