The FX30 is now in my opinion a better B-Camera option than the A7IV (If you use FX3 as A-Cam). Having 2 of the same exact camera bodies with almost identical features other than the crops is game-changing. Not only that, its literally $700 cheaper than the A7IV. This will be a great option for many videographers
@@BruceMarlier But you don’t have to buy APSC lenses, you can simply use the ones you currently have. The benefit of apsc lenses is the size and price, but other than that using full frame lenses is totally ok especially when you consider Sony’s mount is the same for all. My point was more so that it is a better BCam option than the a7iv, and I still stand by that. If you already own an a74 I definitely don’t recommend selling it for the fx30. The a74 is a much better hybrid camera. But if you are looking to run a 2 camera setup with a7s3/fx3 as your main camera, I believe this fx30 is the much better option because it has very similar specs, similar body (to fx3), it seems to have no overheating issues, and being a crop sensor you can compensate for not having apsc mode on your main fx3/a7s3 cameras
You just use your full frame lenses and take three steps back. Done! Getting the FX30 as a B cam for my FX3. Even though the ZVE1 is out now the FX30 is still the better camera because of pro ergos, quality and reliability.
This is why as an fx6 user I picked up the FX30, at $1800 for the apsc fx3 is an Unreal deal , that’s a G master for a great option for a B/C cam. The crop honestly doesn’t bother me , coming from cameras like a c200, bmpcc4k/6k no one complained much ,so many cinema bodies STILL use the crop . You’re also buying into an insane lens selection , decent low light ( sure not 12,800 but) and the eventual pro res raw to the ninja V? Especially because a ton of people have a Sony a6000 series and lessor , and this options takes away a huge price barrier - COPPED
Opens up the opportunity for many many creators. When I got my A7iv and finally experienced what great quality and colors felt like, I know there are so many others that will feel this way about the FX30. If this would have come out before the a7iv, I would've gotten it. But I'm saving up for an Fx3. Sony is flexing on them hard I love it

I am pretty settled in the idea of picking up the FX30. I have the A7iv, which has given me fantastic imagery. But, the FX30 is definitely a win on so many levels, not the least of which is the price point. Sony made a brilliant move by creating the FX30.
I'm excited for the FX30 but I want to note that the camera that does 8k , with Raw recording on the fuji side is only going to be 1999.99 so it's only 200 dollars more. also while these are both great cameras the FX30 uses the term Cinema camera but it lacks features that a cinema camera would have, This goes from things to meter with to the codecs used. (could always use an external recorder) I'm looking to get an FX30 myself but I feel like there's so many options at this price point now that offer just as much. What I think sets this one apart and makes it worth the buy is the Auto focus but using Cine lenses it's not going to do much good for you.

The X-H2s has 6.2k open gate , 4k 120, 4k 60 no added crop , internal pro res, proxies internal, full sized HDMI, headphones input, mic out ( of course ), excellent rolling shutter , I think it gives this fx 30 a run for it's money. The X-H2S is 2500 The X-H2 is 1999 for 8k 6.2k 4k I want to see a head to head with the X-H2S and the FX 30.
literally all I want is a Sony version of the X-H2s......that's all i've been waiting for. FX30 is ok....but kind of disappointing honestly. Been waiting ever since I got the 6300 for a Sony camera that can do uncompromised 4k at all frame rates and some sort of RAW recording....internally or externally. (that's not 3+ grand)

You forgot fuji has proper ibis and a viewfinder which is crucial for some plus the fact the fuji can actually take amazing photos compared to sonys single shot mode also here in the uk the sony fx30 is £2100 compared to the fuji which is £1800 and you can’t forget those fuji colours

Mannnn I don't know what a cinema camera is right now. Well canon did made the R5C and implemented the cinema camera OS in it, but then people was arguing about the AF slowest than the photo OS of that camera. I think that the sony FX3 and FX30 are both modern cinema cameras, it's true that is better to have at least shutter angle, but man at that price not only for the FX30 but also for the FX3 I think is ok to make those compromises, you still get the same or similar image quality compare to FX6 and up and in the end at least for me final image matters more and on top of that you have also a really good AF. All the goodies in this cameras makes the things they don't have not an issue for me. and also I am not sure but I think they both are now part of Netflix approved cameras, Netflix don't get to say what's cinema and what is not but I think is a good indicator.

You sure about that? V90 cards offer enough throughput and the bitrates are the same as the a7siii, A7IV, fx3, and fx6, and you don’t need CF-A for those unless you NEED to unlock the highest bitrates possible
Because Canon won’t let people make lenses for their stuff, because Panasonic still can’t autofocus, and because Fuji is always gonna be Fuji. Quirky but not the whole package. I’d also wager to say that Sony is going to pay off next gen APSC development costs with this one body alone, and all the benefits will roll downhill to the A6x line.
The main thing is the auto focus but whats the point ...if its a cine came you will use cine lenses....other than that it is tempting ...but what glass do you have is the question....your a good salesman im sure you made sales go up.

I wouldn’t say the rolling shutter is nonexistent. I’ve seen some videos where it’s definitely still something you have to be mindful of. And I’d argue the GH6 can more than match the FX30 spec for spec minus the AF. And it’s only $200 more.
AF, built in streaming, k3m, 4 channel audio internally, etc. the GH6 is a BEAST don’t get me wrong, but I think it sits for advanced use: the fx30 is appealing to the masses with the creature features

I’d be a fool to pay more for a GH6, all Panasonic cameras now need to be $300 less across the product line for having mediocre Autofocus. The FX30 just changed everything and I’m a former GH5 owner but i me have a Pocket 4k and G9 currently that maybe going up for sale😂. I never own a Sony camera but I now feel this is definitely the one to get! Another good thing, my Sirui 35mm will fit E mount with a $20 mounting plate😊
The 8K Fuji is only $2000 not $2500. The $2500 version is 6K but with a stacked sensor. Also, the comparison with other hybrid cameras needs a huge caveat: the FX30 has no mechanical shutter, this is a huge knock against its potential for stills.
Spot on the fuji is 400-500 cheaper here in the uk plus the fuji has way better and proper ibis plus it has viewfinder and can take amazing pictures the sony only has single shot mode and ibis is pretty lame nobody wants to be using catalyst browse

And for some reason the slow mo shooting modes (above 60fps) on both the X-H2 and X-H2S look ugly af. But the real question is if I'd rather pay $200 more and give up a little bit of video performance, or shell out another $1000 for an additional competent stills body.
The full size HDMI is worth the price right there. You think I’m joking but how many videographers have snapped their tiny mini-HDMIs on their cameras which now requires a repair or warranty swap (and who are we kidding you’re not going to go through all that).
There is a fuji XH2 for $2,000, that gives you ProRes up to 8K internally, 8K Raw externally, 40 megapixels, etc, so honestly there is nothing new with what the FX30 is offering.
It’s not giving you the autofocus abilities, built in live streaming. Etc etc. all of them have their pros and cons but I think value wise for a video camera this thing can’t be touched

Did you mention the 26 mp sensor that can take stills?
There is no mechanical shutter, so would need to be static type scene. No continuous mode either.

Not even close. At lower isos, the a7iv is cleaner, but higher isos the a7siii pulls FAR ahead
